this place makes yummy sandwiches.
the atmosphere isn't bad.
i ordered tea, but my friends (who are coffee snobs) said that they have good coffee, too.
my complaint is that they don't have real coffee mugs for enjoying your coffee while you're there....they use 'to go' cups. this seems pretty idiosyncratic when my sandwich was served on really hearty diner ware plate.
Great little cafe! I'm not a coffee drinker, but when my mother visited she got their coffee every morning. I love to stop there for lunch or dinner. Really good salads and sandwiches. A little bit pricier than I would like, but always very good.
The atmosphere is great and it has a very nice neighborhoody feel.
Living in Hamilton Park, we go to Basic a few times a week. From what I understand the place has new owners, which may explain some of the different faces referred to in the other reviews.
I love the coffee here, some of the best I've found in all of JC.
The Chicken Pot Pie is also fantastic, and I've had it a few times. The breakfast burrito is less fantastic and has been a little watery on ocassion.

The biggest problem I have with this place, is that the new owners (in fact all the staff there) seem to be miserable most of the time. I say thank you every time I leave and have never had a single response. I go in there at least twice a week, and yet they've never said 'hello' or recognize that I (like most of the people in there) are regulars/local residents supporting their business. -- it's ALMOST enough to make me not want to go back, but their amazing coffee and WiFi keeping pulling me back in.
i agree with Caroline..the food on the counter should be covered, it's just out in the open all day long..eww.
Well, the coffee is still pretty good and they sell home made soaps that are divine, I bought a ton of them and gave them away as gifts!

Since this place is 2 blocks from me it's my go-to afternoon sandwich place. I'm addicted to the chicken club. If you're local to the area it's a great place to stop by for coffee, a snack, or a quick lunch. It has that quaint neighborhood cafe feel.

I used to love this place, but lately it's just not been the same.
The friendly girl with the wacky glasses has gone, and in her place there's this sour-faced red-head guy who barely makes eye contact when he takes your order... I've actually walked out of here on a couple of occasions because I can't stand sulky attitudes with my coffee.
The food and drinks however are good though. A varied menu of soups, salads & sandwiches, and fresh baked goods. Just wish they'd cover up the baked goods on the counter, as it's really not very hygienic to have flies landing on them!
I LOVE this place! The service is quick, the food served is always fresh and tasty, and their drinks were delicious. I've had a quick breakfast and lunch here many times. Highly recommended.
Basic Coffee's a pretty cool place. The coffee always good. I haven't eaten there but from what I see it looks fresh. The place does get a crowd but the line moves. I wish they would open a little earlier.
Think the place has gone down hill with the new owners. Lot of attitude and they mess up my simple order very often. When I called to complain, I was hungup on. So, I went back, the counter person was like too bad. I also overheard a customer talking about the seafood soup being bad. Ask them to read back the order, and don't expect a thank you.
