Now this is a REAL bar!
Yes, yes. Another stop on our PJ Pub Crawl. But this one was good. Good old classic 90s music. Good bartenders. Good beer. Just a good hang out spot.
The place was packed too. But it's big enough that we were able to snag seats by the bar.
Hope to be back soon. Especially to play pool and possibly darts.
I thought I'd already reviewed this place! I came here with friends about 3 or 4 weeks ago on a Friday night. We had dinner in the Grove and decided to wander and find a place to have 1 last beverage before calling it a night. Since none of us were overly familiar with this area, we wandered around and happened to spot Barracuda on a side street. It looked cool from a distance and the place looked busy which is always a good sign. As we got closer we noticed the beer pong table in the front window...Nice! The bouncer at the front door was holding a guy up by the collar of his shirt so he didn't fall over because he was so inebriated, while the guy stood there, swaying back and forth, slurring his speech and making his case as to why he was perfectly sober and just fine to go back inside and drink more with his buddies.
Inside, the place is eclectic to say the least. Random signs, old fishing gear and stuffed fishes hanging from the walls and ceilings, a few arcade games tucked into little nooks here an there, darts, a pool table and of course the aforementioned beer pong table. This place also seems to be packed with a wide gambit and age range of people from frat boys and college students to old hippies that look like they rolled right out of Woodstock, walked into this bar, pulled up a bar stool and never left. This place looks like it would always be a great spot to come for a good time and nearly always seems to have a theme night or drink special of some sort going on.
Last time I was here they had $3 Saki bombs. I don't know what kind of Saki or beer was in them, but you got nearly a 2 oz. shot of sake and a 16 oz. cup of beer for $3 so I'm sure it was somewhere between vinegar and kerosene on the quality scale. Didn't taste terrible, though. This bar showed up on the dreaded NBC 10 "Dirty Dining" list and was actually closed very briefly by the health department.; I think it says something when at least 1 Yelper said "You know what? That doesn't really surprise me, but it still wouldn't stop me from going to the 'Cuda". Touche!
I have spent many Thursday nights, Friday nights, possibly even a Saturday or 20 at Cudas! If you ever went to UM then you probably have partied at Cudas. Pitchers of beer are pretty cheap, you can buy wine by the glass, but I would say this is not really the place you want to drink wine. If you can get a spot on the beer pong table, get a good buzz on and go for the gold.
Thursday night, when school is in, it is definitely collage night. After midnight you can barley move because it is packed, shoulder to shoulder, with old friends saying hello, new friends flirting but mostly people getting their drink on. Beware people will spill on you!
A good little tip: If you can get a table by the bar, just wait for the cramped people to buy pitchers, when they turn around, and set it on your table for a second, fill up all of your cups. That's what we used to do and it worked like a charm! HA!
The door guy is really nice, and now you can't smoke inside which makes it a little bit nicer atmosphere. It can be a pretty locals only place in the summer and on weekends, good place to watch football and play drinking games.
I would recommend Cudas for a part of a bar crawl in the grove, or a dive bar-ish night with friends.
This place i LOVE when it comes to relaxing and just having fun without giving a care in the world. This is a college bar so the beer is cheap and the guys are hot. On Tuesday, ladies drink free beer from 10-2. Where can you find that on a Tuesday? They have beer pong table and darts plus pool table. The music is from the 90s but you can change it cuz it's from the jukebox. I would suggest you go there and just have fun.
Hey a college bar it is! If you are expecting anything more then move on to the faux foo foo places that abound in Miami.
Divealicious - good bar food, good bar fun and excellent prices on the beer you can get here. We have been here a handful of times to just chill unpretentiously with friends and it has been incredibly worth it.
Two thumbs up and a beer pong to you!
This was my home away from home for a good two years
I might be getting a little long on the tooth for this place now but eventually I'll be old enough to be one of the old guys at the bar that are always hanging out You know what I mean This place is either filled with college kids or grizzled veterans
Frankie has to be one of the coolest bartenders in all Miami
The food is simple and good The beer is always cheap The girls are easy to get along with
I liked this place for the price and the crowd, but the bathroom had either vomit or water all over the floor every night I was there.
Also, the beer pong tables are cool, but there were a couple nights when some douchebags were just camping on them and making all these stupid rules. It was completely retarded. They saw I had two pitchers, so "Challenger buys." Then they continued to be idiots and get far too excited over a dumb drinking game.
