I made the mistake of getting the most basic brunch special (eggs sunny side up, mushrooms, andouille sausage and loootssss of cheese). Everything was cooked perfectly, especially the mushrooms -- they had just the right texture. Given the simplicity, I suppose I was thrown off by the final price ($100 for four people). Fortunately, for my anger-prone self, the meal was a treat.
If you're into creepily watching people while stuffing yourself with fine food, then you must eat outside here. Bella Vista's full o' beautiful people.
I don't eat crepes on a regular basis, but I consider myself a crepe snob. I was looking forward to sampling what Philadelphia has to offer and while they were good, they didn't blow my mind.
I went for brunch this past Saturday and, like Veronique L. below, I ordered the salmon, artichoke heart, and bernaise sauce brunch special. I love salmon, am trying to adopt a new affinity for artichoke hearts, and was willing to give the bernaise a shot. I think I used too much bernaise sauce, but I didn't even use that much. It was delicious, but very, VERY rich, and there was an overload on artichoke hearts inside the crepe. My boyfriend's mom said her more basic breakfast crepe was better than anything she usually has for breakfast, so maybe it was the bernaise.
Perhaps I should have tried a foolproof sweet crepe. Who can deny nutella, bananas, and ice cream? But I took a chance. As an international crepe snob, these rated just average.
The cappuccino was delicious, what salmon was in the crepe was okay (could have been Lox-ier, but that's neither here nor there), and the restaurant is nice inside. Bonus points for the velvet entry curtains. Okay, three-stars.
Very adorable looking brunch joint from the outside, however the decor lacked a little on the inside. The waiters and waitresses were also dressed as french servers, which put a nice little flair to the restaurant. Yet the restaurant felt like it was trying too hard to be a cute french cafe.
I had the Smoked Salmon and Artichoke Crepe which was pretty good. Can't say smoked salmon and artichokes are the best of combinations, but I certainly enjoyed it. Perhaps next time I'll try a savory crepe.
Prices were a bit steep for my typical brunch. The crepe alone was $17, which would be acceptable for New York, but Philly? And this crepe was on the more reasonable side of the menu...
I like the vibe of this place, especially during the summer when you get a nice seat outside on warm, sunny morning. Their Grilled Steak Brochette is very good (robust beefy flavor). But this is a crepe place, so let's get to their crepes. I'm neither a crepe expert by any means, nor would I qualify by eating a lot of crepes in regular basis. But IMHO, their crepes are enjoyable. After trying a variety of different savory ones (including the coq au vin), I like their Egg, Swiss Cheese & Ham best. I actually would advise you NOT to get their coq au vin or any of their fancier ones, as I found that they weren't worth it. Their sweet crepes are generally good, too.
I've so far gotten the Smoked Salmon, Artichoke Hearts & Bernaise Sauce with Poached Eggs savory crepe (eh, I don't think the artichoke hearts worked, but maybe it's a matter of preference), the Pears, Chocolate, Creme Anglaise dessert crepe (the Creme Anglaise was excellent), the Ratatouille savory crepe (actually, this was surprisingly good. Better than the smoked salmon crepe, I think), a shrimp savory crepe (I liked the seafood sauce), and a bunch of others.
I've concluded that the crepe fillings themselves may not be stellar, but it is the crepes themselves that are out of this world. Seriously. I don't even like crepes, but I was blown away.
So if you want a really good dessert, just get the lemon and sugar dessert crepe, and you'll see what I mean.
Minus a star for the service/crowding (I feel like it's often so crowded that the waitresses can't even really see you).
My bf and I LOVE this place. We went for Valentine's Day one year, and it was a wonderful and romantic experience. We went in the middle of a snowstorm, and they had the fireplace lit, which made our dinner a very cozy experience indeed. Also, the restaurant was dimly lit and playing soft lounge music.
...and the food!!!! It was DELICIOUS! We started with crabcakes w/ remolaude sauce as our appetizer. Unfortunately, these are no longer on the menu. Too bad, because they were FANTASTIC!!!! We also had a "la salade maison".
Next,I had the creamed spinach, chicken, tomato and swiss crepe and he had the coq au vin. We were both happy with our choices, and each other's as well!! LOL
For dessert we had a banana, caramel, white chocolate sweet crepe with vanilla icecream.
