These pastries are the life's little guilty pleasures!

I instantly fell in love with the rich, but delicate cream puffs!  They are yummy!  Compared to a lot of the other cream puffs, which tend to be dry, too sweet or contains not enough of the fillings. These are perfect! I 've tried a lot of cream puffs all over, even the gourmet French styled ones and this cream puffs is it for me.  My favorite is the green tea flavor.  It's also nice to see the worker fill the cream instantly in front of you.  Which shows the freshness. With a warm hazelnut latte and a bite of these cream puffs;  Your worries might go away for a minute.  They also make a great  "visiting gift" if you don't want to attend your friends or family's house empty handed.  I just wished they were a little cheaper, but it's not too bad.   Anyways, I love these cream puffs!  I hope you enjoy these as much as me.

First off, the service here was atrocious.  The boyfriend and I stood there waiting for about 5 minutes before we were helped.  We were the only ones there.  What was the lady doing that made her so busy?  She was hiding UNDER the counter talking on the phone and trying to avoid looking at us.  REALLY?!?!  That should have been our sign that this place was no good, but we'd heard so many good things about it and so we had to try it.  At $2+ a cream puff these babies better be good, right?

BOO!  We ordered the vanilla cream puff.  The actual puff was a bit crispy, like it was overbaked.  I'm not sure if this is normal, but that's how it was for us.  The vanilla cream wasn't sweet enough either.  I love cream puffs, I've grown up in a family that constantly makes cream puffs for dessert and I've learned to master it.  I really thought after hearing the hype about this place that it would supplement my cream puff cravings and I wouldn't have to make a whole batch of cream puffs every time and then be "forced" to consume like 2 dozen cream puffs alone and then bloat up.  Nope, just call me the goodyear blimp because I will NOT be coming here again.  If anyone needs a good cream puff recipe, contact me, I'll tell you a quick and easy way to make them that will be more worthwhile than going here.  Plus, you serve yourself so you don't have to wait for people talking under counters.

Yummy yum yum yum... hello giant hollow tender creme puff with dense green tea filling... you are so sweet and delicious...

Papa Beard's makes your filled puff right when you order. They seem teeny- but are oh so very filling. Good flavor and quality!

FYI's~
*It is a chain- another local location is the Papa Beard's at H Mart in Lynnwood- Alderwood Mall area
*The flavors are made by adding powder to the plain filling

fanTAStic!!

I would give a vanilla Beard Papa 5 stars, except there's just too much filling for me....I'd like it to be more equal filling and pastry.

Not too sweet. Light. Delicious.

Yummy cream puffs!!! I'm only giving it 4 stars because of the taste. I would go lower because of the price but that wouldn't be fair. Anyways, it's too pricey if you only order one so it's better to order more.

I usually get their original flavor but this time I tried the chocolate filling and it was great.

However, I still think my grandma's homemade recipe is still the best I've had so far. The filling tastes perfect!

I'm a recent cream-puff convert. I like 'em and I like Beard Papa's but it's just a wee-bit pricey is what I think. Better than those frozen one's from Costco (in size and flavor) but still just a touch pricey considering you get one at a time.

Still I say go there and try it out. They make them fresh and their vanilla flavored custard is actually really, really good. I'm not a fan of the green-tea flavor but I've been told it's not bad. With a dash of powdered sugar on top it's presentation is very nice. Apparently now they make coffee drinks too.

Stop in, try it out. Maybe I'm still too much of a cream-puff noob to know better and you'll be one of those people I see walking out with a box or four because "it's absolutely The Best!"--but I'll stick with my A-OK answer and call it good.

Over-hyped.

I suppose the concept is unique. Giant sized cream puffs with different flavors of creams inside. I'd say you should definitely if you're a curious person like me. Especially when the smell of bakery is oh-so-luring.

It was exciting to imagine the deliciousness of consuming a giant cream puff (since I always crave more after eating the little.. err regular sized ones at Than Brothers), but after a few bites it quickly became too sweet and creamy for me to enjoy... all of the 3 flavors i tried (regular, chocolate, and pumpkin) ended up this way, I didn't crave for more like I was hoping for...

Recommend to share between 2 people, but then I don't see the difference to eating more of the smaller ones..

