So on my birthday I didn't feel like doing the club thing. Let's go to a bar! I've been hearing about this place for years, and thought what better time to check the  novelty of it than on my birthday.

It's weird to show up to Hollywood on a Friday night with the sole intentions of going to a bar given the fact that everyone is clubbing and dressed for the occasion. Meaning really short dresses that barely cover their whoo haa and crazy 5 inch stilettos. So we walked right past a huge line of people trying to make nice with the bouncers to get in a club with really loud music and found the Beauty Bar doors right next to it. I didn't have to make line and the guy at the door said "Happy Birthday" when he checked my ID.

Inside the DJ was clicking on some awesome tunes on his Mac and a lot of people were actually dancing. Just what i like! Relax environment with good music and people willing to dance. Try one of their signature cocktails, oddly enough i can't remember whether it was the Platinum Blonde or the Brunette. I guess I couldn't decide which but anyways it was a really good. Not bad prices either $5, $6.
Unfortunately i did not get the manicure because we got there too late since I got a pop tire on the freeway, in the fast lane, on the way there. But that is a completely different story to add to the adventures of Claudia &  Andrew.

Super cute place! Very original and drinks are moderately priced. I came on a tuesday night so our party pretty much had the dance floor to ourselves. The music was mellow but not boring. Think zepplin.
Also got a drink from the bouncer who was super cute and only wish he would've asked for my number!
Really enjoyed my time here just shootin the breeze with my buddies!

This place pretty much blows...and not as in blow dry.

1. I'm not into chain bars (unless it's chain bar as in underground S&M show in the basement...woo! Break out the duct tape baby!)
2. The music wasn't good at all. Totally random (and not in a good way).
3. The decor was just okay. The idea is cute, but execution was off.
4. Wasn't feeling the crowd at all.
5. I'm used to crowded bars, but  it took forever and a half to get drinks here.
6. Some guy tried to drug me...and he was so stupid he did it right in front of me and I saw him. (See #4)

I was very disappointed. I was expecting this place to be at least somewhat cool. Don't bother checking it out. Just go to their website. It looks better on there anyway.

This was probably my favorite bar of my weekend in LA.  Not quite a dive, but definitely down to earth, full of casually dressed youngish cats dancing to some slightly off the beaten path dance music (Hot Chip?  Yes, please!)  Friendly folk having a good time, as opposed to bobble-heads trying not to break a sweat by doing anything uncouth like smiling (ran into a few of those elsewhere that night).

As resident Joanna T. says, "the people here are too cool for Hollywood, but not really, because they're hanging out in Hollywood.*"  Just like me!  I love them already.

Except for that French guy.

wavy lines = anecdote alert!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the story of how accommodating and on top of it the bartenders at Beauty Bar were.
So I saddled up to a crowded bar for a drink.  Handsome (but crazy) French guy (HBCFG) says hi.
I say hi.
He says hi again.
...
I say a sentence.  Sentence does not compute.  Language barrier becomes evident.
I ignore and continue with my drink ordering process.  Then, HBCFG leans into me, unequivocally entering my personal bubble.  Without permission.  And not by accident either.
The female bartender gives me a look and says, "Do you know this guy?"
I say that I don't, but that I think he doesn't speak English very well.  I turn to him and ask him to back off please.  He comes closer.  "See?" I say to the bartender.  I think it's funny.
Then I try sign language.  Really, the universal "barrier" sign coupled with a frown and "go away please" should have worked.  Then I dropped the please.  He's all goofy smiling at me like I just asked him to come home with me.  That's when another bartender stepped in and escorted HBCFG out.
I do appreciate their looking out for me.  But I kinda feel bad for HBCFG.  Then again, I saw him later and he was smiling and joking with a bouncer down the street, so he couldn't have been too upset.
Anyway, this is a bar that goes by the motto better rude to the foreigners than risk possible violation.  And I guess I should qualify that the bartenders are accommodating and sweet as long as you aren't drunkenly pushing yourself on women who give you the universal sign to go away.
As a woman, I like to know a bar will have my back if it proves necessary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*This is probably a grave misquote and Miss T should come out of retirement to correct me.

