Just got back from a Sunday afternoon jaunt to Bedford Farms and man... that was fun.

I got a kids' sundae with strawberry ice cream and hot fudge.  The girl asked whether I wanted whipped cream or marshmallow on it.  Marshmallow?  Really?  I just had to try it.  The marshmallow topping didn't really taste like much, but the hot fudge was delicious and my strawberry ice cream was out of this world.  Slightly icy in texture, with a great flavor of real strawberries and a slight tartness to it.  Wow.  My strawberry ice cream itch got scratched big-time.

We lifted up the hatch of our car and sat on the tailgate munching our ice cream and watching the people.  Lots of cute, well-behaved kids around.  It was a lovely way to spend an hour on a summer afternoon.

Family-owned, a Bedford tradition for celebrating or consoling anything.  Won the big game?  Lost a race?  Start of summer? End of camp? Made the honor role? Got an F? Let's go to Bedford Farms!

Ice Cream is A+  Plenty of flavors, all freshly made.  Frozen yogurt if you're feeling healthy, sundaes if you dare, usually some new experimental flavors, and some soft ice cream too.  If you're daring, get a cone. They're huge. If you want to take your time, make the safe choice and get a cup.

Waiting in line on a hot summer night fighting mosquitoes - the squad of rosy-cheeked ice cream scoopers keeps the line moving pretty well.

Parking can be difficult when everyone in town has the urge.  Avoid the crush and park on the left, behind the building.

Go for the ice cream and the small town atmosphere.  Catch up with  neighbors, enjoy a constant high school reunion, or sit for a spell.

A good destination if you ride in on the MinuteMan Bikeway. About a mile from the end of the line.

Really good ice cream at fair prices. One word of caution, do not order a large ice cream unless you typically eat about a quart of ice cream at each sitting! Especially if it's a hot summer day, unless you enjoy licking melted ice cream from your forearms.

A true Bedford institution, Bedford Farms is the place to be pretty much every night in the summer.  The serving sizes are monstrous, especially for the price.  The frappes and other drinks are always a great choice too, looove the rasberry lime rickey and orange sherbet freeze.  Even though it looks like theres a giant line, all the windows are usually open and youll soon be stumbling over your words when you find yourself at the front of the line still trying to decide what to order.   They have all the standard flavors (including my personal favorite, peppermint stick, year round) and a lot of specialty flavors (green monster and moose tracks are my two faves).

In grade school this was a weekly treat from mom.  In high school we would come here and tell the girls working where we were partying or ask them where we should be partying because everyone comes here.   In college it was a breeding ground for awkward run-ins with classmates you haven't seen since graduation.  I plan on coming to Bedford Farms every time I'm in Bedford until either I die or they die and I would put my money on me dying first.

===   Ice cream  &  sex are so relevant, aren't they?   ===

# Have you ever seen anyone fake liking ice cream?  ......answer is a definite NO.

# Any women reading this review raising your hand if you've ever faked orgasm. Answer will be a definite yes!. (unless you are virgin like Britney Spear WAS !!! )

# Ice cream is a business aiming to make their customer happy. Sex aims to make both parties happy. Who want to have nasty lousy sex or gross tasted ice cream?   Nobody, right?

# Have you ever really had bad ice cream that you won't even want to eat it?  Hardly, right?   If yes, that ice cream parlor will not last.  Or you must be an idiot paying for something you don't enjoy it.

But sex, every single woman must have faked orgasm at least once in the life time. You will never get caught even you lie to your man while telling him that he is your sex god (and back of your mind thinking "uh, get this donkey off me" or badly want to put a middle page of Sunday Globe covering his face instead of smacking him with the thick fat Sunday Globe paper.  But you will never throw ice cream away, and want to eat til last drop coz the weather is damn hot and ice cream is damn yummy. So ice cream makes people at all age happy like faking orgasm makes your man a very happy man.

# If ice cream pass expiration date, you probably don't know, don't care, and gonna eat it anyway. Like your man's performance which may long have passed your sexual expiration date, you will not dump that cute donkey over a cucumber or a pepermill on the kitchen shelf.

Ok....back to ice cream only, no poor cow involved.

I love Bedford Farm ice cream, just an honest joy. I keep coming back again and again every summer.   So I will suggest your man to buy a favorite pint of ice cream from Bedford farm and foreplay it with you.  Make it banana split with hot fudge, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and banana..... instead of conventional and boring fixing (whipped cream, strawberry, choc sauce and champagne).  I bet you can't even fake anything coz ice cream will chill the hell of you.... and your toes will curl like you made out with your cow (boy) for the first time.

And I am not lying to you. This ice cream is one of the best in MA. At least, try it once in a life time like the faked orgasm...

Portion is huge & sure surprise your man (enough to look down and make a comparison) & sure a big surprise like you faked loud screaming in the bedroom last night.  Pick up a thick Sunday Globe and smack your man to save your screamer.  Ice cream here is a sure orgasm over your donkey man at home :)

After you try the ice cream here, your 3 yes scream would be a different one you just did last night.  Trust me.

Huge portions. I thought it was more of a farm based on the name, but it just an ice cream stand.  It's good

When my grandpa, a man of great stature, came for a visit we told him one scoop was all he would need.  He didn't listen.