If these cream puffs were a person, I'd married them. The cream is so sweet and the crust is really good too. My favorite is the chocolate cream filling with chocolate dusted sugar on top. What can I say? I love chocolate.

Buy these in half dozens or dozens, they'll fill you craving for the rest of the day. They cost less this way. Overall, they're pretty expensive. Make sure to get lots of napkins! I also gets some filling on my hand and cry if it falls onto the ground. Got to have my cream puffs.

I guess I don't really understand what the whole rave is about beard papa. It was introduced to me as the best cream puff that ever existed...
Well to me... Beard Papa was a cream puff that was given in any Tan Brother's Pho house except that it was bigger... creamier... with more flavors... I must actually be hungry now b/c thinking about it makes me drool... So I just upped my stars from 2 to 3. The flavors they offered at the time was chocolate, original, and green tea.
As for this place all cream puffs are made  fresh. If you want a certain one.. you ask for it and then the server takes the puff and fills it with the cream you want right there then sprinkles the power sugar. AND THEn BOOM gives it to you and you got a handy treat or breakfast how ever you want to consume it. :)   So I i recommend it to everybody??? well not really... people might consume it thinking it's good for you but as a health care provider... everything in moderation...
and secondly... just try it just to see what the rave is about.

These are originally found/made in Hawai'i but have now made its way to to Seattle!

Beard Papa's authentic, natural taste can easily be picked out if compared to other cream puffs.  The cream is smooth and fresh.  It tastes like pure cream, not like melted sugar or meringue (sorry to all your solid meringue lovers out there).

What I like most is that it's not too sweet!  It is the perfect amount of sugar and cream.  The coating is slightly chewy but not so much that it is very thick and overwhelming the cream inside; it has a little bit of flaky-ness to it.

Okay just a fun fact: I looked up Hawaii Beard Papa's on google and found the Hawaii Beard Papa's website.  Let me tell you, the greeting music is hilarious.

So I woke up and thought that it would be a fantastic day to go up to Seattle to have a few meals... and we hopped on a flight and 2 hours later, found ourselves at the Emerald City.

First stop? Uwajimaya... to pick up some super delish sashimi... and beard papas... Beard Papa's!? The last time I was here, we saw that they were under construction in the Uwajimaya food court. This time, they were pumping out these crunch puffy babies like a machine gun. Omg... Perfect. Breakfast!!!

I ended up munching on a green tea filled one while I got my lovely mom a chocolate one. (She's the only one nutty enough in my family to want to take random day trips throughout the country to eat, hence S was left at home to catch up on sleep and we had a lovely mommy daughter bonding day!)

Sadly, I still like the Beard Papa's in SF Centre better. The ones here were very thin and cracked and a pale pale yellow instead of a richer darker color. The thin walls cracked and filling oozed everywhere. Also there were random huge chunks of matcha powder in the filling - it needed a good whipping with a kitchenaid! I ended up grabbing a spoon and eating the filling out of my cream puff first before gulping down the rest.

Real Vanilla Bean Cream in Fresh Crispy Puffs.  What's not to love?!  Pricey... a little.  Just because I know what goes into them, but it seems you can't buy a pack of gum for 2.50 these days, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy just one.  Ever.  I'd also be proud to take them as dessert to any dinner party (and have) and paying around $25 for a dozen GIANT cream puffs is way better than having to cook myself!  That or just splitting one with your bestie as a treat... They are yummy, light, classic, and a welcome change to all the heavy desserts out there.  They DO NOT taste commercial in any way and even though I'm a cream puff purist, I look forward to branching out on the different filling flavors some day.

Never a true fan of sweets, I always avoided eating confections when possible.  There's just something about the glucose shock and sleepiness that I don't like that seems to get worse as I get older.  But I'll go ahead and forego that for Beard Papa's.  While this place is a chain, I've only seem them in Japanese towns and they always seem to maintain the same smooth, creamy consistency that's mysteriously still light enough not to make you feel like you ate a bucket of milk when you've polished one or two off.  Of course, it's not to say that you won't need to run a few miles after, but they're certainly well worth it once in a while.

