New York, NY
My bangs were in desperate need of a shape-up after their last trim 3+ months ago, and since I was in the Chinatown area, I decided to yelp a good place. Chinatown salons are way tricky, especially if you get stuck in a place where 1) They don't speak English and you are forced to resign to your shoddy Chinglish and/or hand gestures/photos from your phone to convey what style you want or 2) The stylists don't give a crap what you ask for. Listen people, my hair isn't your canvas so please don't use your imagination.
Luckily yelp rarely steers me wrong and I found this place. I walked in around 3 or 4 PM on a Sunday, expecting a wait but they whisked me right in. My stylist was Peggy - a cute hip lady who could speak English! *cue angel noise*
My last haircut resulted in a super blunt, straight across style that made my massive head of hair look even MORE massive. I have been told that my hair is the same amount and consistency as a horses' tail. I'm not sure if that is a compliment but I'll take it!
Peggy talked me into getting layers on the top portion of my head which I have always wanted to get but never wanted to because I have no idea how to style my own hair. I knew my hair would poof up like nobody's business the moment I washed it! Peggy listened to me at first but then gently asked one more time so I relented. I'm super glad I did! I love the haircut she gave me - the first time ever in my life that I loved a haircut immediately. I guess ever since I chopped off my hair earlier in the year I have been more open to drastic changes in my hairstyle. This is coming from the girl with boob length, straight black hair, U shape in the back, and side swept bangs for 10 years.
Although a tad shorter than I would like (she did tell me she was cutting 2 inches off the front so it wasn't as if I wasn't expecting it), for $28 I am more than satisfied. I think I found my place ;D -

I went over there today to get my nails done for senior portraits,
the woman was semi friendly except she was talking about me in chinese(not knowing that I understood everything she was saying)
My nails looked fine until I got home and the polish on my nails peeled off with in 4 hours of my manicure...
there wasn't a great color selection and the lady gave me a dusty little fan to dry my nails with -

I came here based on a friend's recommendation. She told me that getting highlights, color, and cut would be $180. I called to make sure. Now, that's an incredible deal! Plus I have asian hair so I thought I'd be in good hands going to an asian place. I was sure to ask for Johnny T. My friend told me he was good as well as other reviews.
Basically I got there around 11am on a Saturday and left around 4. 5 hours is a LONG time and my body was practically aching afterwards. The things we do for beauty right?
Well, first they did the highlights and color. I wanted no red tones and only brown. About 3 hours into it, I realized the color was TOO LIGHT. So i had him change it darker. He did his best, but it was still too light for me. I had to subsequently go somewhere else to get it darker. Overall, it was great service, just not the color I was hoping for.
On a positive note, he cuts hair VERY VERY well. I was really pleased with the whole cut process and it was one of the better haircuts I've gotten in NYC. And at the prices they charge, I'd go back. Afterwards, several people commented that they liked the cut and surprisingly I found out that Johnny T actually cuts hair for some of my other friends. Go figure! -

I concur with what everyone else has already said: awesome haircuts for amazing price. I've been going for a few years and I'm caucasian with really thick, irregularly wavy hair. I've worked with both the Johnnys and had great experiences with both. you can usually walk in, but I usually call that morning.

Review from Alice C.
I need to preface this review with the fact that I don't really care about my hair much, or at all. As my friends know, my hair is often pulled back in a ponytail or up on the top of my head in a bun. I'm the type of girl who just lets her hair air dry after showers, and I only brush my hair on occasion. I'm not picky about haircuts either. I get it cut for free as a Bumble and bumble hair model, and I just let it grow out in between the infrequent appointments. I've never cared much about it, and it shows--my hair is a pretty nasty, dry, thick mess (like a mop, my mom tells me).
Anyway, so after awhile of avoiding hair cuts to let my hair grow out, it became an even bigger unacceptable mess, and so I dragged myself here after work. I was seated in the back, where some lady gave me a pretty bumpy shampoo job. I guess $28 for a wash and cut will get you that. After finishing, she led me to a chair up front and tossed some magazines in my lap.
Fortunately, the man who ended up giving me my cut (NOT Johnny Z., but apparently Johnny-something-else--he gave me his card, but I don't remember his last initial) worked perfectly and gave me what I wanted. He listened as I described the few wants I had (bang trim, 2 inches off, not a ton of layering), and then filled in the rest as he saw fit. As a woman who isn't very picky or knowledgeable about haircuts, he did his job exactly as I needed him to.
I left satisfied--no fuss, no nonsense, and no more moppy hair atop my head. -

