This is the type of place you go to for special occasions.  Otherwise check out Elizabeth's English Bakery & Tea Shop which does it a la carte and is much more budget conscious if you do afternoon tea regularly.

Making reservations was easy.  A couple of things to note.
1) Reservations should be made the day before by 5 PM at the latest.
2) Reservations require a credit card.
3) You can call day of to add more people but it may be a problem if they haven't made enough sandwiches in advance.  This is comforting.  It lets me know the food is fresh.

The tea room is not just a tea room.  It's also a deli/cafe.  The actual sttting room is in the back and has no windows.  The owners have a done a good job of making it cozy though and it isn't too frou-frou.  My friends and I spent two hours there easily and didn't feel too claustrophobic.

What I liked about the place:
1) The staff is super nice and their phone etiquette is excellent.  I had never been there before and a rude person would probably mean I wouldn't have shown up for the tea.
2) The sandwiches were good  and the scones were great.  I was looking for my devonshire cream, but the scones were homemade and the jam was a nice complement.  Desert was fresh blackberries and whipped cream.  The piroutte was a little weird though, not very Enlish.
3) It was comfortable and relaxing, the whole point of afternnon tea.

Ah, I don't know whose posting pics here or if they need to be updated - they ain't correct - this place is TINY.

TEENY TINY.

I wanted to like it.  Quaint little place.  Their seperate little private couch room that you're not allowed to use took up half the joint.

Service was so incredibly slow....... oh man.... I've never waited so long for so little.

Yah the tea is good.  And I don't like tea.  Real men drink coffee.

The little sandwiches were good.  I wanted more.  But I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes.

The place was dead, too.  No need to wait so long for so little.  Still felt cramped even with only a few other people in the place.  Pass.

I go to the Beehive tea room to be transported through time and place, to get cozy and sip away.

Such a cute little quaint place to get tea! I didn't go out much when I was in Salt Lake, but I loved the Beehive Tea Room. The bright lanterns, great collection of books, and decor made me feel like it would be one of those places I'd frequent once I had a steady, 9-5 career during my lunch breaks. The Iced Chai Tea Latte was delicious, and so was the Lavender ice cream! I wanted to try some petit fours and scones, but since they only go by what they sell, I didn't get the chance to. A great place to meet up with any of your girlies, whether for a quick chat or a lengthy, deep conversation!

I loved the Beehive Tea Room.  Seriously.  A tea shop that also has a wedding planning library?  We are a match made in heaven.

My first day in town for Sundance, I was excited to see that my top movie pick (The September Issue) was playing in SLC near my hotel.  One block over, there was the official Sundance Cafe-- the Beehive Tea Room.

I headed over to get tickets for the wait list.  I had a pot of tea at the Beehive.  There was a sign on the door-- let us know if you are here for Sundance.  I missed the sign so when I came back, they gave me a new pot for free.  It was so nice of them.

They also do afternoon tea with reservations.  I didn't have the time but it seems like a cute place to meet with a group of girls.

This place is absolutely charming. Yes, it is just like grandmother's house, but without any of the kitsch or hokeyness (macrame anyone?)-all the lovely, beautiful, warm, and inviting qualities of her house have been expertly distilled. The scones are scrumptious, the decor intriguingly vintage, and the atmosphere is just as cozy as can be. And the girl vibe here is wonderful so it is a fantastic place to go with your girlfriends, your mother, your aunt, grandmother, etc. Staffing is wonderfully attentive and very sweet. Oh and the coffee table books are fantastically inspiring-for wedding ideas, fashion, etc. etc. Lovely place.

This was one of the first places I discovered when I moved to Salt Lake. It's a great place to sit and relax. Or you can use their wi-fi and get some work done. I love the spiced Chai tea they have. The atmosphere in the Beehive is fantastic.

Besides the drinks, they have some really good food, too.

The atmosphere is great.  It's very art deco with some funky flare.  The tea is good and the food is yummy.  If your a vegetarian this place is a great lunch spot.  Its a great place to bring a book and unwind.  I wish I could pack up the shop and move it to Los Angeles so I can chill longer.
You can even rent out areas for a small tea party.  I think its a unique gem!

This is a wonderful place to sit and relax, read a bit, work on your computer (free wifi) or just take in the world from the window on the street.  If you enjoy tea, you will enjoy this spot.  Food is ok, teas are abundant, but  My beverage of choice there is the incomparable David Rio CHAI, and trust me, its Chai to die for.   It is truly a magnificent beverage, and worthy of superlatives.

Decor is a comfortable retro look, with couches, comfy chairs and attentive servers.  The owner was a set designer (if memory serves), and I like the way she's done the rooms.   When Sundance film festival was in town this season, they were an official 'site' and they had wonderful music guests.  I would love to hear that gypsy trio again!

I had a similarly positive experiance at the Beehive Tea Room. I dropped in today for a late lunch at 2:15. I ordered the large lunch which included a house salad and sandwich for $7.50. The salad was nice a spring mix supplemented with tomatoes, cucumber, nuts, and a sweet(ish) dressing. I got the Spinach and Artichoke sandwich on multi-grain. It was served as a paste/cole slaw spread between the slices of bread with tomato and lettuce for added taste and texture. I enjoyed the spread it was good; a little salty for my taste. If I could make one change to it I'd add either onion or more lettuce to create more diversity of texture.

The service was very good. The salad was served promptly and then removed not to long after I'd finished it. The sandwich was brought out not too long thereafter.

I came in at 2:15 and left at around 3:00. It was very slow during that time, which I enjoyed. The interior is very developed and is comfy and inviting with many seating options as previously mentioned.

I think this would be a great place for a date. Especially after seeing below that their deserts are so large :)  I'll consider it after the next show I see at the Rose Wagner.

Went to Beehive Tea Room a few weeks ago for a wedding planning extravaganza.  They have quite an extensive wedding library in the back of the store, so it was a fun place to chill out and flip through old bridal magazines and idea books.

The bride to be and I shared a pot of  wedding tea which was sort of sweet.  It was good, but I think I prefer bitter.  The other bridesmaids got the tangerine tea (... or some sort of citrus?) and they were impressed.  So, everyone in the party except me is sort of a tea snob, and they were a bit put off that the server didn't tell us how long to steep the tea.  But I was fine with it.

Oh, and the best part: we got a piece of chocolate cake and it was SO massive that all four of us couldn't finish it.  Yummy!!

FYI: there is a gorgeous little parlor here that you can rent.

We found this gem by chance looking for a place to have lunch our first day in Salt Lake. Good sandwiches, good drinks, a nice menu overall. Great atmosphere-very relaxed with great music and selection of magazines and books for browsing. Loved the vintage jazz they played. The people who work there seemed very nice too.
