101 reviews for Baysix Massage & Health Center
One of Baysix Massage & Health Center's Favorite Reviews What's This?
Sparkely "wet noodle" K reporting for duty...I've just had a one-hour massage at BaySix...can you say "Ahhhhhh!"???
The last two weeks have been beyond stressful on many levels and my upper back, shoulders, and neck have been screaming in pain and tension. I think my knots had knots! After seeing the great reviews on Yelp, I called and spoke with one of the owners, Jennifer. She was very helpful with pricing and options, and I decided on the one-hour massage at the introductory price of $64!
I arrived knowing that the place would be a bit tricky to find from the street, but I wasn't expecting to not find the suite I was asked to go to. It seems that one suite (A) has the letter on the door, and the other (supposed to be "C") does not. I walked around the building thinking there was a suite C, and when I went back to A and saw another door with their name on it, I walked in only after peeking more closely (my first peek found what I thought was a dark room). Ugh. Hopefully the letter "C" will arrive soon. :)
After filling out paperwork I met Lindsay, my massage therapist, and we went in to the room. I told her that my shoulders et al needed lots of work. Once on the table she did a phenomenal job of working out many many knots. I don't recall ever having that many before!! My massage was amazing. Going back in four weeks for more.
Very small place. Nicely appointed. Simple and clean. Very friendly staff. This place was busy, too. That's a good thing!
**Since writing this I've gotten a nice PM from one of the owners!***

I would have loved to give Baysix 5 stars, as I have met Chris and Jennifer the owners once before. And I understand they now have a 2 year old son, yay!! I am having a new baby girl myself this Jan 2010.
Anyways, back to the massage session, upon checking in, I was not sure if I was checking in with my therapist or the front desk lady. After she took me into the room where the massage was to take place did I know that this lady was actually my therapist. I won't say which therapist.
The room was pleasant, candles were burning, nice music that sounded like it were coming in from the walls. Overall the massage was good, outside the fact that she nearly sent my calf muscles into spams from being too aggressive, and asking me to relax because I was tensing up from the uncomfortableness of my forehead (or in my case fivehead) being pressed into the wood of the face cradle.
And not spending more time on my legs, I did mention that I was training for a 1/2 marathon, and that she could just focus on my legs, I would have appreciated that more than the quick work of doing my whole body including belly work in 60 minutes.
I may being willing to give Chris and Jen another shot at 5 stars, but I must admit that Psoas bodywork may be next on my list.

The owner was very quick in contacting me to discuss my concerns and we had a pleasant dialogue. He agreed that it's nice for the therapists who work there to introduce themselves when you're sitting there waiting (and thus don't know who the person is), and I explained to him that I find it sexist when men call parenting "babysitting." It was very nice and professional of him to not only take the time to contact me, but also to listen to my silly concerns.
He also offered me a refund on my massage or a complimentary second massage. Why can't other business owners do this? It takes so little effort to contact a Yelper and say "Thanks for the feedback, let's talk about it"? The owner was very professional, and I am very appreciative of the effort and initiative in him wanting to make things right! That is a very nice thing to do.

Very good place to get a massage. I forgot the name of the woman who gave me a massage but she was… Read more »
Insanely great facials and massage! If you are looking for a cutesy, size 2 twenty something to give you Champagne and chocolates in whirlpool you are probably better off at a day spa than going to this place. But if like me, you have had skin issues all of your life and require a seasoned professional to do your facial, baysix can't be beat.
Extractions are typically very painful for me but these I hardly even noticed. Their product line is medical grade and their priced, the lowest I've seen anywhere for product and service of this quality. Their staff is very friendly and their facilities are nice without being fancy. Highly recommend!
A great find. I'm taking advantage of the month long intro rate and have seen Jennifer for a massage nearly every week. I could've tried other therapists but have been very pleased with Jennifer's work. Also going in for my first facial this weekend. And that it is just a few short blocks away...it just doesn't get any better.
The best massage I have ever had without hesitation. You can not get better than this in my opinion. Lois was a bit of a bruit at first but her hands did magic on my complex array of knots.
How do you put words on an epiphany? My entire life I believed tension is what held me together. Not any more. I've realized I can be free of stress and tension if I put in some effort in and focus on giving back to myself. How do you thank a person for showing you the way? For me it is the way of least effort... a yelp review! Thanks baysix!
They also offer facials and acupuncture. I bought a gift facial for my mother. I was reluctant because she was raised in Milan is very hard to please in the states. She had nothing but kind things to say. We plan to go back on her next visit.
I went into this place thinking "could they really be this good?". Let me tell you they are! I like a really deep massage so based on other yelpers reviews I asked to see Lois. My massage was unbelievably good. It was intense and I was sore for a day or two after but the relief I got was more than from any other massage I've ever had at a day spa.
The facility is kind of small, but clean and nicely decorated. Nothing too fancy but very cozy and relaxing. The staff is friendly and the prices are great. I will be calling to schedule a facial and massage soon.

