I only moved to Philly a month ago and I am in love with the beehive!
First of all, I have to say DENA is the BEST! She had a 15-20 minute consult with me before getting started on the cut, she really listened to what kind of look I was going for, and she honestly gave me the BEST haircut I've had in a long time. She takes her time and she always tells you what she plans on doing before actually going at it (which I appreciate).
I walked out of there feeing like a new person and she didn't even cut off a lot of hair. She is very talented and I highly recommend her!
Another perk about this place is the price. It's very reasonable and the salon itself is extremely trendy.
If it wasn't already obvious, I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. The good reviews posted are accurate and it's definitely a place everyone should look into if you want a high-end cut with low-end prices. -

I walked into Beehive Salon several months ago for a bang trim. Fortunately Deirdra was available. Understanding better than I did my bang frustrations, Deirdra lightened and shaped them perfectly. I had been resisting a haricut for awhile, as stylists always seem to cut it too short (I'm trying to grow it out) so Deirdra offered to do a slight trim at a reduced rate. That gesture and her work convinced me that finally, I've found my Philly stylist. All these months later, I scheduled a long overdue full cut and color. My delight continues. Again, Deirdra had a better sense of what I wanted than I did. An artist first and stylist second, she shaped and painted and toned and conditioned - I left with happy with a new quite magnificent head of hair and will be back.

I loooove this place! I feel like I have been to every chic and posh salon in philly...and not one of them even compares to the service and results produced by the staff at this salon haven! Completely unpretentious staff who truly care that you love their work and they are funny and friendly to boot! Book an appointment you won't be dissapointed!

Back when I looked like a girl (like a month ago, before I chopped off all my hair while PMSing, because I'm a tard), this is where I went religiously. Sam(antha) is a magician. She will cut your hair and style it with something delightful smelling, and it will look simply fabulous. The next night, when you take a shower and fall asleep with wet hair, your 'do will look even better when you wake up. And as it grows out over the next month or two, and you're too busy with work/school/life to ever put any effort into it, your layers will still look like you just got them cut. I don't know how she does it, but it's awesome. I've never met another stylist who knows how to cut hair (every single time) so that it looks so fantastic as it grows out. Mad, mad props. Thanks to Sam, dudes thought I was attractive for like two whole years! The fools!
Also, the front desk staff are some of the sweetest girls ever, and the whole salon is pretty and relaxing. -

I am not a 'metro-sexual'. I only cut my hair 4 or 5 times a year. I don't need to have a salon experience. But... I really like going to Beehive. And I'll admit it, I like having a glass of wine and a hot towel treatment before my hair gets cut. I like having my coat taken for me when I arrive and I like paying with my CC and not feeling guilty about it.
So, maybe I don't need the salon experience, but I do like it.
For a guy in the city there aren't that many good options. There are a number of corner barbershops, but they aren't that cheap and you don't always get a good cut and you certainly don't get any extras. The Beehive is a great solution. It is not too expensive. If your hair is reasonably short it will only be $35. I can only speak to the cuts I've received from Dana, but I have never been disappointed and she always is willing to tweak the cut until I'm happy. They also do free trim-ups, which is really nice option between cuts. They take appointments through email and have twitter updates about specials, which I really appreciate.
I recommend this place to the men out there, give it a try. -
Review from Ed M.
My head was a mess again. The cold of the city both making me not give a what and handing me a wonderful reason to wear a warm hat indoors. This caused permanent hat head and general scruffiness. Can't do the barbershop thing anymore except to splurge on a straight razor shave...so finding the right spot to get my hair did is tough when it's not right outside my window like in Venice.
Beehive is easy to find. The area is easy to park in. And once inside it was all good. Definitely a great vibe in here from the get go. Friendly front desk. Feels like someone's home, not just a business. It's sometimes weird as a guy to go to certain hair spots. Yet everyone made me feel so comfortable and so chillin'. Offered a beverage and a smile and not a minute of wait despite being squeezed into the schedule on the humbug.
Dena gave me a touch up. But it was much more than a "touch up" result. Gotta say, it was my favorite cut in so long I can't remember. She really has skills...And my head is a demon to control. Probably a nightmare to cut. It got done with grace, speed, efficiency, and style. Really, really ear to ear smile happy with her work. Big ups!
The whole staff takes care of you during the process. Got a hot towel on the noggin. Wash. Some face rubbin's. And I have to admit...and I'm not ashamed (But I am blushing profusely) to say this...It felt really good to be pampered by a crew of attractive, cool women who are mad gifted at each of their respective skills. Not used to being pampered. Weird, but cool. Like yoga...At first it's intriguing on the surface, even with the stigmas. Then it's confusing. Eventually you surrender. Then everything's gravy.
There's massages and waxing here too. Not an expert, but if they made me look good, I'm sure that they do women's cuts expertly as well. Can't say enough goods about this place.
Beehive is on point in every form, fashion, and cut. -