Out of all the Beard Papa's I've tried, this was probably the worst....sad to say. OK, it's not THAT bad. But it's just that I've always had such pleasant experience at other Beard Papas that anything less than Beardacious I consider...3-star.

I had the Cookie Puff.. which is supposed to be crispier crust Cream Puff, but it was just burnt and actually kinda bitter with all the burntyness. I mean, it was probably carcinogenic and everything too..but whatever. The inside was still good. The Beard girls (cashiers/servers) were super sweet and cute too. So it was hard to hate. Ahh...they always get you that way. Thats a good business strategy. Just have the crappiest stuff, and have the foxiest ladies (or hunkiest gents for the ladies) serve it, you'd be like.. OH, what? this completely burnt cream puff? I was actually just noting the subtlety of the blackened flavor of the crust. Is that a new flavor? Blackened smoked? Real good, real good.. yea, bring me more, pleaz.

Freakin yummy.  I would gladly pay for these to use the parking lot here.

The first time we came here we were dumb and only bought enough for the adults.  I figured I would share with my little girl.  WRONG!  She usurped the whole puff and eagerly asked for more after devouring it like it was the best thing she had ever eaten.  Needless to say, I only tasted the pudding cleaning her up.

When I finally bit into my own personal chocolate glazed cream puff, I fell in love.  Crispy, not overly sugary and messy.  Perfect to me.  I ate mine slowly and savored every bite, while the boy gorged his happily down and smiled like a 12 year old.

Yeah, we like them.  A lot.

Man, I've never had such awesome cream puffs before....

Before I took a bite, I was just expecting a gumball amount of cream but when I took my first bite of this awesome treat, my mouth was full of sweet (but not to sweet) custard... yum!  I had an original and one with chocolate on it.  So tasty butttttt a little too pricey and I can't even imagine how fattening these are...

I have had Beard Papa's prior to this experience in Seattle, however, I was actually pleasant surprised at the Green Tea puffs that I had no desire to try back home.

This particular location is busy busy busy! It is inside the Uwajimaya market so caters to a lot of people trying to get these yummy cream puffs, but otherwise they're quite efficient and definitely a friendly location. After you order, take your number to  the pick up area and in a few minutes, prepare to enjoy your freshly made puffs!

I was SO excited when I walked into Uwajimaya awhile back and saw that BP was coming.  WOW!  I remember the first time I walked out of Shibuya Station (in Tokyo) and the aroma of something hit me so hard it made my eyes pop and my heart soar!  I followed the smell... actually, I followed the crowd in front of me who apparently was also following the smell... I stood in line not knowing what I was lining up for and just waited while I saw people walk by me with bags and bags filled with boxes of stuff.  NOBODY was eating anything right after their purchase. Nobody!   A good 30 mins later I got close enough to the front of the line... 'WHOA CREAM PUFFS!'

People were ordering them by the dozens!  No less then two dozens I should add.  It got to be my turn and I meekly gestured 'two' in my worldly international peace sign.  I handed one to the husband and OMG - YUUUUMMMM!

So why only two stars?!  Well, first of all, where's the fan that blows the aroma of the smell of the baking of the cream puffs?!  Yes, they had giant fans that did that, I kid you not!  Obviously, they work! :D  Then... where is the smell at all?!  Then, why cash only when it's sitting right in the food court with everyone else that takes cc?!?!  Then s-l-o-wwwwww service!  I almost fell asleep waiting!  There was only one person in front of me who got ONE cream puff.  Then... why is the filling so much more runny then the one I had in Japan?!?!  Tastes the same but the texture of the filling is just runny.  Then, old Asian women serving them just isn't as fun as young Japanese girls squealing at the top of their voices asking people to buy or eat or... ok I don't understand a lick of Japanese!

I got some for my friend who has never had BP before and she is now absolutely addicted!!  So maybe just ignore my review... I just wanted to put in my 2 cents and ummm... maybe it's not even worth that much :)

I first had these in Honolulu and I thought they were okay, a little pricey, but okay.  The store was super busy and the cream puffs were fresh.  The customer service was lacking.

The counter at Uwajimaya is also wanting in the CS department.  I got the matcha filling, which tasted chalky and gritty, like they didn't mix it in completely.  There was a bitter note to it as well.  The pastry itself was mediocre.  Definitely not worth the money.

