Their fall/winter stuff is in and it's GREAT! Eugy bought me the CUTEST jacket ever by mike & chris. And he's the one who picked it out.

    Thanks babe! I love it!

Oh gosh.  This place bums me out.  I always like how lovely the things in the window look, but then these things end up looking not nearly as lovely on me.  And furthermore, it's all pretty much just F21 and H&M designs with much much nicer fabric .  Which I'm into, of course, but that doesn't motivate me to spend the required moneys ($325 for a jumper?).  I'd rather take my dollars to Anthropologie - they sure do do their sales up right and my parents sure did raise me more frugal than I'd like to admit.

It's all true though - the salespeople are really, really nice and the clothes are pretty much the cutest on Haight.  Go here if you're ballsier than I.

3 bummer stars, dude.  I wish it were more.

I want everything in the window. The buyers have a great eye.

And the prices are high. So either be looking for that special something or have a high clothing budget.

I hate this place.  I hate it because I love it so much.
With their stupid excellent quality and their stupid good buyer and their stupid efficient layout and their stupid semi-sale bucket.
I would like to complain that their prices are too high but I don't think they are taking any excessive mark-ups, it's all quality stuff.  They are lacking a star only because there aren't enough brands in there that I can't get elsewhere.

Not a place for bargains but it's definitely a place for subtle, beautiful fashion.  You get a great selection of local designers and that's probably what I love most about this store.  If you have a sugar daddy that doesn't mind spending a pretty penny or you want to treat yourself to a high end outfit (accessories and all) after a work bonus, I would highly recommend this place.

Dying to go back and purchase one one of the beautiful bags they have on display.  Oh yeah, another plus, super sweet sales people.  Some of the best I've ever met.

    Downside(s):

    1) Difficult parking on weekend runs to the Haight (I recommend arriving around 9:30-10 and find a spot around the park).

    2) There's only 1 dressing room; however, don't let that stop you, just keep looking until it's free.  The customers are usually just as nice as the sales people!

Super cute!! Now this is my kinda shop. Except I can barely afford anything in there... haha. Randomly went in -- I don't know why I've never noticed it before -- after the display of cute tops & Citizens!! caught my eye.

They have suuuper cute tops and dresses [for a boatload of money... $100+ for a tank], and a great collection of Citizen jeans. I tried on a couple of pairs and fell in love but decided to look through the sales bin... the first pair I grabbed were straight leg Citizens (I've been looking for some) in my size! 30% off = awesome. I left a happy camper :)

If you have thousands of dollars in your bank account and love to spend, spend, spend, then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, it's not the place for me.

I always see really cute stuff in the window, only to be shamed out of the store when I see the price tag. I mean, I'm all for having nice clothes that last you forever, but I also can't afford it. I think this place would be better off if it was half nice fancy expensive stuff/half reasonably priced stuff. Or at least have one good sale rack. Just so we can have options! No need to force out an entire class of people.

I've seen really nice places do a special on something if, say, it's the very last one they have. It would be nice if they could do something like that here, so that us poor folks would have at least a CHANCE of affording something from here. I once asked here, a while back (like couple years ago), if they ever have sales of any kind. The girl's answer was short and concise. "No." Well.. no wonder your store is empty every time I walk by it.

Four stars for cool clothes for cool girls, being ahead of the curve and fashion-forward. Everything they sell is expensive but well-made and items I bought 7 years ago are still some of my favorites.  I wish I had the dough to buy items here more often.

Minus one star for lack of normal-sized jeans. I am a size 6 and I wear the largest size they carry. I'm not sorry for myself as much for any other normal sized woman who would come in here and not be able to wear the pants. I hate this trend in boutiques.

I might just be the first male to review this place. I wish Yelp would give me a little ribbon for that, but I'm not holding out.

Anyway, I came in to buy a dress for the girlfriend. I found the only dress on Haight that I actually thought was tasteful (I'm sure Ambience had some too but my checkbook isnt that that big, ladies).

The woman behind the counter was nice.
It was pretty expensive. But oh well. Sometimes you gotta do it.

It was a painless experience. Which, in my experience in these matters, is rare. Thank you BPO for making my girl happy.

It smelled really awesome in here.  I am not sure what scent of candle they were burning, but it was great for shopping.

My second favorite thing about this place was how much of the clothing was on sale.  I try really hard not to pay full price for things, so I was pleased that it seemed like on one side of the store everything was on sale.  While the store is pretty small their selection is really great, and I managed to walk away with some black slacks that were 60% off and a cute beige top that was 50% off .  Their full price clothing is pricey so I wouldn't shop here unless there was a sale however the two women that work there are really sweet, very attentive and helpful.

This is a high end denim/casual wear store.  The store is always tidy, so thumbs up for that.  They have all the de rigeur  brands one would expect.
With that said, I really don't care for this store.  It seems so uninspired on a block full of great stores that are able to be high end and adventureous AT THE SAME TIME.
I'm all for high end denim, but everything else here bores me.  I'd rather go to Villians' vault.

This place has been one of my favorite boutiques in San Francisco for years.  They've got unique brands that not many other boutiques carry, and I even saw an awesome leather orla kiely handbag here (couldn't justify buying it).  I love so much of their inventory, that I always spend more then I should.

Although they have a wide range of price points, most of the clothing is expensive.  Also, it's a small boutique so sizes do run out.  Overall, it's a great place to shop.

