Love it!  It's a casual cafe with orders placed at the counter.

The selection is overwhelmingly well-rounded with choices of healthy, hardy, light, sweet, & savory foods including sandwiches, crepes & salads... & drinks including smoothies, beer & coffee.

    Delicious fries!

I will make sure to revisit.

Nice for you and friends or if you are alone with your laptop but I took off a star because the hipsters were so rude to my three year old who just wanted to say hi. We sat at a shared table and immediately the guy and his girlfriend rolled their eyes and went somewhere else. My daughter said "Why they go?" and I shrugged it off. Then someone else sat down with their coffee and their friend came and said "Lets not sit here with kids." That was awesome

So I love the food and the owner is nice, but it is crowded and not a place for kids. Come for a cheap beer or work on your computer but don't expect to get a big welcome with your little ones.

Get the crepes!!! Any of them. They're topped with your choice of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Your mouth will be happy.

So will the rest of you. Because everyone working the counter is always smiling and friendly. And food comes out lickedy split! The interior is a bit grungy (in an endearing way), but if it's sunny, I prefer their outdoor seating. Mix that with some sugary goodness, and the experience is heavenly!

This place is the perfect corner cafe. Good coffee and amazing and yummy food selection. Lots of breakfast options, sandwiches & crepes, shakes, salads, etc. I've had both breakfast and lunch here a few times each. I haven't come here to work during the day, but I think I might start...

This place was bloody packed!  I stopped mostly for quarters for the parking meters, but grabbed some coffee for the Mrs. and a spot of tea for me!  Very friendly employees and the atmosphere was a crazy kinda ecclectic coolness that was quite inviting, and with a brilliant perch on tha corner of Divisadero and Hayes, you could people watch for hours!

Also conveniently located half a block away from Roland Feller's violin shop, so I'm sure we will be back! :)

I don't write many of these reviews, but had to write a quick one as I come here often and very much appreciate this little spot!

Great place to get work done with free wifi. The people are really nice, and although the coffee is usually better at mojo cafe (next door), I would usually rather come here because of the good vibes.

The food is pretty good, too, good oatmeal & egg dishes, yummy, not too expensive smoothies.

    Yay bean bag!!

YES!!!!. Good food, on Divisadero, fairly priced, COUNT ME IN.

Bean Bag has quickly become my go-to lunch spot. Cheap beers, awesome people watching, outdoor seating, What else could a girl ask for? I always always either get the jaguar crepe or the portabello sandwich, and im never disappointed!

I AM a little sad they replaced the New Dogtown Pale Ale with the Boar creek w/e it is... but i can manage. Ive also noticed a lot of reviewers complaining about service (or lack thereof) but I mean, come on! It's a dirt cheap counter service cafe. I also think the snarky little bitches that work here add a ton of charm to the place. (Then again, I'm not too easily offended.)

Also... I wouldnt mind a couple of actual Bean Bags.

I always stand outside of this place when I catch the 21 on Hayes/Divis. The extent of my visits would be when I'd not so sneakily co-opt their chairs outside while waiting for the bus. I actually never really thought to go inside till Muni failed me (as usual) and the bus that was supposed to come in 2 min never came. I had 23 min to kill and walked inside to get some coffee.

The place was definitely cozy and the people behind the counter were definitely friendly. I was surprised to see that there was a huge food menu that looked tasty. I creepily stared at people's plates and saw that they were pretty large portion sizes and looked delicious.

That day I ended up selecting some tea and hung out for a bit guilt-free on their chairs outside until that bus decided to show up.

I have since gone back and had a few of their smoothies, their thai iced tea (pass!), and coffee. Definitely a great muni-bus-failed-me-so-i-have-to-kill-time kinda place.

This has become my wife and my go-to spot in our neighborhood.  Everything we have tried so far has been really really good.  Few of our favorites:

    - Breakfast burrito - absolutely amazing!  Eggs, potatoes, avocado, cheese, salsa and black beans.  All warmed up and toasted on the panini press.  Don't get it with meat - it doesn't need it.
    - Pancakes - they make some seriously amazing pancakes.  They are massive though - you don't need more than one.
    - Falafel wrap - this thing is ADDICTING.
    - Crepe with tofu, mushrooms, spinach and peanut sauce - really good and super healthy
    - All of the coffee and espresso here is top notch.

Only downside to this place is it takes a really long time to get your food.  But they have free wifi so it's a good place to go chill for an hour or so.  Basically don't come here if you're in a rush or can't deal with throngs of hipsters.

Ok, you will always see me leaving a not-so-great review when the
    service stinks.

    My order goes like this:

Girl stares at me blankly for a few moments then says "suuuup?"  (wtf?!!)

No: Hello/Welcome/How are you?/Do you have any questions?

I tell her what I want, she takes my order while joking with her pal in
the back at the same time.