I had a great massage from "Andrea," who listened to my request for an extra-firm deep-tissue massage. This is more than just relaxation for me, it's actual physical therapy, so I was very appreciative.
What a great little business! They aren't very big and it was a little bit hard to find my first time, but it is well worth the effort. The massage and facials are fantastic. They were running a special on my first visit and I got a free eyebrow waxing with my facial. Yeah!
I am pretty picky about my massages, I expect a deep tissue massage to be ...well, deep. I've tried three different people here and they have all been great. If you are serious about your massage this is a go to place.
Good basic massage place, you can't go wrong here, kind of like In 'n Out Burger...The massage I got was a solid workmanlike rubdown, like the kind you get at the gym. I don't think this is the place for an artful or sublime massage, but what my massage therapist lacked in real finesse or subtlety, he made up for in earnestness. I had a massage with Chris, a pleasant fellow, reminded me of the kind of guy you want to grab a brew with after work. I asked for deep pressure and he really gave it to me, although he probably could have been a little more careful around my neck. I almost "yelped" a couple of times, but he eased off. I like other massage places better, but I'd go here again if I ever want to be worked over.

This is one of the best places I've found for massage and facials in the Bay Area. Since moving here from San Diego a few years back I have been a regular at Baysix. They have a very friendly staff, great prices and offer very high quality massage.
I broke my left ankle in a Vespa crash when I was 16 [note to self Mod boys are stupid]. After two surgeries and tons of physical therapy I still have very limited range of motion and from time to time chronic pain. Basix has been a real savior for me. I've tried several of their massage therapists and their acupuncturist and they have always been very effective. Because of my injuries I require A LOT of pressure and day spa massages tend to do little more than irritate me. Every time I go I am always surprised by how much better I feel when I leave. I can't peak highly enough about these people. Their prices are low and the service is impeccable, plus they now offer facials!
I had a sports massage from Jennifer here a couple weeks ago. It was AMAZING! Without question the best I've ever had. I am a cyclist and am constantly battling chronically tight hamstrings and quads. I've had several knee surgeries and tons of physical therapy; I was so happy when I found this place. I've never had so much relief from one massage. I am going back for a facial and massage next week. I can't wait!
A+ experience every time! I've been going to Bay Six for massage and acupuncture for the last few years and I am always amazed by the results. They have a very friendly staff, great prices and now offer facials.
Like anyone I love to be pampered, but there is a sadistic side to me that loves to feel the pain of a really deep massage. If you like a bit of pain with your massage this place is great. I had my massage with Andrea and she tuned me up just right. My back and neck haven't felt this good in a year or more. I go every time I am in the area.