I went to the Beehive for the first time a few days ago. I am moving to the neighborhood and needed a place to get my brows waxed and possibly my hair cut and the Beehive was close and had pretty great reviews on yelp.
I called in the morning for a brow waxing appointment and spoke with a friendly woman who informed me they take appointments and walk ins so I could make an appointment if I wanted but it was by no means mandatory. Great news because most of the time I decide to get my brows waxed after I take a longer-than-usual-look in the mirror and must have them done NOW! I asked if they had a hair appointment by chance because I had a bridal shower that weekend and had been slacking. They said they did and I booked it for 330 pm.
I arrived a few minutes early - the shop itself is bright, clean, and very welcoming. Some salons I've been in in the past have a very "super cool" feel to them and the receptionist is more concerned with her nails/hair/facebook status than with me - especially since I am clearly NOT a salon regular with highlights and extensions and fancy hair and whatever else one gets done at fancy salons. ANYWAY! The place is cool and I immediately wanted to love it!
I was taken upstairs within 2 minutes by Lora (I am not positive on the spelling) to get my eyebrows waxed. We went into a small private room that was clean, comfy, and pretty standard for eyebrow waxing. I laid down and Lora got to work. I just get my brows cleaned up, nothing fancy but Lora took the time to make sure it was perfect. I would say the whole thing took a little less than 10 minutes which I think is a totally appropriate time for eyebrow waxing. She was super friendly, talkative (but not too much!) and skilled. My eyebrows looked great - just as I wanted them too. Clean and full! She took me back downstairs, offered me a drink, and told me my stylist would be right with me.
Rob (my stylist) came to meet me in about 5 minutes. He shook my hand, did the "how are you" banter as he walked me downstairs to the other part of the salon where I would be getting my hair cut. He sat and talked to me about my hair for a few minutes and then took me to get it washed. He washed my hair himself. I didn't notice if there was a shampoo girl or not but I liked that he was doing it. We talked more and started to know each other. Plus, he is super good at the conditioner massage thing. (and one less person to tip!)
After the shampoo, we went back to the chair where Rob started cutting my hair. I was getting layers added to my long-ish hair and reintroducing bangs to the mix after a lame attempt at growing them out. Rob and I totally hit it off - we listen to the same music, hang out at the same places, etc. We talked about everything and never once did I feel like the convo was forced or awkward (which may be my least favorite thing about getting my hair done). I'm not a huge chatty cathy at salons but this convo flowed well and when there was a pause, it was accepted and he didn't try to force anything. Thanks Rob! Back to the hair - I was in the chair for about 40 minutes I'd say from start to blow dry. I loved my hair and the bangs were perfect! Rob did a great job! I have gotten many many compliments on it already and feel cute and happy again :)
I would absolutely recommend Beehive (and Rob in particular!) for haircuts. The haircut was reasonable ($55) and the brows were $15. I personally think thats a little pricey for brows (I think $10 is a good price). The would really be the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. -