All in all, a decent bar. The grove seems to have a quality crowd that bar-crawls, so if you are in somewhere dead, check this place out.
It is a dive.. so what ? any given day I can park myself here and eat meaningless calories and enjoy good cheap bear and always good company.
We can come here and relax, enjoy good conversation, usually pretty good music and and cool chill crowd ...
I think about this place and I chill
I have to give it 4 stars for the great live music!! :) The band was highly entertaining and good!! Free beer for the ladies on Friday night till 10pm, which I was told changed from 11pm. Hmm? There was beer pong tables set up at the corner for those who want to drink from the bar's dirty floor...
Good crowd, typical bar with more guys than girls. The only thing that made me :( was the lack of ventilation. All the ceiling fans were not working!?!?!? I almost passed out in there.
Tip-bit:
Come for the music! :)
The Cuda as it is known to fans and locals is in the middle of the Grove. On any given day at any time you will find people hanging out, outside this longtime local favorite bar.
The food is better than one might expect in this divey establishment and you will have to go get it yourself at the bar sometimes. However, on a Sunday afternoon between the pool table, jukebox, television, the regulars, and the staff this place will win most people over. The casual, simple vibe of this place is what separates it from the rest.
This is a great Dive in the Grove. A SUPER HOLE IN THE WALL, I had walked by this place tons of times and never went in. I lived in the Grove for three years, and this was at the end of year 1 when I finally made my way in.
The place is TINY. No joke. Very small and close together. But look, any place that has a ready to play Beer Pong Table set up is #1 in my book!
It loses a star for 2 reasons, it smells really bad in there sometimes... All that spilt beer tends to smell nasty and make it hard to eat... And its small, sometimes I just want to sit and have a beer and the place is packed with college kids...
But still, I love this place!!!
Great little bar in Coconut Grove. It's tiny spot on a tiny street. They have a pretty good and extensive seafood menu. I had the fish sandwich. There's always a game on the tube, with the juke box running. Dark wood interior and the crowd is mixed and sometimes a little rowdy.
They're open till 3am, so anytime after 12am is a good time to check out the antics!
A definite gem of Coconut Grove : )
It's been a LONG time since I went to the Cuda, but man do I miss it. I've recently been referring to it in conversation. Since moving to San Diego, I've been looking for a bar similar to the Cuda, but have yet to find one that makes me feels so warm and fuzzy and one that has foos ball! Their food is so good, especially their chicken sandwich.
Next time I'm in Miami, you will find me here belly up to the foos ball table with a pitcher in hand.
As most of my friends went to the Unversity of Florida as did I (Go Gators!) we often refer to this dive as a Gainesville bar. It is not the cleanest place, not the nicest place, but it's a very cool site to hang out with friends and have some cheap drinks. They offer ladies night on Tuesdays and Fridays (I think) and a full house, often with live bands, for entertainment purposes. It's all right...
Cuda was the place to go on Thursday nights back when I attended UM. It's one of my favorite dive bars in the Grove because they actually have decent service unlike Sandbar; and unlike Sandbar, they have beer pong and arcades. The environment is very relaxed and cozy. On Thursday nights, it can get very rowdy though. Now that I'm out of college, I prefer Mr. Moe's on busy nights because you can sit outside in those awesome moveable benches. Cudas is a very good dive though and I recommend checking it out.
The Cudaaaaa!!! "Old Reliable", for sure. As another reviewer mentioned, pretty mixed crowd that can get a little rowdy no matter what day or time, but that's how I like 'em! Great food thanks, in part, to the very cool chef and amazing painter / artist, Brett Pendelbury, when he's there. It was the last place in the area where you could smoke inside but the law finally cracked down and it's not allowed anymore. Bouncers will enforce. But pay no mind, the outdoor crowd is just as fun even though the sidewalk's a little narrow! Cheap draught beer and a good selection of bottle beers, pool table, beer pong table, punching game, and sometimes the dart machine works. Great place to go and be your "crazy" self and not be judged!
ok this is the deal. im still hurt by the fact they took away their foosball table but 7$ pitchers? 2$ beers? thats a happy hour for sure. i spent like 3 hours (really happy) there on sunday with some good peeps right after bike miami... 2$ beers is a good reason to go to barracuda ... but bring the fooseball table back for the love of dracula!!!
