This was a ONE STAR.  Read the whole review.

My wife and I visit Vancouver regularly.  In early September we visited during labor day weekend.  It was a beautiful day.Took 45 minutes to be seated but were seated outside with a view of the river.  We watched many go ahead of us till we had to say something.  The hostess apologized stated she would get right on it and promptly forgot us for another 15 minutes.  My wife went to her and asked to see her manager.  The manager is who seated us.  We never saw him again.

Our waitress was lethargic.  Took 20 more minutes to get our drink order.   Our food was the same debacle.  Finally we asked a busser to speak with a manager.  He brought us Brian.  Brian comped our meal, gave us some caramel corn as we left and promised us a gift certificate in the mail.  A month went by an no gift certificate.  A couple phone calls later Brian called and we set up our next visit for the coming Sunday (10/23/2011).  He said he would be out but it would be taken care of.

We arrived and the hostess knew my name and immediately seated us.  The waitress took our orders within minutes of being seated and we had drinks in 5.  Just after that the manager came and introduced herself and thanked us for giving them another chance.

The food is good and spot on for a family style bar and grill.  we really enjoy the oyster shooters.  The prices are a bit high but the view of the river is awesome and those never come cheap.  Brian (manager) is fighting to get the service up.  I recommend Beaches Restaurant & Bar.

Most overrated place ever. I'm guessing it thinks it can have crappy servers who serve cold food and take forever with drinks because it's close to the water? I'd rather hit up McMenamins next store.

The server we had when we went only had maybe three tables; however, she was never around. It took upwards of twenty minutes to get our drinks, and when someone joined us a bit later, she couldn't even order until we actually got our food. The server was a young girl and very indifferent. She was more interested in talking to the other servers than to her customers. I hate to be a person who judges an entire establishment based on one server, but wow. They all kind of seemed like that. Everyone around us was impatient for their servers attention.

I also thought the menu was very limited and too expensive. I'm not going back there again.

Beaches reminds me very much of the hundreds of touristy/corporate places that are a dime a dozen throughout Southern California where I spent most of my life.

So if I am feeling a bit homesick I suppose this is the place to go.  All it needs are more Seagulls.

We did Happy Hour which means we could sit anywhere in the Bar area, but not out along the water.  Our server was super nice and attentive.

The HH menu has something for everyone and the items were surprisingly tasty.  I especially enjoyed their Chipotle Chicken Taquitos, not authentic at all, but good none the less. My friend enjoyed her spicy chicken wings and we both dived into salads.  I can't recall what we drank to be honest  but we had a nice time and good food while feeling just a bit like we were somewhere in SoCal.

Crab sandwich, fish & chips yummy as is all their desserts! Inside seating is loud and alive with electricity of locals and family chats!

Been to this place a few times, usually with the family, and still have mixed reviews of this place.

*location=perfect. sit outside on back deck, if possible.

*service=lousy. our waitress would ask if we needed another drink and would NEVER return with the drink... gets old when you've asked 3-5 times for another long island. Also, she walked away twice while I was ordering... it took 20 mins for 5 people to order dinner?...

    *food=bland & pricey.

The best thing I had at, Beaches was my Long Islands...
...maybe will hit Woo Song & Larry's next time I'm in Vancouver.

Beaches, I love you. Is it because of the food, gorgeous views, and classy ambiance? Only partially. My dinner here was made special by the young lady who took our order. First thing I told her was that I was 'low carb' and she immediately knew what I was talking about! "I won't bring you any bread then." And she didn't give me the fish eye for wanting a steak a la carte. She even had them put extra blue cheese on it. Nom!

I have been there when I was still eating sugar, and the Bananas Foster is mind-blowingly awesome.

Came here with the lady, and the food took a while to come out.  It was expected, seeing all those people there.  I ordered a pizza and my lady got the seafood pasta.  The seafood pasta, I understand it was seafood, but it tasted MUCH TOO like the ocean.  It tasted like they didn't rinse the seafood off.  My pizza got extremely soggy halfway through my meal.  The server was extremely nice though.. but the experience was just mediocre.

We used to really like this place, but it seams that the service has REALLY gone down hill. Along with the food. So thats the reason I gave it a 3.

The appetizers are good, specially the Thai beef. Yum, the drinks are yummy too, but on the spendy side.

My wife and I have nixed the place, but we come back for the Banana's Foster.  If I could rate the place strictly on this dessert, I would give it a 5.

