Being able to explore a battleship is awesome. Even more awesome is the history attached to this ship. It is where the treaty was signed with Japan to end WWII in the Pacific Theater. There is a plaque marking the spot where the signing occurs and what looks like actual documents whch were signed there. It's quite a powerful thing to think about while floating on Pearl Harbor.

The rest if the boat was pretty awesome and really gave you a good insight into how a lot of the men an women serving in the Navy lived and still do live on the boats.

There was a room which had a very kind gentleman in it who was a WWII survivor and had lots of interesting tidbits to share.

The only downfall is this is not a place for someone who can't handle a lot of stairs or doesn't like incredibly steep staircases. There are definitely some stairs that are the kind you need to go down like a ladder and you can climb up pretty high on the ship. As long as that doesn't bother you, this is a must do while in Pearl Harbor.

We got in line to get our Arizona(free) tickets and realized we had about 2+ hours open before our USS Arizona group time. The Missouri looked intriguing, but cost $16 as an individual attraction. We bit the bullet and bought tickets which included a round trip shuttle to the island where it is stationed.

The USS Missouri is a wonderful ship to look at as a history fan. The signage and self guided tour are very well laid out. There are also guided tours available from passionate people. Every once in a while we would stop and eavesdrop on a guided tour because the details and personal stories related were very interesting.

Fyi's~
* The really pricey photos they take of you on the deck take about 40 minutes to develop so take a photo from the people who offer right when you board
* It takes about an hour and a half+ to get the the Missouri and back with a semi quick walk around the boat
* The USS Missouri stopped serving in the 1990's

Again another interesting history lesson if you are into history. This one has a souvenier pic with a frame for $28.

You get a history lesson on the navy and specifically the end of WWII/surrender of Japan. Great views from the deck.

We did the whole package for $37 so I am not sure what the specific price for this one is.

If you're a veteran, plan to serve in the military, or just have a kid who needs to get his ass out of the house and learn the meaning of "service".... this is a good place to come. As a combat vet, it was quite an experience to see the USS Bowfin submarine, the USS Missouri and learn more about their story.
Some of the most moving moments though, will  come when you're at the front pavilion, reading through the memorial plaques of all the submarines and ships that were lost at sea, or sunk by the Japanese during WW2. The stories about the crews and the final voyages of these ships are inspiring. Didn't get the chanCe to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, because I got there after 3pm and they were closed; it's best to show up in the morning, and plan to make a day (or at least half a day) of it.

On a recent trip to Hawaii my wife and I vistied the USS Missouri. Im a Navy veteran (USS Nimitz and USS Abraham Lincoln) and I used to drive by this ship on the way to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington State. Never got to go on the ship when it was in Washington, but I always wanted to.

We took the large tour and had a very knowledgeable tour guide. We went in the gun turrets, to the mess decks, down in the engine room, and even the brig. The ship looks like everyone took their personal belongings and just left. Even the metal Navy furniture was still there. It really brought back memories of my days in the Navy.

I highly reccomend this tour to everyone visiting Hawaii, expecially fellow Navy vets.

I'm no history buff nor do I have an interest in battleships, but the "Explorer's Tour" of the USS Missouri was awesome!  We got access to exclusive areas below the deck.  Got to see the inner workings of the "Mighty Mo."  It was also amazing to be on the "Surrender Deck, " where the military leaders signed the document to end WWII.

We decided to check this out because we had some time left on our island visit, found some super coupons, and this actually sounded like fun... and it was!  Since no bags are allowed (like at the USS Arizona Memorial), they give you a complimentary water bottle on a lanyard which comes in handy during the two-hour tour.

Go to the Bowfin Memorial area at the USS Arizona Memorial to purchase tickets for the Missouri, then catch a trolley.

The last battleship ever built and the last to serve in the active Navy, this is a must see for anybody visiting Honolulu.  Even if you are not a military enthusiast, this floating museum will open your eyes to navel power of World War Two and what our Navy had to endure to win the war in the pacific.  I highly recommend the upgraded tours - especially the "Explorer".  You will be able to see many areas of the ship not seen by the self guided tour.  The tour guides are volunteers so be sure to tip them.

I was onboard the USS Missouri back on July 4th weekend in 1999. It was a very nice visit. I went with a tour group, and we also went to see the USS Arizona.   What I recall the most was actually seeing things where history took place.   I recall you had to climb the same ladders the sailors did, so some of the olders members of our group had problems.

Great place to see a little bit of our nation's history.  The $10 entry fee (military discount) gives you access to the USS Missouri.  Spent about 90 minutes there crawling through the insides of the battleship.  Cool excursion if you have the time.