I've got serious issues with my neck and upper back and the typical massages just don't do much for me -- I leave relaxed but the problems never go away. At Baysix I've had the pleasure of seeing (and feeling!) real progress as Jennifer works through the layers of tension that have taken me years to build in a few short months.
I'm not really into the whole girlie day spa thing but I am thinking of getting a facial here to treat some mild acne.
Found this place through Yelp (THANK GOD)
I don't get a massage as often as I wish, but when I do its typically because I am in so much pain that I need help. Went there today for just that reason and saw Jennifer per the owner's recommendation. By far the best massage I have gotten in a LONG TIME!!! Possibly ever.
I have chronic back problems so I am in constant need of a massage to help relieve my suffering. Jennifer listened to my needs and spent my entire 90 minute session working on my problem areas per my request.
The place is very clean and the staff are friendly as well. This is not a spa so if thats what you are looking for you should go elsewhere. It is a GREAT PLACE to get a massage by very highly talented therapists (at least Jennifer is) that will address your needs at a reasonable price.
Another great incentive is that if you are a brand new client you get 20% off all massages for your first 30 days. Where are you going to get that at a spa? I will be back for sure.
The perfect combination of day spa and healing arts center. I used to live in SOMA and had a favorite place for massage, acupuncture and facials but they we all different. When I moved to Redwood City it was great to find a place that had all three under one roof that were all very high quality and very affordable.
Basix is a godsend! After being rear-ended 2 years ago I never thought be pain free again. I was told my only option was surgery. Luckily my friend recommended this place to my before I went under the knife. After just a few massages with Lois the shooting pain in my legs stopped and within a month the pins and needles feeling in my toes stopped. I can't say enough good things about these people. They really gave me my life back.
They also offer really good facials and have an accupuncturist that my friend swears by.

UPDATE -
I received a call after writing my review, which I have to admit was initially unnerving (note to self: don't give out real number to yelp businesses), from Jennifer, co-owners with Chris. I was pleasantly surprised by her response to my yelp review - she offered a full refund of the massage and an additional massage for free. I was also told that Tony was no longer working there, but not due to my yelp review. Today, when I checked my yelp account, I found a private message from Chris, reiterating what Jennifer had said. I also noticed that Chris had posted a Yelp review two days after my initial review. Good for him.
So... if I take that free massage offer, and have a good experience, am I expected to up my star count? What if I have another mediocre experience - another phone call?
FANS - would what you do?
Btw, I am not a fan of business owners sending PMs to yelpers about their reviews. I've gotten 3 in the last month. Truth hurts sometimes.
The good, the bad, and the ugly side of being a yelper...

I've never had a bad massage at Baysix...
It's a great place for a no-frills massage at a great price. The facility is cute and clean and the therapists are very professional. I just wish they were open on Sundays!

It's Like Chocolate: You know when you eat a piece of cholocate, you feel so happy and you can't wait to get onto the next piece? Well, Baysix massages are just the same. When your massage is over, you are quite content and full of peace; and you can't wait to go back for another!
The introductory discount is fabulous. The email newsletter is informative and reminds me of my last massage, excites me about the next one!
Whether you're looking for the kind of massage that puts you to sleep, a maternity massage, a healing massage, this is the place!
Don't worry about the parking as you'll read in some of the other reviews. There's plenty of parking on the street if you find the parking lot too small for your tastes. 5.5

I had major back pains one day and I was desperate to find a massage nearby work. This place took me within an hours notice and they were super friendly. The place is in a small office park, not your typical posh looking spa but it definitely gets the job done. The prices are way more affordable than other places. I'm definitely coming back here. Jen did my masage for me and she was really good. She is a massage therapist for the SJ Earthquakes so she's very well trained in sports massage therapy. She has very strong hands and applies good pressure. She was very attuned to my problem areas and worked on my knots. I'd definitely come back here whenever I need a quick fix.

My sister in-law gave me a gift certificate for a massage from here for my birthday. That was two years ago. I don't know why it took me until now to use the damned thing but I am glad I finally did; my experience was great! I added a facial for $75. I left feeling like a wet noodle. My skin looks and feels flawless. Overall I am very happy to recommend this business.
A great find! I live in the city and work in Palo Alto so I was excited to find a convenient place to get a massage on my way home from work. I've had an on going rotator cuff problem after a water polo injury Freshmen year of college. I need a massage therapist that really knows their stuff and can deliver A LOT of pressure. I've been here 3 times and tried three different therapist and left very satisfied after each visit.