I used to love this place but it's been going downhill ever since. The last couple times I've went the place was completely empty (they were on Thursdays).  And the last time I went on a Friday it was pretty full..... of guido dudes!  Two Stars is pretty low but I would strongly recommend going somewhere else on the weekend.  The bathrooms are pretty nasty there at times (men's at least).  The only plus side is that there really isn't a dress code and isn't a cover.

This place is ok. As others mentioned, the inside decor is very kitch, sparkly walls, etc. The whole vintage/cutesy/ 60s vibe is what initially turned me on about this place. Plus on Tuesday they play good music for Sonic.  I have been here a few times  though and it isn't all that. The problem is that the several nights I have been, it has been so dead in there that you could throw something without hitting anyone.  I always end up disappointed and I leave. There is always the Burgundy Room across the street.

On weekends the place can get busy, but the problem is that when it does get busy, the place is too tiny to hold very many people. It gets very sweaty, hot, and umcomfortable to even walk through, so forget dancing! Unless that is, you want to rub up against not- so- attractive sweaty indies!!!

Oh ya, did I mention that the parking situation is a nightmare.

The place is hit or miss, try at your own risk, just definitely don't plan on staying here too long (as you may be disappointed).

there was no wait, which was nice. pretty strong ass drinks, i think i had a lot of tequila cocktails and stumbled out into the next bar i could find.
interesting crowd, i'll say that. i'm definitely accustomed to the eastside bars, so it was refreshing to see people a bit more lively and social.
i have a feeling there are some mad creepos that frequent this bar...oh and adam banks is mad hot.

I really liked this place.

It looks like a beauty Parlor, hence the name, and it has these hair dryer chairs to go along with it.  The whole interior is pretty cool.

"Adam Banks" from the "Mighty Ducks" movie works here as a bartender and the drinks are really good.

Order the "Drop Dead Gorgeous" which comes in a martini glass.  Tis muy delicioso. :)

Great music, dance-floor, great energy, cool bartenders, good prices, no cover and just overall fun to be had here.

You have to find parking at a lost somewhere around there so be prepared to pay.

Are you looking for a red rope, a line, cover charge on the weekends and snobby bouncers? Well, you won't find that here.

Beauty Bar prides itself on being a classy establishment without all the attitude and hoopla that comes with Hollywood.  I rather enjoy the decor as it brings me back to another time and place when people went to bars to enjoy a night out with their friends not to be "scene".

This place also introduced me to the bastard step child of Jagermeister...Fernet Branca!  Two shots of the stuff will put you in the kind of mood that will have you wondering where your panties went.

If you're into that sort of stuff. :)

I just love kitsch. So, yes, I'm a fan.

The glittery walls.
The hair dryer stations.
The vintage silhouette cameos on the wall.

The hot bartenders.

They had a great selection of libations, and were able to whip us ladies up a round of delicious lemon drops made with Three Olives Grape Vodka (most bars don't carry this, for some reason...and it is fantastic). Did I mention the hot bartenders?

Cons:

Ok, I get that it's the Beauty Bar, but this place (and the one in SF as well) does smell unpleasantly and overwhelmingly like acetone and polish if you wind up having to lurk anywhere near one of the manicure stations.

If you're going to go through the trouble of putting a guy in a DJ booth, let's have him working with a little bit more than a shuffling iPod.

All in all, I'd go back for round two. I much prefer this location to the microscopic sweat-box that is the Beauty Bar in San Francisco's Mission District.

I love this bar! One of my favorites in LA. The music is always surprising me and keeping me dancing! Whether it's old school gangster rap or 80s music, I love it. The drinks are cheaper than other places I've been. It's always got a nice mixture of people as well. Not the typical "Hollywood Club Scene" that I hate. No cover charge, either! There doesn't seem to be much of a dress code so there's no pressure for girls to get too dressed up, you could totally go in a pair of jeans and a cute top! One of my fave places!

