Barry's was this Sunday's brunch of the week. The menu is on the boards behind the counter and in front of the counter. The front of the counter has a lot of the breakfast items and when I was ordering, I didn't really notice it. I ordered my breakfast off of the specials board though.

The pancakes here were really heavy and doughy. The eggs and bacon, however,  were great, according to my friend who I ate with. The patrons made it worth while. They were smiling and very friendly, striking up a conversation with us. The price was right. A breakfast for under $5 is great.

I will have to go back for a sandwich at lunch sometime.

The decor is DEFINITELY nothing to write home about.

You basically serve yourself. Cafeteria type trays, mad food choices, HOMESTYLE EVERYTHAAAAANG at it's best.

It gets 5 stars purely because the food is so tasty, the people are so damn friendly, it's such a kick ass and different place.

Barry's Deli, in Quincy's Wollaston neighborhood, is open on Sunday. It's their secret weapon, making it the place to go for a lazy weekend breakfast. The lackluster decor gives no cause for worry, since its ambiance comes from the patrons. Locals abound, and grins, greetings and waves pass between the laminated tables, and old friends crowd together and join others at their tables. Weekday mornings, the seats are always stocked with coffee-drinking pensioners.

Barry's was formerly famous for it's local-boy, family-run vibe, but that shifted a bit when the joint was sold a few years ago. It's still got good service and a nice crew, though, so don't let the original Barry's departure get you down.

Order your food at the deli counter, take a seat, and your food is brought out quickly, and usually without mistake. The grill is located behind the counter, with every step of food preparation exposed. Unlike other restaurants, the prep area is clean and neat and this exposure does nothing to dull the appetite.

The food itself is standard-fare American deli/diner, though the breakfast menu is a bit limited, compared to other options. No eggs Benedict found here, but the omelettes are surprisingly good. Barry's compensates with a solid, on-demand deli that offers catering and party platters.

When you go to a place like this you don't want mind-blowing innovation for your tastebuds, you want reliable, tasty American-style pancakes, roast-beef sandwiches and slabs of cheese.

I went here this past Saturday for lunch. I got a roast beef and cheese sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. My friend got American Chop Suey and my other friend got a veggie sub- and they raved about both.
The place is small, and I hear they do a great breakfast- I'd bet it gets really crowded on the weekends. But it's totally worth it- great food and a great price.

Barry's deli is a very nice little place to get a sandwich for your lunch hour, relax and read the paper.  Their Steak and Cheese with EXTRA EXTRA cheese is very good.  I also enjoyed their Hot pastrami on a bulkie roll with spicy mustard, or the regular mustard is good too.  Their potato salad is yummy as well.   This deli has a variety of sandwiches all served with a classic deli pickle.  The atmosphere is very nice but the music is a little too loud, however I do like their choice of radio station MAGIC 106.7.  So Barry, lower the music a little bit and maybe  you'll get 5 stars from your next customer.
