best sandwiches in sac hands down. they pile on the meat and avocado, horseradish and such with really fresh produce and bread, it's all in all a great sandwich. delicious.

that was the good. the bad? i order "very light mayonnaise" because i don't really like it, "extra mustard" what have you- and the person ringing you up nodds and punches it into the register- you pay ($13 or so for a large, which can feed 2 people, it's big) and.... they really put a average amount of mayo on it.  i should ask for none at all but, if u ask for "light this" or "extra that".... you don't really get results; they are the sandwich artists & they know what's best is the sense i get.  they put SO much damn lettuce on my surfin' bird, and i say "very light lettuce, please", and low & behold, there's still a huge handfull of shredded lettuce on it- the only option is to either order no lettuce at all, or for me to pick it off myself.  =\   if you're grabbing takeout, call it in or you could sit there waiting for it for 20 minutes.

This place isn't what it used to be. That can be a good or a bad thing to some, but I used to really enjoy hanging out here when it was under previous ownership. Good times.

In the present day, however, you can still get the same exact sandwiches that are awesome....right up until the day you've had one too many and never want to see another one again. But hey, you can still get a litre of COLD Eye of the Hawk for a good price, and you can bet your boots that one of those will turn any frown upside down, if not sideways.

Let's talk about nachos for a second. Beach Hut Deli offers a mountain of their popular Marley Nachos, loaded with all kinds of good crap like avocados, bacon, and assorted veggies and cheeses. This, as a meal, is great. However I don't consider them to be authentic nachos. I prefer that they be called Party Time Chips. I think they are good though, really.

The staff is ehhh, hard to say, because they are ever changing. The last time I was there though, the guy with the lip ring who was pouring the beer was a complete ding bat; super slow, very frustrating. I'd turn right back around if I walked in and he was working.

BEACH SLUT!!! Pretty good sandwiches, cheap beer, slutty chicks.
I feel like this was once the spot like 4 years ago but has now been horribly exploited as a "spot" so now the only crowd is kind of mostly made up of underaged hipster dolls or washed up yuppies? That's a gross generalization and I don't mean to offend anyone (I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin' *wink*)

Either way, the sandwiches really are pretty good especially the veggie sandwiches and the patio can be a chill place to have a beer or two with a friend. Try it.

These sandwiches are very yummy. On Sandwiches alone I'd give em 4 stars.

But, everyone in my office refers to it as 'bitch' hut. :} The girls are pretty but their  snotty attitude is laughable. I prefer normal looking people if it means that they smile and say hello to you.

Great breads!!!!! The roll on the Spicolli is soooo soft and delicious, and the sliced bread on the Malibu has mucho garlic- there was even a whole clove in one of the slices!!!

Ambiance was more enjoyable at the West Sac location, but still good ol' Beach Hut.

The sandwich that made me fall in love with this institution is without a doubt, the malibu.  It is basically a sandwich made of love. Or sex. Something delicious like that.  It has this really amazing garlic cheese bread (with actual garlic cloves in it) with hot pastrami, cheese, a BUNCH of avocado and some kind of other sauce which I'm not sure about. When I first moved here, I remember calling my best friend from home to tell him I found the new sandwich of my life. Not sure why it has taken me so long to review this place...

I've tried a couple others that I like.. The meatball sandwich is yummy too, standard meatballs and marinara, but there are like 3 or 4 different cheeses with onions and peppers. I only order that sandwich when I am starving, or eating by myself because it is super messy.

I've tried the pig kahuna, which isn't quite to my liking because I feel like they use too much BBQ sauce, but that might be a personal thing. Otherwise, it is really good.

The beach BBQ sandwich has the perfect amount of BBQ sauce though.  I didn't actually order it, I took a few bites of my boyfriend's meal. I decided though, that its the one I'm ordering next.

As much as I love the food here, I always order to-go. This yummy sandwich making mecca is undoubtedly established by bros. This is a place made for bros, by bros. Even the girls who work here are heavily influenced by this bro-movement and therefore titled "bro-hoes". Not necessarily saying they are hoes, but it rhymes the best and the name sticks.  I mean, I love them, they make bomb sandwiches. So I'm not trying to talk smack..

