I make this dish at home with sausages on a bed of french lentils.  But, I use sausauge from this place and it is delicious.

Hope the french and germans don't mind me mixing these together but it goes really great together.

A great little find this place.

My Grandma is from Germany..near Munich in fact. Came over in WW2 with a soldier. So for awhile she raised me, I was like 5. I was fed a steady stream of braunsweiger (i wouldnt eat liverwurst cause it had liver in the name) and rye bread, goulash (i know its a hungarian dish), and stuff i should remember but cant.

So now that I'm miles away from any family, and I feel like im a bit too insignificant in this big city,  I sneak down here when I'm missing my gma. The ladies are soo nice and friendly, and are soo quick to feed me meats.... to taste of course. Just like my gma always does. *ahhhh*  They still have accents and seem to be really happy when i express interest in what everything is, and what kind of beer or wine to pair.

Ok so nostalgia aside, I come here to get the best landjager, liverwurst, a bottle of the *European* version of Maggi, random sweets, and really good hefeweisen. I'm telling ya, braunsweiger, some rye bread, and a pint of beer, makes a great lunch. Better than some pubs... specially if its sunny out. And i've come here to get a spread for a picnicy date once, told the ladies what it was for, and they loaded me up with tons free goodies. Things they thought a girl would like. That's pretty cool.

One of these days i'm gonna see if they can ship some meats down to my gma in Orange County. The lost all their German deli's down there :(

* I've seen their meats being carried in Metropolitan Market as well.

I came here recently to stock up on Bratwurst for my annual Oktoberfest gathering.  I was able to get 20 homemade brats for $23!

The women working here are amazing - they filled me, my friend and his dog up on free samples while we waited, and gave me advice on the best way to make Pfeffernüsse (use honey, not molasses).  The rest of their meats look amazing - I can't wait to try more.

I stopped in here to get some sliced meat for a quick lunch. I grabbed one of the delicious pretzel rolls and some beerwurst and kassler (boneless smoked pork loin). The beerwurst was delicious; studded with white pepper, but the kassler was unbelievable. Tender and juicy with a nice hint of smoke, it would make a great sandwich. Me, I just ate it plain with a roll chaser. Will certainly be back. 1/2 pound of meat and a roll was also under $5.

Based on service alone this place easily would get 5 stars. Add in the fact that the sausage is all hand made, delicious, and cheap and you have a really special shop.

All of the meats I've bought here have been fantastic. Plus any question you may have about preparation, or even what beers pair best with your meats are very kindly and thoughtfully answered by the two extremely helpful and kind women behind the counter.

The selection is vast, Bratwurst, Bock wurst, Knackwurst, German Salami, wieners,  Prosciutto, and even English Bangers. I found it very hard not to buy more than I intended. Once I paid for my meats I was even given a wiener to snack on as I left. This place is a gem!

Great little hole-in-the-wall German Meat Shop.

I longed for the German meats, from back home.  I felt alone, in Seattle.  The closest thing I could find were generic grocery store bratwurst.  That was, until I accidentally discovered Bavarian Meats Delicatessen.

This shop is strange.  It's a shop within a shop.  It's not easy to find.  You'll find it on the strip of stores, across from Pike Place Market.  It's inside a dessert shop, on the left-hand side (near the end of the market).

They specialize in their hand-made sausages (which are actually fabricated at a different location), but they also offer treats from the Rheinland.  There are plenty of candies and German food products in here, besides the meat.

If you're a fan of German sausages, or meat in general, give this place a visit.  All of their sausages are hand-made, here, in Seattle.  They often have samples (and would probably allow you to sample, if you asked).  Try the Landjäger.  It's phenomenal (great for camping / hiking trips).

Anywhere I see those little green labels I used to see in all the super markets I get all warm fuzzy inside. I know its not flowers, but those memories are precious and way better then anything perishable!

Plus- those ladies are nice! An offhand comment about a t-shirt led to a German conversation. Always a bonus.

AND on top of that - the products are amazing. You don't have to stop by for my personal reasons, they actually sell amazingly well-priced & tasty food products. Try the sausage- you'll love it.

This little shop reminded me of Leavenworth! Right down to the free samples of meat.

The store is tucked away inside the Sanitary market, almost kiddy-corner to the Piroshky Piroshky. The carry many german/bavarian specialty items, If there is something specific you are looking for, you will probably find it here.

My dad purchased some weiners from here.

The sweet lady behind the counter said, as she was wrapping them up,

"zee veeners are always good to have! Anything else?"

I will be back again sometime soon. They have German Butterkase! (most awesome havarti like creamy cheese.. buttery just like it sounds)

She gave me so many samples that I could've skipped lunch.