I was having dim sum right around the corner on an unusually hot day in May for New York when on a whim I decided to get a haircut and realized oh, I'm by the haircutting district in Chinatown so why not? I saw Beauty & Styling House on yelp and decided to give this place a try and was soo glad that I did. I am usually very protective over my long black hair which was at my waist so I was nervous at first. I walked in and was greeted by the only guy there whom I assumed was Johnny since all the reviewers mentioned a Johnny. And since his reviews were great, I thought oh goody, I got the Johnny Z everyone is talking about. But I later found out he was Andy. And ya know what? Andy did a great job.
These are the best layers I've ever had and I love the way my hair frames my face. My hair is a little shorter than I would have liked but I always feel that way after every haircut. He asked how I wanted it in the beginning and took his time but at the same time was also fast and efficient. He was very focused and concentrated in what he was doing and never once stopped to chit chat or asked how I liked it but he was a guy after all. I got a blow dry and afterward, he straightened it. My only negative was that he put the hair straightner on the floor as it warmed. Ew? Anyway, I was very relieved with the outcome and happy with the results. My hair was so sleek and shiny and weightless that I couldn't stop running my fingers through it. It came out to $28 plus tip which was about half the amount I paid uptown for similar results. So YES! I recommend this place and will be back. -

The thing about Chinese salons is that the stylists will talk about anything, anytime, anywhere. You have to like it when I'm sitting there, waiting for my curls, and you hear the stylists talking about how kids so young these days are getting STDs, and how they should take shots & undertake preventive methods. What a topic for salon gossip haha.
So anyway, went here for my digital perm, my first change EVER to my straight, volumeless Asian hair. Needless to say, I was worried. I went in and met Johnny. I thought he would be the one putting the curls but it was this other lady who didnt have much an inclination to chat (not that it was a bad thing) and looked indifferent half the time. But as long as she knew what she was doing, I'm cool with that.
The perm wasn't what I expected, but I keep getting compliments for it--and it was a change, so now I'm cool with it too, still a little on the fence. I didn't like it that I wanted my hair to my perm a lil lower, but then I came to like the start of the perm. Walked out after 3 hours, with tips & tax, under $200, so not bad. Overall, 4 stars for now. Don't expect great service tho. -

I would go here for a haircut, NEVER go here for anything other than a cut if you are not asian. My sad white-girl hair didn't know what was coming, My chinese friend received AMAZING results here. My hair is now falling out and is so fried that I literally can not comb it. I'm honestly considering shaving my head and telling people I have cancer. It also helps to speak Cantonese but Mandarin works too. English isn't your best.

