Review from Jay B.
This casino is a liiiitttle off the beaten path, but it's a good getaway spot for a weekend. Pretty clean and very friendly environment; there's greeters everywhere, it almost gets a little eerie! ha ha ha.
Low limits, lots of tables and slots, clean rooms and nice views. You really couldn't ask for more. The food court is EXCELLENT, VERY affordable and very good! Best bang for you buck for sure :)
Only weird thing is that they do alot of electronic type gaming tables; it takes a little getting used to, but it's pretty cool. And I won; so it's all good! :) And of course, my complaint for any casino, NEVER enough Pai Gow tables! -

Barona Buffet Today a 5 hour wait. Mothers Day $30.00, regular day is $15.00 and a 10 minute wait.
SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!! First of all, the wait time in line was too long. Longer from what I've experience with other buffets. But horrible that the host escorted us to the dining room in which she didn't have a clue as to what tables were open to seat. Basically a tour of the dining room in search of a clean table. We went here and there and nothing.......and she finally saw that we were frustrated being lead around this way, she offered a booth closest to us that was not even cleaned yet. She told us to help ourselves to the buffet and it'll be cleaned by the time we came back. That just ruined my first time experience for us. Sitting there, we saw other guests being lead around in search for clean tables so I guess it's regular practice for them. Here's the irony, there were many open table in a whole section in plain view but it was not being sat. Maybe it was a reservation for a huge group or they just did not have the manpower but it didn't look good in my eyes.
FOOD - Just okay. Wouldn't have it again. Oysters were not fresh - dried look / Crab legs - same dry / Sushi rolls were stale
Brisket was good / Mongolian cooking was good. Of course, you choose your items
Been to better buffets. They need to go to the PALA buffet to see what I mean. -

I'm a definite regular here with my boyfriend and his family. The line for the buffet varies on different days as well as the times you get there. They've got a good selection of slot machines and other eateries if you want to opt out of the buffet - they've got some pretty cheap but worth your money type sh-t. 2 scoops of gelato for .50 cents, some delicious chinese food at HoWan, awesome prices for the Barona coffee and they've got some pretty damn good bahn mi.
The environment varies with the type of people that stroll in, but honestly, I have no problem with those around me. If you're the type whose picking about smokers and non-smokers, there's a small portion of the casino for non-smokers - but really, there's no way to really avoid the smell. -

I heart Baronas. Its only about 15 min from my house and there is always parking when I get there.
They have good food/deserts/drinks for cheap and everyone that works there with the exception of a few rotten apples is very nice.
I visit about once a month to play some poker and have fun with friends.
The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is they don't have a bar young adults can chill and be social at, but whatever.
Barona mi love you long time.. -

I hadn't been here in quite awhile, but recently this place seems to have improved quite a bit. The buffet wasn't bad at all - I actually preferred it to Harrah's (usually much more expensive also). There are lots of tables with low limits which I like. There are a lot of electronic gaming tables, which I'm still a bit unsure of... as long as they keep the traditional ones, I don't mind so much. This place seemed very smoke-filled inside... my eyes started burning pretty bad after awhile and my clothes stunk pretty bad afterwards.
Overall - not too bad... sometime, I'd like to give the hotel a shot... looks pretty nice! -

We have been going to Barona for many years. The Service is excellent and the employees are always very nice. The Sage Resturant and the Buffet are the best in the San Diego area. We have stayed at the Hotel and found it very enjoyable. My wife works for another Casino and perfersto stay and play at Barona. Thanks Barona for always making our visits a great experience.

Slots were new.. And the dealers were great. Plus we won! -

I was the biggest fan of barona until today and I blame that mostly on the customer service of the slot machine supervisor Debra.
There was a slot machine error saying that my mom had won the major progressive jack pot of around $590. So we were incredibly excited, only to find that the money was not credited. We played a few more spins wondering what was going on and finally someone came to help. The entire time, they didn't believe us and spoke to us as if we were children making up a story. They pressed some buttons and after only 5 minutes of trying said "sorry it must have never happened". Seriously? That's all you can do? Just shrug your shoulders and roll your eyes add you tell your coworkers? Debra, how did you even become a supervisor? Horrible, horrible customer service. -