Excellent products, very cheap.

Now, I'd heard that the ladies in white at the Bavarian Meat Deli were a fantastically sweet and helpful bunch, but I was not expecting the lovely service and cheery smiles that I received when I stopped by their shop the other morning.

Talk about customer service! Not only are they helpful and kind, but after I purchased some items from the woman in white, I was given a Landjager (think pepperoni stick, but much, much better) that I polished off in about 2 minutes. Nice selection of meats (fresh & cured), sweets, condiments, candy, baked goods, and loads of other fun stuff.

Definitely pop in when you're in Pike Place next time. Old world charm just emanates from this place!

The food is great here, but the best part for me was the friendly lady behind the counter. She explained everything and suggested a bunch of tasty stuff to eat.  I'm a huge fan of the sausage, and I had this stuff that looked was like shredded ham and cabbage in a mayonnaise sauce that was also really good.

The place is kinda hard to find at first because the storefront doesn't face the street - you have to go into this little food court area.

Besides the comprehensive selection of the best german style sausages, cold cuts and other pork based german products what really caught my attention was the service. I went with my wife and we got a nice greeting from 3 charming ladies who were very nice and also suggested some products to us (in fact I got a winner sausage for free as a gift ).

After eat all the sausages that we got here, We realize that we do not need to go to leavenworth to get a nice german taste.

Prices are very reasonable because the product quality and if you compare all the associates expenses to get into Leavenworth (gas, etc) these prices are very inexpensive.

If you like meat, you found heaven.  Pure Heaven.

The ladies here will take care of you, just like your mother would.  (If your mother is a super nice German lady).

The quality of their meats is in the very top tier.  The selection is sometimes overwhelming, but the good folks there will help you out.  Plus a hugely stocked German and Bavarian food stuffs to go along with!

YUM!

My jaw dropped and my heart started beating rapidly when I saw the kinder-kandy on the shelf at Bavarian Meat Delicatessen. I was so excited, not because kinder-kandy is worth the $2 per package, but because it took me back to some of the best times in my life.

I am not going to make claims on the authenticity or quality of BMD for two reasons: mostly because I'm a vegetarian, but also because I only visited Germany for a span of 2 months. Therefore, I don't know that much- I just know my own memories. :)

I am going to say that I LOVE Germany, I miss it, and Kinder-kandy was my best friend's (at the time) favorite chocolate. I'm more of a Lindt girl, and that hit local supermarkets years ago. I went to purchase, and they had rolls and bretzels. The women are very sweet and lively, and if I ate meat I'd be charmed into purchasing some to cook up.

I like this place a lot. I'm tempted to give it 5 stars but I'm a vegetarian so I didn't personally try the meat. Many people in my party did though and really loved it. I liked the atmosphere and the little old German ladies running around. They reminded me of my grandmother. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you like good meat and sausages.

Bacon.  Buy their bacon, cook it, eat it.  Its siren's song calling you from the pan will ensure that you will return.  All the other meats are great as well, but none as yet have sung to me quite like these delicious slabs of pork.

No sooner than I walk in here does some guy at the counter ask the deli lady, "Can I get a pound of wieners?"

Do not laugh. Do not laugh. You are not seven years old. And even when you were seven years old you would get in trouble for acting so inappropriately in public. Do not laugh. Do not laugh. But he said wieners. But he said pound of wieners! Do not laugh. Do not laugh. Wieners!

Yeah, I lost it. Hahahahahasnortahahahahaha! Wieners.

Thank goodness almost everyone else in there conducted their business in German so I couldn't tell if they were saying anything else that would cause me to get kicked out of this place before I could buy my packet of CurryWurst.

OK, so... I didn't realize they don't make their meats there (the reviews sort of made me think the stuff was homemade)...

What I didn't EXPECT was for them to not know if there's MSG in their stuff.

That isn't the end of the world... unless they do like some "local" makers and use MSG cause it's easier to work with than sodium nitrite... I'm excited enough to have a place stocking my lovely pale Thuringer sausage (and white bockwurst, which I never tried before for some reason... I always went for the "fringe foods," I guess!) I'm happy about it. The kraut surprisingly has no caraway seeds (much of Bavaria uses them), but it's also (like Bavarian kraut) not sour like our nasty canned stuff that just makes you pucker when eating straight. It's not like grandma's, but it will do in a pinch. I don't mind buying 2 pounds--they did the hard work; I can tweak away at it... (Grandma's--an adopted 1st gen grandma, that is, from my college town, who "needed" someone to cook for... she even eventually opened a very successful restaurant, go granny go!--it's soft, the cabbage isn't shreaded so thin.. it's more like a delicate steamed broad cut cabbage, though it's actually pickled gently with a bit of sugar in the pickling and not so much vinegar... caraway seeds and some other aromatic components make hers untouchable... except to eat, of course, warm being better than cold when the kraut is really good)...