This place looks great . . . when you're standing outside looking in the window. Not so great when you're inside and you start looking around and you realize that you're the only person there, the place is tiiiiiny, so the sales person/ people are right there, and then you finally find one thing that looks mostly good up close, turn over the price tag and, "a hundred bucks for a fancy t-shirt?!" As soon as someone else comes in, quickly dart outside while the salespeople are distracted by the new company.
I basically have this experience every time I come here, which sucks because the staff is really nice, the place is terribly cute, and I just plain want to like it!

I had read about Behind the Post Office on Yelp and decided to finally check it out.
It is a very cute and trendy little boutique. There didn't seem to be too much clothes here but the interior was very nice.
I wasn't too familiar with the brands here either and things seemed a bit pricey.
However, I love the name and concept of the store.
I wouldn't mind coming back to this place if I was ever on Haight again to shop here some more for a better look.

-great selection of cloths each and every time I go there

-and did I mention great selection?

I just recently became a pretty avid customer of this store. The store is nicely organized and I always enjoy their display. However, I always find difficulties to find what I like. I did buy some clothes and jeans from them but it usually takes me a few visits to find what I like. It's too bad they don't have a large selection due to the store size. I sometimes think the price is too expensive for what they offer though I'm drooling over their necklaces.

The store is hella cute and the customer service is excellent. I've become pretty popular there. Oh, if you buy any jeans from them, they will alter it for free!

Okay, I'm doing a revision for this store. They deserve to get one more star for cute new outfits that keep on coming and the customer service is more than excellent. They're always very helpful and there are times they would go above and beyond for me. Yeah, I come to this store more than I should. I think this store really influenced my style cause I don't have a hard time anymore to pick something out! I know it's still a bit more expensive for what I get, but I don't mind. Their price sometimes slightly cheaper than http://shopbop.com or Anthropologie for the same piece of clothing. I feel justified.

Behind the Post Office is such a sweet little shop on chaotic Haight street. I've been shopping there for over 8 years now however not on a regular basis and am always able to find something that I must have no matter when I drop by.

Everything is fairly priced, as the items are all well made and of good quality. I'd say $50 - 200 is about the price range for most  of the pieces.
OH! Be sure to drop by the discount trunk where I found a pair of pale lavender draw string pants for $10-15 (it was a while back but it was around that amount).

The colors tend to be more earth or soft toned and to make a generic comparison, are sort of Anthropology like but better, in that they are a tiny boutique and the quality certainly outshines the other.

I wish you had a website Behind the Post Office!! I want to see the upcoming collections!

For you guys out there looking to buy your girl jewelry but don't want to break the bank?  This is your place!

The girls behind the counter are super helpful.

It's a small store and the selection at the counter is limited but there are some jems to be uncovered.  Over the last few years, I've purchased 3 necklaces for my girlfriend, all of which she (and her friends) love.

Having worked in retail before, the clothes seem to be a little pricey but it's a small boutique in SF - what do you expect?

    PROS:
-Rare little pieces of clothes and jelewlry.
    -Super helpful staff.

    CONS:
    -Small, limited selection.

This has the best premium denim shopping in the city! I've bought several pairs there and a) the girls are super nice about helping you out with fit and size - I spent literally 25 minutes trying to decide between two pairs and they actually took me seriously b) they have the newest styles which is great and c) they do free hemming. Both my most expensive pairs of jeans were bought there and I've worn them both like crazy.

So, I think I have the Haight shopping scene deciphered. Behind the Post Office is what Abagail Morgan is to the Marina and Heidi Says is to Pac Heights. It is by far the best boutique in the very cluttered shopping area-- not insanely busy and claustrophobic as Ambiance and not selling cheaply made clothes like most of the stores in the Haight area. You can find dependable fashion staples from Splendid, Twelfth Street, Mike & Chris and Ella Moss here. Very understated and tranquil store amongst the hustle and the bustle.

This little boutique is great! They have a small selection of excellent quality clothing, jewelery, and accessories. Yes, their prices are higher than some places in Haight-Ashbury, but the quality is better and the pieces are unique. For example, Bpo sells Jill Bliss stationary, which I am a big fan of and is relatively hard to find. The staff is also really helpful and seem to like their jobs, which is a big plus in my mind because nothing is worse than a sullen, bored shop girl. Additionally, Bpo has a website and they offer free domestic shipping, which is awesome for people {like me} who live on the east coast.

Go when you're ready to splurge on jeans. Don't bother with the $60 t-shirts. Opt for the $100 blouse instead, if you can, and you'll have a classic, feel-good wardrobe staple. Leave in deep debt.

I wasn't sure how many stars to give this store.  On one hand they have great unique clothes you can't find anywhere else.  On the other hand everything (besides jeans) I touch seems to fall off the hangers. I guess that is a testiment to the silkiness of the 80 dollar cotton shirts but  it makes me feel awkward.  Also, supposedly someone I went to high school with works there and I avoid the store so I dont' have to make small talk.  I think I would give it 5 stars if I had the money to spend here...and was better at small talk.

Of all the stores on Haight, this is by far my favorite. Great selection of jeans (I saw Citizens....not sure about other brands though). I also love their dresses and jewelry collections. They have a lot of unique pieces. I like wearing things that no one else has and this store is full of clothes like that. Pricey but no piece is outrageously expensive (I don't think I've seen too much over $200-$250). This is also kind of lame, but I love the way their tags look; they're really cute!!
