The run down strip mall that this restaurant is located in does not make you feel like you are about to have an excellent italian meal. However, I don't think you will be disappointed with the food. I had the gorgonzola ravioli's and wow....so good. Very rich, and not calorie conscious, but wow. Cut up pieces of fig added the perfect sweetness.
The wine selection is extensive, and reasonably priced for a restaurant. My only complaint is that when you are finished with your meal, that is when the prompt service drops off. It seemed like they waited for us to ask for the check, but it was fairly difficult to get their attention.
i had been to this restaurant years before when a friend suggested it. i loved it then, and after having returned this weekend, i can say i still love it!
to start we had the burrata w/ prosciutto. the burrata was not as creamy as i would have liked. HOWEVER, the prosciutto was creamy and melted in your mouth.
my friend ordered their fettucini w/ crispy prosciutto, the crispy prosciutto would give the best bacon in the world a run for its money. we were fishing it off her plate until she started threatening us with her fork.
my other friend ordered the snapper special, one of the best pieces of fish i have ever had. it had a creamy tomato sauce over it that was not too rich and still allowed the fish to feel light.
my hubby ordered the osso bucco - def. the least favorite of the dishes. the meat was just alright, i think it had not been cooked long enough or slow enough b/c the marrow was kind of hard to get out and the risotto was kind of eh.
i ordered the spinach fettucini after having seen it on some of the reviews, it was delicious, however, i dont usually order creamy pasta dishes so after a few bites it was just too much for me. the shrimp on the pasta though were really good, fresh and perfectly cooked.
we didn't have dessert b/c we were really stuffed but i was curious about some of them.
very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food
We flew into Miami late and stayed by the airport. Based on other Yelp reviews, we went to Basilico for dinner. It was an overall great experience. Do not be fooled by the location. It feels like a neighborhood restaurant or like being at my Italian husband's Aunt Lena's. We had beef carpaccio, spinach salad and fruiti d'mare pasta. All was wonderful.
I agree with everyone this place is great. The only drawback is the location which is deceiving becuase it is in a ratty little strip mall next to a hair salon and subragous. So with that said, when you go in you're transported into a dimly lit, decent little restaurant with a wood trim bar, white table clothes, great service and an even better menu and wine list. You won't be dissappointed! Although the filet and rissotto is a must try they also have this chicken stuffed with spinach, sundried tomatoes, and riccotta with a mushroom sauce served over home-made mash, amazing!!
I had made arrangements to pick up a friend who was flying into MIA for a 5 hour layover, take her to dinner, go shopping and then drop her back to the airport. Yay! But where to eat? Like a ray of light in the darkness, I had the good fortune to read Sabrina's review which she posted the day I was doing the airport fun run and immediately decided that this was going to be the place. The photo's Sabrina took of the Spinach Fettuccini dish together with the great reviews from solid Yelpers Jordan and Eddy were what sold me. I just had to go get me some of that.
We arrived at about 7p.m. and there were only two tables seated, both of which were almost through with their dinner so I didn't feel so bad that I had my two little monsters with me before the dinner crowd arrived. Water and bread was delivered to the table immediately. The warm crusty bread was sweet and very quickly demolished.
The menu is not overwhelming which I like and the contents of each dish are explained well. It has something for everyone and even made some plain spaghetti with marinara sauce on the side for the kids even though there are no kid dishes on the menu - they should seriously consider bottling that homemade sauce.
We decided on the grilled Portobello with Prosciutto, tomato and mozzarella with a balsamic reduction to share to start. Then of course I had the spinach fettuccini in the creamy lobster sauce with shrimp and mushrooms. Sara had spaghetti pasta tossed with crispy asparagus, Portobello and shrimp.
All the food was top class excellent, fresh, tasty. Nothing needed further seasoning. The field greens accompanying the grilled Portobello appetizer were dressed in a very light fruity olive oil - very simple but oh so tasty. My spinach fettuccini dish was EXACTLY like in the photograph :) I couldn't finish it so the portions are a fair size.
The check was very reasonable for the quality of the food.
Service was attentive, casual and friendly. Water was topped up regularly. Clean silverware brought between courses.