The problem is, the service used to be fricken awesome, the wattress's had these little journals they would carry around, so that the customer could write a bit about their experience. And the the customer could read about others experiences or where they were from. For some reason they yanked that. So, you almost be personable with your waiter or waitress.

Or at least the last few times, the waiter or waitress didn't have them.

For the money I'd rather go to the McMinnemens next door, then come here for the Bananas Foster.

Decent food at slightly higher prices than warranted. Perhaps a nice place to go on a sunny day if you can get a table with river views, but we went on a rainy day and got seated with views of the parking lot. Oh well.

One weird thing was that the wait staff made a big deal of asking everyone's names as we placed our drink order, even writing down our names next to our orders on their pad. A different person brought the drinks by though and just auctioned them off (e.g., "who had the stout? the amber? the butte?"). Same with the food again. Took everyone's names and then delivered the food auction style "burger with cheese? mahi? ribs?) This kind of annoyed the table. What's the point of getting all of our names (twice) if you aren't going to use them and you don't even bother to remember who ordered what any way?

Yummy.  Went for a quick dinner.
The beach house salad is always a sure bet.
This location has a stunning view.  If you can get window seats (we did this time) you've won the jackpot.  The bar is always pretty loud.
Service is usually friendlier and more attentive than most places.

They have a few signature elements - each server has a comment book and they give taffy instead of mints with the tab - cute.

Kids get a trip to the "treasure chest" and a bucket of toys and crayons to play with during dinner.  It was always a big hit when mine was little.  Yes, they sanitize the toys, I asked.

Desserts are also worth saving room for - the Almond Roca ice cream comes in a candy "dish" that is really tasty.  Also key lime cheesecake is tasty.

If you are in the area, don't bother with the "Shack" down the street-  it's hideous.  This place has some nice appetizers, good ribs, and entrees...and don't forget dessert!

Had such a great experience at Beaches. We sat on the deck with our dog - something the McMenamins the next block over would not allow on their deck.

The staff at Beaches went above and beyond their duties to make us happy, which was very unexpected. We inquired about a dessert that was, unfortunately, not listed on the menu. Instead of saying they didn't have it, someone actually went out, got the cake question, brought it back and made it restaurant presentable prior to serving. Kudos to them to providing most-excellent customer service.

We will most definitely be back.

I met some old friends for HH here and we had a blast! We got there at 4 and actually found some seats together, which probably had something to do with it being "christmas break". The food is good and decently priced and there are always a few drinks that are super special prices!

We did have a blunder this time and for SOME reason our pizza came with BBQ sauce on it...yuck! It was quickly fixed and the money refunded so that made up for it.

I've also been here many a times for regular dinners, always with a good experience!

Checked this place out over Christmas break w/ my sis.

    Here's my highlights:
Busy (lots of holiday parties going on)
    Loud (very open/high ceilings)
    Wood Fired Oven (oh yeah)
    STRONG Margarita (oh yeeeeah)
    Shrimp (yummy)
    Pizza (Yummyyyy)
    SUPER friendly staff (nicey nice!)
River view seating ( but dark!)

The deck outside looked nice for the summer. I thought they could have had some lights so you could see the river. AND they forgot to plug in their Christmas decorations outside (bummer)!
    I like this place!

aside from the cocktail my lady had (pineapple mojito), this place was dumb.  all of it.  from the layout and decor, the servers outfits, the noise, all the way to the food, it was just dumb.  we got a couple appetizers and pizza.  the clams had no flavor to them except sand.  what flavor the sauce did have was too watery and wasn't mixed well with the clams.  the crispy pork was very dry.  the menu says penko flakes, but it seemed more like normal breading.  the dipping sauce was okay, but the pork was just awful.  the calamari had the same taste as the pork.  it was nothing special.  i was disappointed but wanted to see if their pizzas made up for it.  they don't.  the ingredients tasted great, the dough had a nice smoky flavor to it, but the combination was watery and bland.  nothing held the pizza together as a single food.  i would not go here again, ever.

okay, maybe for desserts, but i'm sure i'd regret it.

if you're looking for a nice place to eat along the waterfront, don't be fooled by this place.  it has everything to ruin the location it has.

Seasoned fries: often so so heavy on the salt. Or limp ... perhaps even soggy.  Or lip-slippin'-greasy.  Or way way too much 'season'.

