I think I'm in love with this place. Seriously. This is the best coffee place in Fishtown. I get excited when I go into a coffee shop and they have two types of coffee. To walk in and see five options was a pleasure. I only tried one, from Peru, and it was delicious. There seemed to be a nice variety of tea too, if that's your thing.
Speaking of delicious, the vegan baked goods? Amazing! I'm not vegan. I've found that vegan baked goods have a particular taste to them (especially brownies). It's not bad; it's just a bit different than non vegan baked goods (kind of like how different coffee roasts have particular flavors). I got the peanut butter cupcake, which was deliciously complicated to eat with lots of peanut butter piled on top of rich chocolate cake. My friend got the cookies and cream. How non-dairy frosting could be so creamy, I'll never know. I got a double chocolate chip brownie for the road and had to try a bite. Can't wait to eat the rest. They also had some enticing breakfast bagels.
As for the space, it's really pretty. Lots of windows, lots of light, lots of cozy little tables. The girl who served me was really friendly without being artificial. I agree with mishel that the place isn't quite broken in yet, but like an apartment you've just moved into, it takes a little while to turn into home. I can't wait to get back and sample more baked goods. Whoopie pies are there waiting to be eaten!
I have been waiting with bated breath for Bella Sera to open, it seems like they'd had their -coming soon- sign up forever. Unfortunately other plans got in the way of me attending their grand opening last weekend but I made my first stop in on my dog walk this morning.
I have to agree, the building is brand new but compared to other newly opened stores I've been into this one seems a lot more cozy to be in. They have all mismatched furniture which is really cute, I do hope they get some big arm chairs or a couch soon! I would love to be able to go there sometime and knit or read a book for an hour someday on a couch or just leisurely hang out with some friends. Service is a little shaky still, they haven't even been open a week and as I know this is their first business so its understandable. I'm sure when given some months to adjust they're gonna be great.
I didn't try any of the baked goods (which looked awesome in the case), I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I did try their coffee. AMAZING. This is seriously in my personal top 5 of coffee places now. They have several different types of coffee (5 I think?) to choose from which is kind of unheard of unless you're going to D&D or Wawa and a small is only 1.50 for iced or hot? what? jawesome.
Bella Sera caters to vegan and gluten free eaters which is definitely nothing I've ever worried about but I am totally going to frequent this cafe more than any other in the area now and not just because its the closest.
they extended their hours -- so, they are now 5 stars in my book! and their brownies are seriously the best brownies i've ever had, vegan or not.
