Review Highlights
5 stars and a big ass HIGH FIVE for one of the best iced coffees in the city.
I live right by this place and go several times a week. Great selection. As Christine C said, COFFEE ICE CUBES! Why isn't everyone doing this? It never waters down! It's the gift that keeps on giving!
I heard good comments about this place. I've never been here, because they open LATE and close EARLY... weird.
I leave at 8 am and get home around 7pm.. always close!
Please, if you sell coffee, you must to be open at 7am.
My friend goes here to buy coffee beans. I don't drink coffee, so I have no emotional reaction to our trip here.
But when I get inside, I find a large selection of dried fruit. Who doesn't love a large selection of dried fruit? I bought reasonably priced dried apples and dried bananas. Yum.
Cute, convenient, friendly store. I like!
Oh, Baruir! You're near my office.
You're waiting for me, right there, when I get off the 7. I'm usually late to work, so it's nice of you to sit there, so close.
Your staff is nice and old. They didn't make fun of me or scoff when I asked how to pronounce your name.
You serve iced coffee. But not just any iced coffee. You serve me iced coffee that is iced with coffee ice-cubes.
You are my 2008 Summer Sweetheart.
This place is the best for affordable coffee. They have a wide selection of freshly roasted beans to buy whole or freshly ground. I love the Mocha-Java.
In the summer, come here for the ice coffee. Their ice cubes are made of coffee! The owners and staff are incredibly nice and helpful.
This is also a good spot to find specialty goods like canned foul mudammas and candied fruits.
Good beans. I actually favor the flavored - the Irish Cream, Hazelnut and Chocolate Raspberry are especially good. Warning - the roast seems to be dark no matter what they say. Be ready for a punch! Since the roaster is right near the entrance, and is often on, this place smells like heaven. The Armenian-Romanian-Colombian family that own this place are real old school. On occassion I will pick up a cup on my way to the subway. IF the pot of coffee is fresh, the stuff is good. They use a regular old 8 or 10 cup machine and leave the carafe on the burner. Oh no! Make sure you look before you buy. One other gripe - many a time I have bought an iced coffee, it was served in a -grrrrrr! - styrofoam cup. No can do.
This is the only place that I've been to that sells iced coffee with HOMEMADE iced coffee cubes! It's simply a delight.
Whenever I pass by Sunnyside, I got to stop at Baruir's for my Armenian cooking ingredients, the delicious Armenian lahmajun which my sons love. I always have a dozen in the freezer. Everything is fresh.
I love coffee @ Baruir's.
Especially capputino that the lady of the house?makes really is the best thing !
( it tastes totally different when someone else make them, and she is not in all the time..)
there are other dissapointment..such as
the place is not open before 9.. i cant grab and go to work.. .. :-(
if you see carefully.. some stuffs in the store has been there for ages- like chocolate- i would never buy them- it is too close to expiration date:-(
but the coffee!!!! is just soooo GOOD!!!!
This is a fantastic, cheap shop in which you can buy perfectly roasted coffee beans. They have plenty of varieties and will grind it for you if you like. They also have a small selection of European sweets, cheeses, and canned goods. The staff is efficient and friendly, which isn't always great. I'd prefer they slow it down a bit so I could linger. The smell of roasting coffee is heaven.
Baruir's is a great little secret in my neighborhood which is definitely lacking in places to eat. It's a small little coffee shop that's been open since 1966 that also carries middle eastern and European foods. In the summer you can get iced coffee which is served with ice cubes made of coffee, and that means no diluting, just coffee taste. The coffee is really good, perfectly roasted. its nice when you have other options besides Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks.
I simply love this place because they will grind your coffee so fine that you can make Turkish coffee. I only drink Turkish coffee at home and so many stores do not have the equipment to grind the beans so fine. They also sell other European necessities. I buy the fillo dough, feta cheese and sometimes the dried apples. Everything is yummy.
Baruir's coffee is excellent. It's great to see an actual roasting machine in the store! The scent of fresh-ground coffee in there is intoxicating. They grind my Columbian Supremo to a fine powder, hand it to me with a smile, and there's never any waiting; take a hike, Starbucks! Oh, also, you can get fantastic nuts, dried fruits, jams, chocolate, sodas and other extremely unusual Armenian/Romanian/Bulgarian/Turkish treats.
I'm almost sad someone already gave that secret away, but the ppl who work there are really nice and I'd like to see them get business. I'm sure once ppl see their prices and taste what they have, they'll have no problem gettin more ppl hooked.
