Best Cafe EVER
they have a HUGE menu...including Falafel which is my FAV. All their lunch and breakfast options are super yummy. Never had any of their crepes though. I bet they're good too. It's reasonably priced, and good for people who can't agree on a type of food they all want to eat, because they literally have everything.
The atmosphere is generally pretty awesome, I really like sitting outside.
The only downside is that it's cash only and there's one girl who's always working there who seems like she'd rather be anywhere else.
Anwyay, always delicious, I always leave satisfied, and I've never had a problem with my food. Comes pretty fast too.
I wanted to do some day drinking in SF yesterday.
" Is there any good day drinking spots near your pad" , I asked my longtime pal , Pete.
" Tons of places with dollar Pabst", he replied.
When we walked in, there was no Pabst on draft. Stella, Watermelon Wheat ( 21st Amendment), Big Daddy IPA, and 2 others. The lady working the cash register informs us that it is Happy Hour, where pints are only $1.75.
NICE.
I ordered a hot turkey sandwich as well for lunch.
While eating outside, I ran into numerous people from my past. I felt like a chip off the old block. Some ladies dog even sat near me and I fed it a french fry.
While I am not the biggest fan of San Francico, this place and few others make me forget all about that.
cheap pints, decent food, and mellow people working there are recipe for success.
Thanks for the fun afternoon, Bean Bag.
This place is so neat I'm reviewing it *even before leaving the place.*
Cheap beer... for the win. That is all. I thought I heard wrong:
"Uhh a Stella for the lady, and a Lagunitas Pale for me..."
"That'll be $3.83"
"Uh.. I got two beers, you know?"
"yes, $3.83 please"
*gonk*
Awesome.
Oh no...oh no!! Why did the cheap beer thing finally get noticed? why oh why. Anyway, bean bag is basically my backyard, and if I cut through a few courtyards, I could get there without even stepping foot on a sidewalk. SO that being said, its pretty awesome to have so close by.
A few months ago, they were always "busy" but you could still get a seat! Not as much anymore :( But for obvious reasons! insanity cheap, good beer, great location, lots of outdoor seating / standing and good food!
Crazy busy on nice evenings & on nights that theres a good show at the indy. go, but not when I want to!
Oh and DO NOT MISS the pull-up guy who does pull-ups on the street light on the corner. youll know who im talking about..
After dinner, we were walking around before we went in search of dessert and on the same street as our restaurant, we saw patrons sitting outside this cafe with what seemed like beer in clear Solo cups... what the.... BEER? In a coffee house? We had to check it out!
You walk in and it's really cozy and there were blackboards of menu items of pretty much anything you want: breakfast items, savory and sweet crepes, sandwiches, hamburgers, pasta, sides of other things, cookies, pastries, coffee, tea, lemonade, and even BEER behind the counter (which is not listed on the menus).
What makes this place THE best is that a pint of beer will only set you back $1.75+tax, which is less than $2 a pint!! They also have this cool Watermelon beer that is pretty good. Beer infused with the watermelon rind. Yum!!
The sweet crepe, Jamaican, with bananas, caramel, and coconut on top was awesome. It comes with your choice of icecream or whipped cream. We opted for ice cream and out came Vanilla bean! OMG. Soooo good.
Definitely a place you must come back to again and again!
The best way to soak in SF. !
This is a cool little place right on a corner where you are aloud to stand around outside and drink beer while chatting it up with your pals. Not just any beer but the have a good verity of tasty brews they serve you for about 2 bucks a pop.
I was instantly hooked on the Anchor Steam.
A good place to meet up with friends and start out your night.
Next time I will have to try something from the kitchen.
Stella Artois pints for $1.75?!?
If you need me, you know where I'll be. Thanks.
Love this place! Not only is happy hour 3-10, $2 pints, but the food is great too!
I recommend the portobello mushroom sandwich- delicious!
Also, seating outside, which is great on a nice, sunny day:)
$1.75 beers? Uhhhh, how is that not worthy of 5-stars right there? And not just crappy beer either, they have pints of stuff like Stella Artois, Lagunitas IPA, Prohibition, and some funny watermelon beer. Before a show at The Independent (or any nighttime occasion, for that matter) ... this is a deal that simply cannot be beat!
If you're more into the daytime offerings, it's really a coffee shop that moonlights as a place to grab a few beers. They coffee isn't necessarily anything to gloat about, but they have a nice selection of different food stuffs. From breakfast scrambles to crepes, bagels, salads, sandwiches, etc... you're sure to find something you dig. And, it's all pretty darn good to boot!
