First of all, Bellarmine Barber Shop is a barber shop!  A barber shop with nice, comfortable decor.  Exactly what I was looking for.  A no nonsense place to get a good haircut.  Actually, I would be happy with a good haircut but the owner gives an excellent haircut every time I have been there.  I would schedule an appointment a week in advance to see Esther, but there is no need.  The longest wait is two people and even though I am not local, I always feel welcome and the other patrons are very friendly.  It makes you want to move to this little neighborhood next to Bellarmine High School.

How people can be consistently so good at there job amazes me!  I grew up getting my haircut at a local barber shop and always enjoyed the interaction amongst the clients and barbers.  I searched and searched around San Jose, when I moved here 4 years ago, and I finally found Bellarmine.
If you are like me and don't need your hair washed, colored, and offered a bunch of over priced product, go see Esther.  She is the Best.

Finding a good baber is like finding a good dentist or doctor. I have been coming here for about 2 years. My friend Dave who purchased a new condo up the street found Bellarmine Barbershop soon after moving in. I think he read about it in the Mercury News. Like the previous reviewer commented, Esther has kept the shop going after her Dad stopped cutting hair. I am so gratefull to Dave for introducing me to this place.

Esther always knows how to cut my hair. I don't even say a word she just does it right....EVERYTIME. She's a great conversationalist too. She'll tell you all about what's going on in the neighberhood. Especially since this area has been growing by leaps and bounds. She knows about all the new restaurants and stores coming soon.

I will continue to go to Esthers for my haircuts. I'm so happy I found her after being so unhappy with the result of either a  Supercuts type place or the overpriced "salon" that is just a status symbol. She gives you a great haircut for a fair price. Go see Esther...you'll be glad you did!

I went here based on the reviews on this site and was very happy I did.  Esther was great. I got a haircut I'm happy with and had a good conversation.  Its just as Stephen said, during the time I was there she knew everyone who came in. I'll go back again I'm sure.

Parking wasn't a problem at all, so no worries there.

This place is an institution - located in College Park across the street from San Jose's famous all boy Bellarmine high school.  Bellarmine Barbershop has been cutting 3 generations of hair for over 50 years.

You still see famous alumni coming in, sometimes with their son and grandson in tow.  Esther has taken over for her Dad and knows just about everyone that comes in.  San Jose Fire Department Engine House #7 is just around the corner and they all get their hair cut here too.

Bellarmine Barber shop has branched out a second store - Bellarmine Barber & Salon in Santana Row.  The original is definitely more understated and less expensive!