I give this place 5 stars, but it's definitely overpriced!!! Order salad and an appetizer, or you will leave here hungry.
#1 reason i liked it: they have buckwheat crepes! so if you're gluten-free, this is a good place to get a tasty crepe. Busy, fun atmosphere. the bananas in my crepe weren't that fresh and tasted a little funny, but i was of course trying everyone else's and they were super de-lish. i wanna go back soon. great for a couple or a group of people!
Just your average, hole-in-the-wall place that sells duck confit, locally-obtained goat cheese and gourmet andouille sausage crepes.
I honestly don't see what the big deal is as it seems like there's one of these on every corner here in Philadelphia.
Finally got around to checking out Beau Monde - what a treat! Had brunch and split a savory and a sweet. For the savory we had a roast chicken, spinach, tomato and Swiss cheese - very tasty. For dessert we had an apple almond and brown sugar crepe with vanilla. Amazing! Our waitress was nice too - very attentive without being intrusive. We also sat outside and had the nice neighborhoody experience of friends happening to walk by and stop to chat for a while. We mutually sang the praises of Beau Monde and then learned of another half dozen places to add to our list to check out. Very Philly!
This place really grows on me, I love the wait staff and man some of those crepes are just spectacular, and I love their big sidewalk patio and I love looking across the street to the other French place that looks exactly the same that I've never been to and have no desire to go to and wondering why that is.

Nice outdoor seating, good food, fantastic bloody mary.
This place is pretty good but not great for the price. I had the shrimp crepe with spinach and seafood sauce and my wife had some sort of sausage and egg crepe. it was good, and although I am the first to admit that my palatte is not the most refined, I honestly didnt think it was that much better than the crepes I get from the crepewalk truck near the penn campus. sure, the presentation and ingredients were better, but the taste not so much. For desert we split a nutella crepe, which was delicious, but not mind blowing. I also had a guiness and she had a mixed drink and a glass of port. The total bill was 72 and some change, which isnt astronomical by any means, but like I said, expensive for what I thought was mediocre crepes. Definately good for a date as the place was quiet.
Oh yeah, the bathroom was clean and smelled good.
My friend had the beet and goat cheese salad and I had envy of a beet and goat cheese salad.
Crepes are good, not as good as France or Japan you fools who think they are. Actually Profi's in Reading Terminal is better and cheaper. Here you are paying for South Street and ambiance.
Probably will not return unless someone reallllly wanted to go
Heavens Almighty!!!!
Pure Bliss!!!
Have no idea what else I cud add.... Both the savory and sweet crepes were deliciousssss. The waiter was friendly and stopped by just the right number of times to c if we were doing ok. Cute outdoor tables..... dunno what more I cud ask for.
Btw, the wife and I had a huge fight on our way there. And this place was my pick so it HAD to b right. Let it suffice to say that by the time we walked out....her head was on my shoulder and her hands were locked in mine..... Ok, that may b a li'l exaggeration....but u get the point!
Great brunch spot. Everyone said the crepes were delicious but filling. Mom had packed a bag of green peas for me, so I'll have to check out the crepes later. Grandpa had the ragatoullie, and Granny Li the shrimp. Dad some onion soup and Mom went for ham & cheese. All except Dad waddled it off with a river walk. Prices - expect about $20 per head + drinks to exit.
Wow i came here by total accident today. So glad because twas on my bookmarked places that I wanted to visit. I came from CC sips so I was stuffed on lil'appetizers from here and there.
I just got the sweet crepe- hazelnut ice cream, nutella and banana. YUM.
With a glass of dessert wine.
Not bad.
I don't see myself eating the meal crepe anything soon..like crepe with meat inside. I don't know, I'm just not there yet but soon come.
But I like the setting. Weather was nice so I was able to sit outside.
If I were to go again, I think i would share the dessert crepe.
I avoided Beau Monde for the first few years I lived in Philly because I thought $15 was an insane price for a crepe. I was picturing street crepes, the kind you get in parks with nutella and banana and eat among les pigeons. However, what Beau Monde serves is much more refined and the portions are very generous.
