Bascom Animal Hospital is the BEST!  Dr. Vieyra, Dr. Reed and Dr. K. are all extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and kind  beyond belief.  I have both cats and dogs and have had nothing but the best care (and caring) there.  The vet techs are excellent and very gentle.  I was made especially aware of this with the care of my 14 year old cat that I was certain would not make it.  With the love  and expertise of Dr. Vieyra and Danny (her vet tech and definitely caregiver) she pulled through.  I am so grateful to them all.  The front office staff is equally great--very friendly and supportive.
Kudos to Bascom doctors, techs and staff.

SHORT VERSION: This place is disorganized to the point of malpractice (one example: they mistook our dog for another dog on various occasions). We felt like we were paying for the vet's kids college fund because we were ALWAYS sold the most expensive medicine yet, as we found out when we started seeing a new vet, not the best one for our dog. The front desk staff is rude and made us wait (along with a waiting room full of other customers) over an hour on various occasions to "prepare the bill". DON'T GO HERE! There are way more helpful vets in the area that won't take your pocketbook for a ride!!!!

LONG VERSION: We adopted a doggie who had a common dog condition that required regular treatment. We were referred to Bascom by 2 knowledgable people who I now think must have been smoking crack at the time. We went to Bascom for about a year (from 7/06 to 7/07). I tried so many times to give them the benefit of the doubt- after all doggie cannot tell us where it hurts so its not a big surprise if the vet doesn't always figure it out the first time. But no more benefit of the doubt after what we went through- now I'm just pissed off.

First problem: When we adopted doggie we did not know she had a condition. We went to see Dr Vierya for a physical to check on her health- we are on a moderate income and don't have a lot of $$ to blow on vet bills. Oh well.... Goodbye 401k because Dr V told us everything was fine.

After a few weeks it was clear it was not fine. We made an appointment with another vet at Bascom, Dr K, who told us doggie had a common doggie condition and had it bad. By this time we could not take doggie back  to adoption center and, even if we could, she was already a part of our family and we were madly devoted to her.

2nd problem: Consistently sold us most expensive antibiotics, flea meds, and other meds, even though we made it clear we didn't have a lot of $$ to blow.

3rd problem: They mixed up doggies lab results with another dog. It was also common for them to say weird things that made us think that they had her confused with another dog that must look like her. For example- "Oh she looks so much better. The hair around her eyes grew back!" when she always had hair around her eyes. Ummmm... what are you talking about?

4th problem: They told me to increase doggie's medicine, which I did. Doggie was having a reaction- she seemed to have lost control of the lower half of her body and was really distressed for a few hours. Thank God it passed because the vet took 12 hours to call me back. They called at 10:00 at night. Are you kidding me???

5th problem: The front desk staff sucks. They call you to pick up doggie, and when you get there you still have to wait OVER AN HOUR while they "prepare your bill". Judging by the 10 other people in the waiting room, they are waiting for their bill too. They once tried to charge us twice for a really expensive treatment and proceeded to argue with my fiance about it. One of the receptionists once told me that, if I was concerned about price, I should just buy dog insurance. Uhhhh- or maybe you should go to charm school and/or stop trying to rip me off beeyatch!

The only good thing I can say about Bascom is their vet techs are very helpful.

There are more stories than this but I won't bore you more than I already have. Doggie is now seeing a new kind vet that actually has been able to help her condition. All that $$ we spent at Bascom and doggie's condition was still out of control. Just thinking about our experiences there makes me want to take up boxing!!!! DON'T GO TO BASCOM ANIMAL HOSPITAL!

My dog HATES to go to the vet, but the great staff here is very understanding, kind, and patient with him.  Good thing, too, because he bounces off the walls no matter what.  This place is tiny, but the staff and doctors really seem to like and enjoy the animals in their care.  They have a pet "office cat" that usually lolls around on the reception area countertop.  Time in the waiting room is short, and the prices are reasonable for vet care.

This is not my normal vet but I took my dog their to get neutered based on good reviews and the clinic pricing. The preformed the surgery at a low cost to me which was apreciated but more importantly I was comfertable with leaving my dog their for the prosedure. The staff is warm and friendly and my dog seemed to love them. They called throughout the day to update me on his condition and they called the day after I took him home to see how he was feeling. I only take away stars because despite their prices being the best in the area I still though it was a steep cost and the waiting room is ridiculously crowded.

This is a review for emergency veterinarian care for a torn rabbit toenail.
We have a house rabbit (he's litter trained!) and one Sunday night around 8:30, I noticed little raspberry covered smudges on the kitchen linoleum--my bunny had pulled a toenail on the carpet!!!  On our regular vet's recommendation, we visited this vet.  My experience was very different from some of the other yelpers:
1)  The staff was very courteous and professional.  The receptionist was very busy but responsive to all of our questions.
2)  When we got in to see the vet, he was very friendly and extremely gentle with our rabbit.  Our bunny really doesn't like to be manhandled and the vet was skilled at limiting the bunny's flailing without being too aggressive or rough.
3)  Yes, we waited a long time but that's because they're busy.  If you go to a "people ER", you're going to wait a LONG time, in  my experience, the vet is no different.  Add to this the limited number of emergency vets and you get a longer wait--I guess it wasn't as annoying to me because it wasn't a life-or-death situation and because I went in expecting a wait.  Be prepared for your wait time to be extended because incoming animals may be in worse shape than your pet.
4)  When we were there their base emergency-vet fee was $90--we weren't charged anything above that.
PS--bunny was fine and actually didn't need much doctorin' other than observation!  GO TEAM BUNNY!

Actually I give it -1 stars!!!

So heres my story...
I was seventeen, the parents were out of town.  My dog of 11years wasnt eating and wasnt moving, and it was nine o'clock at night.  So I took her to the emergency vet.  After waiting for about an hour to hear any news, while sobbing in the waiting room the vet came out.  She asked me where the adults were.  I said it was just me and my parents were out of town.  She then tells me that she cant give me any information about my dog because I was not 18!! Ok...so this was MY dog and I drove her there and paid!!! So get this...I had to call my dads friend at 10:30 at night to drive over so I could have a guardian and therefore get information!!!! Ok...Tom gets to the vet...That woman comes back out.  She then proceeds to tell me that "your dog has a tumor on her spleen and you might as well just put her to sleep now because she's going to die anyway"  WHAT???? Who talks like that???  I told her NO and I want to take my dog home and to my regular vet the next day...ok so guess what happened next...She wouldnt release my dog into my custody!!!!! My parents had to fly home the next day and go themselves to pick her up!!! It was a horrible experience and little did that woman know that we were friends with someone on the board for that particular clinic...I reported her...And I hope she got fired!!!

Oh and in case your wondering...my dog lived another 4 happy years!!!

My cat and I arrived here after our 30-hour roadtrip bedraggled and he with a large infection that needed tending to.  The folks here took great care of us at a reasonable price, and after boarding him there for a couple of days, he didn't have that icky "I've been at the vet" smell about him that has happened before.  It's a small place and the waiting room is crowded, but the company is great and the service fantastic, they call you back faster than my mom.  I'm very grateful for their help!
