I really wanted to rate this place 4 stars based off the drink specials/size and the service but I always enjoy food during happy hour but this is not the place to do both. So I leave it at 3.5ish...
We went during happy hour (5-7). The drinks are huge (Texas size -20 oz), cheap -$5.99, and strong. For $1.50 more you can add another shot to your already strong drink. The waiter was super friendly and did recognize my friend as a regular. He gave us shots on the house which is always great.
I had the long island drink and after a while I did start getting hungry. My friends all had entrees so I decided to try a side of Mac & Cheese and cornbread. It was tiny and I bland. I think microwaved mac and cheese taste better.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 698439565Jan 16, 2013
Truthfully I don't even wanna tell you about this little spot because it is so clutch that I would hate for too many people to start coming here.BUT for the sake of yelping I will share.
This place is awesome! I don't think it's a legit BBQ like BBQ BBQ but man it does all the same stuff so it doesn't even matter!
I had a frozen Long Island Iced Tea. If you have learned nothing about me and alcohol please take this time out to understand that I like to get drunk QUICKLY and for cheap and if I can make that happen on something frozen even BETTER! Frozen is always better.
This place made all the things I love the most happen so easily. Seating was immediate. We sat at a nice little table towards the back. We noticed a lot of other young groups at tables as well. This must be the spot.
Our waitress was a doll. Very knowledgeable about the menu (Not like it's the most intense menu) and she was great with making suggestions. Super attentive and not in the slightest bit annoying.
I had a mexican salad. Guacamole. Corn. Fresh salad. Did I mention the jalapeño? Ugh. AMAZINGGG! It was delicious and I swallowed it up. I also tried some of my friends fries. Nice and crispy and seasoned to perfection. Good fries are hard to come by. These were def yummy.
Back to these frozen LITs. DELICIOUS! Didn't melt too quickly and along with the other frozen drink I had they were both good but this was by far my favorite. Maybe because I've never had a frozen Long Island this was so special to me. I was NICE after splitting the LIT and the other daiquiri I had. Cheap cheap cheap. The bill was pretty much nothing for the three of us. And we bought 5 delicious and strong drinks.
This is not the fanciest of spots and thats a-okay by me. Definitely some place I'll be stopping back in to.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 18, 2013
This review is based off of a single visit to BBQ. I used to go to the regular BBQ (non DALLAS kind) like 4 years ago and I loved it because the menu was pretty similar to Dallas' but much cheaper and I liked the different items on their menu too, they had one in soho and then it closed down. So when I found this one I was sooooo excited because I thought it was over for the (non DALLAS) BBQs lol.
Anyway, I went with a friend and of course I read the reviews before going; they had me nervous as hell! I wasn't sure what to order, I was nervous that I'd see a rat pop out; I thought the food might be nasty. But let me tell you, it was GREAT! I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken with fries and a frozen Long Island and blue Hawaii piña. My chicken was DELICIOUS!!!!!! There wasn't a piece of chicken left on those bones lol. Flavorful, juicy, hot, and perfectly crispy. I read the other reviews about the chicken and idk if I got lucky but I sure was happy. My fries were good, my drinks were strong, and all was well.
Our waiter was new and took FOREVERRRRRRR which was annoying but he was nice and I looked over that because he was new. He still took too damn long tho lol. We were there for like 3+ hours. I'd def go back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - La Toya L.Brooklyn, NY4002628Jun 21, 2014
Definitely the best kept secret of all the BBQs in town. If you enjoy Dallas BBQ's Texas Size drinks, Sticky or Henny Wings, Onion loaf etc. but can't deal with the decibel levels of most other BBQs...please do yourself a favor and come to this one.
There is a HAPPY HOUR where the full drink menu is discounted. We like to get pitchers upon pitchers of white sangria (pro tip: replace whatever liquor they suggest with VODKA), I enjoy the Frozen Strawberry Margherita with a sugared rim (!!!!)
Favorite plates are: Fried Shrimp platter with macaroni and cheese and greens, Sticky Wings, Chicken and Ribs combo, okay so basically everything on the menu.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1693710Sep 11, 2009First to Review
One star might be too harsh, but I have no desire to ever go back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I was actually going with a large group and we had made reservations (even confirmed the reservations the day before), but still had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated... and the place wasn't even busy or full? The wings were pretty mediocre, which is a bad sign for a bbq place.
The one four-star thing about BBQ was the corn bread loaf... it came out hot from the oven!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eugene K.New York, NY8235837Mar 17, 2011Updated review
It's amazing what can happen when you dine
sober.
The prices still look fantastic: a rack of baby back ribs for $10, that comes with a side of mash. $2 side of collard greens. $3 side of macncheese.