If you're in the 'hood and have less than $2 in your pocket, you actually CAN get your hands on a sweet little buzz. Whether it's the caffeinated kind, or the kind my dad used to enjoy getting every night after work with a 12-pack of Natty Ice.
Best breakfast potatoes ever. Rich, chocolaty mochas, friendly staff, tasty smoothies and fruit drinks and great casual eats for lunch and dinner. I took my mother and my friend to dinner there recently and the grand total was $40 for a very yummy meal. My favorite neighborhood spot!
i only give it a 4 star b/c i never tried anything else other than their #29, which i think is really really good! its pasta with some kind of tomato based cream sauce, shirmps, onions, olives and mushrooms... tossed on top of some green salad.
#29!!!!
Just a few blocks away from my new place and a highlight of the neighborhood.
The perfect place for coffee, crazy-cheap happy hour and all day num food.
Plus, I can sit here with my laptop and type the day away!
This is definitely a great regular spot.
Amazing crispy thick fries. Total friday buzz, crowded, beautifully airy ambiance. Feels like home. Hamburger is not the most superlative meet but is an extremely fulfilling big bite, a great stack of onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a fluffy delicious fun.
Life is good at Bean Bag.

Total down home college town style cafe with CHEAP microbrew pints (including that great watermelon… Read more »
I tend to do a lot of work on my laptop, so I usually go to a cafe so I can at least people watch and chat up other patrons while I park it for hours. Bean Bag is a place I can go to get a yummy brunch (best homefries), a smoothie, and sip on some coffee if I need a boost.
After awhile I'll put away the laptop and invite friends for their happy hour ($1.90 for a pint of Stella, Fat Tire, or Big Daddy IPA...the new watermelon beer is good too) and munch on their delicious Roso pasta, penne with clams and prawns in a marinara sauce along with cheese-covered toast.
By far my favorite cafe in the city to work and play in. There are plenty of outlets, seating (outdoor and indoor), windows, and the wifi works perfectly. If only it stayed open till midnight!
With beer prices like this what's not to love? Honestly. It is less then $2 for a Stella on tap... which happens to be my beer of choice at the moment. How can I not fall in love?
This place is like Mother Theresa. She may not have been your scene or your style, but Christ, you gotta love her!
So generous and so giving to those in need.
So freaking good! I love taking my friends and family here because it is what you would expect from San Francisco. The workers are pretty cool too, very sweet, food comes out fast. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu drink wise or food wise. Perfect place for morning hangovers!
Be aware that it is cash only and you bus your own tables.
Less than 3 blocks from my house, draft beers for $1.75 after 3 PM, decent amount of outside seating, and a great crepe selection. Doesn't get much better then this.
I love this place im there at least 2 a week drinking beer and chowing down on there bomb ass salads. I love this place its hard to find a joint especially on sat's were you can get $1.75 beer.. Bean bag u ROCKKK...
After the memory of almost puking on a crepe a few months ago faded, I decided to give this place another try. I ordered a burger medium rare. They made it well done, but it was still juicy, yummy, and prolly cooked away the bad bacteria.

i dont understand how a place stays in business for microbrews under 2 bucks. you cant even go to the market and find a bottle of a microbrew for that cheap.
anyways, im not complaining. mixed-crowd, mostly of locals. the pastas are just ok. ive tried the rollo and the rosso, which were both average, hence the 4 star rating. it would be five stars just on the value alone.
Five stars for the $1.75 drafts !!! This is one unemployed waldo who has finally found a place where I can go and afford to get her buzz on !!!The food is definitely above average for a coffee shop, with a menu so large even the pickiest eater or vegan can find something delicious.
Some of the cheapest beer in town, and good beer at that. Stella, Lagunitas Pale Ale, 21st Amendment Watermelon Wheat, etc. The beers vary and they do run out on busy nights. Very popular on Wednesday and Thursday nights, it may take a while to get a table but hey the beer is cheap and Divis is pretty popular during happy hour.
The good is pretty good too, I've had the portabella sandwich and the burger. Both were tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The sandwich comes with fries or salad, burger does not. Relaxed atmosphere, perfect for coming with a few friends, grabbing a beer or two and a bite on the cheap.
A cute little corner cafe that serves coffee and beer.
Honestly, I'm not sure what else to say because beer/coffee+big windows+cute hipster boys all over=bestplaceever.
$1.75 happy hour beers.
Great neighborhood.
Outside seating.
Attractive young crowd.
Need I say more?
The Bean Bag is a great deal. There are no "bean bags", they are referring to the fresh roasted bags of coffee beans. And the coffee was good....