5 stars for the friendly bartender and his electric smile and pleasant manners. :)  Oh, and the fun little photo booth.

2 stars for the interior.  I dig the angle they're going for, but it missed the mark, imho.  The minute I walked through the doors it felt like a makeshift junior high dance in the gym.

Pero, it was very cute too see the bachelorette party sipping drinks in the corner.  Something about the giddiness and excitement of brides-to-be just warms my heart.  :)

Love the place. Love the decor.

Must go on a weekend since its the only time its not dead in there. But the crowd is always changing. Some nights its awesome music and chill people. Others its pretentious hipsters. But that doesn't stop me from going when I'm in the area. Maybe it's something about sitting under a hair dryer and sipping a dirty martini... maybe it's the pink glittery walls? Either way, I love this bar.

Bartenders are always cool every time I go =)

I did not have a good experience.

It's was less about the bar itself than the people it attracts.  Just a lot of spoiled brats trying to impress each other.  And it's far too crowded.  It might not be so bad except the crowd is just really intense.

I might have enjoyed this place if the dance floor was a little bigger.  Instead, while walking through to survey the joint, some fucker dancing with his girl said I was looking at him funny and pushed me.  Literally pushed me backwards with both his hands touching my shoulders.  What the fuck is that nonsense?

You couldn't pay me to go back here and listen to bad 80s music in some dark, sweaty corner while being shoved back and forth by the growing crowd.  I'll stay home, thank you very much.

Random, eclectic, cute, unique...all can describe this bar.

Main reason for going here (never having been before)? No COVER. Some other places in the area were charging $20 ( yeah no, blow me).

It was pretty full at around 11pm on Friday so there was some shoving to get to the bar (expected) but on the way I got a nice look at the decor, which I really liked. Really cute and just like a beauty shop. Sparkles galore and the adorable little antique perfume bottles in the windows really complete the look.

No idea about the price of drinks as I wasn't buying (yeah I was that bitch that night) but they've got a decent tap selection and of course every possible liquor you could want. One thing that seems to stay consistent with the bars I go to in LA: the amount of alcohol in the drinks, which is A LOT. I freaking love that.

Overall I had a good time. The crowd was mostly 20-30s and pretty random but then you never know whats lurking in Hollywood, right? I think I most liked the music which was 80-90s and I am an 80s baby so I was rocking out. I'd totally come  back again.

I survived a bar fight at Beauty Bar.

I know what you're thinking. Indie, emo people get in fights?!  Yes, yes they do.  There I was, grooving my way to the bathroom with a friend when all of a sudden - yelling, crowd parting, and pushing to the sides of the little bar, me getting brutally separated from my friend.

"Oxana!" (this isn't my friend's name, but I changed it for anonymity.)

All alone, on the side of the "fight circle" that quickly formed, I was scared I was going to get hit!  The fighters were both being held back when all of a sudden I saw my friend running through the middle of the open space towards the bathroom -- "ALLEXA!!"  I quickly followed her...  Whew.  That was close.

I've had a lot of really good times at Beauty Bar, bar fight experience included!  The crowd may be weird, but if you go with a group, you've got your own little scene-within-a-scene!

Get a drink (the bartenders make them strong), take pictures at the old-fashioned hair dryers, fiddle around a few minutes with the photobooth before you realize it's broken, then dance to remixes of johnny cash, bob dylan, and john denver. FABulous!

I enjoyed this place very much, actually. Was invited to this place on a Friday night by a few friends. Not too familiar with the Hollywood bar scene, but it was hidden on a very busy street with many popular bars/clubs.

It feels a little divey, but with a theme. Got mirrors and chairs you'd find at a beauty parlor. It got pretty crowded by 10:30pm. The patrons were a tad bit older than some other places in the area (late 20s-30s). The drinks were pretty cheap to my surprise. Had 1 glass of maker's mark and 2 glasses of gin+tonic, & it came out to $26.