The restaurant itself is lovely, there is a lot of beautiful hardwood. It a bit quaint, so of course I loved that. I will say the service can be a bit slow, especially during the brunch rush. However, their amazing bloody marys, which come with a bit of roughage, will help temporarily ease your hunger pangs.
So the best crepe I've had is the poached eggs, bacon, mushrooms and blue cheese. It is so incredibly rich and indulgent. The cheese is pretty sharp, but all the other elements manage to mellow its flavor. Also, Chad had an insanely good soup here once, a spicy mushroom broth with shrimp. I've only managed one bite from a sweet crepe, but I know I'll be back for more.
Beau Monde would be a nice place for a date if you're at the point where you can split food and eat messy things in front of one another. I think the ideal meal would be to split one savory and one sweet crepe as a couple, which is my plan from now on.
Went with my dad and roommate after a Phillies game, which now that I think of it is kind of funny - all-american ballgame, followed up by fine french dining. Regardless, excellent selection of both dinner and dessert crepes. I'd recommend getting a few dinner crepes to split, but saving your appetite to pig out on the dessert crepes, which were outrageous.
+ very good crepes
+ good not spectacular service
- long waits at brunchs
- expensive
Have you ever been on a date that was so magical that when you think back on it, it feels like a hallucinatory dream? Me either until three weeks ago with many props, kisses, and thanks to Beau Monde. I straight up felt like Cinderella. I've never felt like Cinderella before. Maybe Sleeping Beauty but never Cinderella.
Beau Monde's ambiance is lovely. The crepes were orgasmic, whichever bottle of wine we got was stellar, and our seat outside was absolutely the best. The waitress was awesome and didn't mind us yacking off her ears. Seriously, we were basically offering her wine and telling her to sit down with us but she declined.
This off-the-cuff little date turned out to be an epic date. If you wanna wow the pants off of a girl (it was a first date and my pants weren't literally wow'd off that night), then take notes. Afterward we went upstairs to L'Etage for another drink (no cabaret but oh well), browsed around the quirky bookstore down the street, and went dancing to soul music all night at Barbary.
Sold!
This one has a lot of reviews, so I'll keep it short. I got the Greek crepe and my friend got to coq au vin. This is some of the best restaurant food I've ever had. It was a little pricy for me, though.
The desert crepes are amazing too. You can't go wrong here. Right off the South St. district too.
Note: They only take reservations for larger groups.
HOLY CREPE!
we created our savory crepe:
Grilled chicken, olives & goat cheese. AHHH!!! I can't even describe how rich and satisfying this combo was. The actual crepe's are made from buckwheat which is much better than the normal not as healthy crepe.
Our sweet crepe was:
Bananas, Nutella & hazelnut ice cream. again--- AHHHH!
Not only were the crepe's incredibly delicious, the waitress and/or chef cut the crepe in half and served a beautiful presentation split onto 2 plates since my husband and i were sharing each one. The portions are HUGE and it is worth the price.
Go. Seriously. You will leave absolutely satisfied.
This is one of my favorite places to take my wife for dinner. The ambiance is so great (they have a big, stone fireplace that creates a pretty rustic feel) and the staff is pleasant. In the warmer months, we like to eat outside.
We really enjoy the cheese plate appetizer. It's served with a nice variety of cheeses, along with some fruit. Crepes comprise the majority of the menu. The menu is segmented into sweet and savory sections. I invariably order off of the savory section (I like their andouille sausage) and the wife orders from the sweet section (she loves that it's like eating dessert for dinner - i.e. dessert followed by more dessert).
They have a decent beer selection, too. I think the last time I was there I got a Chimay Blue.
I really recommend checking out Beau Monde.
Parlez-vous francais?
Who cares! You don't have to when all you want to do is stuff your face with crepes at this fabulous, French-themed brunch utopia!
My husband and I went to brunch on Easter Sunday with a few friends at Beau Monde for the very first time. Normally, we are accustomed to dropping no more than $25 on Sunday brunch, a weekly tradition/addiction. Yes, Beau Monde is pricey, but for the love of jeebus treat yourself to somethin' special! You deserve it.