I recently tried Baysix on a friend's insistance and I am so glad I did! I have had some very disappointing experiences in the past trying to find a new massage therapist and had settled for a cmt in Menlo Park, who is a friend of a friend. Don't get me wrong, Helen is fantastic at giving a relaxing massage, but a relaxing massage isn't what I needed.
I have come back to running after taking some time off and am in the process of training for a half marathon. I've done everything right; stretching, great running shoes and plenty of cross training. But my body was still hurting, even after several sessions with Helen. So, at my last group run I mentioned some issues I was having with my knees and a friend suggested that I try Baysix. I wasn't too enthusiatic considering how many other places I had tried. I had basically given up. But their thirty day trial was too tempting to pass up.
It was easy to make an appointment. I told the receptionist what my needs were and that I'd very disappointed by other places in the past, she listened to my concerns and finally recommended Robert. It was the perfect match. He zoned into the problem areas right away. As it turns out, a lot of my knee issues were stemming from my hips. The hip work was intense but I feel he really knew what he was doing and within a few visits my knees were no longer hurting.
The office itself is simple, nicely decorated but not fancy. And best of all it is clean and smells so good!
I plan to visit on a very regular basis to maintain these results. I am so grateful to have finally found a place that is close by, affordable and does meets my needs.
I was very happy to find this business. It's nice little day spa with great facials and massage. There is nothing too fancy about their facilities but they offer good quality services at fair prices. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
I called around 7pm last night and was lucky to get an appointment for this morning at 10:45am! O_O Amazing!!
When I got there at 10:30am, all the doors were locked. I was a bit confused, but after going there once I understand the process now. I really like my massage today, especially the sore areas she got! I was like O_O whoa! I got Chante and she was super nice and talkative. She's been working there for almost 3 years!
Baysix is very accommodating to what issues you may be feeling or what you need worked on. As their name, their facility is nothing like an Ojai resort, but they do do their best to make it a peaceful and relaxing place. Baysix is right across from a church. Their sign is a bit hard to read if you're driving because they're at the bottom of the sign that lists all the different businesses and the plants are covering up their name.
FYI:
-by appointment only, no walk-ins
-only get there a few minutes before your appt, it's useless to get there super early because you'll just have to wait outside
-they accept everything but amex and discover
If it's your first time there...
-get there about 5 mins early b/c you'll need to fill out a little paper (so they know what you need done)
-wear whatever you want because when you get a massage you can take off everything but your undies
-warm table and you will be covered by the nice thick blanket all the time
-after the massage, you won't want to move or leave. i laid for a good 5 mins after... haha
-a bottle of water is provided! drink up and stay hydrated!
-$64 for 1 hr massage. 30 day trial for that price! yayness! :D
From Redwood City Caltrain Station: about an 8 min walk

It had been a long time since I had had a massage and my husband must have sensed the need, because last week he surprised me with a massage here at Baysix. And did he score major brownie points!
This place is awesome. The office itself was very clean not a day spa but very cozy, with candles going, soft music playing and it smelled so good! The massage table was so comfortable, with super soft sheets and a heating pad. My massage was with Ann and it was one of the most beautiful massages I have ever had. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and therapeutic. I carry a lot of tension in my upper back from carrying my kid and usually when I get massages I accept that it has to hurt to be effective. Not with Ann. She worked that tension out in layers with strong but not aggressive pressure. Looking forward to trying their facials.
It was one of the best massages of my life. I recommend trying them out. You will not be disappointed.

I've been going to Jennifer for massage since 2003. She is the best! Totally fun and bubbly personality and gives a great massage. It's almost like therapy for my body and my mind. I was super excited when they added facials and peels. My extractions were pain free and my skin looks and feels years younger. They are close to home, have street and private parking and their prices can't be beat for the quality you get.
I found this place through Yelp like the others! I originally went there for a sports massage due to an injury and Tony was awesome. I went back a few other times have not been disappointed.
My wife and I have been going to Basics for years. One of my favorite things about this place it their attention to detail. I have a very stressful job and its nice to be able to trust that I am going to have a quality experience every time I go for a massage. If you have an appreciation for quality I highly recommend this business. We try to make it at least once a month and try a different person each time we go; we have never been disappointed.
Have now gone to Baysix for two massages. First was with Shante (sp?) and second with Lois. First of all the prices are outstanding for the quality of massage. They give a huge discount for your first month of massages and they also give a continuing substantial discount for being a Gold's Gym number. I've had great success on short notice appointments both times.
I highly recommend Lois for restorative deep tissue work. It won't feel good right away, but the pain is worth the gain!

