Okay, after 3 trips here I'm now taking away a star. I still love the friendliness of the staff, convenience, and price. Annie remembers me every time, even though I only stop in every 4-6 months. My past two cuts were not as great as the first, but the last time I dropped by, Annie decided to shake things up a little bit by leaving a little extra length in the back. I told her I'd like it shorter, so she took a little off, but still left it longer than my usual style. I didn't really like it, but I figured that she's had good intuition before, so maybe after a day or two I'd see that it was an improvement over my old cut.
Well, a month passed, and one day I looked in the mirror and realized I'd been unknowingly rocking an asian rockstar mini-mullet. Annie, why? Why, why, why? No, no, no!
I still like this place, and one mullet isn't going to keep me from coming back.... but not until I've tried out a few other places first.

Ahhhh! That's all all I could think while getting my hair done. Based on the reviews here, I chose… Read more »
The people here are very friendly and know what they're doing. If you think communication might be an issue (i.e. if you're a pathetically mono-lingual white chick like me), it's a good idea to bring pictures of the cut you want. They also have books of haircuts you can refer to. Overall, it's a friendly, family kind of place where you can get a good haircut for not too much money.
It's maybe worth noting that I've done the whole fancy salon thing in the past, until I got tired of spending tons of money keeping my very short haircut short and feeling like the uber-cool salon stylist was judging me for my product-less, hair dryer-less lifestyle. I'm just as happy with the haircut I got here as I've ever been with cuts I paid twice as much for, and the atmosphere is much nicer.
Alright, I am giving it two stars cuz the haircut was good. This chick there cut my hair. It was cheap and the cut was decent (although my usual stylist said that she sort of damaged my hair -- the way she cut it). Anyway -- they also said they would give me a discount on highlights, partial. It was my birthday, I needed a pick me up.
Anyway, she highlighted MY ENTIRE HEAD!!! WTF! The highlights were the color of what I call "cheap honey/caramel" attempting to immitate that nice caramel hue of chicer salons, but it comes out very old metal rust-looking, not too terrible, but def not good! And um, SHE COVERED MY ENTIRE HEAD WITH THE HIGHLIGHTS! EVEN (drumroll) underneath the hair, yes, it was LAYERED, I could not escape these things!
Alright, I am taking away a star cuz I am now remembering the traumatic experience when I told her "I hate this, this is ugly" and she tried to convince me it was pretty.
Thaaaaaaaaaat's right, I looked like a cheap ho'. Awesome ... my birthday... yea.... Hello, law school, my name is "high school hairdo". Awesome.
I hate to be a negative Nelly here, but I've been to this place twice and still haven't been pleased with my cut. Each time, they've really botched my bangs. I got my bangs cut there 3 weeks ago, they still won't lay flat - even with a hair iron!
Keep in mind, I have had bangs for months, and they've always laid flat.
Again, I hate to bring their rating down - it's a really nice group of people who work here! But, yeah, my bangs are awful.
I usually go all out for haircuts, but was feeling a bit disillusioned with my previous stylist and came here twice for simple cheap trims while I researched a new salon.
My first haircut (with a young man) was exactly what it should have been - cheap, good, and the man who cut my hair was attentive and very sweet.
My second - with a woman - was dreadful. I brought about 3 different pictures showing different angles of the same cut (I knew the language thing might be a bit of a problem, so I wanted to be clear). The cut was pretty much an inch or 2 off my existing haircut (a bob). I said, and signaled "One length" and she nodded like I was patronizing her. Then, as she was finishing the cut (it looked fine) she very deliberately and without hesitating enough for me to stop her, cut a straight, horizontal line from my left ear to halfway to the back of my head. Not sure how to explain this, but it was as if she had given me a double bob (like the shape of stairs going down the side of my head)... on only ONE side. I started crying immediately and she regarded me with disgust, even "telling on me" to the owner, who was shocked and sympathetic. He asked if I wanted the cut evened out, which I guessed I did. I told him I expected him to fix my hair for free once it grew out in a few months (I decided to cut my losses and never go back) and left. I think I was in such shock I still paid for the haircut, and a (small) tip, which I instantly regretted!
Love love love this place! I went for the first time today to get my hair cut, because of all the great reviews Beautiful Cuts had on yelp. They gave me two books of hair styles to look at and then made some modifications to the cut I had picked based on the shape of my face.
John (which I'm sure isn't his real name) cut my hair and did a great job maintaining the length that I desired. I don't think that my hair has ever looked this good! Plus, after an awesome shampoo that included a divine scalp massage, the haircut, and blowdry/styling everything only came out to 35 dollars. Shazamm!
I was inspired to finally set up a Yelp account based on my final experience with Beautiful Cuts today. It's my final visit only because I'm moving out of state soon and I had to get in one last quality haircut before leaving town.
The folks who run the shop are extremely friendly and always have been since I started going there back in 1999. The first time I went was based on close proximity and low price. My expectations were low considering the price of the haircut, but I got a great (and fast) cut in exactly the style I asked for. I think it's funny that someone else here mentioned that they can barely understand a word they say. It's totally true, but it's also part of the adventure. The language barrier is there, but I always manage to cut through it and get some good laughs in with the staff.
My last appointment with them was 5 minutes before closing and though I felt guilty for showing up so late and unannounced, they greeted me warmly and gave me a friendly sendoff. This is the kind of hidden gem I'm very sad to be leaving behind in Allston.
When I called for an appointment, they were able to fit me in that day. They were very professional. She cut my hair EXACTLY how I wanted. My husband went in 2 days later for a hair cut. He didn't have an appointment- he just walked in. They were able to fit him in very quickly. Prices were very reasonable. Very satisfied. Will go back.
I can barely understand a word they say but the haircuts are great and the price is great. They really take care to make sure I get a good haircut and remember what I want. Its the only place I go these days.
Okay, so I never get a haircut in boston, just because i always get it when i'm at home...but i thought i would try it out because was in a desperate need of one...and i found it through yelp..i went started out well...i had a picture of what i wanted...i showed it to her...did not come out the way it looked on picture! that is all i have to say..i'm kind of upset about it...i'm mean its not horrible but i just don't really like it...and i think they overcharged me because it says "unisex haircut (just cut) for $12.00" and i had to pay 30 for it...does that seem odd to anyone? but then again it was just me, i went with friends and they got good haircuts...btw it took 3 hours for 3 ppl...that seems a bit too long...for just hair cuts