I ordered the ratatouille crepe and added goat cheese to it. The ratatouille crepe is a massive square of a crepe stuffed with grilled veggies. It was a $15 crepe, but it was hands down the best brunch meal I've had in a really long time. The staff is also fast and accommodating. For as busy as it was on Easter Sunday, they were certainly on their toes and kept my mug full of coffee, just the way I like it, and the rest of our table fat n' happy. The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous and it would be a perfect place for a romantic dinner, a first date, or as in our case, a brunch with good friends. Beau Monde is my favorite new discovery of 2009.
Finally: French onion soup that is actually FRENCH. This place was so refreshing following my crappy travel food: crepes that were buckwheat-goodness, cider that didn't taste like a sugar cube, a server who knew how to actually say "crêpe" and "demi glas"... It was fantastic.
The setting was warm with a fireplace greeting you when walking in. It was kinda porn-like with the servers dressed as French maids but I digress... The food was excellent. Their salads were fresh and seasonal (pear salad and a citrus salad with ricotta). I had their salsa verde crepe with chicken and swiss -- it was fantastic. Their salsa was not Mexican in any sense of the term; it was more of a light creme sauce with fresh herbs and anchovy paste. Pretty much yummy for my tummy.
To top it all off, you can walk down to the chocolate bar down the street and have amazing dessert. Y'all gotta check it out. Good times.
Mmmmm!! Can't go wrong w/the crepes here. I had the traditional ham & egg crepe and the banana w/nutella chocolate crepe. Nothing really stood out here, but crepes are good in general and what I had were solid good crepes like the ones I had in France back then.
Shared the following with a friend: Ham egg ceddar savory crepe and Apple almond brown sugar vanilla ice cream sweet crepe. A perfect amount for two. And an amazingly different option to the typical brunch. I highly recommend this spot.
let me premise this review by telling you that my mom eats like a bird. she eats like, a very small, very fragile, not-hungry bird with dainty dinner table mannerisms--the kinduv eating habits that are practiced by british royalty and people who clearly are not hungry for a good meal.
my mom absolutely inhaled her wild mushroom crepe. i've seen her do this only a few times in the 27 years i've known her and each time, i'm not sure who's more pleasantly surprised by her newfound appetite. the crepe was light and crisp, the filling full of complex mushroomy goodness, and the sauce was rich yet subtly so.
i had the pate plate, which provided me with an entirely unnecessary and utterly ridiculous amount of pate (for my arteries). delicious, tho. and should you decide to pursue death by pate, you have met your match.
One of my neighboirhood favorites! You can't really go wrong here, always consistent and delicious. Some of my favorite savory crepes are the Coq au Vin, Beef Bourguignon, Mushroom and Cheese & of course the sweet crepes too! I usually get one of each, but I am lucky I always go wioth someone that shares everything with me. Favorite sweet crepes (I haven't tried them all yet..), Banana, Nutella & Hazelnut Ice Cream & Pears, Chestnut Cream & Chocolate. I also highly recommend the Seared Tuna salad, chock full of tuna, scallops, & shrimp, mmm.
Gorgeous decor, very romantic and relaxing. They always have fresh flowers int eh bathroom too. If you are there later in the night, check out the lounge upstairs, L'etage! There is something interesting going on up there just about all of the time, and if there isn't something going on the atmosphere and beer selection are enough of a reason to visit.
Hey if you're feeling hip and want to eat an entree that most people would consider piffle, then Beau Monde is the joint for you! Hey, history has shown that you can take something like a bagel or a croissant and fill it up and serve it as a big to-do and make lots of money on it, so why not do it with crepes? Why not, indeed!
The only thing I don't get is why they have to do it like it's some big-ass deal. Great, it's a crepe that I can get in regular or wheat and then fill it up with various goos, How is this any different from a pizza? My fave pizza joints don't cost much at all, so why am I dishing out the dollars for a glorified pastry with beef wellington in it? Why, indeed!
Oh, it's fine. However, dollface ordered one with scallops in it and a couple of them were orange. When she asked the waiter about this, wondering if anything was wrong with them, he told her that they had had many questions about that very thing that day and would ask what the reason was as he had apparently forgotten it. Upon his return, he informed us that the chefs told him that some of the scallops had gotten "more oxygen" than others. OK. Whatever. I ate the two freak-ass orange scallops as she was afraid to and they were fine.