Very fair rates. It's a simple massage place - the atmosphere is clean without being clinical, but not all "aaahhhh ahhh ahhh!" / enya in the background ethereal.
I had a massage by Joe. He's very technically good. I think if I had something to work out, I'd go back to him. If I was looking for more of a healing experience, I might ask one of the other therapists.
I think he was chewing gum during my massage. ew.
Great rates and deals for new clients and gold's gym members.

My wife and went to check it out given the great reviews here and we weren't disappointed. I had Lindsay who was OUTSTANDING. I have studied massage in the past so often find myself thinking too much about what someone is doing. This is the first time in a long time I was able to lose myself in total relaxation. Bravo.
I feel really bad about leaving a marginal review for this place. Jennifer is wonderful and was very helpful, especially after Google lied to me about how to get there.
Yesterday was my second massage there. My first massage was only OK. The massage therapist and I squeezed into this teeny room, where she barely had enough room to maneuver around the massage table. The bizarre part was that she started the massage with me facing up -- I have never had a massage like that!
I had my second massage yesterday with Tony. I requested him based on the Yelp reviews. Yeah, I just wasn't feeling it. My back was really destroyed (I mean, really) and he did do a decent job of working out a lot of the knots. Sometimes, though, his technique felt amateurish -- I compare it to that of my husband (and he's clearly not a trained massage therapist). He didn't seem sure of how to get to certain knots.
He also had an oil management problem. He repeatedly wiped up the oil with a washcloth or towel.
The massage was not at all relaxing, but that could be because my back was in such bad shape.
That said, I do plan to go back in a month or two to try this place again. Their customer service is excellent and it could be that I caught Tony on a bad day.

Excellent massages: I have followed bay six from the chiros office on woodside to their bigger private office on broadway. I love the ambience of the place and the immediate sense of calm I feel going there. Jennifer is excellent. Hard to get in sometimes which is frustrating so I usually call in advance; but well worth the wait!

Had an awesome massage here by Andrea. She worked mostly on my neck and back and OMG sooo goood. The new customer special is currently $64 which is an unbelievably good deal.
The only reason it's not 5 stars is because when you try to find it, it's kind of hard to find and it looks a little sketchy from the outside. Overall the place is very minimalist... not a fancy day spa feeling.
Highly recommend this place to those who are sick of mediocre massages in the Peninsula/South Bay.
One more thing... it's good for small groups since they have plenty of massage therapists

Completely agree with fellow yelpers, this place has one of the best massages ever. I love massages that put a lot of pressure so the masseuses here are perfect. (Please note that they do cater to all sorts of preferences in terms of pressure)
I've been here several times, and, the place is sort of off the beaten track, which makes you worried at first. However, the interior is clean and soothing, and the massage beds are awesome with its high thread-count linens. I almost immediately fall asleep when I lie on that bed.
You should always book in advance as they fill up quite quickly, especially on weekends. They will ask you what type of massage you prefer, and will assign the appropriate person. So far, my choices have been great! They also have a great introductory offer for the first month as well.

I'm the type of gal who gets massages every now and again, when the pain of the knots in my back or neck are just too much to take.
Before I went to Baysix and saw Tony, I could hardly turn my neck without wincing in pain. I don't know what I did to it, but it hurt like heck. I thought, time to bring in the heavy stuff, so I first requested Louis. She was fully booked, so they suggested Tony. I've seen Tony, once before and loved him, so it was actually lucky it turned out the way it did.
Tony is friendly, professional and most importantly, very effective as a masseuse. Instead of my previous relaxing massage style, I explained what was bothering me and he went to work targeting my shoulders and arms. What I look for in a masseuse:
1) Asks questions and listens to me before they jump in and get to work. - check.
2) Makes sure I'm comfortable without constantly interrupting the peace and quiet - check.
3) Knows how to blend firm pressure and soothing touches, so that I don't feel totally beat up after - check.
4) Has the skill to make me think of sublime complimentary adjectives - check.
5) Alleviates the issues I came here to resolve - check!
I really can't say enough good things about Tony. He is versatile and extremely effective. If you drop by Baysix to give it a shot, I highly recommend you give Tony a try.
