i'm a little biased in this review, cause i'm happily married (4 years and counting).  i rented out the whole hotel for my wedding back in 2004.  the old man and i searched far and wide for a venue that would accommodate us and not be a wedding sweat shop.  and by accommodate us i mean let us party all night long.  they agreed before we even knew how long the night would be.  the week before the wedding we found out that we would be having a second wedding band...the guitarist buckethead, going on at 1:30am.  and he played until 3am.  and when the cops showed up at 2:15 the owner giovanni told then to buzz off cause this was a private event.  cause that's how we role.  the process of planning the wedding with christina was pretty laid back, which we loved, but some bridezillas might be perturbed by her style.  the rooms are expensive and small and we were forced to pay for each one for the whole weekend, but we made it work.  it helps that they have brandy outside each room.  the poor guests that didn't know there would be a rock concert in the middle of the night were a little disturbed, but that's not my problem.

would i have my next wedding here?  yup.  cause it's a beautiful haunted mansion and they let us rock out all night.  thanks christina and giovanna.  you made it a night to remember.

This place is a trip. We decided to stay there because it was the only place within 45 miles of Monterey that had rooms available this past weekend.

When we got there, they asked if we wanted water. "Sure, that would be great!" But it never arrived. Neither did our towels - both days we were there (although it is not hard to find where they are hidden.)

The hotel is incredibly cluttered. As my son said: "they could have a garage sale as big as Wal-Mart, and they'd still have stuff left over." Even our dresser drawers were full of magazines.

The rooms are cute, in a cluttered sort of way, but there is no central theme, and  a lot of the pictures in the rooms are kind of creepy (we were in rooms 3 and 9). The dining room is a very weird combination of naked Hawaii women, weapons, French and Italian art, and dusty overhead sprinklers.

The door knob fell off our bathroom door, pictures are nailed everywhere with cheap nails in crusty plaster, and the view out our room (which could have been very pleasant) was of stuff strewn everywhere on an outside terrace.

All that being said, this is not an unpleasant place to stay. The beds were comfortable, the food decent, and the staff friendly. It is about a 40 minute drive to Monterey.

An interesting experience, and one we'll remember.

The Bayview is a bit cluttered, but the owner, Christina, is really nice, and the food in the restaurant is awesome. I felt as if I were in Italy. The portions were huge.  It's a small business: Disregard the negative reviews. Christina is very kind, and is passionate about what she does.

We had a gift certificate - so my b/f and I decided to get away for a couple of nights and spent the night in this B&B.

We learned that the Bayview Hotel is the oldest structure in Santa Cruz County - I had no doubt about that. It was apparent that a lot of history was contained in this building.

My major disappointment was when we first arrived. We were told that the person who was supposed to check us in was running an errand and wouldn't be back for an hour. Wasn't there anyone else who would be able to check us in? Unfortunately, it didn't seem there was. We left and got something to eat - but it would have been nice to be able to just take care of our registration when we arrived.

There were not a lot of other guests staying at the hotel with us (we were there on a week day night) and we were given the keys to the Victorian Suite. The accommodations were very comfortable - the bed was kinda weird though as the length of the bed is shorter than most conventional beds. My b/f is 6' tall - and his feet hung over the bottom edge of the bed. The bed had a comfy down comforter and the bathroom had a HUGE tub :-).

There are things that were included in our stay - the breakfast was good and cooked to order. Sherry is included in each room, but I wasn't impressed with it.

We ate at the Italian restaurant on our first night there. We split one of the pasta entrees - and good thing we did! The portion was very generous and rich (the sauce has lots of eggs and cream). The owners and their family were also dining in the dining room when we were there. We started a conversation, and were offered some lemon liquer which I undertand many Italian families have their own special recipe for. Giovanni - the host - is very proud of his sword collection which is on the wall and displayed in the sun room.

There's lots of other places in Santa Cruz County of interest and staying at the Bayview Hotel was certainly an experience.

The food is so-so. I mean if you like Ragu style spaghetti.

The wine list is terrible.

But the actual B&B is cute.  And at 4pm in the afternoon, in Aptos,  your choices for an appetizer and cocktail are limited, so I"ll understand if you go here.