Beehive is my salon for everything! It has lots of services without the hefty price tags and snobbery of some Center City places. Other places make me feel like I need to primp before I even go to get beautiful to get good service but not Beehive. They make great use of their space in an old house which definitely adds to the charm. There a bunch of services- I have gotten hair cuts, a massage and a pedi here and was a fan of them all. Vanessa has done the majority of my haircuts and she is a hoot. We always spend the whole time talking which is so much better than the stony silence that can make me hope for a swift cut. Each time I see her she takes the time to ask what I'm looking for and make suggestions.
Beehive's major bonus: monthly specials! Go to their website to see what great things they have discounted each month- 15% off color or $55 for a one hour massage? Yes, please! -

I am in love with my haircut! Dena is amazing!!
I've been having trouble finding a stylist who has the balls to cut my hair as short as I want it. I explained to Dena what I wanted and she did a beautiful job. It is cut exactly how I wanted and it looks incredible! My husband hates my hair short and he even loves it!
I will absolutely be back!! -

I felt like a new woman after leaving the Beehive.
I am never going to another salon.
Set up your appointment, and GO.
My yellow hair (from many bad colorings and build up) is now platinum, stylish, and fabulous. Thank you, Ev, for reading my mind and also turning my onto my new favorite product, Moroccan oil.

Beehive was WONDERFUL. I have been looking for an affordable, stylish salon since moving to philadelphia, and they exceeded my expectations. The staff is friendly and they take the time to make sure you get what you came in for.
I've been twice- once for a facial and once for a brow wax and haircut. I have super fine and super curly hair, and Vanessa worked WONDERS.
After salon-hopping all over the city for the last year, I'll definitely be back. She made conversation, but wasnt over-the-top, which made me feel comfortable. AND my hair looks fantastic. Although it wasnt exactly what I thought I wanted, she was right- this fits my routine (ponytail) better, and frames my face nicely.
The woman who did my facial a few months ago and then a brow wax recently (I think her name was Jana?) is lovely. She's very complimentary- as in not free but that she takes the time to say something nice about other people, every time.
I think their prices are fair- for GREAT service and an enjoyable experience. Check their website for monthly specials! -

This place is the best! Came to town just for the weekend and was looking for something to do in the Fairmount area. Walking home from breakfast (at Ryebread, just a few doors down, also highly recommended) I noticed a sign in the window for 1-hr massage for $55! I looked on Yelp and saw the tips to check their website for specials and found one for a 1/2 hour facial, 1/2 hour massage, plus mani or pedi for $80 and went right inside and booked it! They were able to fit me in about an hour and a half later and it was AWESOME! All three parts were great although the pedi was probably my least favorite of the three. Don't go here if you're looking for a big spa pedicure. But if you just want your feet cleaned up, cuticles taken care of and a great polish they definitely do that. The pedicure station was slightly make-shift but comfortable. The girl did a great job. All in all, an A+ goes to Beehive with excellent services and very friendly folks. The receptionist was just as sweet as she could be and everyone was very helpful and called me by name. Go here for sure!

I have to admit I'm an Aveda junkie, but after experiencing Beehive I'm never leaving! I have curly hair and a hair cut can make or break your entire look. Often times I would have my hair cut at other places and the beautician would make it look amazing but as soon as I got home it would never be the same. Beehive got EVERYTHING right!! My hair still looks fantastic 6 weeks out, they didn't cut it too short, and although I didn't leave the salon all done up my beautician gave me realistic advice on how to replicate the style! Go...you won't regret it.

I stumbled across the Beehive 3 years ago when I was looking for a last minute cut. I am completely happy with Vanessa. I have fine, thin hair that I don't like to fuss with and I am older. I have gone to many stylists -- some very good but too inconvenient-- and Vanessa gives me the best results. I think this is because she listens, offers suggestions and even has vetoed some of my ideas.
She is a funny and interesting, no nonsense.
I have difficult brows too, and Samantha does a great job with the little that I have. Savon is very sweet and a very excellent manicurist.
I just wish they had a better chair . -

