Finding a gem like the Beachcomber Cafe is the exact reason I absolutely have to have my Yelp app when I am away on a shoot.

We had some time to kill before heading to the Arcata/Eureka Airport; we were a motley crew indeed.  Thank goodness we found the Beachcomber Cafe.

First of all, it's cash only.  The Beachcomber Cafe is this perfect blend of organic, local casual cooking with friendly service.  It felt like Oregon in there, and I mean that in the best way.

We had some of the most delicious sandwiches.  I had a sandwich that featured beets, chevre and larrupin, which is a dill sauce that seems to be a Eureka area specialty.  The cashier was kind enough to recommend a loose-leaf tea that was supposed to boost immunity.  It was delicious and served in a beautiful mug I purchased at the Beachcomber Cafe.  The mug was made by a local potter and it was stunning.

My co-workers had some delicious lemonade and I tried some of their Moroccan Stew, which was delicious and a perfect wintertime stew.

I really hope to come back to Trinidad and eat again at the Beachcomber.  It had such a cozy neighborhood feel.  It was exceptional food and except for us, everyone seemed to be a Trinidad local.  I love a small beach town community in the winter; that's my favorite time to go to a California beach, anyways.

If you are lucky enough to be nearby, you really must go to the Beachcomber Cafe!  The food is delicious and the vibe is cozy and unpretentious.

We're in Trinidad and we have about 30 minutes before we need to start setting up for my brother's wedding reception next door.  We didn't really have a choice because the town of Trinidad is about the same size as a large gas station, but we left this cafe happy and satisfied.

First of all, this place is totally North Coast - nature photos for sale on the wall (about 100 of them), all the employees wearing homemade beanies, and no paper cups for coffee, but rather a collection of eccentric mugs. Chalkboard menus, a corner for tots, and each table unique from the other. It would fit right into Portlandia.

I made a great cup of coffee at the coffee table, with raw sugar and half-and-half, and we sat down at table for two with flowers and waited for our food.

Lacy ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese and some kind of soup - I can't remember what kind of soup, but I remember we were sad when it was gone. The bagel was perfectly toasted and flavored with capers and onions - those are becoming our comfort food.

I had the black bean bowl, some kind of daily special, which was just a bed of black beans topped with two poached eggs, jack cheese, and a generous amount of avocado - yummers!  A hearty lunch that got me through until and 8pm dinner.

Overall a great find - it's got to be the local lunch place in Trinidad.

I love this place.  Awesom eco-freindly spot.  Bring your own to-go cup if want to take your coffee and run.   Also don't come here if you are in a hurry.  Good things take time.  Great tea selection and a nice outdoor seating area are just a few of the highlights.  They always have amazing specials and delicous homemade soups.  I always get the eggy bagel on toast, or the tunafish sandwich.  The tunafish is the best ive ever had!!!

The food is excellent, the coffee is good (no to-go in disposable cups) the service is friendly and there is often enough seating. Be sure you are not in a rush because the wait for food can sometimes be long. If you are in a rush, Murphys supermarket is around the corner. Your'e in Trinidad...relax!

We ate lunch here two days in a row. The sandwiches are amazingly good. They were out of bread the first day, but the backup wheat bread was perfect. I had the turkey, which was good, but my party raved over the humus and avocado sandwich.

The soups are good. Try the soups!

I like the tuna sandwich myself. I could eat it everyday. It reminds me of the kind of food my hippie aunt used to make. I think it's because the food is made with love.

Love this place. Great community spot. Reassuring that there is good business at the very core. It is a little close to home so am not frequent visitor, but it is always a great stop. It's a favorite of bikers and kayakers.

I am slightly obsessed with the Beachcomber Cafe. I don't even know where to start.

This little gem was the highlight of a 30+ hour roadtrip down the coast that stretched from Portland to LA. We stopped in Trinidad to check it out and find something to eat, and the Beachcomber Cafe stuck out with its bright orange exterior and chill vibe. Upon entering, my three companions and I were welcomed immediately. The cashier asked our names and remembered them, had opinions to share about different items on the menu, and was extremely friendly.

Besides the excellent service, the food was delicious. And I'm not just saying that because all I had eaten for three days was fast food. I ordered a turkey sandwich and I promise I'm not exaggerating - it was the best turkey sandwich I've ever had. They kept it simple, like it should be, but added flair in all the right places. Perfect proportion of meat to foccacia to veggies. YUM.

