Cream puffs here are really expensive!

I ordered two types - the plain vanilla one and one chocolate covered one. Honestly, I've tasted better. The cream was a bit too sweet for my own taste.

I give the two stars for cute atmosphere, though.

A friend brought Beard Papa's cream puffs to a dinner party last night. I've never really loved cream puffs, but this was a whole new experience! These are some amazing puffs of goodness. The pastry is so fresh... the cream.... so rich. I loved it. I would definitely make a special trip to get some more.

Yay! My second cream puff in a week! I'm going to end up looking like a roly poly soon!

I was in the area with my bf's family, and I had a choice between Yogurtland and Beard Papa's. I didn't have to think for a second! Cream puffs are soo tasty! I can never resist them!!!

I didn't want to try the flavor of the week which was caramel. My sister said that the caramel wasn't that good. So, I opt for the vanilla ($1.95). YUM YUM! I savored every moment.

My bf didn't like it as much as I did. Too bad.

I had an Interact meeting with my officers and it was our last banquet, so I decided to spoil them. I bought a 12 pack, and it was a whopping 22$! 22 mcchickens :( but it's okay, it was a crowd pleaser ;] It's really good, and worth trying at least once, i'm sure you'll get addicted though. I like the vanilla kind best, and limit your (stomach ) and wallet to just one! It keeps the savory taste.

This is my first visit to Beard Papa's.   Will definitely come back again.

Unfortunately, I had to work on Saturday, which is a bad thing with the missus.  So I got it in my head that I hit Beard Papa's after work you know to make up for not being there with the family.

Great place to get some bonus points for if you piss off the missus.  Almost as good as roses.

Would of given 5 stars if they had more flavor selection.  After reading so many great reviews of this place.  I knew I had to come here.

Lack of parking as well.

What did I bring home:
I saw the 1/2 dozen deal for $11.50.
So I asked for 2 original, 2 coffee and 1 chocolate, and 1 strawberry since I went to the Beard Papa's website prior and saw the flavors.

Service gal said, sorry we only have Original, chocolate and caramel.
I guess they only make certain flavors per day?  Anyways, I said 2 of each then.

So I got home and showed the missus and she said what's Beard Papa's.  I said you'll see and stuck it into the fridge to chill.

So after dinner we (me and missus) kids were busy playing the DS's.  I took it out and split 3 of the cream puffs in half.

She was impressed with the texture of the pastry and the texture of the filling.
All of the cream puffs had a very nice texture and very good taste to the cream.
I liked the Caramel the best followed by the original.

After eating the 1 1/2 creampuffs, we both agreed to not share this with the kids.

The chocolate, I didn't like as much.  For some reason I thought the Chocolate one would be coated with chocolate with the chocolate filling as well.

I saw some chocolate cream puffs in the display.  Perhaps another trip to try that one out.

+100 on the bonus points.....

I've never heard of this place until the girls in my office started shrieking with excitement in Chinese. I am the only non-Taiwanese (and non-Asian) there.

Apparently Japanese cream puffs is all the rage in Taiwan.  This place is famous and they found out there is a location in Cupertino.  One of the girls left to buy for the office.   She brought original and chocolate cream ones back.  Everyone else wanted original and since I've never tried either, and I love chocolate, I figured I'd give chocolate ones a try.

I am not a huge "desert filled with cream" person, but they are right - these are better than the European version.  The cream is very mousse-like and fluffy, not heavy, and not super-sweet.

I wanted another one but decided not to be a piggy. I think I'll check this place out in person soon and see what else they've got.

UPDATED: at this point I've tried strawberry, original vanilla, and chocolate.  All were excellent but the original is the best by a small margin.

Their cream puffs are soooo good... a little pricey, but pricey in the same sense that sushi is pricey.  You want it you pay for it.  And cream puffs are probably not very good for you but they're so yummy!

First time I tried Beard Papa's cream puff was several years ago in Tokyo while I did intern there.  I still remembered the day I stepped out of the station, there was a long line outside the petite kiosk.  Since then, whenever I go to Japan, I have to get some. Eating at least two at once' s my rule of having papa. :D (Later on, I found it's not only me having the rule, but  also some other Japanese friends.)

There are lots stores selling cream puffs. However, Papa's really has much richer and tasty flavor.  I love its original vanilla flavor the best.

I've heard people are raving about this place, but after having the vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate creampuffs I have to wonder why. The cream is definitely richer and tastier than your typical creampuff, closer to a custard than cream, but while they were tasty I didn't think they were great enough to warrant a special trip.

At first i thought this place would be like just any other random cream puff place, but i was wrong!

My friend took me here to buy 6 big cream puffs for $11.

The puffs are freshly made, the original vanilla filling is NOT SWEET, it's perfect! It is really indescribable, you just have to go pay $1.95 for a good sized puff.

