Giving Beanies 4 stars as it is one of the better place in town and they made a serious effort to decorate the place so you really feel like you are enjoying yourself in a true Mexican patio.
The negatives: chips and salsa were subpar: chips too salty, salsa, the tomato sauce type. The tortillas were another downer: straight out of a bag and barely warmed up.
On the plus side: service with a smile, full bar, plenty of good choices for food. We had the grilled mahi tacos and cochinita pibil, both good. The true savior: the desserts. The flan was outstanding. So yes four stars for the decor, atmosphere and desserts. -

All I can say its the only mex place in port?
Prices a bit high? For a hick town?
lot's of lettuce makes the item look big but not worth it!
I guess the locals that never make it south of the track's think its a big deal in Port

Driven by the rave reviews on Yelp, my wife and I came here for lunch and a drink. We had high expectations and passed on a lot of other great-looking dives and decided on Beanies.
However, our expectations took a quick hit as we got our appetizer, the queso dip. Made mostly of milk and raw spice, it tasted like a microwave experiment gone wrong and was coupled with some of the saltiest chips ever. I really don't know what the idea was behind it.
The margaritas were very blah, though their menu showed a lot of foresight in tequila choices. Not sure what went wrong but by this time, we were hoping the entree would be the saving grace.
Not the case! Beans were not fresh! They tasted days old, just disgusting. The rice and meat were just bad. The food was down-right insulting and I am thoroughly boggled by the Yelp community's reception of this place.Comment from Marcia E. of Beanies 1/7/2012

Great salsa and margaritas (very fun bar with swings), but I haven't found an entree there that I have truly enjoyed. The food seems inauthentic (again, except the salsa, which is awesome).

Beanies is my all time favorite mexican restaurant!
The salsa is to die for. We often times walk in just to buy a jar on the way to a party or family event. The decor is bright, fun, and fitting.
The staff is always accommodating and willing to work with special orders/substitutions. The food is great.
Margaritas are a little expensive but they have drink specials on certain days. -

It's ok, I don't crave it. Not nearly the best mexican restaurant like some people say.

Went to Beanies, my husband and I were very pleased with our food. The only problem...my son did not like his meal and said so after just one bite. I asked the waitress if they could change it for a beef taco which she did and quickly too. The surprise came when we got the meal and were charged for both kid meals. We paid it and left her a tip as it is not her policy but we will most likely not be returning.

While driving around Wisconsin on a cold winter's day we ended up at Beanies, which looked like our best option in Port Washington. We lucked out. The staff was friendly, the chips and salsa came quick (and was amazing) and the burrito was pretty damn good. I got the "belly buster" and it succeeded in filling me up. The bar has swings instead of stools, which is just plain wacky. I've been disappointed in so many Mexican restaurants in the last year, but Beanies was pretty awesome. (When I mentioned it to some friends, a number of them had great things to say about Beanies as well.)

Who would have thought we'd find a very good Mexican place in little Port Washington? I had the mahi grilled fish and it was excellent. My wife had the fish tacos which were also very good. The chips and salsa were tasty and the service was fast and friendly. Like most Mexican places, the atmosphere was bright, colorful, and good for kids. Easy place to recommend.

Lunch Review - Crab Queso Enchiladas, and oooh baby they were nice. corn tortillas stuffed with crab and topped with a green sauce with some cheese blended in, and the requisite rice and refried beans (if Beanies could come up with a new idea for the refried beans and rice, they'd start a culinary revolution). My partners in crime had enchiladas combo plates, and they came off pretty tasty as well.
Its a great spot for a meal after spending time on the lake. You can go for a meal or hang out at the bar. The bar has swing seats by the way, which must be absolutely hilarious after a few margaritas. The look and layout of the place is very nice and the service is good. It felt pretty good walking in there from the heat outside.
Only issues I had were that I thought they loaded the ice tea glasses with a lot of ice, and I didn't see straight up green or red chili on the menu. as for the ice in the glass, that might be just me and my personal whininess. the ice tea on the other hand was refreshing, served with a slice of lemon, and they also have a fruit-flavored variety. As for the straight-up chili, they do serve a chili-in-a-bread-bowl dish, but I was looking for a simple bowl of highly-spiced green or red chili served with some flour tortillas, and it may be that this dish is now simply passe or not that popular anymore. But the rest of the menu has some interesting dishes. The Mango Salsa Tilapia sounds great, and I think it'll be my choice next time.
They also have a good range of appetizers and salads, a childrens menu, and a small selection of burgers and sandwiches and fish and chips for those wanting something simple.