Btw - cream puffs are VERY easy to make ... and you can make a whole batch for the cost of one at Beard Papa.

I've always liked cream puffs, never loved them like some people. I've never gone out of my way for one, either. If someone happened to offer me one, I'd eat it. Or like those small ones you get after eating pho at Than Bros. I finally tried one of these when someone brought a box to a potluck, and they were really good! Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but the cream puffs are pretty large, too much for me to finish, so I'd say one is plenty for two people to share.

Everyone loves sweets!  Oh my god, arent' they the best!?  RAWR GIVE ME MY CREAM PUFF!!!

Well.  No.  I ate one of these things today and I've got to say, it was good, but not wow-i-need-to-change-my-underroos good.

Right now they have only 1 flavor "the original" but you can get either powdered sugar on it or "matcha" powder on it.  Ooh green food, how unique and foreign.  bleh.  I'm sure the other flavors will come as soon as they figure out how to make the mysterious Japanese custurd fillings.

I just wasn't that impressed.
Also, if you're trying to impress that special someone, don't eat them.  There is no sexy way to eat these things, very much in the same group as Paseo sandwiches or corn on the cob.

And in good International District fashion, it's cash only.

I'm not a huge fan of cream puffs, but my family definitely is.  When I told them I was bringing home a dozen, I don't think they really knew what to expect...but boy were there raving reviews when they took a bite of a beard papa!

I especially like the fact that each cream puff is filled in front of you, and that you have a choice between green tea, cocoa and vanilla.  My favorite was the cocoa, because it had a similar taste to milo (not too sweet, and a bit mild).  The pastry is very light and flaky and does not taste stale the way that many cream puffs do.  I had always wanted to try Beard Papa in Hawai'i and never got the chance...so I'm super happy that they're here in the neighborhood :)

After one bite of these cream puffs- choux pastry filled with vanilla custard, I swear its like you've gone to cream puff heaven. I don't know about you guys but I surely did last night when I sank my teeth into one of these.

There was a sense of nostalgia to it-  I felt like my 5 year old self again- they totally remind me of the cream puffs my aunt and I used to make when I was little- except smaller. I wanted to buy just the cream puff minus the custard because as a kid I always ate the puff without the filling, and the gal behind the counter gave it to me for free- super sweet!

I'm a little freaked out because I think I may be the Beard Papa. Take a look at my profile and my pics with the hat on. The Beard Papa logo looks just like me except I don't smoke a pipe. I feel like Homer Simpson in that episode where his image winds up on a Japanese product.

If I am the spiritual twin of Papa it's all lost on me. I think the things are okay but nothing to get all worked up about. And if they'd asked what I thought I'd have come up with a less confusing menu and a better color scheme for the store.

I just went to Beard Papa at Uwajimaya for a vanilla custard cream puff and am happy to report it's improved since my first tastes back in October 2008.  For one thing, the price went down from $2.35 to $2.15.

My first impressions were of a pastry shell that was roughly a skosh smaller than a hockey puck. It was flaky but not as light and airy as I thought it would be. The custard insides had a bright vanilla flavor but lighter than I thought it would be.

This time around, I got a pastry that indeed was light and airy, crunchy on the inside and soft on the inside, and the custard was definitely more substantial with a richer, creamier texture and still had the same bright vanilla flavor. I give it three stars for a much improved puff.

My benchmark for custard-filled pastry puffs was set by Liliha Bakery in Honolulu . If you speak the local pidgin English there, the cocoa puffs made daily by the thousands are "broke da mout' ono kine grindz," i.e., intoxicatingly delicious custard puffs that leave you speechless and begging for more. Liliha Bakery is one of those places that people say nobody goes there anymore because the line to order your cocoa puffs - at least a dozen at a time - is way too long.

My bf has told me about Beard Papa's ever since he had them down in Cali. When we saw they were going to open one up in Uwaji's he was excited for me to try it! On friday after our company meeting in Seattle, we had lunch at Uwaji's and saw that Beard Papa's was open for business and we knew we had to have one! Well the special flavor of the day was matcha green tea and we each got one and for the price itself it was pretty expensive (about $3) for a airy puff filled with not too sweet custardy cream and dusted on top with matcha powder.

