Small museum right on the beach. I recently went for their Russian Art exhibit and I was blown away. As a past art history student, it takes a lot to blow me away. The curator really utilized the white space and turned into a little maze of Russia. The artwork was thought provoking and unique.

The Bass is one of my favorite museums in South Florida. Each year they manage to have an exhibit so cool it keeps me yammering on and on for months after I've seen it. Heck, I saw the Marilyn Monroe exhibit years ago and I'm STILL talking about it. This museum is quaint, making it the perfect size for a quickie culture load-up. (Read: You won't be here all day and night wondering around looking at giant red dots deemed art.) You can get your fix, get it fast and then get over to the beach.
They also have a host of cocktail-esque events, so you can meet other art admirers and still feel like a South Beach social butterfly. And after soaking in all that culture, you won't feel so bad when you go home and catch up on the new "90210" from Tuesday night.

This comparably small art museum is aesthetically appealing . I have enjoyed fine Old Master paintings there over the years from their permanent collection.Old Masters with fine paintings at the Bass Art Museum include;Master of the Borghese Tondo,Domenico Ghirlandaio and Sandro Botticelli("Coronation of Virgin"),Cornelius Van Haarlem,Peter Paul Rubens("Holy Family"),Ferdinand Bol("Venus and Adonis")Benjamin West, and the Austrian,Eduoard Veith("Holy Family").This art museum has a pair of wonderful Flemish tapestries(hunting scenes). It has a nice collection of paintings by the French Impressionist,Armand Guillaumin which were not on display when I visited the Bass Art Museum a few days ago.It also has splendid temporary exhibits of Modern and Contemporary Art quite often. So enjoy this less discovered South Florida gem.
This is a small art museum in Miami Beach. It is quite interesting in that it takes you from period to the other. In one room you may have renaissance period collections and in the other contemporary collections. It really is unique to any other museum I have seen. I even signed up for the newsletter and plan to attend their lectures and events.

I don't quite have the knowledge about the building as Peter M. but this place is certainly worth our patronage. We have visited several times and thoroughly enjoyed their exhibits. It is small enough to be able to tour it in an afternoon and still have time to hit a local jaunt - and it is always interesting and enriching. Wonderful location, and art will always make you feel better.

This is a wonderful museum that occupies what was originally the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center. which was designed in 1930 by Russell Pancoast, grandson of Miami Beach pioneer John A. Collins. An addition, designed by architect Arata Isosaki, was added in 2001. The Bass is the only encyclopedic art museum in the region with a collection of over 3,000 works. The museum offers an annual schedule of exhibitions that draw on its own holdings as well as loans from other institutions and private collections. See http://bassmuseum.org