Oh, and I haven't yet used it (I'm wrapping it around a huge beautiful piece of COD on sale at Metropolitan Market for $6.48/lb--never frozen, hooray!) but I gotta tell you... IT SMELLS DIVINE.

If all goes well and everything cooks up just right, I'll update this with 4 stars.

Hot diggety, though, that bacon has me hungry. Maybe I'll sneak a piece away... I actually have eggs to serve it with! hmm hmmmmmmmm.... yumm yummmmm.

And their Butterkase... mmm just right. I could only afford half a pound of it with the price NOT being cheap... not even being reflective of the fact that butterkase is like a pure form of that slab velveeta cheese food product... it's usually the ultra cheap cheese, not Beechers-is-the-same-price cheese! Still, can't argue if no one else has it. If you've never had it, get a 1/2cm bit... you want 1/2 a cm or thicker so you understand its consistency (its weight?mosty water, to be fair. flavor?nostalgic.)

Oh, btw, ordering on the phone... DON'T DO IT. So stressful, and she ended up thin-slicing my thuringers, both kinds... I have no idea how to cook raw thin-sliced sausage and keep it juicy... I guess it'll go in a sandwich instead of just being dipped...

One last note--the mustard... not home-made... an $8.45 for sweet mustard. I realize it's imported and this is Seattle, but it's still mustard. If anyone wants the brand name, I'll look it up. With taxes, it was over $9... for 13 ounces, it's kind of a rip off. I was honestly expecting a little more like "back home" where the mustard is in a big vat... the one they prepared it in... not a fancy imported jar. Keep in mind, the jar is only a 4" tall one... this mustard isn't gonna last long... and it's grainier than the usual sweet mustards... and not as sweet, even, well, not "naturally" as sweet... it's got added sweeteners, yes, but they aren't the same as cooking it in sugar that breaks down and becomes one with the vinegar. THAT is disappointing. You'll be better off if you take some gulden's or maille smooth dijon and alter it yourself, despite dijon being a weird base... actually, IKEA and the little scandinavian market in ballard (if it's still there) have great sweet mustards ... the ones in Sweden and Finland were a lot closer to homemade german ones than this jarred stuff that is too resemblant of French style mustard!! (Still, I shouldn't, maybe, be surprised... except that Cafe Yamarka has me thinking the good spots in Pike Place should be all from scratch like their products are!

BTW, it's NOT so cheap. Some stuff is, but $4.50 a pound for kraut is just a bit over the top... it's STILL JUST CABBAGE, and theirs was clearly machine-made, whizzed around with an electric shredder, which kinda ruins some of the cabbage's natural beauty... The sausages were $4.50-6... the bacon a bit more I believe... my total bill for 2 kinds of thuringer (that they don't have links of but that smell lovely) and 1 piece of bockwurst and 10 super thin slices of bacon (really next to nothing, a few ounces at most) with a jar of mustard and 1x3x4" of butterkase ... $40. That isn't cheap. I  almost forgot to praise slash warn you... they gave me a free roll and piece of layered cake with cream on the inside and almonds on top... ewww both were stale and flavorless. Reallly awful, worse than not eating all day awful. Seriously. They have to be 100% refined flour... cause most refined flour still has SOME flavor... but theirs had ALL the flavor leeched out (probably old flour in that respect). Thankfully, its name says meat, not bakery :)

B-O-L-O-G-N-A!

I love bologna, not the crappy Oscar Meyer stuff that most groceries stories sell.  No, I want the real thing and this is the place to get it.

This shop is a hidden one near Pike Place and carries a great assortment of German foods.  They have breads, sauerkraut, pickles, candies, and cakes all from Deutsch-land .  They also speak fluent German so it's great to try out what you know.

The meat case is the focal point and has quite an array of different wursts and loaves to choose from.  Fresh bacon, brats, salamis, links and wursts.  It can be a little confusing if you don't know what you are after.  But the ladies there are always nice and willing to help out.  I love the beer wurst here.  Once you have something this good, you will never get bologna from a regular deli again.

My friend and I wanted to buy some salami, so we were standing indecisively at the counter, trying to decide which type to buy.  The super-cute German grandma-type came to our rescue and offered us (very generous!) tastes of all of the types.  So we bought a pound of our favorite (it was VERY reasonably priced - think like 1/4 the price of Salumi) and then she threw in the heel of the salami for free!  Thanks, grandma!