But maybe the bros are on to something here...

The good: The food here is awesome! Easily the best sandwiches. The ingredients are fresh, they have several options available, and they don't skimp out on the meat.

The bad: What's up with all the Hipster douchebags that hang out infront of the place? we went to Chicago fire the other night, and were forced to walk into a douchey dangerzone filled with skinny jeans, cigerette smoke, and greasy looking kids trying DESPERATELY hard to be ironic and trendy.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other Beach Hut Deli's around, and I would suggest you gravitate towards them.

I have only eaten here a handful of times and I can say the sandwiches are big, fully loaded and a bit pricey.  I ate the Beach BBQ sandwich at the Watt and Fair Oaks site, across the street from our mortgage lender in the car and was covered in BBQ sauce, the day my husband and I signed the papers for our house in Oak Park.  Recently I came through the Sacramento Midtown site, with a pub crawl and enjoyed a $ .99 Eye of the Hawk, WTH?!  I also realized that midtown Beach Hut has an amazing patio.

I wish I was cooler so I could eat here more often-- because the sammies are really tasty!  Food's fast, good portion sammies, and great beer selection for a little sammich shop.  Cute little college girls working the desk and crazy lounging 20-somethings drinking beer outside at pretty much- all hours of the day during both weekdays and weekends.

Makes me sorry I have a job.

Beach Hut Deli has the best sandwiches around. ive eaten there only twice, but both times the food was very good, although i can not remember what i ordered. the sandwiches are named after beach themes.)

the restaurant is clean, it seems like most people eat on the patio. the inside is very small and clean, it looks a lot like i would imagine a beach hut to look like including grassy thatch as ornamentation but they keep it all very clean.

the counter helpers were very patient with me as i ordered. the menu is large-ish and the menuboard itself is descriptive. the sandwiches were very big and well made, they dont skimp on the meat or cheese.

there is smoking allowed on the patio, so this is where most of the young-uns hang out. the crowd seemed very "skater with money". theres usually a line of tricked out bikes worth seeing too.

Did I mention that I love the beach? So when I stroll in, I feel right at home. Like I've just spent the morning at PacB. and I'm running down to the corner sandwich shop to grab a bite before I head back. Ohhh, SoCal. I miss your sunny winter days.

Anyway, I'm kinda nursing a school girl crush on the lovely blonde amazon behind the counter. She is 10 kinds of gorgeous. These ladies are so friendly and sweet. It's funny that I have to stand on tiptoe at the counter just to place my order. Beach Hut has amazing sandwiches. I can't believe I'm admitting that.

The menu items have cutesy names (Surfin Bird, Beach Comber, The Spicolli, etc.) and some come with uncommon ingredients such as alfalfa sprouts, cream cheese, and sunflower seeds. All sandwiches include mayo, mustard, dill pickles, tomatoes, red onions (yes!), lettuce, greek peppers and cheese. Choice of breads: Sweet French Roll, Wheat Roll, Dutch Crunch Roll (awesome!) and Sliced Garlic Cheese Sourdough (double awesome!). A Small sandwich is actually a large. I can only finish half. And then greedily hide my other half from my husband.

    I'm a fan of:

Surfin Bird (Turkey, Avo, bacon, cr cheese)
California (Avo, Monterey Jack, alfalfa sprouts)
The Drakester (Hot Turkey, melted pepper jack, cr cheese, roasted chili peppers, lite mayo on toasted garlic sourdough cheese bread)
Beach Bikini (Turkey, cr cheese, cranberry sauce, sunflower seeds, alfalfa sprouts and mayo on sliced wheat)

The ingredients and toppings are packed high and mighty into the bread rolls. It's quite a site to see. Makes me reminisce of Bud's Buffet, but not in that scary way of thinking "Oh my gosh, how am I going to fit that into my mouth?"

