We stopped here for lunch after a tasting at Hopewell Valley Vineyards.
The service is pleasant and friendly.
After filling the water glasses and opening our wine (BYO), small rolls were served atop a garlicy olive oil base. The rolls were a bit dry, but the olive oil good.
We started with the breaded melanzane (breaded & fried eggplant alternating with slices of mozzerella and tomatoes, with a side of prosciutto; drizzled with balsamic). This was enormous and tasty.
The warm goat cheese salad was odd; we couldn't be certain that there was actually goat cheese in the fried rounds (it tasted more like ricotta). Caramelized walnuts, slices of tart but fresh granny smith apples, a sweet vinagrette.
The cavatelli with broccoli rabe and sausage was not good. The cavatelli was overcooked (mushy and chewy), the sausage undercooked. The broccoli rabe was mushy.
The place has potential. I'd rather eat here than at a chain restaurant, but it's sacriligious having overcooked pasta at an Italian place.
2 for lunch including tax before tip: $33
I frequented this restaurant looking for a good Italian meal but with no expectations and I was glad because I was extremely disappointed. This appeared to be a decent Italian restaurant given the atmosphere and the menu but the meal was extremely lacking. I have eaten at numerous good area Italian restaurants but I was unable to find any evidence in the cuisine that the chefs had ever tasted Italian food. I was eating with others and we all found the food generally unpalatable.