I am a girl who gets around. And by that, I mean I've been to a lot of salons. A lot. So I feel extra qualified to write this review.
After hearing about Kate M. and Alexandra S.'s mind blowing experiences at The Beehive, and open to trying something new, I decided to check it out for myself. And lo and behold, every review of this shop was spot on. From the time I walked in the door I knew it was going to be awesome. And Brie, the stylist who cut my hair, did an amazing job. Yes, she's that good. And very cool to boot. So now I'm rocking the Rhianna / '80's haircut of my dreams, courtesy of her.
If you have hair, then you must go here. And the cherry on top of this already delicious cupcake is that it's super affordable. It's priced by hair length, so I got all this for $35. And that is worth 5 stars in itself.
Yeah...come to think of it, if I could give The Beehive 10 stars I would. So what are you waiting for? Go! And get ready for their new space that's opening sometime next month just down the block. You will be in hair heaven. -

:( How I miss the beehive of old.
I called to set up an appointment with my former stylist only to learn she is no longer there. Sigh... I wanted to put my purple/blue highlights back in and she and I had talked about it. I explained what I wanted: haircut + electric purple highlights and the receptionist suggested I schedule a consultation since I wanted something "unusual."
So I went in for a consultation. New stylist shows me the two options I have for color. One is definitely eggplant. The other is more of a reddish eggplant. Neither are bright shocking electric purple. My consultation is $20, which apparently will be put toward my actual cut and color.
After a day of deliberating, I cancel the appointment and decide to eat the $20. Here's the thing: if you can't do electric purple, just freakin' tell me. Don't lure me in with a consultation and then charge me for something you really won't be able to do. Grr.
Off to find a new salon. Again.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Thank goodness I am no longer in the land of 75$ haircuts.
Vanessa was thorough, professional, and generally a badass. She explained her process, which I appreciate because haircuts are always a little traumatic for me. My hair feels thirty times more healthy and looks awesome. I'll def be back.
...and, I didn't even have to shop around and get busted haircuts before I found a good place. Halleluja.Listed in: Phairmount, the new faves, Make me look pretty

It's time for me to jump on the "Yay Beehive!" Bandwagon.
I needed a change, but I didn't know what. So I decided to try a new hair salon. This was a bold move for me, since I am very afraid of hair stylists. It's the awkward conversations and the fear that you'll end up looking like a poodle (and not wanting to). But I opted for change, and it changed my life. At Beehive, everyone is so nice and friendly. For instance, more than one person offered me something to drink.
They are moving, but this location seemed cute enough. They had big, round mirrors in front of the chairs, and tons of bees, everywhere. It all added to the air that it was something more than a salon. It was somewhere you could be comfortable and comfortable with the person you are.
Everybody was nice, sure. The place is cute, ok. The reason this place truly deserves five stars is Lena and the cut that she gave me. Even though I went in there not knowing what I wanted, she did such an amazing job making sure that I had the cut I wanted. At every step, she asked my opinion, and smiled when she gave hers. When I gave her free reign, she go so excited, but then backed off saying, "If you leave it up to me, I'm going to cut shapes into it. But I don't want to scare you away the first time. We'll leave that for the next visit."
Next time, Lena, you're cutting some shapes into my hair!
Edit- I'm adding this because I don't think I made it clear enough. This might just be the best haircut I've ever had. Ever. It turned my very fine, very flat hair into this thick looking, very stylish cut. It's never out of place, and it sleeps well. I couldn't ask for more.Listed in: ROTDs, Best of 2008, Let the sun shine!

I think this place is better as a haircut place than a place to get a pedicure. I also had an eyebrow wax here, which was great. Meredith was very knowledgeable and friendly, chatting with me the entire time. She even gave me a few samples for my sensitive skin.
The pedicure, on the other hand, was just okay. The gal who did my nails admitted that she usually does hair and wasn't a nail tech. Uhh?! She pretty much didn't know what she was doing. All she did was remove my old polish, file my nails down, and paint. No cuticle removal, no intense buffing of my heels (it was a little half-assed, imo), no cutting my nails from the side, no attention to detail really. Plus, there are no pedi tubs here; instead, it was literally a basin of water balanced on a stool. Don't get me wrong; she was super nice, but she wasn't doing the job she usually does. I walked out of there with nails looking like I had done them myself, complete with residue from the white paint still on my skin.
I recommend this place for eyebrow waxing, but definitely save your toes for another pedi place. -