On a sunny day, the patio is an ideal place to people watch, guzzle a few cold beers, and enjoy hanging out with the guys.

    Two words: Marley Nachos!
Share them with a friend when you are feeling gluttonous.

Wash your nachos down with a good, large beer at a nice price, and hang out on the patio outside.

It's also frickin cheap! I mean only $7 for the the enormous amount they give you is a steal...it's way better than any chain sandwich restaurant. I always come here when I visit Sacramento.

I havent eaten the food here since my massive food poisoning incident at the Granite Bay location (3 days of hell! shaking fist), however I still love the surf n skate decor, RAD choice of tunes that are always blasting, and the cold brewskie selection. Tall boys of PBR?? Yes please!

Midtown's location has a fantastic front patio to post up on, and in the summertime it is LEGIT. Just grab a beer or two, camp out at a table, and watch the random creatures of midtown walk by on J.

**BEST... turkey sandwich in Sacramento (Surfin' Bird w/ everything!)**

The Surfin' Bird is the ultimate sandwich.  The best is to add peperoncini's and squish in a few chips for some added spice and crunch.  Yum!  Throw in a sunny afternoon on the outdoor patio and a icy cold beer and this is definitely a lunch hot spot.

Came here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with a group of 8 peeps (FALL 08, FALL 08!). The sun was shining, a small breeze was blowing, leaves were falling... it was amazing Fall weather. We sat outside, ate our sandwiches (could've had some beers but didn't), and felt like we were in Hawaii.

The restaurant is decorated to look like a, duh, beach hut. A little tacky, but it was a cute tacky, yaknowwhatimean? It provided delightful atmosphere to compliment yummy sandwiches.

Huge selection of hot and cold sandwiches and had a nacho menu as well (nachos were humongous and overflowing with toppings). I got the pastrami on garlic toast (with avocado and everything else on it) and it was pretty good. A little oily, really large (for the smallest size!), and tasty. My friend was super hungry and decided to get a larger size (I think the 9inch), but that turned out to be a mistake because it was so huge she could not even finish! Don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach, kids.

Awesome place to just hang out in a large group. With a pitcher(s) of beer.

Best sandos in Sac!  Love everything about it: the chill atmosphere, the adult beverage options, big fountain drinks, huge chip and cookie selection, the hot girls behind the counter, buck hunt, (I'm starting to sound like a dude) and, of course, the amazingly delicious sandwiches!

I get the Surfin' Bird every time, I can't resist: soft, fresh-baked bread, tons o' turkey, avo, cream cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce, onions, mayo, mustard (i get mine w/o tomatoes) and, my favorite, peperoncinis!  Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom!

I take my friends and fam here and they all love it - I also like the outdoor patio so I can bring my dog.  This place is kowabunga, dude.

This is my 2nd time to Beach Hut (first one was in Roseville) but we were walking around Midtown and he had never been so we stopped by. I got the Surfin' Bird again (it's turkey LOADED with goodness, like bacon, avacado and cream cheese) and he got a BBQ Chicken (IDK the exact name of it) but again, was completely satified. We shared a drink and chips.. we both walked out with 1/2 our sandwich left (we stopped in for lunch... didn't realize we wouldn't finish our SMALL sandwiches!)

You get a good sized sandwich for a great price and it's always fresh. The girls working today were very friendly.

It was a great day so we wanted to sit outside, but after standing in line, the tables were all gone, so we sat in a booth inside. My boyfriend loved the music they had playing.

The decor is great --makes me miss the ocean!

We definitely kept this as a "footprint" on our phones and we will return!

I love the sandwiches and Beach Hut Deli and was hoping the service here would be different, but it wasn't.  As every single other location the service is S L O W.  I spend about 1/2 hour getting my food and the other 1/2 eating it.  Sometimes it takes 45 minutes if it's busy ... -_-.  I understand it's busy, but c'mon now.  You need to think of a way to make things go faster when you have a lunch rush going on.