Gives me my receipt and says it will be a few.... continues talking to
    her pal in the back.

No: Thank you/Enjoy/Have a nice night

I think she said a total of 5 words to me.

    Service S.U.C.K.S!!!!

It's only saving grace was that my thai tea and coffee were good and
they have free wifi... but big deal. I can find that a dozen other places
where I will also be greeted with a warm smile and character.

Ok, I need to come in for lunch more often because I am loving their garden burgers with a side salad! I know there doesn't seem to be anything particularly spectacular about veggie burgers and salad but it was such a refreshing meal! Everything tasted fresh and crisp and I was sad when I finished everything on my plate.

In a city of many hidden gems, this is one you have to try.  I met someone here for a drink before we went dinner and was impressed with how awesome this place was.  The thing that blew me away the more than anything was how cheap the beer was!  2 bucks for microbrewed draft beer.  Unbelievable!!!!  I didn't get a chance to eat, but the food looked good and the people around me were enjoying it.  The service was great too and the waitresses and servers greet you with a cute smile.  I will definitely be back for more.

Well why is this place so popular?
I'm going to state the obvious and say cheap beer and wines because that seems to be why so many people go and why people talk about it. It is true they have great 1.95$ beers and a pretty long happy hour, enough to get you silly buzzed to start off the night.

There are other things I like about this place though. The outdoor seating, the good food, the friendly staff and the cute people that go to have a beer and study on their Macbooks.

Things standing in the way of 5 stars:

    1) Clientele leaves something to be desired, especially the fuck faces that hang out on the Hayes Street side of the building.

    2) This place needs to be open past 10 PM.

    3) The Big Daddy IPA is tired and kinda gross.  Please change your subjective tastes to match my own, thank you.

    4) It's not a rub n' tug joint.

    Highlights:
    Cheeeeaaaapppp beers.
    Freeeeeeee wifi.
    oouuuutttdooor seating.

This is a pretty cool spot, and while it's not my favorite coffee shop in the area, I'll definitely be caught in here from time to time.

A great allure to this place is the menu--lots of options! All kinds of sandwiches, breakfast omelets, crepes (that I haven't had but smell CRAZY good), and even salads and burgers. They serve yer regular coffee, tea, and juice sort of stuff but also beer and wine.

I'm not totally in love with this place, though. It's just not really a cafe to me, it really is more of a restaurant and a great place to grab some grub. It's pretty noisy, between the people and the music, so it's not the best spot to get work done on your computer (free Wi-Fi, though!).

So, A+ on service and food and drinks (try the hot chocolate. I mean, dayum). More of a C- on atmosphere if you're looking for a "cafe" cafe. But still a seriously cool spot to stop for lunch or dinner and conveniently located near the Panhandle!

The beer selection leaves a lot to be desired, but you cannot beat the prices. The tea and coffee I've had here was good.  The ginger drinks were so gingery that they were overwhelming.  It's been extremely crowded every time I've been here, with all the indoor and outdoor tables taken and really no space to enjoy your drink or food.  There is no 'service' to speak of -- there is an order counter which works through the line pretty quickly.  I normally end up standing outside on the street corner, awkwardly gulping down my drink and trying to convince myself that the price justifies the inconvenience... and then giving up and going somewhere else for my next drink.

Probably wouldn't go back.  Stopped by because I was in the neighborhood and hungry, and it looked popular.  Got a table just fine and ordered at the counter -- french toast with bananas.

Then I used the bathroom -- gross!  Maybe I just had the bad luck to use it right after someone who decided to pee all over the place, but it was pretty gross in there, I had to roll up my pantlegs so they wouldn't get floor grossness on them and use a lot of wads of toilet paper to wipe things off.  Wish they had toilet seat covers but they didn't.

Then I came out and my spouse was getting grossed out that there was a dog eating in the restaurant.  A family was sitting nearby with their dog, and then the guy put his omelet plate down on the floor for the dog to eat off of, then put it back on the table.  Ech!  I hope they wash the dishes really well!  Then the waitress came over with a slice of cheese to feed to the dog.  So I guess having a dog diner is endorsed and encouraged by the staff, even though it's against health dept regulations.

I got up to get water from the water station, but it was empty (great, so the staff has time to feed a dog, but not check the water).

Then the food came.  I realize french toast is not a healthy meal, but it was covered with powdered sugar, and the bananas weren't fresh/raw, but rather sliced bananas cooked in a sugary syrup that was covering everything.  Ick.  The menu just said "french toast".  The meal was good, but so sugary that it was like dessert instead of a meal. It would be nice if they mentioned the powdered sugar or syrupy bananas, I would have gotten it without.    We were anxious to leave and hoping the kitchen isn't as dirty as the bathroom.

Cheap (good) beer, great service. I don't usually order food but I do throw down some pints and the staff never get irritated by my lengthy alcohol infused stay.