The cream filling is put in fresh right when you order them, and it's still cold!!

This is a little bundle of joy, you just have to try it!

I never had an affinity for cream puffs. Those with whipped cream? Not my thing. The ice cream ones? The puffs always get soggy. After passing by few Beard Papa locations (Honolulu, SF Fidi, SF Westfield) and hearing all about its wonderful goodness, I finally had the courage to try one.

So after having fro-yo at Yogurtland couple stores down, I decided to continue my sweet spree and get one of these suckers. No one else wanted any, but I thought 'hey since I'm here already, might as well try 2'.

Two cream puffs: original & green tea.

Original: The custard is nice and cold, combined with the crunchy puff. AMAZING. That first bite was the best. I think because I had no expectation. All I can say is: YUMMY.

Green tea: The custard tasted like green tea, but it was a bit overpowering and just didn't go too well with the puff. I would just eat the custard by itself.

Mmmm....beard papa's. You have changed my feelings toward cream puffs.

Cream puffs, puffed while you wait with delicious custard cream.

theres also a flavor of the day. (allegedly different every day)

They have a special of 2 flavor of the day puffs and a coffee for about 5 bucks.

Thinking about it makes my mouth water.
Yums.

Had my first Beard Papa's in China and it was love at first bite. I don't care too much for the other flavors 'cause I get tired of them when I'm eating a ginormous cream puff! Vanilla will always hold my heart. Appreciate that they are filled on the spot to reduce sogginess. Best eaten ASAP.

My first Beard Papa's experience was in Hawaii and theirs were slightly better than this one here in Cupertino.

Some of the Cupertino's Beard Papa's cream puff flavor are a bit on the weak side, the green tea didn't quite taste like green tea and same for the strawberry flavor...it might just be my funny taste buds.  Chocolate was pretty good, I have yet to try their coffee puff which unforntately is only offered for 1 week at a time each month.

Because the Beard Papa's cream puff I had in Hawaii set the standard for me, I think the Cupertino store's puff itself can be made a little softer and sold fresher.

I tried the original cream puff. It was alriiiight. The puff was too crunchy for me--wish it was softer and fluffier. The cream filling was good =] But $1.95 for a puff that size isn't worth it to me.

Yumm!  My husband brought me home a vanilla cream puff and chocolate eclair after I finished my last final for my graduate program!  He truly knows the key to my heart - sweets!  They are pretty darn delicious, not too sweet and very light.  Plus, they're packed full of custard.  I'm all for sugary sweetness but the custard was oozing all over the place.

And yes, what is up with their hours, closing at 8 p.m.?  Yogurtland and It's a Grind are open waaay later.  They'd make a killing if they just stayed open one more hour.

With fresh unfilled puffs displayed at the window, we couldn't help ourselves but to walk into this mini pastry heaven.  You choose what kind of puff you want (original , cookie crumble, or chocolate eclair) then choose the filling flavor (vanilla, chocolate, or the filling flavor of the day).  It was obvious that it was our first time here so the sweet kid behind the counter kindly suggested the Cookie Crumble w/ today's flavor of Caramel filling.  The puff was fresh and the filling was sweet but lighter than I expected the caramel to be...kinda like creme brulee...!  OMG it was sinfully good!  Guess we found yet another place to ruin our diets.  = /

I am glad there is another Beard Papa location.

I remember being able to smell the cream puffs when I was sitting outside (near the store).  I noticed they had many unfilled cream puffs sitting right next to the window, too.

Because of the combination of the smell and the displayed cream puffs, I had to walk in and get some.  I decided to get a half a dozen of vanilla cream puffs to share with my family.  Its great that you can watch them fill the cream puffs right in front of you.

The cream puffs were definitely huge. =)  I was very happy to see the cream puffs not being smushed inside the box.

There is nice stool area for customers to enjoy their cream puffs.

where has this place been my whole life? i go to school at de anza, i did not know about this place until today D:

i'm definitely coming here again. 1.95 for the original vanilla cream puff was totally worth it. the size is perfect. any bigger would've probably made me sick of it. the taste of the vanilla cream puff was so right on point. it wasn't too sweet or too dull. if anything, the powered sugar sprinkled on top was a lot sweeter than the puff itself. i so want to try the strawberry filled one the next time i come back! and im bringing a lot more home for my family, as well.

From the name of the place and non-descript signage, we had NO idea what this place was, so we wandered over after lunch at Wahoo's and discovered cream puffs. We were impressed. They have special flavors, and it was caramel cream when we visited. We tried the normal vanilla and chocolate cream. You can get eclairs here, too. Both tasty flavors, though they were a little expensive. We may stop again if we're in the neighborhood.

My 2nd foray at a Beard Papa's brought me here to the one in Cupertino. I had tried a vanilla cream puff when I visited LA , and having found out there are Beard Papa's up here to enjoy, wondered what the other flavors were like.