The place also has an awesome array of licorice (apparently Germans LOVE their licorice, second only to their love of David Hasselhoff).  AND they  have Kinder Eggs!  If you've never had a Kinder Egg, get there now.  Chocolate plus toy!

The best Wurst in town. A real meat deli. There are so few of these around anymore. Sure, the big markets do some of this, but this place is seriously old school. The women who run the front counter are sturdy but friendly  with thick German accents and wearing white spottless butcher coats. The cases are filled with Wursts, brats lanjaeger, salt cod and amazing franks. And they will let you taste as much as you need to decide what you like.

There are also shelves filled with all kinds of Eastern European specialties like soups and sauces. Virtually every time I've been in there I've met someone who gives me an interesting recipe or recommends a new item to try.  To me, this is the true spirit of Pike Place. I can just imagine this is how it was back in the day when people would go shop to shop to buy their week's groceries.

It's rare that I come out of there with less than 4 or 5 pounds of meats. And my car smells soooo smoky and delicious on the ride home.

It was nice to actually find Germans running a deli.  It is semi reminiscent of the local Metzgerei in Schwabisch Hall where my family lives.  I was able to converse with the woman, but she was not too plussed about being super helpful.  Oh well!  I loved the wurst selection and don't think any place in Seattle rivals it.  They also have all the ingredients and unique spices for things like Cucumber Salad and Kase Spaetzle.
If you are into German Christmas cookies they have them, and all the chocolate a girl could ever ask for.  Basically...you want to grill up some impressive sausage, serve it with Kraut and noodles and then bake up an Apfelkuchen, then just haul yourself down to Pike Market and visit the Bavarian Deli.

When I can't get to Hess down in Lakewood which is the Holy Grail of German stores in Western Washington, I swing on by Bavarian Meats at Pike Place.  The gal's are all friendly and reminiscent of family friends back in Siegen.  When I need some fixin's to have Butterbrot for breakfast I swing on by here.

Their bread selection is from Hess in Lakewood (they are the regional German bread bakery) and Bavarian Meats is often out of the sliced version of most brown breads.  They usually only have a lighter version left when I stop by on my lunch break.  Oh well, as long as I get the aufschnitt and teewurst right??

As all German stores, prices are inflated a lot for imported goods, so save this one for a treat.

My mom has been taking me there since I was little - my grampa used to go when they were not even in the pike place market area. The women are so friendly and my mom talks with them in German on a regular basis. They are like your grama. They make great suggestions about what to get and always have something new and fun to try. My recent discovery was skirt steak rolled around a pickle with cheese ground mustard and paprika very tasty. The Landjager is my absolute favorite (a dried sausage stick). All in all a place worth visiting if you are in the market!

One of the things Betty and I enjoyed most when we visited Munich earlier this year was the food. From Wienerschnitzel to Knodl to Leberkasesemmel, German fare is always hearty and filling. When we got back to Seattle, one of the things we tried to do is hunt down places that carried some of the dishes we loved most while abroad.

We were in luck; while walking along Pike Place Market one fine day, a signage for "Bavarian Meats" caught our eye, so we decided to walk in and check it out.

They have just about every major German meat you can imagine, in additional to other German food (candies, knodl mix, German bread, sweet mustard, etc). Our personal favorites have been the Weisswurst (a Bayern specialty, traditionally eaten before noon) and the Leberkase (German bologna, more or less). The ladies that man the counter are very amiable and recognize their frequent customers, and the prices  are surprisingly affordable; we've walked away with enough food to last 2-3 days without spending more than $10.

For us, any visit to the Market would be remiss without stopping by here for our weekly fix on German food. Und du kannst mit ihnen Deutsch sprechen :)

Very hidden if a local doesn't take you- and even if you see the sign. Right in the crazy indoor space creation by Emmitt Watson's. It is run by two ladies with kick tush fun Bavarian accents. The deli is sort of like a 7-11 mix of European products to be purchased. Powders, mixes, candies, breads, and of course lots of meat. I go for the lanjaeger(sp?) and it cost me like $1.50 for two sticks. Having been forcefully converted to salami and beef sticks of quality (I am not a slim jim kinda girl) this place is a saint. A friend took me- pointed at what to order- and I have stopped in every time since. Last time I even added a Kinderball to my order and I am thinking about going back for a fun chocolate advent calender. The shop is quaint- but holds a lot. The meat is well priced and the experience and ambiance is laid back and European. Don't be intimidated to go in and explore- Just do it!
