Ice hockey is the best sporting event to watch live. But the Canes River Center is by far the worst venue. Parking is terrible. No glass seating. And you can not bring any noise makers. Hello Hockey and Cowbells are one.

Even if you like the act or event that the Canes River Center is hosting, reconsider going. The event management and staff can't really be described as anything but lazy, disinterested and incompetent.

We recently spent a lot to see a popular comedian and ended up waiting nearly 45 minutes in line to get into a single entry point. Then, even though we printed out tickets and left our cell phones in the car as it was a cell phone free event, the scanner would not scan our tickets and we were asked to get out of line and go to the box office to get them reprinted. A box office line that about 40 people deep after the show had already started and 2 people working the booths. This knowing that several people were also dealing with ticket issues due to a change in room.

What had happened was that they down graded the venue to the Ballroom (which is more like a school cafeteria) and neglected to update several people's seats. Or even email or call about it before the event.

The event started at 7 and they were still seating several people, us included, after 8. I can't imagine what it looked like with only the couple thousand people that they tried to squeeze in there before us.

Worst venue ever! Sad because I can't give it zero stars!!! RUDE employees! I didn't know you had to have a clear purse and I was yelled at for not knowing this in advance....water costs $6....no toilet paper in the bathrooms, and did I say RUDE workers. If I were Cane's , I wouldn't want my name associated with this venue! Everyone on our sports team felt abused by the time we entered the door

I really enjoyed coming here to see this concert ( The Newsboys ) the arena is not that large so there are no bad seats in the house. Very clean atmosphere. Plenty of concessions and bathrooms. The sound system and lighting is state of the art and looks and sounds great. Seats are padded and easy to fit in, I just wish they were a little wider. Looking forward to coming back and seeing another concert.

We were lucky enough to come here and see Dr Tony Evans preach as well. He is absolutely amazing and the arena did a great job with providing a atmosphere for him to deliver his powerful message.

"Pageants, concerts, live performances, ice skating & more". This is a multi-purpose venue in downtown Baton Rouge where many huge events have taken place. This weekend (June 8, 2014), the River Center will be the site for the 2014 Miss USA pageant. Just last night, I was in attendance for the Miss USA Preliminary Competition and the sets/backdrops were unbelievable... I was in awe! It was amazing to see the sets capture the essence of Louisiana. Make sure to check out my photos from the evening! It was an honor for me to be in attendance of such an epic event. Set production crew worked very hard on everything which was purely magnificent!

Well, aside from the pageantry, this venue is versatile... during the winter months, they open it up to the public for ice skating and of course concerts & live theater during the rest of the year. I have enjoyed some fantastic concerts here and in comparison to other venues I have been to in the past, it is very low-key meaning it is easy to get in and out of the venue and parking is closely accessible. Since it is downtown, you can easily walk to other landmarks close by: USS Kidd, Louisiana Art & Science Museum, the Old State Capitol, the Capitol, the Mississippi River plus some great eateries! Make sure to stay up-to-date with their calendar and don't miss out on some of your favorite acts!

I've been to a lot of different arena venues and this was among the worst. Cane's should either give them more money or pull out because you don't want your name affiliated with this. The seats are atrocious. The people behind us said their legs were going numb, and I had to agree. There's no padding, and they are just slightly too low.

But the worst part was the heat. It must've been 85 degrees in there. Everyone was complaining about it and a woman in the bathroom said it's always like that. Usually when you go to a venue you have to bring a sweater. Here, people were practically stripping off to their underwear.

It's a small venue and could be really nice. The name - The River Center - made me think it's really high class. Not at all.

I've been here several times for several different things. The River Center hosts a wide variety of events. Every December you can ice skate here. They also put on concerts, shows and sport events. The arena isn't that large, so no matter where you sit, you can see good. Ive seen Monster Jam here, skating on ice, Harlem globetrotter and a few concerts. They do well with events. I've also done some bridal shows here as well. It's a good venue, with lots of parking.

If you are planning to go to the Dinosaur exhibit...Don't! Simply pure incompetence of the event staff, horrible communication, poor customer service...and that's just to start.

The exhibits are designed for three year olds. Save your time and money...go see a movie.

      Updated review

I have been to the River Center for several events, to name a few: The Escape, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, and Miss USA Preliminaries. The seats are okay, some are more comfortable than others, there is usually plenty of seating depending on the event and the walkways and restrooms are usually adequately clean. The food for purchase is limited to marked up disgusting concession food and the bottled water vending machines are ridiculously priced at $4 a bottle. The last time I swiped my card in the bottled water vending machine it didn't even dispense! The events are usually worth the time, but bring your own food and water if you can.