So today, we decided to spend our Easter Sunday at barona's buffet. By far impressive and good as usual compared to spending close to $60 at Easter brunches hosted by high name branded hotels like Hyatt and Hilton.
Now on to my rant why Barona casino this time around gets my 1 star rating or should at least be 1/2 a star. We finished our Easter brunch and on the announcement speakers they have a special promotion going on called Rapid Fire where every 15 minutes someone wins a $1000 when a random machine gets chosen when using your club card. So supposedly my machine was picked and promotions manager came by to take down information from club card and drivers license and as well asked for my ssn. Unaware i thought i was in trouble , but they explained to me that my club card was randomly chosen and won the Rapid Fire Club Card Promotion for Easter. So waiting for the announcement on the speaker while their troops were running around making loud noise. I got a little excited. In the end waiting for about 20 minutes it came down to "oops it was an error." as much i wanted to curse them out or say bad things in words that will build up tensions. I decide not to and write this to share with everyone.
Winning a promotion or a jackpot to get your hype built up with smiles, comes down to a frown on the face and embarrassment in front of everyone around. So to everyone that reads this as well the management team at Barona. Barona, i am calling you out on this. Thanks for making my day that felt so good making me feel that i won $1000 on that rapid fire promotion today turn into the worst embarrassment ever at a casino, and making my self-esteem at an all time low. If you send a staff on the floor to grab your information and tell you that you won and in the end tell them its an error in the end wasting my time waiting for the win. You should at least make up for the compensation of why this was a mistake. You guys committed by far the worst false advertisement and false claim ever. A $1000 maybe a small win, but it can be expressed in happiness of a consumer or gambler. It does go a long way to make a person feel good about them self. Again thank you Barona for making this the worst day of embarrassment on Easter holiday. Never promote or advertise about a current promotion that you cannot fulfill even tho it was an error on your part. The customer is always right and should always be rewarded whether its a mistake. You guys gross in millions each year, and cannot commit to $1000 reward promotion even if it was a mistake. Remember my name Nicanor Ruiz you guys have my information. Will i ever come back to this casino, maybe not San Diego has other casinos that can fulfill mistakes just to make a customer happy and come back again. -

When i first came to this casino, I was expecting it to be similar to the Jackson Rancheria in Sacramento, CA. However, it was way bigger and nicer, i didn't get to stay here long because I had a flight to catch but this place is a good place to go if you haven't been in this area before. One thing I did not like about this place was that it was mostly machine based tables, like you would have to bet with chips through a machine and not with your hands. I get that its more synchronized but I am more of the hands on card/chip player.

Review from Andrew Y.
Palo Alto, CA
Note: this is the first and only casino I've been to so far.
I wrote a longer version of this review, but then I deleted it and decided to sum it up in a few key points:
1) Slots - I actually do go home with positive money sometimes, if I know when to stop.
2) Dealers - 4/5 are super friendly. Occasionally, there's one that just acts like a douche or is just having a bad day (which can ruin the whole table's mood). They help out newbies (give advice) and are generally fun to talk to.
3) Blackjack - this is the only game I really play, and I usually leave with more than I started with. Tables start at $5, and I've seen a few blackjack tables at $100 per hand (up to $10,000 I think). I've only ever played at the $5 table (you can bet up to $1000 at these tables)
I totalled all the money I've spent/won (I set limits on myself everytime I go, so the numbers are accurate) and it came out positive. It's a fun way to kill a day, but, as with any casino, winning is just a plus. You're going because you want to enjoy yourself and unwind with some light gambling, not because it's a way to earn money.
Oh - the food here is 4/5 stars too, especially for the price. I was pleasantly surprised by the buffet's quality ($21 for non-members, $16 for members. Membership is free!) and they have pretty cheap dishes at the food court (gelato for $0.50 per scoop anyone?) $1 "street style" tacos too. Pretty good. -

My dad celebrated his 70th Birthday at the Event Center, which is a separate building, near the golf course. The Tex-Mex lunch buffet menu was amazingly good! My mom didn't have a tasting before the party so she and our guests were very pleased with the food. We have been to other parties and receptions at other venues. This menu was the most memorable!
I normally don't like onion rings but the ones they served were crispy and tasty, not soggy and bland. The small corn on the cob seemed so simple but it was also a surprise. The salad was refreshing. The chicken was flavorful and the breasts were not dry. The steak was very tender and tasty. The price per person was approx. $30. I highly recommend this venue and caterer for any family event or reception.
Since the party was around the Christmas holiday season, we choose the Christmas decorations. The staff did a beautiful job.
The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was the room set up. It didn't match the diagram the event coordinator drew up for my mom. It was completely different. Luckily, the mistake didn't upset her so we just went with what was set up. Everyone had a great time! -