Boyfriend had the special of the day which turned out to be some sort of stew with black beans, poached eggs, and avocado. It was great, but I liked my sandwich better. Our two friends both had bagels with lox - also very tasty. The best part? It was all organic and very fresh.

I also enjoyed how homey it was. They had a guitar that anyone could pick up and play, as well as walls decorated with paintings and pictures made by elementary schoolers from the school across the street.

Overall, if you're in the area, do not leave without stopping at Beachcomber. If you're close to Trinidad, find a way to get there.

One of the best places to get a bite on the Lost Coast or North Coast.  I'm sorry I didn't discover it sooner.

They've got a coffeehouse vibe: order at the counter and find a table.  The food options are good. They use really good bread and fresh ingredients.  My panino had Cypress Grove chevre, beets, fresh greens, walnuts and more.  My companion had a sandwich with tasty hummus and avocado.  They served our sandwiches with samples of the coconut-curry-carrot soup, which was delicious. Both the regular menu and the board of specials & soups made it hard to choose what to order; that's a rare and good thing for me.

As others have said, they have a commitment to reducing waste. So for to-go drinks, you either bring a commuter mug or buy a mason jar with lid for a buck.  If you stay, you can either take a mug from the counter or bring your own from home. I like that.

There were people hanging around outside and inside, with lots of locals who knew each other, catching up.  Staff were equally friendly to everyone, though, and we felt welcome.

If I lived here, I'd be a regular. When I'm headed down the 101 from Crescent City, I'll find an excuse to stop here. The baked goods looked great.

The Most Amazing $5 Grilled Cheese of My Life.

The first time I went, they were really busy for lunch. We ordered Grilled Cheese not expecting much because it's the cheapest thing on the menu. We weren't in a hurry so we just chilled in the cozy little area they have there. We thought they forgot about us. Maybe they did because when we finally got it, it came with this amazing yellow soup (larrupin?) AND IT WAS MIND BLOWING. The next time we came at a slower time, different people were working. And we didn't get soup.

Moral of the story: Buy grilled Cheese. Remember to ask for soup.

    +Cool local art.
    +Great food.

    THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!

They serve your tea in mason jars! How hippie is that? Oh, I have a cupboard full of them! uhm, this is a great place to take in local culture.

They even have a rack on the wall where the locals leave their tabs!!!

    TABS?

A  small town in America where people still operate on the honor system and trust each other; even though there's a big threatening sign that says not to let your tab exceed $10, "don't do it, just don't do it!" lol

Interesting study on small beach community living near and around the greatest ganja growing landscape. Hmmm, wondered why the herbal tea was so relaxing.

Seriously, though, they had Vegan soup! That was delicious. There's also tasty and healthy snacks. Too bad they're not a full on restaurant as tasty as the food is.

Don't go to Trinidad without stopping in this cool joint, don't do it, just don't do it!

Oh geez, I gotta stop giving away these secrets, especially since most pass up Trinidad as a spot on the map or a small sign on the side of the fwy....good thing, it's small and gorgeous. An ancient sacred Native ground.

At the very least the girls are super friendly and gave me detailed directions and descriptions of the sites.

    ******** GREEN CAFE! ***********

I may have found my perfect cup of Mocha Cafe! Unfortunately it's over 300 miles far!

They offer you to buy a mason cup for your coffee for a dollar if you don't have your own. Or they will serve it in a nice sized coffee mug. NO PAPER CUPS to litter!

They're very conscious about what they sell. Mostly natural muffins and other stuff. They're GREEN!

Cozy little cafe right in donwntown Trinidad next to the Volunteer Fire Station.

This is a pretty busy medium size cozy cafe with free Wi-Fi!  Street parking only.

They do offer lunch and dinner twice a week.

Sorta pricey mocha and muffin= $ 8+. They take CC's!

What an awesome place!!  Pacific Chai, super-fun Mason jars as an option for take-out coffee (you can get a cozy!!).  I don't know where they get they're smoked salmon (we checked at Katy's, no dice!), but OMG Lox on a bagel.  Also, the peaches and spice scone was fresh out of the oven...
    K. Random hiker came in, played his dulcimer for a bit, helped with a bit of heavy lifting, and earned his breakfast.  Also, I'm told, really good coffee, friendly people and just plain great place for a coffee.