Read the Yelp reviews for a good, cost efficient, hair cut by Chinatown.. and found this spot!
I think I had my hair cut by Johnny.. who did a great job.. mostly bc he listened to what I wanted. I mean what else can you ask for?
Hair wash could be better.. but I think i'm just spoiled by Flushing hair salons where they give you a 30 min massage with the wash. -
Review from Ella R.
Brooklyn, NY
I've been doing the Japanese straightening for 4 years and a friend recommended me to this place because she went last year and liked the job they did. I wish I could say the same. It took me a few weeks to realize one bad thing after another. I was perfectly happy at my regular place, but tried this one only because my friend was going and it's far less painful to sit in a chair for the afternoon with someone to talk to.
Bad sign # 1: the straightening only took 3.5-4 hours vs. the 6-7 hours at my regular place. I chalked that up to this one being more efficient, but clearly, that was not the reason.
Bad sign # 2: I have very, very thick hair and after the straightening, it's always about a quarter of its regular weight and pin-straight. But this time, I noticed a week later that my hair was much heavier than it usually is the treatment.
Bad sign # 3: My hair should remain pin-straight no matter what - clips, ponytails, scrunchies, whatever. But not this time. If I pull my hair back, there's a big dent in the back. If I clip up my hair (which I have to do every morning after I wash it because it's still so thick that I have to dry it in layers; otherwise, the top dries but underneath remains damp - this did not happen with my regular salon), it retains the dent of the clip. When it's humid or rainy, the top gets frizzy. None of this should happen until 9 or 10 months later when all the treated hair has grown out and been cut away. But I had it done over Memorial Day weekend, and it's the end of August. Only 3 months later! In fact, I noticed this problem last month. So basically, I can never do anything other than leave my hair out.
I do not at all recommend this place. I will not be going back. Instead of waiting almost a year to have the straightening done, I'll have to do it after only 6 or 7 months because of the terrible job they did. And by the way, my friend actually had to go back after a week because they didn't go close enough on her scalp - despite her telling them twice! And then they had the gall to get annoyed with her because they had to spend time redoing what they didn't do correctly the first time. Unbelievable!
Back to my regular salon. Yes, I sit there for 6 hours, but at least I know they'll do a perfect job. -

Washington, DC
Had an hour before Joe's opened up shop at 11AM this past Saturday morning. Just sat through a three hour car ride from VA to NYC and figured a shampoo and cut would be a nice way to kill some time and ultimately make it look like my greasy ass didn't shower the night before (which might of been the case but I digress).
I quickly did a Yelp scan on my handy, dandy iPhone of nearby hair salons and hit the jackpot when I read several reviews about Beauty & Styling House. I'm the kind of person that will go anywhere for a haircut, mind you. I like vareity okay?! Hmm, I definitely learned my lesson.
I called to see if I could walk right on in (I know, straight up creeper status; I was definitely standing outside the window, watching the manager pick up my phone call) and I was happy to hear, "Come right on in!" Don't mind if I do! I mean, it's not like I wasn't already standing outside... I asked for Peggy or Johnny Z to make it look like I knew was I was talking about when asked who I wanted to see (thanks, Yelp!). Peggy was free.
I was guided to the washing station where my hair was washed twice (see, I must have looked dirty enough to need two shampooings) and conditioned once and once my hair was wrapped up Princess Leia style, I was brought over to Peggy's chair.
Peggy asked what I needed, I specified an overall trim of my hair to rid split ends and such and a bang cut, since they were long enough to tuck behind my ears and I was bored of them. You know, straight across the forehead type-a deal. All the girls are doing it, don'tchaknow.
She did well on making sure all my layers were evenly cut. I was definitely digging it. Until she sprayed my bangs with water from a spray bottle and grabbed hold of the bangs in front of my eyes and snipped them all off with scissors...
In the words of Antoine Dodson's sister, "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! ARE YOU FURREAL, MY BOY?!"
I was thisclose to slapping her hands away but before I realized the madness... she snipped ALL of my bangs away. For fear of scratching my cornea with scissors, I refrained. Damn, do I regret not slapping her scissor filled hands away. I was also healing from pink eye (damn, I AM a dirty girl, aren't I...), so my vision was a little blurry, since I had also taken my glasses off.
I immediately put my glasses back on and saw my precious bangs were cut waaaay above my eyebrows. SERIOUSLY? I showed a picture, depicting what I wanted done, which were clearly BELOW the eyebrows. I gasped and said, "These are ridiculously short!" She said, "No, they're not, they're cute!"
...
I should have realized once she started spritzing my hair with water that this was a mistake. Cutting bangs wet are not a good idea, as you cannot accurately depict how they'll look once your hair is dry... Atleast IMO. And the fact that she was using scissors and not the texturizing razor thingys should have been a red flag. Sigh. You live and you learn.
I didn't feel like arguing or getting reeeeaaaaal stank about it since it was 11:10AM and the girls had already left me to go to Joe's and there were some soup dumplings calling my name from across the street.
Seriously?! I have to clip my bangs back for the next MONTH until they grow out... because if not, and I wear my bangs out... it looks like I JUST came to America. Like, my plane flew into JFK like, 5 mintues ago from Asia. I swear I was born here... I'm an American citizen... But I have been laughed at by ten people (yeah, I'm definitely keeping count) so far (even my own fiance) and told I looked ridiculous and "extra Asian" numerous times so... yeah. Thanks, guys. You are wonderful for my self-esteem, really!
Whatever. Hair grows back. I know. Overall, the experience was OK, everyone was nice, price was good, Peggy was good at cutting hair, HOWEVER, I'd refrain from having her cut bangs. Go elsewhere for that. Or look like a FOB that is native to China Town. You decide. -