This place is a classic hometown treat.  Walking up to a window, sitting on a bench amongst an always crowded parking lot.

And oh yeah---the ice cream is delicious.

This is kind of far out for me, but the ice cream is reeeally good. It's been around for ages, and was a Best of Boston for 2005 (if not more). It feels really good to know that this came from Bedford Farm too, for some reason it just makes it feel more naturally yummy!

They have some really innovative flavours here, and their milkshakes are really delicious. Ice cream is creamy but not overly heavy, but very very rich. It is much more reasonably priced than many ice cream places in the city, but the location is a bit obscure for me considering I live in the Back Bay.

I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, as there are so many other great ice cream places out there and this one wasn't so absolutely incredible that it's drawing me back, but it WAS really very good and if I were passing by or nearer to the area, I'd definitely stop by. My friend who grew up closer to the area is obsessed with it though!

Outstanding ice cream pies, with tasty toppings, incredibly dense filling, and amazing graham cracker crust - and I don't usually like graham cracker. Wow. The things are so dense they could probably sit out in the summer sun for a day and not melt. I can't stop eating it. Please, someone help me!
And then the ice cream cones - let's just say that the small ain't small - no way. It's BIG. And the ice cream is stuffed with lots of whatever it needs to be stuffed with. They're not holding back - they're giving you the real deal here folks. Which is why everyone from nuns in habits to bikers in black leather show up here.

As much as I like making the trip out to Kimball's in Carlisle on a warm summer night, I think I might actually like the ice cream at Bedford Farms a little better. It isn't quite as rich, and definitely not as huge (the ice creams at Kimball's really are too big, if you can believe that). Sure, the atmosphere is nothing like that at Kimball's, but it's a bit closer to Boston and the ice cream is outstanding.

The only thing that was keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is the fact that it's not T accessible and is a bit of a distance (20 minute drive) from Boston, but I've since decided that that reason doesn't quite outweigh the absolute awesomeness of their ice cream (in addition to their Mississippi Mud, I've become a huge fan of their Maple Walnut). As such, I'm bumping them up a notch to their well-deserved 5-star glory.

The BEST strawberry ice cream I've EVER had.

And I'm registered as a chocolate ice cream fan! Which means the strawberry is fantastic for me to make the switch.

Some friends lured me out on a bike ride with the promise of ice cream midway, and of course I obliged. Half way through, we ended up here. This is a classic ice creamery, of the kind that seems to be so prevalent in New England

The "small" would probably be a double scoop anywhere else - I had the green monster, which was mint ice cream with oreos mixed in. It came to $3.33 for a small, which wasn't cheap, but seemed like a good value considering the portion size. I ate about half - any more would have been sheer gluttony (and I still felt mildly ill afterward). Too bad that you can't take ice cream home in a doggie bag.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for ice cream.

$4.10 buys you an absolute MOUNTAIN of ice cream.  I needed a shower after attempting (and failing) to finish one.

I usually go to the one in Concord.  I absolutely LOVE their mud pie pie (Oreo cookie crust, layer of fudge, mud pie ice cream, more fudge and crushed Oreo cookies).  Their flavors and quality of ice cream are also super.

I admit it. I'm a frozen yogurt freak. Now maybe I'm a bit biased considering that I grew up with Bedford Farms nearby, but this stuff rocks. For shizzle. Even with the fairly extensive frozen yogurt menu, I always get one of two flavors: either coffee heath bar or purple cow chips (black raspberry with milk and white choc chips - yum).

The sheer size of the scoops amazes me. I always order a kiddie and can barely finish it. Massive bargain at $3.15 if you ask me. Should you decide to order a large - don't say I didn't warn you.

Even though I don't eat ice cream, I do marvel at the sheer vastness of their ice cream menu. If you like ice cream, go check on Bedford Farms.... and don't forget to add the jimmies (and yes, if you are in new england, they are jimmies and not sprinkles. get over it.)

basically a farm stand that serves ice cream.
if you go at night, risk getting bit by tons of mosquitoes or eating it and getting it all over inside your car.
tons and tons of flavors
and absolutely GINORMOUS portions for the same amount as rancatore's or jp licks...
a small at bedford farms is the equivalent to a large in many many places!
am a fan of the green monster and coffee oreo...

I realize that my small complaints are not as important as the fact that overall the ice cream is always good quality here.  My one complaint is that my favorite flavor there, chunky chocolate pudding and my husband fav, muddy river are pretty inconsistant with the amount of stuff in the ice cream.  Sometimes I get all chip chinks others it is brownie.  My other complaint is that I can't stand the over packed pints.  The plastic bags they started using this year helped but it can still get to be a pretty big mess by the time I get home.  I know for alot of people more is better, and I understand more ice cream is better then less but I am OK with a pint being a pint and levaing it at that.

I'd say it deserves 4 stars... the regular icecream is so yummy; they have all sorts of flavors and it is soo much cheaper than any JP Licks or Coldstone. However, I am a huge fan of frozen yogurt, which they do not carry.

I absolutely love this place.  The lines get real long at night though, because the rest of the world shares my opinion.  The ice cream is delicious.  It gets a bit buggy at night too.