I went there this morning and ordered an iced coffee and breakfast sandwich, being that I am watching what I eat these days they made me a special sandwich of egg whites with tomatos and pesto on whole wheat.
It was really good, I think I'll go back and try one of their crepes or sandwiches. Pints of Stellas are only $1.69 after 3pm. What a deal. I love Stella.
Great place to go for an early dinner and/or happy hour.
$1.75 draft beers (good stuff like Fat Tire and 21st Amendment) and decently priced sandwiches, wraps and burgers.
Cash only.
Oh man, I am downgrading the B-Bag to 3 stars. The food's still great. The service is still sort of patchy. The prices are fine.
But the customers... good lord, can y'all just please go back to the east coast already? The last time we tried to grab some of those oh-so delicious burgers for dinner we were seat-jacked not once but *twice* by straggly-haired skinny-jeaned types having nothing but beer. You know that moment when there is a table opening up after half an hour of waiting... and you have made eye contact with the person leaving and begun moving towards it... and some jerk darts forward and tucks his butt in the seat (being much more agile than you are, because he is not HOLDING A PLATE OF FOOD) and gives you a smug, victorious look? Yeah, that's Bean Bag in a nutshell. We're boycotting until the hipsters get old and move to Noe Valley.

oh bean bag how you have stolen my heart....
I used to just come here for the cheap beer, 1.50?? (it's gone up to $1.95 but still a STEAL!) and now I mostly come for the food.
Cheese burgers are amazing as well as the pasta dishes. Great little place to chill on a nice summer day or night. If you decide to come on a nice day better come early cause seating goes fast.
Only down fall, the cheap beer brings in such a crowd that if you order food you may not have a place to sit. Oh yeah, and the bathroom is NASTY!!!!
oh bean bag, how i love your $1.75 microbrews... and your proximity to my house... and your reasonably priced adequately tasting food.
what don't i like? (i didn't knock a star for this because it probably adds to the charm of the place) there is a lack of tables. this is a place where you really have to scout out tables and watch for people finishing up on their beers so you can pounce. only problem, people can seriously camp out for hours here. they offer free wifi, it's laid back, and the beers are CHEAP. so why not make a day/night of it? i know i have. and when you work so hard to get a table, you sort of feel like you should stay a while.
I ordered the portabella mushroom sandwich with fries. The sandwich was delicious. I would pass on the fries. They tasted a little soggy. My friend ordered the tuna melt sandwich. Just a warning that they pile on a lot of tuna on the sandwich with one thin layer of cheddar cheese on top. If you love tuna, order the sandwich, if not, you should probably pass.
We also ordered the Banana & Nutella Crepe with ice cream and chocolate syrup. What a brilliant idea to add vanilla ice cream to your Banana & Nutella Crepe. It was so delicious, I had to maintain all self-control to prevent myself from purchasing another one the same day ~ definitely was my favorite dish there.
Warning: They only accept cash so be prepared!
I love this place for several reasons.
1. I can't rave more about their buttermilk pancakes
2. Awesome prices for Happy Hour Beer!!
3. Burgers are not bad if you're in the hood.
4. low key, no drama, you can get coffee, smoothies, even crepes!
This is a great neighborhood find.
I must say, after coming back from an all inclusive resort for about a week, you really don't want to cook. So having awesome cafes in the hood makes us so spoiled.
Just a hop skip and away.
Note: they do serve dinner on Sundays now.

I may have just found the most perfectly cooked bacon in my life. Granted, my obsession with longitudinal pork products cooked in their own grease didn't begin until recently (although I always made time for it, now I actively seek it out), but finding perfect meat is a constant quest in my world.
I threw myself out there on the mercy of my friends to find a brunch companion (or three), and my darling Angelo F. responded. He suggested this place, and so I made my way from the hood here. In the car, I thought I was craving eggs, but when I got there I realized I wanted some french toast. With a side of bacon. And apple juice. And a cafe au lait (I was really hungry).
While the french toast was decent but nothing special, that bacon was divine. I only got three strips, but devoured them so fast I almost thought someone had stolen them off my plate.
Delicious bacon goes a long way for a review. Sure, how this place is laid out is weird, although it's not rocket science. I probably won't try one of their smoothies- they all have banana in them, which makes life difficult when you're allergic to bananas (weird allergy, I know). For all the food I got the price was reasonable, although I'm glad I had cash since I don't trust those little ATM machines in places.
Mmmmmmm.....bacon.....
