This charming little bistro's menu changes every three weeks, which I think allows the chef to make use of in-season produce. On our first visit, my bf and I wanted something light, so we ordered two apps (calamari and lettuce wraps) and two house salads. We were the only two people there (it was still pretty early) but we were a little surprised that it took a fairly long time until our food appeared.
The breading on the calamari wasn't as crisp as I'd hoped, but the sweet chili dipping sauce made the dish acceptable. However, the lettuce wraps were very good and freshly made with big chunks of chicken breast nestled in wedges of iceburg lettuce. Our salads were also super-fresh and were comprised of a bed of field greens, red pepper rings, delicious roma tomatoes (my bf commented how good they were and he never eats tomatoes) along with a side of balsamic vinaigrette.
In addition to the better-than-average food, I was impressed with the artwork and handy-crafts on display by local artisans. The art was very reasonably priced, which would explain why many were already sold.
My friends and I went there last Saturday based upon the reviews on this website. Where have all of you been eating lately? Prison? The school cafeteria? I couldn't believe you gave this place such high marks. No menu, just a few things on a blackboard, even though their website showed all kinds of yummy stuff that I was looking forward to trying. The place was full and only one waitress who was very nice was working. The food was lousy and overpriced for vegetables that were originally yellow and green but were a dull brown by the time they reached my plate. No salad or rolls to accompany your dinner but you pay 15 dollars for a plate of beef sausage and a few peppers and tomatoes. The ice for all of our drinks was scooped out of an "Igloo" cooler sitting on the counter. What kind of Board of Health do they have in the Commonwealth? Or do they? I so wanted to like this place being a small business and in Kentucky, but I would be fooling myself and everyone else. Spend your money elsewhere.
Bellevue Bistro is a quaint diner-type place with coffee, breakfast, and lunch service daily. On a Saturday around noon, the tiny place was crowded and the service was a little slow, but the sandwich and salad we tried were both tasty.
Each day brings a special; recently it was chicken alfredo pizza. The bistro also serves homemade soups.
Nice place for girlfriend lunches or to grab some coffee and breakfast on a leisurely weekend morning. Bellevue Bistro also opens on Thursdays and Friday evenings; call ahead for hours.
Bellevue Bistro is the only coffee house in my neighborhood. I usually show up an hour after they close since they have limited hours. The space is nice, kind of small and quaint and the drink menu is pretty typical of local coffee shops. Located on Fairfield Avenue, it sits in the middle of an area that has been revitalized over the past few years. Parking can be difficult since the Avenue has moderate traffic during the daytime.