There's a nice vibe there. If I manage to nab an outdoor table I'll usually end up striking a conversation with the people next to me which is nice. Friendly strangers in this town can often be hard to come by.

I love Bean Bag Cafe for many reasons. I met the love of my life here on the first day of 2002. Exactly three years later I married him at Bean Bag. We told the owners, Mike and Moe that we wanted to get married there and they were so sweet and let us! They are such good guys. You can really feel the love here. (Well, at least we did). In general, all the cashiers and folks serving the food are nice and attentive.

It's clean and user-friendly. It can get a bit crowded at night, so if you're into that, go at night, but if you like a little space and calm, check it out for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

About the food-I LOVE the savory crepes. My favorite is the Vienna, but on occasion, I get the Jaguar with a side of their tasty home-fried taters. Perfectly crispy and soft on the inside. The varieties of coffees, teas and beverages are plenty and delicious. It's my favorite neighborhood place to eat or get coffee. It's a good place to meet clients, take friends, go on a date or to get married!

Okay, it can get kinda crowded, but if you find a table you are golden.

    Attentive and friendly staff.
Food came out prompt and delicious- I got the chicken pesto crepe with a salad. (Yup I got a salad instead of fries)

The soy chai I got afterwards was pretty good too!

The place is well marked, across the street from the #24 bus stop, and it has plenty of tables to accommodate groups both large and small.

The menu is easy to find on their website, if you want to peek before going, and it is displayed in easy to read text on boards behind the register.  I placed my order at the counter and was a bit disappointed.  The girl who took my order seemed ambivalent that I was standing before her about to order something to eat - not sure why she had a tip jar sitting in front of her.

The service was very average, and I didn't see a waitress wipe down a single table during the two hours I was there...but the food came out quickly, so that's a plus right?

Lastly, the prices were reasonable, ~$10 for a soda and sandwich with a side of salad or fried potatoes.

Veggie Falafel for the win!  How can something that has the word 'veggie' in it be SO good?!  I stared longingly at it til my sweetie had no choice but to offer me a bite.  *CHOMP*  "Hey!  Where'd it go!?!" Hehe... sorry, sweetie.  I'll buy you another.

I ordered the Portebello sandwich-- which was simple and delicious (and healthy!).  I love how they grilled the mushroom to bring out the flavor, add the veggies (and I don't even like veggies) and it was so yummy. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the home fries.  I'll stick with the regular fries in the future!

A tiny cafe (gets cramped fast) but friendly people abound.  You'll find yourself squished between the counter, people and tables while you order and pay, so steer clear of the cashier area and score a seat after you've placed your order.  We didn't get a coveted seat outside, but we did score one inside.

Their coffee will kick your ass to the moon and back.  Try it, it's bad (in a good way)!  Couple it with the food and you'll be glad you stopped in.  :-)

searching for burger place for friends that needed a burger while visiting SF to take to park and hang. Bean Bag recommended by local for take-out burger since we opt to not eat inside at Nopa (diagonal from Bean Bag and highly recommended). the burger report from friends was great, but cheese burger with fries missing bacon. we are not from SF and love bacon so this is prolly why we missed it.
I enjoyed a Pink Passion smoothie that was yummy fresh and good to enjoy in the sun (strawberry, kiwi and orange juice), AND good for me at less than 2% fat.
CASH ONLY. I'm glad i was carrying cash with me; otherwise, I would have missed out.

Funky place . . .We don't go for the cheap beer (which, by the way, is excellent), or for the wi-fi.  We go for the delicious & inexpensive food.  The ingredients are high quality and the portions are generous, all done fresh for you.  We've been there for breakfast, lunch, & dinner and find their food to be more satisfying than more expensive & slick places.  This is our favorite everyday kind of place--great honest food.
Some of our favorites - For breakfast:  hueveros (?) rancheros, bagels & lox, crepes w mushrooms & artichokes, & omelets, & fresh fruit; For lunch: hamburgers; Dinner: pastas, fried calamari.
Look for their specials, esp on the weekends, when they might have fresh fish or Neiman steaks at bargain prices.

I used to come here most sundays for brunch before or after the farmer's market down the block. Since moving out of walking distance Bean Bag has been one of my most missed places to eat. Every new brunch place I try gets compared to Bean Bag and comes up short. The day I moved unfortunately coincided with Bay to Breakers, yet I was determined to eat at Bean Bag one last time so I waded through the sea of drunk costumed people and enjoyed a tasty baja omelet.

I love the interesting and colorful menu. As a vegetarian I appreciate the variety of breakfast options I have coming here. The portions are large and the coffee is fresh. It can be a bit hard to find an empty table (mostly Sunday brunch), but one always opens before my food comes. Bean Bag has the best home fries around. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, but not dry at all.

