I personally think King can play very well and does. He puts on a whole show right there on the street by himself. I think it's very impressive and I think he is a cool part of this city.
I also have to admire Matt from Jazz who moved the window back so King would be standing on HIS property and not city property. Yes, the city was trying to get him to move along. Not sure where King is these days though, now that Jazz is Roux.

People like Gerry Van King, The King of Sixth Street make Austin a fun place to live. I love seeing him around and I love that he's just a nice man who loves sharing music and playing bass and making people happy. He's also got an AWESOME video that used to play on AMN.
When you can't find him on 6th Street, you can find him on youtube http://www.youtube.com...

Bass Dude can't play at all, but he gets 3 points just for having awesome sunglasses.
Don't his sunglasses remind you of the sunglasses that Mean Homeless Guy With Dog makes his dog wear?

I saw a documentary about this guy (well, it was really about the old incarnation of the San Jose on South Congress, but he was one of the residents), and I have to say that's the only real reason I like him. That and it's a good place to pause and gather your thoughts and friends when deciding where to go next on the street.
Just FYI, he goes by The King of Sixth Street (hence the crown) and has put out an album.
This guy is awesome. He smiles a lot and he will make you smile.

Just goes to show that if you do something long enough, you too can become an Austin staple!
Has anyone else ever noticed that this dude can't actually play?
Three stars for sticking with it!