Beaches' seasoned fries: perfect little wedges just crispy enough on the outside and comfy warm real potato on the inside to make one wonder "are they baked?"  But no... they're FRIES.  Just done so well that this vegan's heart was warmed and comfort meter satisfied enough to consider stopping by again when I'm passing through [even though the salad had too many pieces of browned lettuce, too few pieces of snow peas and ...despite my having it sans chicken or honey mustard dressing was still full (over $11!!!) price (I get it; just thought that with the great gesture of getting on to first name basis with our server, there might be SOME consideration...)]

Anyway... seriously... the seasoned fires.  P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

2 stars are ONLY for the view & the service. The food was 1 star at best.  Took my two grandgirls there for birthday lunch today.  Darcy the server was a sweetheart, as was the rest of the staff   Birthday girl (age 9) had the kids Green eggs & ham...  The ham was dry and tough and she asked if she could skip eating more than the one bite she took.     (this is a child who is a hearty eater).   Other grandgirl had kids curly pasta with marinara.   It was much tastier than the lunch special pasta I ordered which had olives, artichokes & a few small fishy tasting shrimp.   It was overall incredibly bland.   Biting into an artichoke was the only time I got any sort of flavor.  The rest tasted like plain cooked pasta.   I also ordered the ranch salad having forgotten from previous dining experiences that Beaches has never ever used anything but large chunks of white iceburg bland lettuce for their salads with way too much purple cabbage thrown in for color with watery ranch dressing.    Hello?   There are beautiful organic GREENS and SPINACH out there that are so much more flavorful & healthy than plastic tasting iceburg with nondigestable cabbage.   Come on Beaches.   Step it up.  Please?   Or we'll have to start looking for someplace that feels worth our hard earned $$$.

Pretty great airport restaurant, however the sushi rice we got was overcooked and sticky.

The atmosphere was pretty good with an open flame table and rotating motorcycles with a bar on the side.

The teriyaki chicken was pretty good and packed with flavor, the crab cakes I got were decent as well.

This was my first time here and I came with big expectations based on the great reviews.  I was a bit disappointed.  Besides the service being somewhat slow, my Big Salad was not all that Big.  Let's just say I've been served dinner salads that were nearly the same amount.  It is advertised under the "Big Salads" and called the Beach House Salad - their Signature Salad with grilled chicken.  The "mixed greens" were pretty much all iceberg lettuce.  There were no tomatoes, cucumbers, or similar vegetables.....it was a very plain and boring salad for $12.00.  The chicken was chewy and flavorless as well.  On the bright side, the chips and beans salsa appetizer was good.  We also had the 3 bean chicken soup, Creme Brulee, and sorbet with berries and they were all very good.  The view of the river was nice.

Go for the Happy Hour!  Just go.  It's reliably tasty with a great selection.  The wait staff really is the high point.  They are super pleasant and reliably provide excellent service.  They make a genuine effort to remember your name for the evening and future visits.

Aside from Happy Hour, Beaches is also very kid friendly.  Great kids menu including ice cream and a trip to the treasure chest.  If you happen to go on a birthday, they will even print out a special menu with the child's name on it.

Also, great river view and outdoor seating.  Decent food in a comfortable setting with great service.

I just took my dad here for my birthday and we had a great time. They made a special effort to recognize his birthday by writing it on the chalkboard when you walk in, printing out special menus with his name on it and giving him a special "gift" (a mug with salt water taffy). Most restaurants don't put so much care into celebrating birthdays so I thought it was really cool of them to do that.

The food is good here, not anything out of this world, but good and not overly expensive. I got a $16 steak and that's what it tasted like.

It does get insanely busy here and the crowd is sometimes, what's the word, "douchey"? Some of the servers are young and seem inexperienced, but overall nice and get the job done.

I wouldn't say it's a super relaxing place to go and watch the sunset over the water...maybe the outside tables are less loud? But, it's a good, fun place to go with the family and have a nice meal.

On our trip from Seattle area back to Reno we wanted something sit down and relaxing.  Yelp helped find us something on the water.  Cool.

We put a reservation in, just incase this place was gonna get crowded.  Thankfully we did.  It was a little busy when we got there so it was nice to know we had a table.

To put it simply.  The food was pretty good. My wife was disappointed that the fish & chips wasn't a beer batter.  And I was happy because I got her leftovers!  The daughter got the pizza and it was good too.  (enough to help mom get her fill after passing on the remaining fish and chips.  We left satisfied so portion size was good as well.

The service was overall good.  The staff seemed interested in the work and also seemed to like working there. I know, strange thing to say, but really I see it so many times where wait staff is just "doing time" to get the money.

Atmosphere was nice too.  Would be a good destination place if I lived in Portland or Vancouver for sure.