I came here to fix some horrible highlights that were inflicted on me by another living social salon.
Because they are cash only, I asked what the price would be so that I could go to the ATM and get money. $70. Okay, so I pulled out $100 so that if I was happy I could tip %20.
After highlighting my hair, before shampooing and blow drying it, they asked me to pay $95. For what? $75 with tax and $20 for blow dry and wash. Feeling scammed I asked, "okay well if I just want highlights should I just walk out now with the tin foil on my head??!" suddenly she didn't speak English. I paid $95 and had $5 left over for tip.
The quality would have been good, but, as a good stylish should have known, the reason the first highlights were so bad was because I had dyed my hair dark 6 months before. The blond highlights didn't stick and my hair was broken and damaged as a result. Unhappy with these highlights I went to Alibi Salon where a stylist told me the reason my highlights weren't working. She did the best she could to fix my hair w/out causing more damage. Overall I feel scammed by Beauty & Styling House. I also paid over $300 in total for damaged unattractive hair. -

Yeah, this place is my spot for getting my hair done.
As you walk in they take you in the back and wash your hair 2 shampoos and a conditioning rinse. It is more like a massage than a hair washing the girl is very attentive. My hairdresser does an amazing job of making sure all my layers are even and takes her time styling my hair. -

I've spent a lot of time outside and at the gym during the winter, and its taken a toll on my skin. I was in need for some major skin rejuvenation. Had my appointment earlier today for a microdermabrasion. I'm really glad I decided to give this place a try. I came home looking like I had the asian glow... but my skin is soooo much softer and smoother now. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a quick fix or a healthier glow. ASK FOR MAY when you call. She is great and will take her time with you.

After reading through reviews on "cheap places to get a blow dry" I decided to give this place a try, and was not disappointed. If what you're looking for is good service for a more than decent price, here is a place to go.
I'm not Asian, and my hair is naturally very thin and curly, although it can get pretty straight with a regular blow-dry, but because it's so thin, if it's not properly done, it gets frizzy in about 5 minutes after leaving the salon. Here, the guy that took me (I didn't bother to ask his name) first dried my hair with a brush, and then worked with the iron, so I walked out with Asian-straight hair, for $15 + tip. That has been a couple of days ago, and my hair is still straight, soft and shiny.
I do think, though, that he may have burned my hair, but I wouldn't know the extension of the damage until the next wash. Talking about washing, that's one of the best part of their service: this 10 minutes of washing and massaging your head and neck... OMG! I'd go there just for that!
The staff is really nice, even thoug they speak little english -- which for me is a plus, since I go to a salon for a cut/blow dry and not to chit chat. But, as someone else said here, it's not for everyone, as the ambiance is very unique. If you're not Chinese (I'm guessing they are), it may be annoying that the staff is chatting all the time in a language you don't understand. I remember sometimes when I went to Brazilian salons and the kept talking in Portuguese, and not always saying nice things about the clients... but anyways, I'd come back to this place, not before trying out Tops Cut though. :) -