The puff was tasty but it seemed a little bit dry and too crunchy for my taste. I prefer the cream puffs from Costco in the frozen aisle.

The box they packed them in was pretty cute and watching the workers fill them with cream was fun to watch but definitely not on top of my list for a sweet treat. I rather have a Unicorn Crepe or frozen yogurt with extra mochi at Utopia.

** At the moment they only accept cash. **

I'll buy their puffs again when I'm at Uwaji's but they are nothing special.... I should be happy that I can at least get some cream puffs whenever I want.

This review is for thier Fondant au chocolat

A while ago, I tried their Fondant au chocolat.
In the picture, chocolate inside is nicely melted, and it looks very good.
However, what I got was a cold chunk of chocolate cake.
Of course the inside chocolate was very solid.
I should have microwave it, maybe? but for how long?
I think the price is too high for the small chocolate cake.

I'd better stick to their cream puff.

FINALLY you have arrived to Seattle.  About time. I've visited Beard Papa's in the past when I made my trip down to SF but it's been awhile.  My last visit to Norcal was good.  My sister had brang Beard Papa's back to my brother's house and I was in love with Beard Papa's all over again.

I just found out that Beard Papa's finally opened in Seattle.  Went there this past weekend to get some for my sissy's birthday.  Once I got a hold of one it was love all over again.  Nothing like a soft and fresh cream puff that melts in your mouth.

Right now they only have 1 flavor at Beard Papa's "The Original" which is still good.  Hopefully they'll be serving the chocolate soon.  Oh and make sure to bring cash as it's "cash only" at this time.

My foodie friend in NYC had added Beard Papa's to my list of must visit NYC  bakeries, so when I popped into the Uwajamaya food court for some Udon I  was surprised to find a new Beard Papa's location.  Fresh cream puffs for just over two bucks - they had a green tea flavored puff when I was there, along with the original vanilla.  And they do have the eclairs now, as well as the Fondant Au Chocolate - like a mini bundt cake filled in the center with a truffle-esque luscious  thick chocolate sauce.  If you like chocolate, this is worth the price ($2ish).
These cream puffs are fresh and do not even keep well overnight unless you chill them.  So eat them fresh  - buy a six pack, your friends will love you for it.

I first had these up in Richmond BC and it was yummy! So happy to see that there's one close to home.

Order:
Half dozen cream puffs, original filling

The puff was soft yet crispy and the filling was oh so yummmmmmmy!

Half dozen gone in no time!

$12 & change for a half dozen, not cheap but worth the $.

These are pretty good cream puffs.  I really like their filling - light and creamy good.  I've also had the eclair type and it was just the same cream puff dipped in chocolate.  It was a little messy, but still full of choco-goodness.

If I'm in Seattle and needed to get dessert, I'd stop here.

I know that there is a worldwide following for the cream puffs from Beard Papa but I am not one of them. Don't get me wrong, the vanilla custard has a nice creamy texture with good flavor but the puff itself is just sub par. It is hard, almost stale-like with little flavor. It isn't what I expect when I purchase a cream puff. Put a cup of that custard in a bowl and give me a spoon and I would be happy but wrap that cardboard like puff around the custard and I can go without.

Mmm.  Cream puffs.  While eating my way through the I.D. on Sunday I found myself at Uwaji's food court.  Holy hell, I didn't even know where to start, so I started with dessert.  For some reason I was surprised my 'eclair' (cream puff topped with chocolate) was so cold, but it was really good.  And not expensive.  Next time I am supposed to bring dessert to a potluck, I'm bringing a sixer of these.

i tried my first beard papa's cream puff at San Fransisco union square...
they had the longest line in the whole food court area, waited about 10 mins... i just knew why there was a long line!! it was sooooo GOOD!!!!!
it was the best cream puffs that i had so far!!

i was so happy when i saw BP at Uwajis, so i bought a dozen of them..
it was good but not as same as the Union square puffs...
but this was when they first opened...
i went there today again...hmmm i was satisfied.. i crave it right now..
i should have got some more....
but it's lil bit pricey tho :(