After din-din, we had a cherry crepe that was very, very good. In fact, I could quite understand going to this place and just getting dessert crepes. They could still tone down the b.s., though. It's not half as amazing as the staff would have you believe.
Better than Paris?! Oui, oui! Loved the buckwheat (gives you false hopes that it's actually healthy), crispy, yet chewy texture of the crepe, not like other places with flimsy thin, pancake-like batter. I shared the chicken sasla verde and it was just soooo....perfect. There was not an overwhelming galore of cheesy, oily mess, it was just the right combo of the chicken and sauce.
If you go here, dessert crepe is a must, hence sharing, so that you don't OD on the main entree and miss out on the goodness experience of dessert. Try the apple, roasted almond, caramel w/vanilla icecream (whip cream AND brown sugar on the side its already sweet enough with the other toppings). It's like a burst of heavenly goodness in yo mouth!
Sharing the entree and dessert for people with monstrous appetite is do-able. I was stuffed and happy.
Great crepes, bad experience. Hoity-toityness abounds without warrant. Loosen up, Beau Monde - you're an upscale IHOP.
Learn from the Greek myth of Narcissus: It's fine to be beautiful, just not at the cost of great self-importance.
I came here for lunch just because it had outdoor seating and I could keep an eye on my bike. I will go back for dinner because I really enjoyed the food and service. There are two types of crepes - savory and sweet. The savory crepes are made of buckwheat and the sweet ones are made of wheat. I had one of each at lunch even though I was full after my first (savory) crepe and had a long ride ahead of me. Beau Monde offers a savory and sweet crepe in every price range, from reasonable (6 bucks) to ridiculous (20 bucks). The crepes come out square, which was interesting, and scrumptious. What arrives on the plate from the waiter looks underwhelming, but one bite opens up the delight on the inside. The only downside is how hard the crepes are to share because they're so floppy and creamy. And, speaking of creamy, Beau Monde uses real Chantilly creme on their sweets. Just dreamy!
I'm rather partial to the crepes of France & Germany myself, but since a flight across the Atlantic is out of the question, Beau Monde will have to suffice. I was unimpressed with the price and quality of the savory crepes that I tried on previous visits, but recently I headed there simply for the cheaper dessert crepes which satisfy the soul and will keep me coming back. I had the brown sugar/butter crepe for like $3. Yum!
Yeah, I gotta go all gushy about this place. The decor is noveau-y; dark patterns and tin, very warm and comfortable. The servers were smart and dressed fashionably, and the food fantastic. I got the Andouille Sausage, Ratatouille & Caramelized Tomato Sauce, $16.25, and was more than satisfied.
I don't usually find myself ordering food based on Disney films, but ever since I saw the Rat Chef and his Stupid Human, I wanted to try Ratatouille. It was tangy and heart-warming. This is a great date place, even though the lady friend and I sat next to some sort of sweet 16 party for 12 text-messaging brace faces.
This place is magical.
Last Sunday i came here twice, firstly for a post brunch happy hour with a coworker and secondly for a late supper avec mon petit ami.
My little post brunch happy hour was a really nice way to calm down from a hectic shift. (je suis une serveuse) I started with a delicious gin bloody mary crafted by a wonderfully chill Libby at the bar. After sipping on that spicy concoction i moved onto a kir royale and to finish my own personal happy hour off with a snifter of Grand Marnier to accompany my flambeed Gran Marnier crepe with house whipped cream. Did i mention it was flambeed at the bar? Pretty cool for a pyro like me, my only wish is that Libby would have let me do it :)
My second trip was with the bf after the sun dipped below the horizon. He was in somewhat of a crabby mood and i thought I'd take him for some crepes. He'd never been inside nor had a crepe in his life. Whaat? He really liked the decor; I'm also a fan but as a somewhat seasoned Beau- Monder seeing it through the eyes of a Beau Monde virgin is always nice. From the velvet curtains when you first walk in to the beautiful gold leaf wall panels to the warm, crackly fire this place is sexy at night. Yet comfy. like your favorite sleepwear. and that's a total compliment.