I gave this Chinatown salon my first try after a perm failure at a non-Chinese salon, specifically because Chinese are blunt - they would tell you if what you want to do won't work. When I told them that I wanted a perm, they flat out told me that the perm wouldn't come out because my hair was too thick. I tried arguing that I liked my hair thick and they just wouldn't have it - and finally I gave in to let them do whatever they felt needed. And boy the curls came and have stayed nicely!
Would have given it 5 stars, but afterward I took my mom to get a cut with me and while my hair came out great, hers was so horrible that she had to go to another to get it fixed up the next day. I guess this salon's results aren't very consistent... -

Got my hair cut & styled here this past sunday. For $30 dollars I never want to go anywhere else.

New York, NY
I ventured to Chinatown feeling completely hopeless about my thus-far-impossible-to-cut-right hair and even worse about my bootstrapping-a-startup budget, but I emerged with gorgeous, comfortable hair and a stylist I'd happily visit again. I was completely impressed by this salon and especially Peggy.
For $30 (credit cards accepted), I was treated to a double shampoo and conditioner, an excellent layered hair cut (impressive considering I have a ton of hair that is naturally curly but looks deceptively straight when long, many stylists have been fooled and cut it improperly before), a blow-dry, and even straightening!
I entered a bit nervous about getting anyone but the infamous Johnny Z, but got really lucky with Peggy. She asked me what I was looking for and verified with a picture just to be sure, then proceeded to cut and style (and tell me about different style options) for almost an hour and a half. Seriously, I have a ton of hair. She very nicely asked if I wanted the different types of thinning- to which I responded "please do anything you can think of" and I have no regrets. My hair feels light, looks great, and air dries remarkably well, which is a priceless feature for a lazy non-primper like me.
Peggy rocks and this place is an amazing deal. At this price and great service, I might even be reformed enough to get a haircut more than twice a year. -

So I was going there with the hopes that the 8 dollar blowdry thing was still going on, or... at least 15 dollars? But no, I went today and a guy greeted me. I asked how much for the blow dry and he said $20 bucks....
....
Now.... SERIOUSLY? I'm sorry, but I'm not paying 20 dollars for just a blowdry for my short hair (around my neck, but is little so it's not a big deal). If i wanted to be overcharged, I would've gone to those tacky-as-hell dominican salons _ I'm sorry, but 2 stars. The place is kinda small anyways. -

They don't have a designated receptionist. Just catch any of the hairdressers' attention.
Service was friendly and they didn't bat an eye as I walked in enjoying a scoop of Chocolate Pandan from Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. The wait was only a few minutes. I got Johnny Z by chance and he jovially let me finish up before getting started.
I'd just taken a shower so wanted to skip on the hairwashing. He still needed to rinse it to get it damp enough. Could've been a little gentler but no biggie.
He worked quickly, though seemed a little distracted at times, talking to a couple different people during the process. The whole thing only took about half an hour so it's all good. I'd skip on the hair straightening if I ever return. Not really necessary since my hair is already pretty straight and I can skip the extra heat damage.
As far as the actual cut, I had to provide a little extra guidance towards the end to clarify how I wanted side-swept bangs. Even then, he kept styling it upwards and didn't cut it as short as I'd wanted. I'd also asked for layers but it didn't seem very layer-y. I wasn't sure if this was due to miscommunication or his style of cutting.
All in all, $28 + tip is obviously cheaper than anything else you'll find in this city. -

In addition to hair care, there is a wonderful esthetician in the back room. You can get facials, microdermabrasions, waxing, etc., etc.
The lady's name is May and she is trained by the Paris-based Ella Baché salon.
She does extremely thorough facials and microdermabrasions. I feel thoroughly cleaned and refreshed every time. Also, May gives excellent massages and she doesn't really push products. And this being Chinatown, her prices are absurdly reasonable.
When you need a little pampering, give her a call! Her direct number is: 212.240.0378 (She is off Tuesdays.) -