Yummy breakfast.  Seriously, don't miss their potatoes, they are crunchy delicious hashy goodness.  Unfortunately, they don't know what "juevos rancheros" means, but what they gave me still tasted good despite its lacking in the Mexican flair department. At least they have bottles of hot sauce on hand so I can add my desired level of spice to get my blood flowing early on a Saturday morning.

I will gladly come back here for some brunch, but I don't plan on coming at night when it is invested with smoking hipsters looking cool but trying not to look cool.  Seriously, hipsters are a disease at this place after dark, you can tell just walking by.  This problem has scared me away more than once.

Look I know what it's like to have to work after being out all night.  I could tell the girl taking my order was still coming down but thats no excuse for ruining my breakfast.

I order an omelette with gorgonzola, mushrooms and an english muffin.  What I ended up getting had orange cheese, mushrooms, onions and wheat toast.  It tasted like ass and totally killed my appetite.

I went inside to ask for a new order or my money back but got the cold shoulder so I just left the food on the counter.  Now I'm out $10.35 and going to be in a bad mood all day. :(

I have lived in San Francisco for almost eleven years teaching French, translation and interpretation for a living. I'd been looking for a place where I could have a beer (I like a good pint after a hard day at work) without having to deal with the whole bar scene. A place I could relax, maybe work on translation jobs while listening to my own music on my ipod.  Nine months ago, while strolling on Divisadero Street, I saw a bunch of peeps standing outside Beanbag firmly holding their pints/plastics of beer like trophies. After investigating I realized Beanbag was what I'd been searching for.  Nice patrons, great collection of cheap beers- my favorite is Big Daddy IPA- for  less than $3 after 3pm ,Mon to Friday, and  even cheaper on Sat and Sun ($2.19).

Where else could you find that deal in SF?

They also serve wine and punches.  As the food goes, I have had their hamburgers a couple of times and I highly recommend their cheese burgers with french fries. If you aren't  into hamburgers (I understand ya), you can always go with their deep fried calamari, which will cost you less than $5.  Since I'm not really a coffee or tea person, it's N/A in my review.

Beanbag has been MY SPOT since I stepped in 9 months ago, and I continue to recommend the place to students or folks who just want to have a fresh pint of beer after work.  Their brunch menu on Sundays and Saturdays is something to try. My ex- girlfriend and I had their eggs and salmon dish with potatoes, it was sooo delicious .

A special thanks to all the nice baristas who are very helpful and always have a big smiles on their faces .

First time to Bean Bag. It was a quick stop to warm up after the mighty winds started blowing.

Jumped in ordered the hot chocolate and defrosted! I really thought the place was cute. Small but not cramped. I loved that the waitresses all had on cute vintage dresses!

The service was great and the hot chocolate did not disappoint. My fellow friends enjoyed a cheeseburger and fries. Both were happy.

Next time I am in SF I will stop by this nice little spot!

p.s. The bathrooms were just redone when I was there and they were not scary to enter at all! Big bonus points on that one!

Bean Bag can be properly and accurately described as 'Crepevine's Hipster Sibling.'

They have a great menu set up that I would love to see implemented in more places throughout the city. Their crepes are listed vegetarian and give patrons the option of adding chicken or salmon- instead of vice versa.

Aside from their savory crepes, they have a pretty solid selection of sandwiches, salads, omelets, and sweet dessert crepes. The few items I've had here were just as good, if not better, than I expected.

While the Crepevine in Pac Heights closed, Bean Bag is always bustling with people every time I pass by. Perhaps everyone comes for the good beers on tap for $1.75 (Hello Stella!), but my theory is Bean Bag perfectly occupies a niche on Divisadero (great food, casual cafe) and I don't think the street would be the same without it.

I have grown quite fond of this place.  It really isn't anything too exceptional, but it is definitely a solid cafe on all fronts.

This place has become my go-to weekend brunch spot for the following reasons:
    -Very good coffee
    -Good Service
-Wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner
    -Great homefries
    -Cute girls working the counter
-Outdoor seating and a nice indoor atmosphere if nothing is available outside
    -Fair prices and cheap beer

They also have pretty good burgers and a wide variety of smoothies.  I really think this place is an ideal neighborhood cafe.  Way better than anything else of the sort on Divisadero.

    Keep it up Bean Bag.

Bean Bag oh Bean Bag how I love you.

Prolly the most unassuming kitchen in the city, Bean Bag churns out delicious grub at very reasonable prices. They have a great and very diverse menu for such a lil spot. I've yet to try there crepes but their pastas are delicious, surprisingly their burger is delicious (get sum shrooms) and their breakfast is pretty darn good as well.

It's definitely a 'specific' type of crowd that goes here - the mid 20's folks that think they're the coolest people on Earth. Being a man with many hats I tend to get along with everybody.

I absolutely love the service here. Always with a smile and quick to crack a joke.

The beer specials speak for themselves.
