10 reviews for BD's Mongolian BBQ
Three words: raw meat bar. You can make a squid (ahem, "calamari") burrito if you want, which I did and wouldn't recommend. It tasted fine, but who wants to get to the business end of a burrito and find a tentacle waving in your face? That's the last time I try to impress my four-year-old niece.
This is also the perfect place to go before a rock show in order to pack in valuable protein for the long, long night of drinking and smoking ahead of you.
This place is AWESOME. I live in CA now and WISH we had these out here. The Mongolian BBQ place here (Genghis Khan) sucks compared to BD's.
You make your own dinner buffet-style....get your own meat, veggies, oil, sauce, spices. Bring your bowl to the grillers and they cook it for you. On your table will be steamed rice, tortillas, soy, & hot sauce. If your dinner sucks, guess what....it's your fault, you made it! Go try another combo then.
The only bad part about this place is that it's usually busy, so expect to wait. Otherwise this place rocks. Also a good place to take a first date.
So the consensus is: if you don't like it here, you probably just picked the wrong ingredients. Should that matter? How about the fact i'm paying ten dollars to eat a bowl of soggy vegetables. That i had to stand in line to cook. I don't get the appeal. It's a nice place, nice crowd, nice bowls. But the quality of the food is really overrated. Oh, one time a friend found some glass shards in her food. Is that traditional Mongolian, or some Asian-Cedar Ave alleyway fusion thing?
This is my all time favorite restaurant. There is not one near me now so when I go home to Cleveland I insist on visiting. If you do not like the food here it is generally your fault because you pick out exactly what you want, put it in a bowl and the grillers make it for you. I have several different combinations I love and last time I was home they added some Italian options which made the whole experience even better. This is just a fun place to go.
I'd never been to Mongolian BBQ on Coventry, so went to lunch with the family, including two little kids. We were a midday, midweek walk-in, but I understand that at times there can be a rather long wait so it's best to call ahead for reservations.
This is a casual restaurant so there is no need to feel like you must dress up. That place has a very laid back atmosphere. The place well lit, multileveled and the focal point is the grill area.
Mongolian BBQ is a buffet, yet not your traditional buffet. After being seated and explained (for me) the concept and how the restaurant works, you place an order for a type of rice or tortilla/wrap, then are shows to the buffet area. The choices consist of wide array of meats, vegetables, sauces and spices. This allows you to create the meal you want. After you select your ingredients, you head the grill area and the "chefs" prepare you meal right in front of you. Once you get back to your table, your server will have brought your rice to the table.
I had no opinion of the quality of the items eaten, as they were stocking the buffet on occasion, the area appeared clean, well kept and at the appropriate room temperature.
Overall a good place for a quick lunch or family meal. I would also say this is not a date place, but more a place to meet friends before starting the evening.
It seems people go one way or the other for this place - I'm gonna have to say that I like this place. A lot. I've never had a bad experience here, except maybe a huge need for a nap after stuffing myself to the point of nearly being sick. The food here is amazing. If you say otherwise, you probably are putting together the wrong combinations, or have stupid taste buds.
Being in a popular location, they don't have to put much effort into getting good business. This is reflected in their cleanliness. I went to a BD's in Columbus that was EXCELLENT, this one however... Upon arrival the buffets looked like a ravenous kindergarten class had been through there. It was never once cleaned during my 90 minutes there. Every meat and seafood juice was all over the bar and ladel handles. Every ingredient was scattered into every other ingredient. The grill was never fully cleaned so each bowl came with a heavy helping of burnt leftovers from previous cooking. Finding a "clean" bowl at the buffet was a challenge as every other bowl was covered in food (bad dishwashing) thereby spoiling the bowls on top and below them. It took about 10 minutes for my stomach to start revolting against what I had done to it, and I spent the next 50 minutes of my drive home clenching my cheeks. If this review saves just one person from the agony I am enduring, then this review was worth writing.
Ugh. I went here, with a handful of other yelpers, on our first group outing, back in January.
I think my stomach finally stopped being upset yesterday.
Don't go here. Ever.
How is it that no one has reviewed this place yet?! Every time I come home to Ohio I have to go to Mongolian for shrimp, scallops, noodles, and veggies in black bean and peanut sauce.
Here's how it works:
You take a bowl up to a huge bar filled with various meats, fish, chicken, pork, noodles, and vegetables. You fill up your bowl with everything you want and move on to the sauces and spices. You can then mix and match any sauces and spices you want. Again, I go for the black bean and mix it with peanut. Add a dash of cayanne, garlic, ginger, or whatever and you're off to the grill.
The grill is a big circular contraption where grillers with long sticks cook your stir fry just the way you want it. There's also a salad bar and good soups and killer deserts (try the carmel apple sundae!).
This place is fun, the grillers are cool and do fun tricks with the sticks and shout when they get a tip and you hit a gong. What more could you want!?
Also, a great after dinner walk down to the Big Fun and a stop a Stricklands for frozen custard is a great way to end the evening.
Have I mentioned I love Mongolian BBQ?
ok, so it's a stirfry place where they cook it on a big ol' grill in the round.
and yeah, i've heard some people have not had the greatest experiences here during non-peak hours.
but i LOVE this place.
make what you want. if you suck as a recipe concoctor (yep, i just made that up) then go back and make another one.
fun. fun times.