- cheap chinatown haircut take 2..
- i needed a haircut badly...
- First plan of action: do nothing. let it grow.. accumulate until i start shedding like crazy and tumbleweeds start to form on my floors.. resort to crooked DIY bangs when my vision starts to become obstructed.. laugh at DIY bangs every time i pass a mirror...
- Plan B: suck it up and get a friggin haircut already.. yelp a cheap place with decent reviews.. of course.. chinatown.....
- i didnt scoop up a johhny as suggested.. maybe i shouldve.. i went with whoever scooped me up... some chick.. she asked me what i wanted.. a trim.. its never just a trim.. especially in chinatown.. one or two inches turns to like.. 6 or 7 usually.. i wasnt too scared.. my hair's down to my a$$ so its very forgiving..
- my input didnt help... "uh.. ok".. "sure".. "i dunno.. fix it"..-- my fault...
- she laffed at my homemade bangs too... then she continued to shred em up.. now i look chinese.. with funny bangs.. funny feathery short bangs.. im not the happiest girl.. but im also not the bitchiest.. itll grow back.. fast..
- i left with literally about 65% of my hair that i came in with... so much for a trim.. "look, this is all your hair!" she says, pointing to the floor.. "hahaha" we laff together... ---TRIM! dammit...
- and im not complaining.. i cannot get myself to pay the $120 for a haircut ill be happy with... ill take any suggestions... this mop will regenerate again, ready for another disastrous haircut..
- ohyeah - shampoo girl scratched the isht outta my head.. was great for the first minute.. then.. ooouuuch, am i bleeding yet... cut cost me $30, handed her a 40.. and expected to keep the change---nah!!
- she did a good job... i guess... -

After promising myself never to let another hairdresser from any Chinatown touch my hair, I was finally convinced to come to this place since my friend lives right across the street from it. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the experience. The people are very friendly and know quite a bit of English to cater to my lazy and poor Cantonese. The lady gave me one of the more relaxing and thorough hair washes I've had in the past year, and my stylist was friendly and followed directions well. Shoulder length cut, layers, side bangs, for $30. Not bad, not bad at all...my hair doesn't look mindblowing, but it looks pretty good. Since I probably won't be able to afford luxurious haircuts for awhile, I will most likely be coming back.

Yeah I saw the reviews on yelp. I needed to cut my hair badly-dry grown out to the middle of my back-had no style. Couldnt find anything within budget but lo and behold I read the reviews for this place and hey most seem spot on. Cost $30 for cut blow and dry ( I put +10 for tipz) so 40. Nice job peggy listened to my simple request to cut 4 in and put layers to add body. It was busy on sat, had things to do but wanted to do some purple highlights quoted at $80? but have to reshedule to another weekday when she not off (tues+weds off). Love the price, very satisfied with cut will see how color highlights go. Would definitely come back for cuts.

I have had my hair cut, colored or received keratin treatment four or five times at this place. The first time was great. However, it has been steadily downhill since then. They keep increasing the price every time (maybe because they think I'm a repeat customer), there is extremely loud, incessant chatter among the stylists and other staff in Chinese (probably Mandarin) ALL THE TIME. Nobody knows how to smile or make you feel welcome. And Johnny Z may give you a good haircut one time and an awful one the next. For a few dollars more (this place is not that inexpensive anymore) you can instead go to a decent salon with courteous, experienced and professional stylists.