Where do I even begin? I came in expecting nothing less than a totally awesome haircut, due to all the buzz I've been hearing from friends and fellow yelpers about this place. A fabulous haircut was definitely received, and in record time! (While this may sound scary to some, it's actually a good thing when a stylist can keep schedule - especially if you're like me and have a busy day ahead that just can't be approached with lackluster hair.) Lena did a fantastic job, and I know it's going to grow out well, too.
I was the first customer in their new location, but everyone was so polished and professional, it felt like they'd been settled in for months. The salon itself is four floors of GORGEOUSNESS. It was daunting at first, just because salons that are polished and beautiful are intimidating to me and my wallet.
I'm not used to being "pampered", or to soothing salon aesthetics like those I encountered at the Beehive, but I loved every minute of the experience, and it came out to the reasonable price of $45. That's a small price to pay to be treated like the coolest kid in the royal family.
Oh, and if I could, I'd award bonus stars for the friendly giant pooch I encountered in my first moments there. I love big dogs!Listed in: Phillaaaaaayyyy

I went to the Beehive because my finger and toenails was TRIFLIN'! Usually I stop in wherever is close by on a whim, but for whatever reason, I chose to make an appointment at a salon. My experience did not disappoint!
Sam, who painted my fingers and toes pearly white, was friendly, funny and provided great conversation; plus she even shared a bag of pretzels with me as a snack before my manicure. The whole staff was friendly, and the experience was more intimate than that of any old nail place. They even offered me an adult beverage with my manicure.
The price difference was only a couple of dollars more than other nail salons, but the experience I had there was worth it. I will be back. -

This was my first stop in Philly since I've moved here, and I couldn't be happier. I usually don't like a haircut for a few days but I am very happy with the service and strongly recommend it... on second thought ... if my recommendation is too strong it might be harder to get an appointment... I recommend it. Vanessa knew what she was doing and had an opinion about my hair when I asked her (which always helps me when I'm indecisive).

I am so happy! This place is amazing! I LOVE my haircut!
I got over a foot chopped off and I didn't really know what kind of cut I wanted when I walked into the Beehive. I had Brie and she rocks. She listened and had me go through a book and show her what I liked and disliked. She cut my hair in a style that works with my hair. I love my haircut....have I mentioned that lately? They then called up about a week later to see how I was doing with my new haircut and if I had any problems with the product that I bought.
The whole atmosphere is comfortable and everyone is nice. I had my hair cut over two weeks ago and I love it more every day. It's growing out fabulously. This place ROCKS! -

First off, thanks to you guys for your glowing reviews -- I always thought this place looked cool, but once I realized it was so close to my apartment, it just took a glance at Beehive's Yelp page to get me to call and make an appointment.
Let me just say, this is one of my new favorite places on earth. I love getting my hair cut because -- since I'm poor -- this is as close as it gets to a relaxing spa treatment for me. And this is the first salon I truly have ever felt at home in. Firstly, the whole alterna-girl-type atmosphere made me feel totally comfortable, like I'd finally found my hair people. And the fact that everyone there is so super nice was icing on the cake.
Also, I was thrilled to finally have someone get what I meant when I said I'd like to have "fun/funky hair". Lena was awesome and talked to me through the entire process, telling me what the alternatives that she could do were and taking me through level by level until we got my hair as fun as I wanted it [we stopped short of a fashion mullet -- and though I don't think I could ever pull that off, I love that she gave me the option]. I also have to say, I adore the shampoo/conditioner they use. It smells and feels like, in the words of one of Lena's other clients, "Altoids for your hair."
It was a bit more that I'd usually pay for a haircut [I have long hair, which warrants a $55+ charge], but it was worth it to me. YAY BEEHIVE!Listed in: My Neighborhood