- 9/10 times, I leave with at least double my money. That 1/10 time, I lose it all. Womp womp.
- The greeters are nice...all they do is say hello though.
- The buffet is great, and the food court outside the buffet is great as well - they have quite a selection. I have yet to try the Italian restaurant.
- It looks like 2/10 people smoke, but it smells like 7/10 do. They have a "non-smoking" area but the only thing separating those areas is machines and air.
- I find this place to be filled with either really nice and friendly people, or rude and arrogant jerks.
Overall...I like. -

It may be the next best thing to Vegas for San Diegans, but it will rob you blind if you hit the tables.
The Good: Buffet, Restaurants, Free Soft Drinks, and Golf Course.
The Bad: Blackjack tables(for me LOL), Second hand smoke, and more second hand smoke. The backed-up traffic going down that long hill after you have lost all your money. (***sad faces***)
I'll get you back Barona, I promise! -

Who celebrates New Years at Barona!? That's right..old Asian people who love playing the slots!
...and me.
I know..a casino New Years is probably unoriginal and may slightly hint at the fact that I have a gambling problem but, truth be told, there isn't anything terribly wrong with unoriginality (There are reasons why things are repeated..just sayin. Except the jegging trend..THAT needs to die.) and though I may not have a gambling problem*, I fear that someone close to me does.
Barona was actually a pretty good location for the occasion though. Parking was easy, there wasn't any traffic and it was actually pretty fun to spend New Years playing blackjack with my friends up until midnight when free champagne was handed out and balloons and confetti fell from the ceiling!
They could have used more blackjack tables but, I'm assuming we waited 40 minutes for an open table because of the night we went which, was particularly busy for obvious reasons. Overall though, friendly dealers and plenty of tables with various minimum betting amounts. AND they have .50 cent gelato at the food court (I was SOLD).
Only true downside, is that there was ZERO alcohol served on New Years (wtf!?) except 5 minutes until the count down..where champagne (more like grape juice) was handed out. BUT, I won $35 at blackjack which, according to my calculations: if I play 11 more times and win $35 each time, I'll finally be able to buy that Marc Jacobs purse I've been eyeing--good enough for me!
HAPPY 2012!!!
*more like a gambling phase which, I will ignore until it becomes a gambling problem -
Review from Al S.
From a guy that used to live and then regularly visit Vegas, I'm not a big "Casino-Proponent." I can do without the noise, crowds, cigar and cigarette smoke, and congestion. So maybe because of the lack of all that, and outside of a moderate amount of cigarette smoke, I enjoyed our first trip to Barona Casino..... well, PLUS the fact that my wife and I each took $20 from my wallet, and within an hour, won $260 in slot machine winnings. And neither of us are gamblers.
The outside area of the property is more like a horse ranch, and much greener and inviting than the Palm Springs casinos I've visited. The staff greets you upon arriving and leaving. The casino is more plush than those Palm Spring - Indio properties. And for $16 and change you can do their AYCE buffet,
I can't believe it, but for any of our family from Brasil, I'd add this to our "SoCal Tour" where we "show family and friends the sights." For a casino sized like the State Line and Palm Spring area casinos... this one is a 5-star amongst the others being 2-3 star. It's worth stopping if you're in the area, and worth being a destination if you like casino action. -

The only reason why I come here is because of the buffet. Otherwise, I hate it. It stinks like cigarettes. They're non-smoking area still stinks. I'm not even sure if it was their non-smoking area because the stench just kept following me. I like to walk in, go straight to the buffet, and right out or else I can't breathe.
And we all decided to gamble for a second since we had to wait for the buffet and loosest slots my ass! -