Then you realize why the prices are so under the table. The baby backs looked like babies and tasted like backs. The mash seemed really bland. Then again, if I was drunk, I probably would've known to add an obscene amount of salt. The things I do while sober. The collard greens were ok but I'm slowly starting to realize that is not a suitable vitamin-friendly veggie. Just sayin'.
Oh yea, and me being sober = only one pitcher of sangria.
$55 for 4 people isn't anything to complain about. I'm not crying or wetting my pants. I'm just sayin', I wish I didn't leave so hungry.
And geez, I went from two 5 star reviews to a 3 star. Dammmmmn, put the macaroni on my cheese.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Oct 18, 2010Previous reviewUmm, recent discovery this past Friday: $10 pitchers of sangria from 11AM-7PM. I don't know why or how I missed this but my life just got that much better.
I'm going to try and sneak these pitchers into work labeling it "Kool-Aid."
Wish me luck.May 10, 2010Previous reviewThis is the bootleg ripoff of Dallas BBQ but it's so much more better. They were originally on University, closed down, and finally relocated to a shady place by West 4th. Oh BBQ, how I missed thee.
BBQ isn't for everybody. It's dirt cheap yet plentiful with the portions. Where do I start: their early bird special: 1/4 of a chicken, cornbread, chicken soup and 1 small side for less than $6. Happy hour drinks are CRAZY here. $1.50 for additional shots. I can go on and on.
Here's my normal routine: start off with a large frozen margarita, 2 extra shots. Order a side of macncheese, a side of yam mashed potatoes (yummmm) and either the big chicken wings or the fried chicken. After you finish the margarita, you either reload and get the same exact or order a pitcher of beer, which i think is like $12? And of course you come with at least 2 others.
I've tried everything from their fried shrimp, their chicken wraps and their ribs. WHO THE HELL WOULD ORDER A FISH SANDWICH OR A SAMOSA FROM HERE? Go to McDonald's and get yourself a fish filet. You have to come here and get your fingers wet. that sounded nice.
But seriously, when you do come, you HAVE to get the mashed potatoes and macncheese. You will not be disappointed. I promise.
Imagine taking a first date here. If she's still with you afterwards, marry her. - 177653164Jan 5, 2010
Fish sandwich is GROSS. Never get it, I am not sure if it was spoiled or stale but it was the worst thing I have ever got from a bbq restaurant. I will never go back here~!
Also compared to the other chain they have on 2nd ave, I much prefer to go there for just the company of others. This place seemed really quiet and family oriented I guess? I was not expecting that when I first entered.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Randy H.Albertson, NY687222890Apr 10, 2013
How do they do it? Amazing BBQ...fast!!!
I'm talking light speed here.
I stopped by for lunch today with a couple of co-workers. Lunch hour always seems to fly by so fast so I was very impressed with the service.
The menu has decent BBQ fare at very competitive prices. I ordered the Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs off the BBQ Platters menu and it was only $10.99 including fresh corn bread and fries. That's a great deal!
All of their platters come with corn bread and your choice of French fries, baked potato, rice, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes or cole slaw.
So when the waitress took our order she told us they'd be out in 5-minutes. Really, 5-minutes? ...she was right! This was unbelievable. I realize the food was already prepped but the food came out faster than a diner. Even more impressive was the fact that this food was good, really good.
The ribs were slathered with sauce (appropriately) and tasted delicious. My coworker opted for the pulled pork sandwich ($5.99) and was equally impressed. I've also had the wings here on an earlier trip, they make a great appetizer. Go for the Spicy Big Wings 5 for $7.99.
Now, are you ready for the best part, let's talk Happy Hour Specials. From Noon to 7pm. Draft 12oz. domestic beers only $3.00! 20oz. Texas size beers $4.50! Oh baby. Margaritas are $3.00 (Texas size 20oz. 'ritas are $5.99)
This place is easily one of my new favorite stops in town. If you don't have time to sit they do take out too!
Stop by if you're in the area and enjoy. Don't miss Happy Hour.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Ray V.Queens, NY101278369Sep 21, 2009
I wish I had read the reviews before going there. This place, obviously, is consciously trying to confuse would-be customers that it is part of Dallas BBQ's. From the restaurant sign, the "texas size" drinks and the almost copycat menu.
The wings were horrible. Chewy and bland. The "NY strip steak" was a thin cut piece of meat with a hole in the middle. I reckon they pierce their steak on a rotisserie turner instead of grilling it.
I wouldn't be back to that place. Ever.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan S.Manhattan, NY14418Nov 17, 2012
If I could give this place zero stars I would. I had to call the police because they over charged my credit card and refused to fix the bill. Do not go here! I had to call the police for the establishment to return my money. It was a waste of money for the taxpayers of New York and a waste of my evening.
The food is dry and doesn't taste well. Service is terrible.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
