If you're in the Catskills, this Bed and Breakfast would definitely come recommended. I'm recommending it as such--a place to stay the night and grab breakfast. A very large converted 19th century Victorian mansion with a lovely lake view, the rooms are small but very cozy, well furbished with a certain "homey" feel--lots of lace, pillows, cute blankets. Extremely clean. Clearly, this is a family establishment, with the owner very warmly welcoming you and making sure you are doing okay. Outside, relax in a number of rocking chairs, read, breathe in the clear air and pet their "house" kitten and dog. At nighttime, you can light the outdoor bonfire and toast marsh mellows. Oh, and you won't freeze at night because you control the heating in the room.
The dining room is likewise beautifully decorated, with an old-timer serving as the waitress, you feel like extended family.
The downsides: my room came with a coffee pot, but no electric outlet nearby. No garbage was in the room. 2. As a vegetarian, the menu is difficult to get by with, as it is a German establishment, everything is either sausage or flavored with bacon. The coffee is ghastly. 3. I think for what you get, it is overpriced. There is hardly anything "to do" around, so these were really more "resort" prices.
There's something about a visit to the Catskills in the winter that makes a trip to Bavarian Manor a perfect outing. It could be the Victorian building and quirky, homey decor. After all, it has been in business since 1865. The ambiance is casual and perfect for kids -- but there is also a bar for just meeting friends or locals. You could say it is a classic mountain inn.
But what surprised me was the food. My two meat eating friends and I ordered three stand-out dishes.
The ROULADEN: thinly sliced beefsteak rolled around pickles, onions and bacon. This was divine with the buttery spaetzle and winekraut.
The WEISS PLATTER featured three tender, flavourful sausages atop a thin pork cutlet, sauerkraut and mash potatoes.
And the odd-sounding but phenomenally good HOLSTEINER SCHNITZEL took the prize. The veal cutlet's coating was crispy -- the meat succulent. And the fried egg served on top of it added a mellow, soothing flavor. Thin slices of cornichons and anchovies on top of that added another tangy wall of flavor. All together, the ingredients enhanced one another boldly. It was a hit.
Our vege/pescetarian friends were happy with the potato pancakes and fish dishes. And all the meals came with soup or green salad.
The wheat beer was great and the merlot not bad. We all walked out happy, satisfied and each only about 30 dollars lighter. This is the kind of old-school establishment I enjoy visiting. I hope to return to try their wild game in season and their authentic desserts.

A great old charming place with pretty good food. My favorite is the weiner schnitzel. My father likes the saurbraten and usually gets that. Small bar area, large dining area, great hosts.
