We've stayed at the Beach House several times.

What we liked about staying at this place is that it's really close to the pier and it's close to the bars.  It's so close that you really don't have to worry about getting wasted and driving home, you can get a room here, get wasted at one of the bars and walk back to the hotel.  It's less than a five minute walk from the strip with restaurants, bars and the beach.

Aside from the distance to the bars, this place is actually really cool.  The rooms that we have stayed in have a studio setting.  I make it sound small when I say that, but it's really pretty roomy.  There's a space for the bed, a little sitting area with a writing table and a television.  They've also got a little living room with a bigger television and a nice surround sound system, and somewhere in the middle is a little kitchen with a microwave, a refrigerator, and some cooking equipment.  It's practical and it's really good for the price.

The decor is nice.  Nothing too outrageous, but because it's by the beach, they stick with the beach theme.  The white linens, the sand colored carpet, some decor that lets you know that you're by the beach.  It's quite comfy.  A plus is that they've got a balcony that over looks the ocean.  It's really romantic at night, but the noise from the bars that surround the hotel can get annoying.

I love staying at this place and will come back here several times.  It's comfy and luxiourious and it's not very expensive.

The first time I stayed here was in the summer several years ago and I'm thinking "why did they put a fire place in here?". Continuous travel to the area in the winter was required for it to make sense.

I love this little hotel. It's romantic and has a an ocean view, if you talk your way into this. Having a cute little kitchen is nice, but as a business traveler, I never used this. Plus, The Good Stuff is next door and I defy anyone to find a better Hermosa Beach breakfast spot!

I clearly remember the first morning I stayed here. I woke up early for meetings, peered out, and there were probably 100 people on the Beach! They were playing volleyball, some were surfing, many were walking and running down the Strand. This was shocking as I had been staying in the MDR at a Marriott and barely saw people.

The only reason I don't 5 star this Hotel is: It's not a full service Fairmont-like hotel with amenities, yet it costs the same. This is more like staying in a condo, but a refreshing breath of fresh air for the discriminating business traveler sick of Marriott and Starwood properties.

Last, the Aveda is incredible! In fact, these folks got me addicted to the Aveda products!

It's not a cheap place even with a discount and given the neighboring pier it seems a little out of place.  It's a little ritzier than the surrounding establishments.  It's a nice hotel, the rooms are very well outfitted and very comfortable and the maids did a great job making it feel like we were the first people to stay in the rooms.

There is a stocked kitchen as well, with a burner, kettle, microwave, etc.  A fireplace, two flat screens (although they weren't in HD), and the most complete set of Aveda toilitries I've seen anywhere-they even provide Aveda face wash.

My home away from home! :D

So my friend's dad owns one of the hotel rooms, so we try to go as much as possible! No joke I love this place, I don't know what I use to do without it?

So there are two parts to this hotel, the main one with the reception desk and the room where they serve breakfast in the mornings. We stay in the second building section across the way. It is nice on the third floor b/c they have a connection bridge that has chairs and tables, which is nice to sit on.

The valet is free if it is your room or $23 a night for those friends visiting. $16 for 2 1/2 hrs. Or you can park in the parking structure next door, or side parking etc etc.

The rooms are very comfy. Great bathroom, very big with a nice shower and great bathtub. Very big :D The bed is extremely comfortable. It is really hard to get out of bed in the mornings. They have two tvs. One in front of the bed, they have another in the two steps down to the "living room." Theres a table, tv, and pull out bed, which is pretty comfy, not too shabby. There is also a fridge, sink, microwave, stove, utensils, place to make coffee as well. All the needs. They also have a fire place, which is nice. They are also suppose to be making all the tvs flat screens soon. Also there is a balcony outside. They also have a radio/CD player which me and my girls blast when getting ready to go out, never really have problems with asking to turn it down. :D

They also have great movies that are still in theaters to rent on tv! It is very convienent how there are tons of restaurants within walking distance, a great pier. If you get a cab to manhatten beach, its very cheap. The nightlife is very fun! I suggest club sushi across the st., henneseys and ask to sit upstairs on a nice day out, mediterraneo is a relaxing place, sharkeez etc good place for sunday football. (refer to my reviews there).