--Must go back to blowing in paper bag--
Bean Bag!! How I love thee. No matter what time of day, you are always reliable and consistent on giving me my daily dose of caffeine. I miss you.
Ok I'm done professing my love for this place.
This place is perfect for when you wake up and don't want to cook anything (or just don't have anything in your fridge). They have a wonderful selection of crepes and other b-fast items. My favorite is the florentine crepe--mostly because I feel healthy eating something that has green stuff in it and tastes good. Also, don't forget to come here at night with your posse to kick back and enjoy that $2 pint of Stella. YES TWO FRICKIN DOLLARS! Too bad the one time I did go at night I was the only one out of my group to be take that up (they promptly ran out).
Bean Bag is probably the place I miss the most in the city. Probably because it was 2 blocks from my place. However, every time I'm in the area, I make it a point to stop in..you should too!
This is the friendliest place in our awesome neighborhood. I walk past 2 other cafes to hang out at the Beanbag because the service is great, unlike the snobbiness of Cafe Abir.
As a displaced Californian now living in Boston, places like Bean Bag are what make me want to return.
Quaint, friendly service, delicious food. And now I hear there are happy hour beers below $2? Bean Bag, I wish I could pick you up and drop you across the street from my apartment.
The tuscan crepe was delectable, and as it was paired with a side salad, an incredible deal. The pancakes were monstrous and fluffy. The lattes were also great, making the experience positive all-around.
Maybe someday I will come back to good ol' NorCal for good. But until then, I'll be sure to come back to Bean Bag when I visit.
awesome happy hour here!!
It's also across the street from an awesome venue (the Independent).. we killed some time here before doors opened over there.
I got a watermelon something beer for $1.75 which was great, but the downside to Bean Bag is that the place was so packed inside that there was only one open table outside and it was freezing out there at like 7pm.
Some guy was having a cheeseburger near us that looked really good.
I'm pretty sure this place gets just about everything right.. maybe they need to expand the seating a little and it'll be perfect!
I ate a late breakfast here. They sell both sweet and savory crepes. We split one with bananas and nutella that they topped with whipping cream. It was so good. I also got eggs, bacon and toast. I was really surprised at the portion size. You get a lot of great food for a reasonable price. They even have a happy hour with $1.75 micro brews and Stellas. This must be the cheapest beer in town. They also have sandwiches and salads if you are eating there later. It makes me almost not notice the super ghetto bathroom.
Ok so here is the thing about Bean Bag...
$1.75 pints, 3-10 pm and microbrews none the less.
That'll do pig. That'll do.
Unfortunately, I really hate the whole cash register line up situation. Its right in the center of the place, clogging up the walkway, and very poorly managed. When the place isn't packed, newbies aren't really sure where to stand and wait. Some times people line up to the left, sometimes the right, sometimes right down the middle of the god damn establishment... they're usually mouthbreathing and staring into the heavens for a few minutes too trying to decipher the menu. So if you try and make eye contact to assess if they are in the pre order or post order phase of their journey its a lost cause. And kind of awkward cuz who wants to make eye contact with an unacquainted mouthbreather?
Ok, so not the worst thing ever...
The thing that makes me like this place less that I want to is well... the crowds. I mean what do you expect when they are pretty much pouring beer down your throat for free? Unless you get there in the early evening youre going to be standing around like a dumb ass wishing you had a place to sit. And what do you think the turn around is going to be at a place like this? Pretty much non existent.
This place isnt really conducive to standing and drinking either. I've thrown around the idea of showing up with a lawn chair or two but haven't had the moxie to follow through yet.
Oh wait... they have food and coffee too. I'll make it short and sweet, its pretty yummy. Just stay away from the chicken sandwich. It instantly transported me back to a sweaty and loud middle school cafeteria, which is pretty much my equivalent of the 4th ring of hell. But with a meal, bev, and a tip you're not going to get yourself out of there for under $12.00. If you're interested in throwing down that much, Mojo has better sandwiches. But if you're broke like me and need a sammich go to Alamo Square Market. You'll be happy you did.
At the bag, its about the beer. Just don't get there after 8. And if you're going to line up all willy nilly, try to keep the mouth breathing to a minimum.
According to my local SF contact, this place is impossible to get to for brunch on the weekends. We went on a Sunday for dinner and it was not very crowded. There's free wifi, and it seems like a nice place to come and chill. The servers are friendly and what service there is is good. The food was also good. I got the Millano pasta which is delicious. My boyfriend and I just went back for lunch. Their crepes are good but the fries are only mediocre.
Ok Bean Bag. You've been too good to me. You get one more star.