Would I go back?  Sure.  Would I recommend it to friends?  Sure.

There's a lot of energy and a lot of people packed into this place! I would say the main perks are the servers who buzz about, gushing energy and happiness. The servers would get a 5. The food on the other hand, is pretty lackluster. Notably, the iced tea had no flavor - it was like water with a hint of tea essence. Even more upsetting, the clam chowder was filled with globs of flour that gummed up your teeth. The river view is alright - not much action out on the water though. Maybe it'd be nicer in the prime of summer.

It's on the river, it has plenty of seating with views of the river, there is a large bar with a  good happy hour, and also outdoor seating (for the restaurant only).  It is busy.  I was here recently for happy hour, and it was a good deal.  The food menu is varied the prices reasonable, and the food pretty good.  The happy hour drinks selection is limited to one type of beer and wine and one mixed drink.  Too bad you can't sit outside when you are not necessarily there to have the full (and much more expensive) dinner.

Went again Friday night. It was our anniversary. They were ready for us on time with a window seat. Specials menu said "Welcome _______ happy anniversary"

Knew what we wanted and split everything. No problem. Everything great.

Time for desert- berry crumble not so hot. Waitress asked how we liked it, and asked if we wanted something else. She asked what was wrong-too much sugar and not enough crumble. Went and talked to chef.

In the past, whenever something hasn't been right, they've more than taken care of it. One time, we forgot a camera. Someone from the wait staff went out and bought disposable for us.

People who have posted about food complaints should have said something. Sent back an over-cooked piece of meat one time. Chef brought another back out to see if that one was OK. Spent some time talking to us getting feedback.

    Good service, Good Food.

Yep, its not the best but it is still good food.  If only they would do something with their sales taxes up in Washington, then it would be a whole lot better.

The girls and I crossed the Columbia and spent the afternoon riding bikes through the Fort Vancouver Park area.  It was a whole lot of fun.  The nice part was we were able to stop at Beaches there on the waterfront.  We asked for a window table, (since it was a very cloudy day.  20% chance of rain in the northwest means 80% chance of not so wet weather).

We started out with clam chowder, cioppino soup, and a green salid with small shrimps (redundant, eh?). The girls split a rack of ribs and I had the sea bass.  Both were very good.  We finished off with banana foster, and the B52 cake.  We are so full.

The highlight of this trip was a World War Two Purple Heart Veteran was seated next to us.   I saw him walking down the ramp to our level of tables and I had to put on my glases to read his hat. I stood up until he was seated.  I walked up to the table and introduced myself.  I shook his hand and thanked this Veteran for my freedom, my family and friends freedom.  I sat back down to finish my meal with the girls.  When it was time to pay the bill, I asked for that tables check too.  It is the least I can do for his pain and suffering protecting Our Freedom.  If it wasn't for men like him and his generation, we all would be speaking german now.  Somehow, young people today do not understand these things.  God bless you sir.

On a hot summer night, this place is packed and LOUD.  There were a number of very large parties (10 -20 people) throughout the restaurant and our family group of eight was repeatedly asked if we were there for a special event - it is that kinda place.  Many looked like large work functions (lots of dudes ordering steak on the company tab?) and couples and smaller family groups all wanting to sit outside to take in the stunning view.

We were there from 7 - 9p watching sailboats on the Columbia as the sun started to set.  Spectacular.  Things started out well with some good margaritas and chips with chunky salsa.

My entrée selection should be filed under no good deed goes unpunished.  Decided to select a 'healthy' option and their Big Beach House Salad with Grilled Chicken was the worst salad I've had in recent memory.  Limp iceberg lettuce (didn't that go out of style in the 70s?), grilled chicken, jicama, dressing and not much else.  Bland and horrible - I barely picked at it.

Most of the other entrees were better received (salmon, BBQ ribs, seafood fettuccini, pesto primavera, vegetable stir fry), but I don't think anyone is dying to go back for the food.  This is a huge disappointment because the service was excellent.  And not just our server, who was working her butt off to take care of our party, but it was systematically good service.  When you walk through the restaurant you are regularly greeted by people in the kitchen, other servers, busers, etc.  It is a very warm, bubbly, beachy atmosphere.  You can tell they really want their customers to have a good time.

Also, kids are treated really well.  As part of their meal, they get to go to a treasure chest and pick a toy (jump rope, kite), not just a tiny piece of junk.  The server then takes them on a tour of the restaurant, and huge walk-in refrigerator, where they get an ice cream treat.  But, even my kids barely touched their entrees.