I bought a box of 6 (2 vanilla, 2 chocolate, and 2 caramel) and headed out the door to be gluttonous in the comforts of my home.

These Japanese-influenced cream puffs can definitely get messy. Each bite oozed more cream out of the puff. By the time I was done most of the cream was on the wrapper I was holding. No problem there. That's where I use my face to dive in a slurp up all of that delicious creamy goodness. No wasting will be had.

I only ate a couple of them but I had the look of Jabba the Hutt just after he was choked to death by Princess Leia. A motionless body laying there with my tongue hanging out.

I remember those nasty cream puffs from Costco.  these are nothing like those.  The bread is crispy and the filling is light and tasty. I would have to say my favorite is the strawberry.  You definitely have to eat these within 30 minutes or they get all mushy on you.  Next thing you know you'll have a box of soggy bread.

Give it a shot!

Beard Papa's right next Wahoo's and a fro yo place? What a great combo! I didn't like my first experience at the SF BP because the girl totally skimped on the filling. But at this place, they totally hook you up. I got 3 choc and 3 vanilla to-go. It came in a cute carrying box and the total was just under 13 bucks. The guys working there were nice and I was in and out in under 3 minutes. I wish the filling was less like runny pudding and more like thick cream, though.

OMG! These are amazing!!!! The smell, the taste, everything about them is fan-freaking-tastic!
I have never liked cream puffs, but we were out with a friend, and we all wanted dessert, (and my guy hadn't been to a Beard Papa since he was in Japan.)

I totally loved these, and the calories on them is not nearly as bad you would think. Especially for a dessert! They're around 200 calories!
Sounds too good to be true :)

I will definitely be back.

Vanilla cream puffs sold by white jacketed puff-a-teers under the name Beard Papa's.  Ummm....I don't get it.

But do get the cream puffs and eat them while they're hot.  I got a box of 6 original vanilla, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, warm, cream-filled balls of love.  They have other flavors as well, chocolate being the other popular one.  You can mix and match the puffs if you like.

I think I'll open a chain of kimchee stores called Sweet Armpits.  Yum.

O. Migod.

Is there crack mixed into the cream because I seriously want to put my mouth to the dispenser and dispense cream directly in. Every Beard Papa's I've been to have been consistent - the cream has a thick, smooth texture and the puff pastry is light and flaky. The staff have always obliged when I requested "extra cream," although the guy today weighed my cream puff when he thought I wasn't looking and chuckled. I saw that!!! Don't scoff at the cream puff lady =O

Not too long ago my sister brought home this box of half dozen Vanilla cream puffs from Beard Papa, and put it into the fridge. She didn't ask me to try some because she knew I am not a big fan of sweet, or maybe she was being evil and stingy.

Either way, I was really starving that night so I tried ONE cream puff to kill the hunger.  One thing led to another, next thing I knew was that I got yelled at next day because I "accidentally" ate 4 out of the 6 she brought back. (Who the hell only buys half dozen when you have to drive about 30+ minutes for this)  I swear it tasted so good that I just blacked out and not remembering what had happened!!!  Nevertheless, I went to San Jose later that week and brought back 1 full dozen as a token of my apology to my beloved sister.

Rich, creamy texture with light vanilla sweet is the only thing I could somehow remember from that wild late night encounter...

Had to check it out.  The other one, nearest me is Redwood City.  In a strip mall, across from Vallco shopping center.  Today their special was green tea cream puff.  So ordered a vanilla and green tea.  Liked the green tea but my vanilla is still my fave!  Note to self:  the green tea cream did have the Exorcist coloring of green pea soup, don't look to hard at it.

I was on my way to yogurtland and I decided hey why not grab some cream puffs too? Ahem...US..obesity...Well anyways, I came in here and the store was empty, I took a look around if there was anything other than a cream puff that I wanted but there was nothing so I ordered two vanilla cream puffs. The two guys that were working there were HILARIOUS. So they're like standing right next to each other and the guy who filled the puff could hear what my order was but the cashier was like "two vanilla!!" and the guy next to him started to fill them "thanks!" and then after he finishes filling them he walks to the end of the counter on the OTHER side where it says "order pick up" or whatever and was like "your order is ready" and I was like two steps away from him at the cash register..hahah I thought that was interesting.

Okay, now to the actual puff. I really enjoyed the vanilla inside and as some other reviews have mentioned the cream being icy cold, I waited until after lunch to eat mine so it was at the perfect temperature. The vanilla was a perfect creamy consistency and not too sweet. I kind of wished the puff outside part was different, it was kinda flaky and thin, didn't really have much of a taste but I guess that's how they're supposed to be. I did think they had WAY too many puffs laying around in the open. They should be covered or something at least..maybe they'd taste better if they were hot out of the oven but I assumed mine might have been sitting there for a day...or maybe even longer......Oh well, overall I thought it was pretty delicious. $2.00 for a fist sized puff? Sounds okay to me.