Parking, obviously was an issue. If you're like me who rather enjoys small, cozier-feeling bars over jam-packed, super popular joints, you will like this place.

Was here yesterday. I think this place is ok. there is definitely better places to get shit faced. Maybe its not my kind of scene. well the drinks are cheap, there is no cover & there are hot chicks. i did enjoy the glittery walls & hair dryer stations.  the music was reallly goood, none of that electro/trance garbage. there is an atm inside! which is a plus. there is a decent selection of beers. can't go wrong with a stella artois on tap!!!!!!! there is a couple of bars right next to the beauty bar, that are happening, if this dive isn't for you. I'll probably be here again soon! i still have hope in beauty bar!!  i'll keep you posted!!!!!!!!!

Definitely not my kinda scene.  It's a pretty small area with waaay to many people, but on the bright side, there's some loungy seating.  Shots are 10 bucks a pop for almost no liquor.  On top of that, the bartender too waay to long to make 3 shots, AND our tequila shot weren't salted nor came with limes.  Loud 70s/80s music playing, which sometimes is cool, but with the type of people here, not really.  I saw some guy on guy action as well as 2 guys were checking out one of my male friends.  This was definitely a turn OFF for me, sorry.  I left right after that.  As I said, not my kinda scene.

Pros:
- 80s music?

Cons:
- Type of crowd
- Expensive, not well made drinks

I would like to begin with a note that definition of the word 'hipster' is very subjective. I bring it up because I have seen it in numerous reviews of this place so far.
I see the word tossed around by people wearing thick black framed glasses and faded 70's stadium rock tee's all the time when I'm out and am always left wondering if they are really being serious in not realizing that they are as big a bunch of hipsters as the people they claim to loathe.
This had to be pointed out because, yes, sure, Beauty Bar does have it's crowd who are there hoping people notice them and how cool the 'vintage' (re: overpriced second hand shit) shirt was, but so what? You are going to a bar on Cahuenga in Hollywood. If you don't know enough to expect that at EVERY bar there you are in trouble .

Beauty Bar is CHEAP and has no line and no cover to get in. Compared to some other places in the area with little/nothing going for it at least they are honest.
The interior is pretty unique to Cahuenga and it's surprisingly chill for a bar that can get crowded as all get out.
Despite the large number of people there on a Saturday night getting drinks was VERY easy. The bartenders that night were on their game.

If there was any complaints I'd have to say temperature control was number one. It was a bit warm in there.
Second, the DJ that night had an 'odd' mix to say the least. It was like he was spinning the music from two theme nights at the same time. I guess I liked both motifs but I would have liked it more had they been separated.

As other have said, if you are looking for a good starter bar, this is it. The cheap strong booze will get ya going. However, I also must agree that there is just something about it that doesn't lend it to being an 'all night' destination. I've spent numerous all-nighters at Burgundy Room across the street and it is even smaller and darker and danker than Beauty Bar but for some reason I am able to stay there. Perhaps the slight superficiality of the decor makes Beauty Bar a bit less 'welcoming' to an all night stay.

In any event, Friday or Saturday night is a great time to go out and start getting blitzed at Beauty Bar just don't expect to stay there all night.

Cool decor - funky and welcoming.  The bartenders were friendly.  Music was good and varied.  And no cover - gotta like that.

Now.....I was drinking champagne, ok, technically sparkling wine and it was after my first glass that I found out it was Barefoot....had I known that...anyway.....

It was a good kick-off spot for a night on the town.

I used to frequent the Beauty Bar in SF and of course needed to check the one out here. I've been back several times since aaaaaand gotta say, not impressed.

It's the same set up and decor that is the be expected from the Beauty Bar chain. (Chain? Yes, chain.) Pink glittery walls, beauty cameo silhouettes, Christmas lights, photobooth, manicure tables, salon chairs, etc. So not much to excite me.