I tried soo sooo hard to fall in love with this place. the rest of philly loves them, why not me???? So too scared to try a haircut, which seems to be what everyone is raving about, I decided to go with waxing.. In my quest to find a decent waxing place in Philly I thought why not the Beehive.. Soo I booked an eyebrow and bikini wax
The beehive has moved down the street from their old locale and although I liked their new building, I found it to be too airy and impersonal. Whatevs- as long as the waxing is great and minimally painful I'll be back... Unfortunately I walked away disappointed. The bikini wax was uneven- yep uneven- and some hairs were left behind- lame! The eyebrow wax was way better, but definitely not worth returning for. Guess the beehive won't be my new waxing locale...1 Previous Review: Show all »

I'm sold!
I did some thorough research for a new salon (via Yelp!) and wound up at the Beehive. (BTW they love all the yelping!)
The place, which is new, apparently, is immaculate. It's brightly lit, it's huge, it's fun, and it's friendly. I was greeted and chatted up before my stylist, Amy, came up and introduced herself. We sat on the couch and talked about my hair and then went downstairs for the cut. I really only wanted a trim because I'm growing it out, and she respected that. We had some fun with my bangs, and I got what I wanted. The thing that I really liked was that after she styled it (minimally, to my pleasure), she showed me a few ways I could to it up or style it, which is awesome when you are growing your hair and getting kind of bored with it.
I'll be back and will probably be using their other services in the near future!
ADDENDUM:
I DID go back! I made an appointment for a facial, just for the hell of it, and it was absolutely worth it. It was completely relaxing and I felt like a million bucks for the rest of the day. I would recommend this to anyone! -

Grats to the Beehive on their new diggs! The shop's not at 2319 anymore; I don't remember the new address, but it's just a few doors down on Fairmount. A *beautiful* new place, multi-leveled, more space.
As part of a promotion with the move, I took advantage of some of their new services & got a manicure & pedicure. (They also now offer more spa treatments, massages, facials, etc.) The pedicure was amazing. I'm a guy, so I didn't get anything fancy with the nails or whatever; but he took care of some ugly calluses, trimmed & buffed the toenails, and made my feet feel like they were royalty. The manicure was okay; I think he spent more time with my feet than he had planned, so the manicure was a little rushed, but totally adequate.
Make sure to check out their new spa services at the new groovy shop.Listed in: My Neighborhood

San Francisco, CA
I found The Beehive on Yelp in June 08 and have been a happy customer since.
For starters, I have lots of shoulder-length, naturally curly/wavy hair. And my hair does not love every stylist. With the right person, my hair can be perky, adorable, sexy, or just perfect. With the wrong one, it rebels and turns cow-licky and frizzy. So I'm picky about stylists.
I loved what Lena did with my hair, but was turned off by her demeanor.
After two cuts, I switched to Amy, who owns the salon. She's an impressive woman and a great stylist. My hair feels healthier and I love the quality of the cuts she gives. I have also gotten a massage and bought numerous products there. All have been wonderful.
In short, the staff is warm and inviting, interested in doing a great job, and professional. It's as homey and inviting as they come. This place is a real gem. -

I adore Lena at the Beehive; she is the reason I go there. I get tons of compliments on my hair since she worked her magic. She asks your opinion throughout the cut and really takes the time to make sure you are happy. She is friendly, very talented, and has given me the best haircuts I have ever had.
My only negative experience was one time when Amy cut my hair instead of Lena because of a scheduling conflict. Amy was obviously rushing, took off 3 inches when I said 1 and didn't consult me throughout the process. If she didn't have time to really listen to me, she should not have let them book me. I had to wait it out until my hair grew out enough for Lena to work with. She is the only person I will let touch my hair now. -

This salon is great. When I lived in Philadelphia I would go here for great and trendy cuts. The stylists are super friendly and are able to give you a fabulous cut.
The prices are very reasonable. I also live the funky bee decor. If you want a great hair cut at a good price this is the place. You will not be disappointed. -

I love the Beehive Salon. EVERYBODY who works in this place is nice AND funny. I went there specifically on a recommendation by a friend (JEAN S) to see Savon to do my nails. Savon is known for her excellent nail art. I had a show with my band that night, and I wanted to feel awesome, so I went to see Savon. I didn't know what I wanted exactly, but it turns out she did! She made my nails a melange of black, hot pink, silver, and white designs, along with rhinestones on my pointer fingers. Go to Savon if you want some fun nail art! She's awesome. I can't wait to return. Plus everyone is so hospitable, giving you coffee, and there is also a bin filled with candy (when I went, Skittles). Loves it.