For all the talk about this place, I was slightly let down.

It didn't melt in my mouth, but it was delicious though and worth the wait in line to order and buy them.

I liked it also that they put the cream in (via some weird skinny metal pump thing) when you order so they don't get soggy or sit there all day.  Also they were constantly making more puff shells, so you know it was fresh.

But again, not quite as good as I was hoping.  But I probably played it up too much in my mind.

But a damn good pastry nevertheless.

I loved Beard Papa's in Tokyo, so I am really confused about the location in Cupertino.  This is NOT the same tasty cream puff they serve in Japan!!!  Do not be fooled. The sploog in the puff is WAY to sweet.  Second, the pastry was NOT made that day...it could not have been as it seemed slightly stale.  La Patisserie in Campbell has the real thing.

Never had one before until a few weeks ago and all I can say is YUM! The  cream is perfect when its one of those super hot days and the sweetness of it is pretty fulfilling. It makes a nice treat as a gift for someone and they put the filling as you order so they aren't all soggy.

best cream puffs ever. a bit expensive, but it's worth it. i often order this when i have to bring dessert to potlucks,  in lieu of wine at dinner parties or want to give friends a special treat. If you need to order a lot, ORDER IN ADVANCE (20 min. before you need to pick up) - everything is made fresh on the fly so call ahead if you're impatient like me.

I love the difference of texture- the cream puffs are crispy on the outside and the cream is so soft inside.  Since the puffs are filled as you order, the puffs won't get soggy! The cream is also not overly sweet.

The girlfriend and I wandered in one lazy weekend afternoon, and decided to spring for the most premium item on the menu - a green tea cream filled puff that had vanilla cookie crumbles adorning the surface.

Although it was our first time, we decided to order a half dozen, and we didn't regret it one bit besides the premium price which was a bit more expensive than I anticipated.

The price, as well as the high calorie nature of the pastry, makes it a luxury that shouldn't be purchased too often, but you will definitely fight the urge to swallow a whole box whole!

The flavor was perfect, not too sweet with only a hint of sugar - a welcome alternative to typical American desserts which are often overdone.  The palate is definitely challenged to unearth the mixture of flavors, so for those who want a sugar fix, this may not be it.

The cream is light, airy, smooth, almost deceptively misnomered.  The shell is also similarly light and perfectly created.  The only negatives about the cream puffs is that the cream could have a thicker consistency to avoid it spilling as you bite through it, and if the puffs were fresher and warmer the experience would have been more pleasant.

From the look of the puff, I thought the outside is going to be really hard and dry but it was much better than it looks. I tried the strawberry filling and it had real strawberries in it but I feel that they should have put more fillings. The service was friendly and the price is reasonable...also it happen to be next to a frozen yogurt place.

The boy lured me over to his place tonight for an hour with the promise of Beard Papa's cream puffs even though I had to come home and go to sleep early.  I remember my attempt to go to Beard Papa's before being foiled by their 9pm closing, and after hearing it all hyped up, I was eager to try.

Why are they so big?  I'm used to those bite sized cream puffs that I can just pop into my mouth.  This was like a large... cream.. bun.  I think I'd be much happier if they were smaller.  The vanilla was quite good - I like the actual puff part, and the filling was tasty.  The chocolate, on the other hand, was disappointing.  The filling tasted funny... kind of like chocolate pudding, which has a weird aftertaste and I don't like.

Anyways, what with the abnormally large size + high price, I don't see what all the fuss is about.  Both the boy and I remarked that we've had better cream puffs from Costco.

A little on the pricey side, but its a guilty pleasure.  So light I feel like eating a dozen could be harmless.  Love the vanilla and chocolate, have had a chance to try the flavors of the day.

Beard papa's.
Gawd the mascot alone gets 5 stars
The tshirt "who's your papa" 4 stars (-1 for lack of female sizing)
The puffs 4.5 stars (-0.5 for still circulating flavors i dont like even though i petitioned for removal and request for green tea to be available all day erry day)

13.5 stars DING DING DING.

Ambulances had to come get me when i went into cardiac arrest from driving down the street and finding out they opened one by De Anza.

Strawberry puff YES
Vanilla puff YES
Chocolate puff YES
Chocolate Fondant YES
Green Tea puff YES BABY YES.

The puffs are made fresh every day and pumped with the cremey goodness (thats what she said) on the spot. The puff is soft and flakey, dusted with powdered sugar holding a magical surprise inside.
There is ONE downside. You have to eat it within the day. Don't think about refrigerating it. If you have to, only fridge it for a few hours till you will eat them, because the consistency will go weird after awhile. They even note on their packages that it must be eaten within a day.
But I'm Papa's girl so i'm not going to knock down a star. Family stick together.