The weirdest thing about this place is no matter how busy or how painfully empty, it seems to ALWAYS feel like a junior high dance. DJ and his/her admirer hanging close, a line of people against the bar, another line of people against the wall, one clumpy group of people near the door and a crowd of girls in the bathroom talking about the dudes they're NOT talking to.

Its a weird feeling that no adult should have to experience again. Go across the street to the Burgundy Room for a grown-up good time.

After scurrying around on Cahuenga Blvd. on a Friday night we decided to stumble in this small but quant bar/salon. They stay true to their name that's for sure! As I walked through the doors, to my right there's a woman that is getting her nails done while others were dancing and drinking around her. Truly one of the most unique bars I've been into.

The crowd consists of a mixed crowd around the ages of 25 to late 30's.  There was this one guy that was dancing his face off like no one was watching which I can totally appreciate. Whatever he was drinking that night, I wanted some.

Good to know: No cover charge

came here for a birthday party last spring. parking was a nightmare, and we overpaid in one of those shady lots in the area. loved the theme, wasn't digging the crowd. fun 80s music, stiff drinks, creepy creepsters. little smoking area with a bar that was good for me (i was a smoker at the time).

BUT... my roommate got roofied and i had to carry her unconscious body up a flight of stairs into our apartment at the end of the night. after she threw up in my car and fell out the door on the freeway off ramp. so yeah. any bar experience that results in potential rape/black market organ selling will probably not get a repeat visit from me.

the only place you'll find a dude in a suit, and a chick with a mohawk.. Quite the open bar to mix, mingle, dance, and smoke :-)
(if still permitted in the back). Also ladies, this place originated on the East Coast, to offer the ladies the only place where they can get a manicure, and martini for $10 bux..
Awesome music, great d.j.
who plays old Motley Crue, and all the newer alternative like Kings of Leon..

Hey hipster, hey hey hipster.

Yep. If you are looking to find the elusive hipster look no farther than this place on a friday or saturday night.

If it is not after 10 pm this place will be completely dead, as in just the bartender which makes it a place you don't want to stop by early.

They do some $10 martini and manicure deal on Friday's which in some ways is cool. I figured I would give it a try because, well life is short, get a mani.

I bite my nails so there wasn't much the girl could do but I got a hand massage and my cuticles cut off, so now I have pretty guy fingers.

Will I come back, negatory, well unless I am looking for a drunk hipster to take home.

So after living in So Cal for a while, I finally went to the Beauty Bar last night!!!

This place is totally my kind of bar. It's cute, it's sassy, it's fun, and it's sparkly!!! The decor is really what makes this place a knockout, but the atmosphere was super fun too. I went on a Thursday night, but the place was pretty crowded and the dance floor was hoppin'. They even played two oldies songs, I would have preferred oldies all night, but I guess I should probably stay out of Hollywood if that's what I desire..

Anyway, girl or boy, I would totally recommend checking this place out!

This is A Strange Bar In Hollyweird.
I Guess this was a Beauty Parlor from the 60's
they turned into a Bar.
Kind of Quirky 60's Interior with lots of Formica
Mixed Crowd.
It is Free to get in so I will give them 3 Stars.

I love this place. Whenever I'm out for drinks on Cahuenga in Hollywood, Beauty Bar is the main stop. Fridays and Saturdays are really the only days to go though. It's an inconsistent-sized crowd on other nights, mostly dead.