I'm so tongue-tied I can't even figure out what to write (of course, as I am working on b-school apps, that could also be the reason for my writer's block).
Regardless, Johnny Z. totally made my day today. he even gave me the latest marie claire to read while he cut my hair. I walked out with a great cut and it was the first time I felt like a stylist actually WANTED to really wow me and do a good job on my hair. I was in the salon for a good hour and 15 minutes (my hair wasn't that long to begin with) and was attended to pretty much the whole time, so it wasn't like I was being ignored. He actually stood there and patiently blow-dried my hair and then straightened it out which I have never had anyone bother to do without seeming really annoyed at the task at hand. The cut itself frames my face perfectly and he didn't even use any product in my hair, so I love that it looks good on its own. The best part is that the cut was super affordable. Instead of getting haircuts twice a year, I think I'm upgrading to three times a year=)
Oh btw, this place really washes your hair! They do a more thorough job than i ever bother to do on a normal day. Great! -

thanks for the review.
Johnny Z was pretty good. He gave me a conservative haircut and very similar to what i'm asking for. Although the shampoo lady scratched my head very hard but i honestly believe thats what most asians like in their shampoo. He spent a good time consulting with me and what i should do, plus another 45 mins on cutting my hair. Although he doesn't apply much hair products but atleast i know what i will look like by recreating the look. For $30 its a great deal for a long hair cut.
He also cut my husband's hair for $20. It was ok, i think he's done more women's hair than men. He didn't give him the edgy look he wanted but again what can you expect for $20.
Over all, i am very satisfied he can be my go to guy but i still want to try other hairstylists in the area. -

I'm not one to put on make up and get my hair done, but for my friend's wedding, I decided to "splurge" a bit and get my hair straightened because I am completely incompetent in any sort of hair styling.
I found this place through Yelp and am glad I picked this spot. I got my hair washed, and the stylist did a great job of blow drying and flat-ironing it. My hair was frizz-less and super shiny. And for only $12, I would definitely consider going back. -

After reading all these great reviews on Yelp & needing a cheap cut I trekked out to C-town. I was pretty intimidated going in at first since everyone was doing their own thing but a nice shampoo lady finally noticed me & asked me what I was there for. I said cut obviously then she washed my hair, complimented my eyebrows & lead me to Johnny Z. I just wanted a simple cut, even my ends out & straight bangs and it came out ok. The blow dry wasn't too good though & (of course I didn't notice till I was back on the train) my hair isn't even that wavy. Oh and he didn't use any product at all... Overall I don't think I'll be back unless I'm in that area already...

Yelpers led me to this lovely cheap Chinatown hole in the wall salon. I got a haircut that I still love (love a little more now that it's grown out... I rock a pixie cut which is always a shock to see after I get used to my Jewfro that grows in because I'm too cheap to spend more than $25 for a haircut) for.... about $25. If you don't speak what Johnny speaks, be prepared to explain yourself well. I like that he doesn't use a lot of product afterwards, which I love. Give it a shot. If you don't like your cut.... hair grows back.

I love coming here to get my hair done. I have been going to this salon since I had hair on my head to cut. Johnny used to be my main guy but he got too busy so I switched to Suzanne who has been there since I could remember and she's excellent. I moved away for 6 years and went right back to them. I tried going other places but no one compares in skill and price as well as knows how to work on Asian hair. Made the mistake or trying someone near my house in Brooklyn for a quick trim but they butchered my hair instead so I ran back to the Beauty House and they performed a hair miracle. I will never cheat again! I took away a star because it's a trek from my house but beauty is worth it.

this is my first YELP review =)
but I really want to thank Johnny for the great haircut he gave me yesterday.
I had just gotten a haircut two weeks ago at a place in mditwon manhattan. I was soooo unhappy with it. The lady took off 4 inches when I said 1" (!!!). And it looked awful and made me look and feel so ugly for two weeks. So, i finally decided to go and get another haircut. I didn't want anything drastic. Just a fixer.
thanks to all of you yelpers, I found Johnny. I got there late, but he and the staff greeted me so kindly. They close at 7:30pm--got there at 7:05pm and my appt was at 6:45pm.
I got such an amazing hairwash and then Johnny gave me such a great haircut. i asked for layers and showed a pic of what I wanted. He nodded and told me he could do that, but would have to modify it to fit my face. I trusted him because of all of the great reviews I read on Yelp.
I walked out a happy camper. Gave him a $10 tip. It came out to be a total of $41. not bad at all. I will DEFINITELY go back. =) soooo happy that I found him. thanks.