Traveling towards Oregon, we stop by to check out the Trinidad beach.

We stop for coffee. We really want to drink the coffee as we walk down the beach.

"Hey, can we borrow these cups? We are going to the beach, we will be back."

"Yea! Sure! Just make sure to bring them back."

They trusted us with the cup that held genuinely good coffee. We gave their cup back, walked away, and smiled knowing there are shops still in existence that trust the customer, and above all, people. Amazing place.

the most amazing thing is that this place does not have ANY to go cups. you can buy a mason jar for $1 . just IMAGINE how the world could be if every coffee shop eliminated disposable.

the chai with rice milk was perfect as we danced and sun-salutated in front of the powerful ocean.

It's a cute, hippy-ish cafe in a quaint little town. There aren't many places to choose from in Trinidad, but we were pleased with our choice of the Beachcomber Cafe.
They offer a menu of Los Bagels' bagels with a wide variety of delicious toppings and spreads/ We simply ordered one of their everything wheat bagels w/ cream cheese and a "slug" with cream cheese (a slug is basically a long-shaped bagel, which, alas, can be said to be slug-shaped). Both were toasted carb goodness.
The cafe also offers a case up front full of various pastries. I tried a blueberry crumb cake, a banana-chocochip muffin, and their strawberry-cream cheese and blueberry scones. And no, it was not all in one sitting. The coffee cake was dry and somewhat tough with a definite lack of flavor. The muffin was also not as soft as I would like, but it was still tasty and enjoyable. But the main stars of this little cafe were their scones! We arrived here around 9 am and the scones we ordered were fresh and warm. They both had a lovely crust, a soft and buttery interior, and a delicious flavor. I look forward to eating more of these babies the next time I'm in Trinidad. Two bagels, two scones, a muffin, and a slice of coffee cake came out to be around $14. I also bought their day-old chocochip-walnut cookie for only $1 and it was inhaled by my family within minutes. It was that tasty.
I appreciate that this cafe is green and helps the environment by not using paper cups. But it was inconvenient because we couldn't bring any coffee back to our camp at Patricks Point and we didn't want to spend another extra $3-4 on using their mason jars. The only issue we had with this place was that the service was really slow and the line can get pretty long.

Because it's local, because it's a cool spot, because the food's yummy...why not?!  Love the bring-your-own-container takeout ... reminds me of Mexican joints we visited and bringing a pot for menudo to go!  We had the most amazing vegetable-curry-lentil-barley and other wonderfulness soup.  I spied lemonade in the fridge - and ordered in a to-go mason jar ($1 extra.)  The next day, we  arrived just before closing, 8:40pm on 4th of July Sunday - and they said no problem, just what would you like??!!  We had salad, bowl o'soup (under $7) with homemade baked bread and heavenly chocolate cake!  They were gracious welcoming and fun.  What more could we ask?  Oh, yeah, I used the $1 per 12 minute computer - did not bring the laptop, so they kept me connected to my tribe!  All good things in one stop.

I love the new decor.  This is a great place for lunch.  I enjoy the bean bowl which has two eggs, beans, cheese, tomato and onions all mixed together in a bowl.  It is filling and I can skip a meal after eating it.  I no longer drink coffee but did enjoy the English breakfast tea I had there.  Soups are always very good as well as deserts.

I agree with the last review, it is totally cool that they trust the customer to return their "loner mugs". But the coffee does sit in the thermos for a really long time so it doesn't taste very good. But where else in Trinidad are you gonna get bagels with lots of sweet stuff on top? Nowhere. They sell Los Bagels with cream cheese, and they have their own toppings that are creative and delicious. They serve dinner too, usually Mondays I believe, when everywhere else is closed. I had one really good dinner there. The other two times however, were really bad. I guess it's hit or miss on the dinners, depending on who's cooking. But I love the atmosphere. Everyone is really nice.

I love this place.  THey are amazing.  Perfect food, wonderful locals.  Rocky's dinners on Sundays and Mondays are hands down the BEST food Humboldt has to offer.  I live down the street and come here all the time.  My life wouldn't be complete without the Snooty Hippie or Condescending Vegan.  OR the eggy bagel but I get it on toast instead of a bagel.  Also they pretty much make the most delicious tuna salad you will ever taste.  The ladies rock.  Nothing in Trinidad compares to Beachcomber.   I'm almost afraid to put the word out because I don't want to wait in line for my food!!!