I like this location because it allows you to sit outside and enjoy the downtown area, but other then that it's just like every other location.  Oh, in case you were wondering, I get the Surfin' Cow, cold  and the Marley nachos.  Yumm!

PS: Also, a pitcher of beer is always a plus to enjoy with your sandwich and nachos while sitting outside here.

Beach Hut was the highlight of my Dad's visit to California, and for that I am eternally grateful!

The reggae music hits your ears before the hut is within eyeshot, and so the Bob Marley intoxication begins.

The sandwich makers are always friendly and the sandwiches themselves are great and huge.  The chicken sandwich with cheese wasn't amazing (now that I think about it, their hot sandwiches weren't my favorite) but something about that avocado, turkey, and bacon took me to another level of deli delight.

I assure you, Chips only enhance the experience.

Delicious and huge sandwiches (even the smalls are too much for me to eat). The staff is friendly and the place has a cool vibe with surfboard tables in private booths as well as a nice little outdoor area. They have beer on tap and in bottles and it's always a fun place to hang out. Every time I walk by I run into some of the locals and get suckered in to hanging out on the patio for far too long it seems. You can bring your dog there (outdoor patio only), but you just have to keep them on the leash.

The only reason I had to give 4 stars instead of 5 is because there are only two veggie options so I get kind of sick of eating the same two sandwiches.

Oh, Beach Hut. I have such a love-hate relationship with you. I mean where else can you find patrons that are such an eclectic mixture of bros, brahs, bro-hoes, and hipsters? The folks behind the counter range from cool and collected to can't-see-out-my-bloodshot-eyes. Gotta love that variety.

You're juicy, over-filled sandwiches make me keep coming back for more.  You remind me of Togo's back in the golden years when they still actually put stuff in their sandwiches. I always get the same thing... Surfin' Bird with no cheese and no mayo. Thanks for being so accommodating of my bizarre changes.

For now I'll keep getting food to go so I don't have to sit amidst the drunken masses out front. Still, kudos to you, Beach Hut, for offering an alternative to daytime bar drinking.

Love me some Beach Hut. Good sandwiches, good friends, good times. PBR and Miller High Life in a 'tall boy'...am I in heaven?.  I recommend the surfing bird, on cheesy bread, yum.  Just wish they were open later (8 PM close on Friday and Saturday really...off I go to Togo's then :P).

It seems like Beach Hut is EVERYWHERE now, even up in Tahoe (handy since my in-laws live there).  I just hope it stays a cool place to eat and hang out with friends (though I could do without some of the 'hipper than thou' people that hang out there sometimes...you know the ones that were too cool for school and are now pissed off that they have to work at the gas station).

Where do I start? The employees talking about correcting 'health code violations' before the end of the day. Or the fact there was no A/C and it was at least 90 degrees in the restaurant. The service was painfully slow and the place is very run down and dingy. The sandwich was better than Subway or Togo's, but nothing special.

I would be willing to maybe try another location, but this one is gross. Me thinks not!

I actually think that Beach Hut, and pretty much every location I go to, make a solid 4 star sandwich.  I love the cream cheese on everything and the nachos there are some of the best in Sacramento...

Ok so now that I got the good stuff out of the way; two complaints...

    1)  The sandwiches are hard to eat.  Listen.  I am a fancy gentleman and I can't be gettin cream cheese all up in my bizness.  Besides, I know I sound like a total lady boy about this but it has to do with the way they cut their bread to make the sandwich.  You go to Sandwich Spot and those sandwiches while messy will stay together.  Why do the sandwiches stay together better?  Magic.  That's why.

    2)  The People.  When I was in college, Sundays during the football offseason at Beach Hut Midtown were almost a guarantee for me.  5 or 6 of my friends, huge sandwiches and dollar Coors Light's to cure the hangover.  You see, Beach Hut is a lot like Wooderson from Dazed and Confused except with the famous quote turned on its head.  The people going there get older but keep acting the same age.  That and I am convinced that no one behind the counter is older than 15 and that makes me feel pretty old...