Downfall is how expensive parking is, sometimes I have to pay depending if my friend brought her car or not. The keys have the tendency to stop working so we have to go to the desk and get new ones again. It is pretty expensive here, thank god I don't have to pay! LOL

The staff though is usally all very nice. So try it out and book when you can because these places fill up fast! Esp. in the summer time.

Make sure you are up by like 10 or so even earlier if you want to go get breakfast. They have bagels, coffee, tea, orange juice, toast, cereal.

So if you have the money go and try this place out for a nice relaxing weekend. You won't regret it!

God bless this place.

Seriously!

After traveling on a 767 crammed to the rim with the obnoxious people New Yorkers are stereotyped to be, I landed in LA stressed out to no end.

My stay at the Beach House though was the anecdote to work trip gone wild. What a beautiful hotel! The staff was beyond cordial and had a great sense of humor (especially about my penchant for taking multiple cookies from the lobby.)

Additionally their recommendations for where to eat were spot on. The rooms were gorgeous, the location (literally steps from beach) was perfect.

Best description I could think of is that the Beach House is a less stuffy version of Shutters in Santa Monica.

I will definitely be back!

what works for this place is exactly what works against it.

first of all, the prices reflect the location but even then it's over priced since this isn't even malibu and even then you'd find far more affordable prices (granted not as nice) at places in malibu.

second, the place is nice. it's well kept, the rooms are well stocked and have excellent furniture and views. everything is within walking distance. the right room gives you the right view to the beach every day you wake up.

but here is the downside, BECAUSE everything is so close to this place, there is the noise factor at night. it's loud. cars are coming and going from parties, drunken people are walking the streets and what peace you could've had is immediately gone. same thing for the mornings. everyone is leaving or arriving at the beach and all the noise competes with the soothing sound of the ocean.

it's worth trying of course, but just keep these points in minds, and if you these issues really don't bother you that much, then you're all good.

The Beach House is a nice hotel to stay in while you're in Hermosa Beach.  It's an intimate waterfront hotel, on the strand, with all of the shops, restaurants, and bars/clubs.  The rooms are nice, but aren't all that big.  It has a living room with an entertainment unit.  Also there's a fridge and a microwave for your convenience.  The mini-kitchen has plates, glasses and utensils as well.  You can sit out on the balcony to watch the waves, the sun, and the people while you drink your coffee and/or your alcoholic beverage.  The bathroom comes with a nice soaking tub, large enough for two people.  I'd give it 5 stars, but I haven't expereinced all of their amenities such as the gym and room service.

1. On the beach!
2. Complete with stereo, mini stove, microwave, fridge, flatscreen.
3. You can see the water from your room.
4. Huge bathrooms, seperate bathtub and shower.
5. Fireplace..
6. You can walk to all the restaurants and bars in like 1 min
7. We had on loud music, and girls yelling close to 2am and didn't hear one complaint!

Loved it, now if only I could afford to go back sometime! It was amazing!

Awesome location. It's so close the beach and the nite life, that all night we heard people barfing outside our room and the AM surfers getting ready to hit the waves. But that did not bother us much at all. We loved the place, and the staff, esp the valets, were all super friendly and beach authentic.

The conti breakfast is quite satisfactory, so much so, that we did not even head out to all the great breakfast places very much nearby. The rooms are quite clean, great linens, Aveda shampoo/soap, all good stuff.

We will definitely visit and stay here again. If you get the oceanfront view, you are in Nirvana.

Yes and our bathroom had the rubber ducky!

The bad: room had water spotted ceiling and broken blinds.

The good: everything else!  Free delicious hot cider and holiday cookies in the lobby.  Kind staff, awesome room!!  They really did a great job with this place.  Luxurious linens and huge tub, separate from shower.  Huge fireplace made it cozy, and an ingenious kitchenette makes it easy to put the kettle on or reheat leftovers.  High ceilings give the room an airy feel.  Great complimentary breakfast.  Cheese filled pastries, Odwalla fresh squeezed OJ, hot coffee, cold cereal and fruit with a view of the ocean, what more could you want?

Can't beat the location, right on the beach and next to Pier Ave.

Manager Jerry was super nice.  I would advise anyone looking for a weekend getaway to try this place out.  Shell out the extra $100 and treat yourself!

I definitely recommend this place, but I'd like to highlight a few extras that I think weren't covered yet by previous posts, and also to comment on one of the more common "complains".