So, we truly had a mix of excellent and awful.  Guess that evens out to a 3?

The most beautiful dress I have ever worn in my life was obtained in my 17th year.  My senior homecoming at HBHS -go eagles- was to be a fun occasion with my date / best childhood friend.  As we planed where to go for dinner with our buddies we figured the obvious choice was Beaches.  This is because the Vancouver Restaurant has 2 target clienteles: the teen out for a good time and the adult in search of decent meal. I don't know who you are, so pick your review accordingly:

    The hip high schooler:

Yo! Beaches is awesome.  When you make reservations let them know something is up... they'll write your name on the chalkboard at the door. That's rad man, take a picture with your disposable camera.  Your mom/girlfriend's mom/limo driver knows exactly where this place is and there's tons of parking and the girls won't have to walk far in those shoes.  Your waiter is cool and laughs when you make a crack about ordering a round of tequila... you get ice tea. Ice tea is what grownups drink.

Looking at the menu you can pronounce everything, and there's nothing super fancy that will set you back a lot of cash. And there are a ton of salads for your date to choose from.  Salads are weak sauce.  It takes a while to get your order out, but there are 12 of you, and you don't notice... all the old people walking by keep saying how good you look.  Where's your date going? The bathroom?  Oh... ok all 6 girls are going now. That's ok, the check is here, they split it for you... Man, what'd Dad say? "Take the tax and double it to leave the tip and thank your waiter..." If he's wicked cool he'll let you pick something out of the toy chest, haha... dude you should totally wear that eye patch in your picture. Your girlfriend will love it.

    The rational yeep:

If you're not in the 14-18 year old range, are not chauffeuring them, or are wanting to avoid them and the bottles of cologne they have apparently decided to wear, then I'd suggest Beaches as a great lunch spot. It's causal place where the staff is young and friendly.  The menu is pretty basic, offering sandwiches, burgers, pastas and dinners.  The majority have a seafood flare, but they do a pretty good chicken too.  They are very accommodating to vegetarians and are happy to make a custom dish or revise a menu item to fit your needs.

It's a loud and busy environment, and sometime you feel like you're shouting to be heard.  This may or not be an issue to you, but know that it's not as bad in the afternoon.  They are prompt to get you a beverage but orders from the kitchen may take a little longer. Don't go if you're in a hurry.  Prices are reasonable, issues are quickly and sincerely corrected, and you leave with an overall good vibe.

    Fun tip:
There can be a wait at times but if you're feeling active ask the hostess about checking out a bike parked outside and going for a quick ride along the Columbia River.  Note I don't recommend this if you're dressed in your finest.

I probably wouldn't ever go here for an evening out again, let alone wear that beautiful black velvet gown here (It's still hanging in my closet).  But if I'm in the area, ready for an alright meal with a great view of the river, then count me in... yo.

We went here for a company Christmas dinner. Though the place was packed and our group was large, we were promptly seated and the service was excellent.

Everyone enjoyed their food and the full service bar. Parking was a little unorganized (I think they're doing some construction) but overall it was a good experience and I'd go again.

Came here on a drive to the Columbia river.  I would say this place reminds me of an upscale Joe's Crab Shack, where the food is just alright, but people go because of the view.  I was a little disappointed when I walked in, because I figured that along the strip of restaurants one would be more reminiscent of the Chart House or at least a McCormick & Schmicks.

Once you get accustomed to the fact that this is a kind of cheesy joint, things are too bad.  The place offered your standard seafood/family restaurant.  You know, spinach dip, stuffed mushrooms, etc.  Those were the apps we ordered, and they were good, but nothing special.  The Greek chicken I ordered was also good, but a tad heavy.  It tasted like it was sautéed in a pound of butter, not the flavor I was looking for.

Yet with all this averageness, this place gets 4 stars.  And why you ask?  Because of that goddamn bananas fosters.  Freaking amazing!  Mind blowing orgasmic!  With that almond roca basket you can't go wrong!  So go here for the view and the dessert, and apparently the happy hour.  But other than that, I say go at your own risk of mediocre and higher priced than it should be food.

    HAPPY HOUR:

Great selection and big portions!  Probably one of the best happy hour values in town.  Drink specials are so so but the food is always delicious.  It's first come first serve so if your bringing a group, expect to wait, they wont let you save seats.  Really REALLY noisy in the bar though, practically had to yell the entire time to uphold a conversation with friends.

Friendly staff and fairly low prices. Food is average considering the price. No happy hour prices on beer, though.
