I had Irene come to Santa Cruz to do my wedding make-up, bridesmaids and other women who wanted makeup done. She was very flexible as we worked out hair appointments with her make-up schedule.
Irene works over at Katherine Kendall salon in Albany and has done my facials. She knows my skin and and knows how unkind I have been with my skin, so no doubt I wanted her to do my make-up.
I don't really wear make-up in the first place, so she really was sensitive about leaving the cake to the bakery and not on my face.
She really knew her stuff. I was nervous about the very dark lipstick and long lashes she placed on me, but she knew better and kept saying, "trust me!" It's a good thing I did. My make-up looked great in the pictures. It all looked so natural! what I thought was too red or dark lipstick came out so natural in the pictures! I am so glad i let go and just let her do her magic!
My friend had a few facial marks as a side-effect from her illness. Irene again waved her wand and covered it all up for her...the pictures looked great and we even forgot all about her marks! So grateful for Irene and her talent.
Now if I can only drink more water like she always tells me to! -

I admit, when it comes to makeup, I'm a bit of diva. So for my wedding in August, it was important that I got it done right. Especially, because I am a woman of color, it was important to me that I found an artist who doesn't give me that "geisha" look. You know what I'm talking about - the pale face that doesn't blend to your neck and shoulders! Hate that! Seen alot of friends and family go through that & want to cry for them.
I knew I had to have Irene do my makeup for the wedding. She's different. She's a true artist. (And a bad ass estetician- I'll get to that later).
I know weddings are expensive and there are things you need to skimp on especially nowadays, but I'm telling you - wedding makeup is more intricate than you think. Don't think you can throw on some blush and pick out that natural colored looking lipstick and then splash on some sparkly eyeshadow yourself. On regular days, yes, on your wedding day...uh...heck NO! There's highlighting, contouring, waterproofing & false LASHES to apply - oh those lashes make a world of a difference. Imagine spending all that money on a photographer and having your makeup wash you out! Not with Irene's help you won't.
I chose Irene because she knows her stuff. That and she's a wonderful, amazing, and one-of-a-kind skin guru. She didn't make me look different because I was a bride (you know some brides that look totally different than they do on a regular). She made me look like me, just better. My hubby still recognized me as I was walking down the aisle - that's a good thing, eh?
There were two things that I got the most complements on during the wedding - the flowers and my makeup. Makeup, really? Yes, brides-to-be, when you have a bunch of guests asking you who did your makeup; you know it was done right. Well, if they ask you who did your makeup with a smile, not a frown, on their faces - then you know it must look good, right?
I know there are a lot of salons out there that provide makeup services and will travel, but Irene is an independent. Not saying that salons don't do a good job. What I'm saying is makeup is what Irene does and she's darn good at it. I like freelancers because it's that much more serious to them. It's how they make a living! I know, I do it myself! She's a perfectionist and will not let you leave without looking at it twice. She does this cute little dance around you as she looks at you in all angles before she hands you the mirror...hahahahahahaha!
I know this is going to sound horrible, but for my girls, I hired another makeup artist and hogged Irene to myself...hehehehee. She's that good. Don't worry, the other girls looked beautiful, of course. But, Irene was all mine. =) That was my only Bridezilla move throughout the day. I told you I was a makeup diva, didn't I? (Side note: she is more than capable to do more than just the bride...my case was a bit...errr...different).
Stop wasting time. Call Irene. She's your girl. You will come out looking like yourself, but even more beautiful. I think I had one of those "Oh My God, I'm so beautiful" moments those women had from that reality TV show "The Swan" after seeing myself in the mirror when Irene was done. Just don't waste those tears of joy on how good you'll look. Cry when you have to write 100+ thank you cards when you get back from your honeymoon.
Congrats and good luck to all the future brides reading this. Now, get a hold of Irene before someone else swoops up your appointment. Hahahahahahaha!
BTW - she does amazing facials and will whip your skin back to shape. I followed her from that Aveda salon to her new digs at KK salon in Albany. She now uses Dermologica. I am also a big product whore...and can't tell you how happy I am that she switched her skincare line...not that Aveda is bad...it's just that I needed that synthetic stuff to rid me of my blemishes, ok? -