Came here for my birthday with friends recently and it was a vacation alright. How can you not when you're in a lively, lovely beach town, staying in an equally lovely hotel right on the strand? I felt 10,000 miles away before I even completed my check-in! And this is the first of those "extras" I'd like to point out. We'd booked a partial oceanview room and without asking, they upgraded us to a full oceanview, facing the strand. I was delighted! At upwards of $300, granted it wasn't cheap, but still, an upgrade is an upgrade, and if a hotel has the available rooms, it's always a nice gesture and sure makes guests happy. This one was! A brownie point for that.

The complimentary breakfast was adequate. Decent selection of continental fare. So-so coffee (I'm a coffee snob, so if I don't condemn it, all is good). I love their morning yoga on the beach. Well, I should say I love the CONCEPT of it. Though the mind is willing... it's a different story getting up that early during a vacation to make it to the yoga.

And now, to address one of the common complains - the noise factor due to the beachfront location. I was in a room, on the first floor, directly facing the strand. I mean, sure, when you're on the balcony, it's noisy. But once you close the door, the scene outside magically disappears. I was amazed at how soundproof the place was, so I don't understand why folks would complain about the noise. Just close the balcony door, right? And when you feel like participating in the beach scene, just get out to the balcony and allow vacation to creep into your veins, all while comfortably tucked away in your own little balcony. There's nothing like a lazy morning hanging out in the balcony, in your bathrobe, with coffee and blueberry muffins as your friends, and people watching. I have to say, the people watching aspect is the BEST part of being right on the strand. It's amusing, to say the least. My friends and I enjoyed that immensely. You'll be surprised at the variety of conversations you'll find yourself involuntarily a part of as people chat and waltz past your balcony on bikes, skates, or legs! My favorite are the crib pushing-marathon training dads, going about their training while taking care of their little ones at the same time! The ones I saw got their act down to an art. Genius. Another brownie point for that!

I did, however, wish that they had a pool, a hot tub facing the ocean (it's not the same being indoors versus out) and maybe a gym, but I'm just being picky now.

Oh yes, and they do have Aveda products. Just awesome!

A final note - As I was leaving, I found out that they actually have a unit for sale at $725,000. They call it the condotel (condo-hotel), I think. Interesting. At about 450 sq ft, it's expensive, but you get to be on vacation everyday, I guess. I wonder if the sale of this includes free daily breakfast. Now, that would be sweet...

Came here for a friends bday.  Paid about 230/night...cheap for a weekend...they offer triple a discount.  I would have to say that it did not live up to my expectations, but it was not bad.  We stayed in a partial view room in the back building, the room was not very big...it felt a bit cramped...then again there were four of us, but still.  From what i understand all the rooms are the same...one king size bed and a queen size sleeper sofa.  The bed was nice and comfy, but my friend and I got the sofa which was sooo not comfortable compared to the bed.  Even though we where in the back building, floor level we still had a decent view, so that was good:)
The bath tub is huge, seperate shower, aveda amenities...I would give the bathroom 5 stars.
There is a refridgerator and a microwave....the fridge is small but big enough to hold the essentials...even if you want to make jell-o shots;)
The breakfast is free, it's very simple, but high quality...and you get to eat by the boardwalk.  Also, everything (shops, mini market, restaurants, nightlife, and a fantastic comedy club) is within walking distance.
The negatives:  parking is $23/day (the same lot, if you park it on your own from the other side only costs $16/day...if you leave it there.
They were doing construction at 9 am in the room next door...on a Saturday morning....talk about relaxation killer...that was the main reason I gave this place a three.
Oh, and they advertise on the toilet paper roll about picking up a nice luxurious beach towel at the front desk so that you don't use the bath towels....their beach towel was even crappier than my old disney Esmeralda towel!
My experience here could of been soo much better if they would of paid attention to some small, but very important details.
I would think about coming again, but not with four girls....I would recommend this place for couples or families with young kids and get the full view.  Otherwise it's not worth it.

mmmmm....The Beach House. Good memories.

Situated right on the Strand in Hermosa Beach, the Beach House offers ocean views and beautiful rooms that you won't want to leave.

The rooms are almost like little studio apartments. They come with huge fluffy beds (down everything, so soft!), a big TV with DVD player. Another TV right by the Bed, a stereo system, and a huge bathroom with Aveda amenities.

This hotel really fosters romance and relaxation. It isn't inexpensive, but it is worth it.