Listen Bro, I am not judging your lifestyle choice for being 35, riding a bike around midtown and getting afternoon drunk.  It just isn't my lifestyle choice.

I've never gone there for lunch during M-F 9-5 business hours but I always see a lot of suits there when I drive by so maybe its different during the week.

All that being said, I really do like their sandwiches in my face.

Went here on 2/4/11 Friday for lunch.
I got the BBQ sandwich small.
It was quite the amount for a small.
Bread was awesome, meat was ok, bbq sauce a bit tangy.
Too bad no lunch specials didn't walk out of there without spending less than $10.
Girls at the counter and their "uniforms" are almost in your face, so that could be a good thing for some.

I'd like to go back and try some of their other sandwiches, but in this economy may have to to wait for some specials.

One love. Rastafarian-meets-surfin' dude, zen religion. Lost your faith?  Find it here at Beach Hut.

In fact, forgive me, baby Jesus because I just had a near out of body experience with the Surfin' Cow sandwich (roast beef, cheese AND cream cheese, avocado, onion ... ok, everything on it.) I had it hot and small. It was pure deliverance. I was starving and I still have half left over. I'm talking it with me to heaven, so there.

There was so much freakin' love and attention put into that damn sandwich, I actually felt bad eating it. OK, not that bad. Catholic guilt. I just confessed some sins, said a few Hail Mary's and got the heck over it.

The people here must subscribe to humanist religion 'cause they are seriously dope. Can I say "dope" in a yelp review? In one that talks about religion? Eekers. But seriously, they were the nicest ever! The guy taking my order suggested I have a beer. How can he read my mind like that?? Straight magic, that's how.

(And the seasonal beer he suggested, Hawktober, was good ... and only $1. Yeah, that's right. One buck.)

Things you may not know ... these are things you can order that you won't find on the menu.

You can order any sandwich on the menu veggie style -- avocado takes the place of the meat.

Ghetto Bruschetta ... haven't had it but I'm throwin' gang signs (only the good ones) in its favor.

    Pizza pockets

Ring of Fire -- don't know what this is, but I'm guessing it's hot!

I am pretty sure this place is somewhere in a lost chapter in Dante's Inferno.  I was not sure if I was in a Blink 182 video or whether I had time warped back to UCSB circa 1997 when I wanted to barf everytime anyone opened their mouth to speak.

"Duuuudddde... helza downtown kids up in this place.  It is going to go off in such a major way this afternoon.  Whoooooo-hoooooo.  Yeah bitches".

Imagine hearing things like this from your choice of wonderfully decorated stentors all around each time you try to bite into your sandwich.

I actually had the pleasure of getting a full show from sacramento's finest pretend UCSB students while waiting for my sandwich to be made correctly, after coincidentally getting a sandwich that was not what I actually ordered.  I guess it is really hard to attend to sandwiches when there are so many helza hot dudes with hot ass tattoos and super hot square-billed hats to attend to all day.

    Barf.

For me, the coolest thing about Beach Hut is the laid back atmosphere that comes along with the tasty sandwiches.  Those of us that frequent this delectable gem probably don't remember the first time we noticed that our food was served to us on a Frisbee, or the first time we noticed the modified Corona bottles / salt & pepper shakers, or the surfboards, or the artwork, and so on.

For those that haven't yet tried Beach Hut out, I suggest bringing a big appetite and about $15 with you.  Besides sandwiches (in several flavor combinations for any palette), they have hot dogs, nachos, and other assorted treats.  Additionally, I've yet to have to order a sandwich larger than a small to satisfy my hunger.  They pile on the meat and cheese like no other, and their veggies are always fresh and crisp.

For those that like a bit of hops with their food, they have a great selection on-tap, and even a few hard ciders.

The only downside is trying to find parking.  Sometimes I'm not shopping the area and I just want to stop in for a bite.  Finding a place to park in the late afternoon / early evening is sometimes difficult, and you can forget about it on Second Saturday.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the place to go for an excellent meal. good service, and a good time, for not a lot of moolah.