I have been going to Irene for years now. She truly understands my skin and consistently provides a relaxing environment. The idea of facials/waxing anywhere else is absolutely ludicrous, no one but Irene will touch my face! Who else would I ask to do my make-up for my up-coming nuptials? I am really looking forward to her ideas and artistry.

she's beyond fantastic.. and knew exactly what worked for my skin and style.
She came to my house which was so incredibly convenient and did my make-up while my girls were able to bustle around us taking care of last minute preparations.. thank you for your patience with all those questions! On top of doing a phenomenal job with my make-up, Irene did my 8 year old daughters and she LOVED it.. what glittery eyes!! -

I hired Irene of Bay Side Beauty to fulfill my wedding make-up needs, both for myself (bride) and for one bridesmaid. Prior to my wedding day, I had never had my makeup professionally applied, nor do I wear make-up regularly. I do perform professionally, however, so in my world there were only two extremes of make-up: none or stage make-up. Well, that all certainly changed when I found and hired Irene. She was phenomenal! She was able to create a look that was natural, yet glamourous; subtle, yet softly striking. She works over at the Artbeat Salon and Gallery, but her "mobile business" is Bayside Beauty. I went to the Salon for a consultation and she came to my hotel for the wedding day. In addition to the make-up, three days before the wedding I also had Irene shape my eyebrows (very fist time in my life), and that too was a great experience. She is truly a GREAT person to work with and her talents are only surpassed by her great nature and personality.

Irene recently did my make-up for my wedding. She worked out of ArtBeat Salon on Solano Ave. From the beginning Irene was very professional on the phone when we were setting up our appointment. She listened to everything I specified and didn't interrupt me! She understood that even though I needed make-up for one day, that it was very important we got it right since I wanted to look like myself. I sent Irene a picture of me and she sketched out what she planned to do. She also looked in magazines for women with similar facial features--as a result her/my make-up turned out fabulous! Overall I was very happy with Irene's accommodating approach, customer service and I was also very happy with my make-up and wedding photos!

I found Irene at Artbeat Salon where I get my hair cut (great place for that too). I wanted to have my make-up done for my wedding and was pleased that Artbeat provided that service as well. I was able to have my hair done and get my make up done in one fabulous stop.
I had never had my make-up done and I had high hopes (modern-vintage look, ala Dita Von Teese). I met with Irene before the 'big day,' but did not have the time for an application. She immediately understood my style and what I was going for. When it came time for the actual application I realized how much time and artistry goes into creating a made up face. I did not get to see what was happening until she whisked me to her back room to apply the false lashes. I caught a glimpse in a mirror and was shocked! I looked great! She nailed the look and the make up stayed on all afternoon and well into the night. I have sensitive eyes and the Aveda make up did not irritate them at all.
Irene was professional but amiable and I would definitely love to have her do my make up again. I just need to find another occasion... -

Irene did my makeup for my engagement photos and wedding and I loved it! I received so many compliments. She is really good at blending my preferences and her expertise. Irene is an artist!! I was very pleased with her eyelash applications....very natural yet noticeable and my photos turned out so nice. I highly recommend Irene and will look forward to using her services in the future.

I reached out to Irene in something of a panic as I had a very important event and it was coming up fast. She replied promptly and was very professional and accomodating over the phone. She came to my house at a very early hour in the morning on a Saturday. She had all the equipment she needed and what can I say? She transformed me! And she did it so that it looked natural and pretty and not overdone at all. She also listened very well when I was describing what I wanted which is HUGE. She is personable and has a good sense of humor. I'm getting married next summer and I'm definitely going to use her for myself and my friends! She rocks!!!