I like it. Definitely a keeper.
Dear Basilico,
You are truly a diamond in the rough! After a long day and many errands that found me in the Doral/Airport area, I was starving an knew I needed to eat ASAP. As the bf came to scoop me up from my location, he saw the look of desperate hunger upon my face. FEED ME, I cried! It was 7:15pm at this point, and a drive to Palmetto Bay was not looking appealing.
So my wonderful man suggested this amazing place that he often lunches at and is friendly with the staff. Once I heard the golden words "Italian Restaurant", I knew I was going to be hooked.
Located within a strip mall, this restaurant is very unsuspecting. One would not think to find such a gem in this hustle and bustle, right across the street from the M.I.A. But if you are in the area, or even if you're not, I HIGHLY suggest you go! This place gets packed!!!
Once inside, you feel transformed in time and place. The inside is decorated simply and elegantly, with a very nice bar area with a wine display, however, the place is small in size. The service is perfectly on point, very accommodating and doting, without being overwhelmingly in your face. The servers are very knowledgeable on the dishes and wines. And I even had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners (owned by 2 brothers apparently), Luciano. He was very pleasant, and extremely hands on. He was one of the servers! :)
The food is just phenomenal, but where to begin?!?! We started with wine, which we allowed Luciano to suggest. Let me tell you, one of the best bottles of wine I have had. A 2004 Malbec from Argentina, named Piedra Negra (Black Rock). Once that was selected, we began with the appetizer special, which was burrata. If you've never tried burrata and you have the chance, order it! It's this delicious mozzarella cheese, that is extra creamy and soft, a bit different from regular mozzarella. It came with Prosciutto and fresh sliced tomatoes, with olive oil and fresh ground pepper drizzled on top.
While we enjoyed our wine and burrata, we perused the menu, still trying to decide what we would order. Finally, I settled on the Linguini Vongole and the bf had some kind of a spinach fettuccine with shrimp and mushrooms in a lobster sauce. Both dishes were just TO DIE FOR! We each had a few bites left, which most people would leave, but we boxed it for midnight snack purposes.
Thank you Basilico for your warm hospitality and breath of fresh air in this most random location in Miami. Thank you for reasonable prices and delectable dishes. :) We will definitely be back, regardless of where we are. You will definitely come to know us as Regulars! ;-)
See you very soon!
Sincerely,
Sabrina*
If you aren't familiar with Argentina, there's two things to know. They love soccer and they love Italian food. Basilico is your traditional italian restaurant but with the argentine twist.
Their meats vary from chicken to beef to veal to seafood. All with an average price range of $15+ to just over $20 per plate. Their pastas are quite soft and cooked right. The mashed potato is creamy and thick. But the magic lies in their sauces which amplify the flavor of their dishes perfectly.
what keeps it from being a 5-star is their location. the strip plaza's parking lot is small and its usually full around lunch time nearly every weekday, but during weeknights it's much more roomier. Dinner is recommended here.
Very good Italian food. The staff is great. I've been here many times and never had an issue. The price is very reasonable. They make a very good grilled chicken breast with mixed greens salad.
I think this is one of a very good Italian restaurant Miami has to offer, especially for the price (you'll be hard-pressed to find something over 18 dollars unless if you're getting a bottle of wine).
The pasta dishes here seem to be cooked al dente, the way it should be. The other dishes seems to be well made too, but I think the pasta dishes may be the strengths of the restaurant.
The other dishes that was also good was the stuffed chicken. While it was a strong flavor, I'm sure this dish would have done better with the advertised spinach in the stuffing (curses the e. coli breakout for not making the spinach available to complement the flavor better). So... in this case, the restaurant is forgiven.
The linguini alla voglone is good linguine with white clams. It is one of my favorite Italian dish of all time, yet it is also a very simple dish.
I've heard from other sources that the seafood linguini is spectacular. So if you visit, do try that one out!
This is formal dining with low prices. It is located in a nondescript strip mall, and the restaurant is pretty small. And personally, I think small restaurants may allow the cooks to focus more on their cooking.
Recommended.