Anyway, our server was very helpful, didn't mind doing plate shares for the salad we ordered (with delicious grilled pear and decadent bleu fromage!) or for our crepe (which was still beautifully plated and practically garnished).
I really don't know how to conclude this review other than a contented sigh at the memory of last Sunday.
Ahhhhhhh...
This is THE place I recommend when asked to name a place for dinner in Philadelphia.
It has something for everyone. It's reasonably priced. It's delicious.
Great place for a date too. nothing but positive things to say
Yes! Another great brunch place! :)
Came here twice already on a weekend and it was delicious both times. Of course, I got crepes both times and thank goodness I came with three other people because we were able to sample a bit of everyone's food. Everything was delicious!
The sweet crepes were typical of what crepes normally about so I don't quite think it's worth the price. However, they are delicious (see pics)! Their hazelnut ice cream is YUM! The only problem I have with them is that they can become overly sweet after a few bites because it sure is a lot of sugar. I'd definitely split with someone if you could and get one sweet crepe and one salty one.
As for salty crepes, the two I got to try were delicious! The ingredients were fresh and everything tasted very well balanced. On the weekends, they have a special brunch menu of crepes you can savor. Definitely try the Scrambled Eggs with Roasted Poblano Peppers, Tomatoes, Swiss Cheese,Avocado Corn Salsa & Caramelized Tomato Sauce. The Creamed Spinach, Grilled Chicken, Tomatoes & Swiss (see pic) is one of the "House Recommended Savories" and I thought this was really yummy also (I replaced the creamed spinach with sauteed).
Either way, definitely check this place out. There is also plenty of seating inside so it won't be too hard to get a seat (unlike Sabrina's and Morning Glory). It is also very cutely decorated and they also have patio seating.
The downside of this place: it's a bit pricey and service can be a bit slow on the weekend if there are a lot of patrons.
Beau Monde reminds me of one of my favorite brunch places in Brooklyn called the Robeling Tea Room. The atmosphere is classy but chill at the same time, the decor is a shabby chic type thing that's just really pleasant. And they have cute little topiaries on all the tables. The waitstaff is cute and we had great service for saturday brunch.
My boyfriend and I split a savory crepe and a sweet crepe, a strategy that I highly recommend. For the savory crepe we got one of the specials on the Brunch menu, the one with scrambled eggs, roasted poblano peppers, awesome guac, etc. When we said that we were spliting they presplit the crepe and gave both of us huge scoops of guac- AWESOME. And half was definitely enough to fill me up. We had the fresh berry crepe for a sweet finisher, and it was delicious. Definitely ranks up there in terms of the quality of the crepes themselves, they were really good texture, perfect i'd say!
All this being said, the prices are on the higher end, but I think it's worth the splurge for the excellent atmosphere and tasty crepes!
The crepes were good, but the menu was confusing. You might as well just skip most of it (the whole main and additional ingredients section) and look down at the bottom for their recommendations. We had:
Andouille Sausage, Ratatouille & Caramelized Tomato Sauce $16.25
Grilled Chicken Breast, Grilled Vegetables & Salsa Verde $13.75
A custom combo.
The custom one came out to be more than my friend expected. But unless you click away at the calculator, you wouldn't know.
I would also suggest that crepes should not be this large and cost this much. I'd much prefer smaller ones that make you go: gee, I want another and another. I guess this way is lower on the carb count, but it's buckwheat, and I like to taste a lot of different flavors.
They're also super quick and easy to make at home :)
Beau Monde is perfection. I've had crepes at many different establishments but none compare to the luxurious buckwheat crepe filled with mushroom sauce, mushrooms, and sharp cheddar that the Gods bestow upon you when you eat at Beau Monde. Sometimes I add olives or almonds to my staple crepe so I don't feel as bad for ordering the same thing over and over again. It's been years and I'm still not sick of that crepe.
The dessert crepes are absolutely divine as well. And I suggest brunch over dinner so you can experience the bliss that is cooked into the breakfast potatoes.
It also helps the the waitstaff is generally amazingly hot, dressed cute and usually make me want to head over to MAC and get some new eyeshadow.