I did deduct one star because on weekend nights the area is a big party area. There were some loud people on the street. Luckily we were in the mood to laugh at them, but I could see how it could really annoy somebody else. We couldn't really hear any of the noise from the room tho, only from the balcony.

The best hotel in Hermosa Beach, hands down.  The hotel is less then a minute walk from Pier Ave and the strand; it is even closer to the beach.  I stayed in a partial ocean view on the third floor which was an awesome room.  The room had a tiny kitchen including a two burner stove, fridge, utensils, etc.  The room also had a great little fireplace located right next to the patio.  Although the hotel did not provide any logs, you can always goto Robert's Liquor on Pier Ave and buy a duraflame.  The only annoying thing I found out, the parking was not included with my room, so that was another $23 bucks a day added to the tab.  I did have a nice AAA discount when I booked online, which they never asked for upon check in.  With all said, I would come back and stay again and again.

Surprised my husband with a night  at this hotel after having dinner and clubbing at Sangria on the pier.  He was pleasantly surprised.  We invited our friends back to the room for a little after party.  They seemed impressed with the hotel and room.  View was so-so because we were on the bottom floor and there was a lifeguard tower pulled right in front of our room -- blocking our nice ocean view. Large tub was nice and bed was comfy.  Price was too high.

When I lived in Hermosa Beach this was a big ole dirt lot...but lookie what sprung up...a super cool hotel RIGHT ON THE STRAND!

But be warned...it can be noisy if you have a room with a view of the Strand.  Since this little luxury establishment is a block or two off Pier Avenue -- home of restaurants, bars with live music and other dens of debauchery -- well really, you think you aren't going to hear some noise after the bars close down at 2am?  DUH!

I guess if you want peace and quiet, you could select a room towards the back -- still lux accommodations -- and you won't be disappointed with the valet parking or service by hotel staff.

I'll be back...unless I grow attached to The Beach House at Half Moon Bay...which is a little closer to home!

The Beach House is a great location on the strand, right at the Hermosa Pier.  Great views from the building right on the strand.  But not cheap ...

The room is done in a tier fashion.  You enter into the front door, and can see thru the room and out to the beach.  The first section of the room (after the bathroom) is the are with the bed, which is a great big fluffy one.  There is also a desk as well.  You go down a couple of steps, and there is a living room setting with a nice couch, a couple of chairs, fireplace and TV (and DVD).  There is a patio with chairs on the balcony.

For food, they do a breakfast in the morning, or have room service from Good Stuff and a number of other restaurants in the area.

We agree heartily with what others have already written.
Yes, it's expensive but how many hotels are ON a beach?!
Unmentioned surprises include a generous continental breakfast with seating on the Strand (boardwalk) and a small, clean gym with cardio and weight machines as well as a Jacuzzi.
The only negative was the noise level, both late at night and early in the morning from partiers and surfers/skaters, respectively.
We'll be back!

The Beach House is one of those rare finds that you come across only occassionally. Beautiful simple design throughout that is neither ostentatious nor cookie-cutter boring. The Beach House has amazing rooms that are incredibly comfortable with great amenities like a complete stereo system (not some wimpy portable here), a comfortable couch, jacuzzi size bathtub and an in-room fireplace. Their definition of "partial beach view" is a bit of a stretch when your room is ground level on a street with cars parked directly in front of your window but the perfect facilities quickly made up for that. I'm sure all the locals know about this hotel but I was glad I stumbled across this gem in time for a relaxing day at the beach.

I stayed at the Beach House over Labor Day Weekend (2007).  I used to live in Hermosa Beach up until about a year ago, so I was familiar with the hotel.  It is a great place (rooms are good size with separate living room and beautiful views of the ocean).  Nice big balconies, too.  The only downside is the price -- my room averaged something like $350+ per night (Fri - Sun).  But, there is no place in Hermosa that even comes close in terms of quality.  The only other comparable hotel close by is Shade in Manhattan Beach, but it is about five blocks off the beach.

We stayed here twice in 2007. I love the location, it's GREAT. How can you go wrong when it's right across from the beach? At least for me, i prefer being here compared to santa monica. It's more quiet and laid back. i love biking on the strand.

The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is that it needs updating!  It's geting tired.  We need to see a flat screen tv and a more modern look.  It is a great place for a romantic weekend though.
