Review from Brian S.

Hey the Belford Bistro misses the (5) star level because of the overall dinning experience and not just food. My first visit was about two years ago and my opinion of that dinner was very good but not really memorable, therefore I waited for a follow up visit to write this review.
The food generally is excellent but not better than several other American bistros in the Jersey shore area. The ambience is lacking with a plain room and tables spaced close together causing a very noisy dining experience when crowded like on the weekends. Service is pleasant and efficient.
Bottom line: They just miss the mark by a small margin. -

This place is fantastic. The food is amazing. The portion sizes are good and reasonable for one person. They're not super sized and out of control like a lot of restaurants. Quality over quantity. I went here with my parents and my boyfriend and I can't wait to come back. The lamb with gnocchi is delicious and so is the lamb ragout. The duck spring roll appetizer and the five cheese agnolotti we had were also delicious. We had the flourless chocolate cake, the bananas foster blondie sundae and the peanut butter cup for dessert. Everything was incredible. You can't go wrong here.

I wasn't going to add a review because I NEED FOR YOU PEOPLE TO QUIT GOING HERE WHEN I WANT TO GO, but when a chef can bring tears to your eyes with a brussels sprout, you have to give your props. This place is small, and bring-your-own, and a couple of the door greeters I believe are descendants of the bouncers who used to work at Studio 54, because they have that "You don't have a Reservation??" thing down pat, and Belford tap water sucks, but that is where the negatives END. I don't know how there are not five stars in every review. Every dish I've ever tried that's come out of this kitchen has made my head spin. And believe me, I try everybody's stuff, we all have to. I mean I feel like running around the restaurant with my plate yelling "try mine!" to the whole place. I stare at the ingredients of my food and wonder what they did to make them taste so perfect. I don't want you to go; if you could just mail them some money that would be cool, but if for some reason you really must go, firstly get a salad with butcher's bacon. Just do it. My sister's friend calls it "happy meat" which is really goofy but I guess she was going for the basics, describing how happy she is to think about it, and order it, and eat it. Then make sure at least one person in your group gets whatever meat they've been simmering since the crack of dawn. If brussels sprouts are on the menu, call me, whatever time it is I don't care, and be sure to get them. Everything here is stunning; I'd give this place five stars even in Manhattan.

Perhaps the lunch deal that the other reviewer posted would have made me give this a higher rating, but dinner was quite underwhelming. The prices here don't match the meal. It was a pretty cold Saturday night that we decided to try the Belford Bistro. It is a cute little space in an otherwise unimpressive strip mall. Our waitress was great. The food on the other hand was just so-so. My fiancée wanted to try a Bomberger, their signature hamburger. The waitress told us that they were out of them the night before and also tonight. I found it a little ridiculous that Sabatos butcher is practically next door and this place doesn't stock a burger for the entire weekend? Maybe because it was the most inexpensive meal on the menu and they want to push the higher items? My mother ordered the scallops which were full of sand. Some sand is to be expected I suppose, but too much can ruin the meal. My tuna entree more resembled an appetizer serving and didn't have the flavor I was looking for. There's better restaurants around, and at $30 per entree, you're better off trying elsewhere.

Review from John B.
Middletown, NJ
Went back for another prix fixe lunch...this time with my brother-in-law. Were the last customers for lunch. This time I went for the French onion soup ($3 extra)---verdict: pass it up...cheeze was black in several places, taste was "unique" but not in a good way. Had the steak sandwich for main course and liked it pretty well. Altogether had the feeling of a place operating with the second team in charge.