I like to walk in around 11:30-12AM-ish on Friday or Saturday. That's when the crowd really comes in. Around that time is when a line starts to form outside so if you don't want to wait 10-20 mins, get there before 11:30 and watch the crowd come in. On Friday nights, the DJ plays 80's/Classic Rock/Indy. Not really my thing. It lacks danceability. I like Saturdays though. The Saturday-scheduled DJ plays Mash-ups/indy/rock/ and just good fun dance music. The crowd's mostly my age, early 20's to late 20's. Mostly indy/hipster/hollywood crowd. It's a young, and fun vibe overall.
There's a smoking room in the back with a few windy air-conditioning vents that make it bearable to breathe. Good for the smokers. There really aren't many places to sit when it gets crowded. Bar stools at the bar are sparse and when it gets packed full of people, good luck actually sitting on one without being elbow to elbow with people trying to get drinks. There's an ATM inside, and they require a $15 minimum for credit cards. Parking is all street parking or at the over-priced private lots nearby. But it's Hollywood on a weekend, so expect to hunt for parking early.
When it gets crowded, it can get VERY crowded. Like wall to wall people. But that's when Beauty Bar is at its best. It's so fun, everyone's dancing, and having a good time.
The difference about the place is that it's not as pretentious and vain like some of the other bars on Cahuenga. It's got a good mix of all kinds of people there, and there's no cover.

Love the decor & photobooth.  Met some Japanese girls studying here, made instant friends, then made instant photos!

The not-having-a-cover thing was really cool, but the bar got packed because of it.  Drinks were cheap  ($5), and there is a weird smoking room in the back.

Eventually it got really crowded, and I think that made some people grumpy (also not so pleasant to be near).

I would definitely go back, too cute to pass up.

My compatriots were less thrilled with the Beauty Bar than I to varying degrees. However, I appriated the amazing drinks (that Three Olves Grape Vodka is the shizz), the bartender's ability to remember our entire order, the uncookie cutter like environment, and the seating options.  I am usually a bar-girl only, but with a large group of people all of whom I am DYING to talk to, the banquettes made for easy seating and changes in seating arrangements. Damn we had a good time up in there.  FYI: the bartenders are hot. No two ways about it. Call me Mrs. Robinson, it's preferable to "cougar".

Great website, great concept, great decor... poor execution.

This place is downright awkward. If Beauty Bar served food it might alleviate the feeling that you've just walked in on an 8th grade Sadie Hawkins dance with guys and girls segregated on either side of the place.

The best part of my 20 minute stay was watching girls almost or accidentally play with their hair with wet nails.  Hmmm, maybe it's a social experiment?

The nail station has got to go. One girl doing manis with other girls waiting in line, and their girlfriends awkwardly crowding the narrow space to hang out with the ones in line or getting the (not so great) manicure.

Not sure I've ever had to complain about this, but the music was way too quiet and the DJ booth needs more presence -- elevate it, make it a little larger?

Ever since Star Shoes closed down (tear), I believed in Beauty Bar would be the saving grace. I have yet to be saved.

The concept of getting your nails done while sipping a martini and a DJ spinning. Fabulous daahling.

Unfortunately, the reality is there's a strange eclectic group of rockabilies, wannabe rockers, out-of-state-I-just-moved-to-LA-to-make-it people and the occasional randoms with some lushes struggling to dance around you with so so music. Daahling why? Where is the beauty in that?

Plus I have only seen ONCE someone getting their nails done.

Beauty Bar in San Francisco- NOW we can def talk about the beauty there daahling

No cover on a Saturday Night. Need I say more?

I came here early, around 9pm on Saturday night and it couldn't have been better. It was empty, but not TOO empty. All the seats at the bar were taken, but I snagged a chair at the hair dryer. Some girls were getting their martinis and manicures (which I still need to try btw). The drinks were cheap- $6 for a cape cod. Not bad for that area!

I definitely will be back for my manicure and martini. Gotta love the hair dryer chairs! Parking is a biatch in this area. I'd tell you my secret but it wouldn't be a secret anymore, now would it?

Ooh and the bathroom was decently clean-- especially for a bar in Hollyweird.

Been here a couple of times, and I love the $10 cocktail + manicure special. The manicurists are super friendly and have great life stories.

What I don't love is that it's swarming with Euro-trash....and it's also pretty grungy.  Kinda reminds me of Barbie's house 40 years after Barbie's been a crack addict - pink and glittery, but in dire need of remodeling. Maybe that's the look it's going for?

I'd recommend Beauty Bar as a place to start the night, but definitely don't stay there too long - stay long enough to get a mani and a cocktail.