I got a simple cut here on Saturday and found it to be a really good experience. Everyone here seemed to be in good spirits and the atmosphere was pleasant. I am a guy that normally waits a bit too long to get his haircut. This place may well change that for me. I'm actually looking forward to going back as it was a relaxing way to spend an hour Saturday morning. Maybe I'll try the massage next time.

What a great salon. And I LOVE my stylist Dena! She is so talented. I have curly, thin hair, which has resulted in numerous really bad cuts in the past, but Dena knows EXACTLY what I need and want. Love her. The salon itself is super clean and stylish without being ridiculous. Service is very professional and friendly. Appointments always seem really easy. Highly recommended.

Great haircut from Vanessa!! 1st time there. Recommended by a friend who's a long time client of Vanessa's. Not only do I love my haircut but she sat down with me for a consult and was really interested to find out what I wanted - and she asked the most interesting questions in doing so!! She's super fun and interesting, and checked to make sure I was comfortable with everything she was going to do. And the salon is really cute and quirky!

I travel to the Beehive all the way from my house in dirty South Philly--or as Vanessa, my amazing retired raver stylist calls it, "Alabama." The staff is super sweet. They treat me luxuriously with complimentary coffee, scalp massages, and hot towels. And the price and attitude is right.

i love the beehive. they know hair, they know customer service and they are very cool, without being too hip to handle. i have never disliked a cut from the beehive, and i always enjoy going there. it really does feel like you are hanging out in someone's house, complete with sleepy dogs, coffee, and good music and good conversation. the ladies know hair and can give really smart suggestions. i'm always really comfortable going in with no real idea of what i want and talking it through with amy, mary or bree. they are also a really cool part of the community, displaying local art work, taking part in events and staying in tune withe neighborhood issues.
they are a highlight of fairmount! -

It is a rarity that I write a review but when its warranted and can save someones hair I find the need to. I am in the industry and have been told I'm a dream client since I don't mind what you wanna do to my hair...just make it look good. When you have to say to the stylist "am I done" and she says "well what do you mean" and you are sitting there with wet frizzed out hair...that should be a sign to never return. This was my experience with Vanessa at Beehive. I went based on reviews I have read but I think these reviews might be written by the Beehive themselves! I walked in with curly hair wanting a nice style that I could wear curly and continue growing the legnth...walked out with a SHORT unfinished bob WET since Vanessa said she "didn't have time" and didn't understand what "finished" meant...So since I get heated quickly...I left (figured i'd go home and style it better anyway) I walked across the street to do some shopping and Vanessa was standing there talking crap about me to another stylist. For a lady with supposedly years of experience, Vanessa lacks professionalism and the ability to listen to what her client is looking for! Only good thing about it was the shampoo and the fact that it was cheap! Cant wait til my hair grows back out so I can go back to my guy at Beans!

This salon rocks! When I lived in Philly, Bree and Amy kept my hair looking sassy and great. Even my mother would fly to Philly from Ohio just so Amy could work her magic. They have excellent prices and charge by hair length (short, medium, long), rather than having lame "men's" and "women's" cut prices. Everyone at the Beehive is lovely and friendly. After my first cut, Peg called me to check on the cut and the service and when I moved to Chicago, they gladly helped me to find a local salon. I can't wait to be back in Philly for a visit so I can see their new digs and get a cool new 'do.

I just moved to the neighborhood. This was my first time getting my hair cut at the Beehive and Dana was awesome. I will be a regular customer from now on. The location is great too with coffee shops, bars, and restaurants all within a block or two. Thanks, Dana! See you in a few weeks.