Barona is probably one of my favorite casinos in san diego.
First of all they have a great selection of cheap eats. I already yelped about the 50 cent gelato. They also have added a Viet sandwich stand that is very affordable at 3.50. The food court has a good variety ranging from hamburgers to mexican and a chinese noodle place that looks decent with real chinese people cooking.
Surprisingly came here in new yrs eve and they even have 5.00 blackjack tables. Free entertainment of dueling pianos as well as balloons, confetti and even free champagne!
Lots of penny slots to chose from. Poker room is pretty spacious with lots of tvs in the room so you can watch your sports and play holdem. -
Review from Sara S.
I came here with my friends to eat at the buffet. It's reasonably priced (~$16 if you sign up for Club Barona) and has a lot of food choices. There's lots of seafood for a buffet. There's also a place to get crepes! It comes with a drink with refills too. :)
My friends also said the 50 cent gelato is delicious but we were too full to get it after the buffet. We only gambled a little bit (slots) and won nothing (of course). There's a lady that comes around with a bunch of free drinks and they had a random prize for someone playing that they got to go in a wind tunnel of cash and grab as much money as they could. Anyways, it was pretty fun. Even if you aren't a gambler, like my friends and I aren't, there's a bunch of fun stuff to do and watch. -

Elk Grove Village, IL
Since I didn't gamble, I can't fully rate the entire place, but the hotel is really nice! The room was very spacious: king size bed, a loveseat, and a chair. I loved that they have a Keurig in the room. :) It's great to have sliding doors in the room to allow for fresh air, too. Being from Chicago, it's awesome to be out here with the sliding door open, enjoying the weather in December. :)
Both the room and the bathroom are very clean, and it's always good to know there's free wi-fi (generally considered standard, but it's always nice to know for sure!).
Definitely try the $1 street tacos in the food court! Soooo good!
I also have to say, the staff goes out of their way to say hello and be helpful. I like that they never just walked past me without making a point to acknowledge me.
Note: Be careful driving up here: the road winds through the mountains, which is really pretty, but it's a small two lane road and it's very curvy. -

Maybe because I am not a gambler, no matter what casino I go to with friends I will never truly enjoy. The place smelled of smoke. Wish they had a club or a bar with happening music. This place seem to be for 50 and over folks. The buffet was ok. What can I say that night was a dull night.

This review has nothing to do with the quality of play or the sweet grandmas trolling for 50 year old men, but everything to do with the BUFFET!!! First, you gotta go get the classic member card (free), and that will get you into the buffet at 20% off. Pretty cheap, all things considered. Two people was around $33, but wait until you get your hands on that prime rib, asparagus, and most of all the endless crab legs! Pretty. Darn. Tootin'. Legit. Go!

Nice Casino, well organized with gracious staff. (Not stuffy or snooty).
The tables start at $5.00 and go beyond my comfort level. Nevertheless, the prices allow for a longer play experience.
The choices for food are varied and very reasonable. By NorCal standards, it is almost cheap.
The Poker room is well organized and state of the art with an ample amount of wide screens and different channels. The wait is not too bad and if you do have a wait you get a Pager. Cool, huh!
Had a great time (yeah, I won).
I would definetly go back and given the proximity to family. Surely will. -

I went here for the first time on Saturday and loved it. I'm no gambler or casino person by any means, but my boyfriend's a poker player. I was actually quite impressed with the place. The grounds/ casino are beautiful and they had TONS of slots and other games. The food court was pretty substantial, too, and we had a great dinner at their Sage Cafe. It was easily enough food for like 4 people for under $19.00...and it was quality, too! Even the restaurant was nice to look at and we had a a bunch of leftovers.
Oh, they're coffee was awesome, too. The staff was friendly and really knowledgeable.
Now, if only you could order a cocktail..... -
Review from Joshua S.
Poway, CA
They have a good poker room. They are all about customer service and the customer comes first. They have 'rack attack' for the NFL games at 1pm & 5pm on Sunday and the Monday night game. When either team scores a field goal, they draw 2 tables out of 15 and put $100 in the pot. When a team scores a touchdown, they draw 4 tables, and when there is a punt or kickoff returned for touchdown every table gets $100. If this happens to you, suggest to the table everyone put in $5 and check it down. Otherwise, if you're playing no-limit, you could lose your whole stack because a lot of people will shove for the $100. On Monday night recently, a punt was blocked for a touchdown. This wasn't a punt return, so the initial ruling was 4 tables for rack attack. Then the manager called back and gave it to everyone. The money comes out of the bad beat jackpot, which was at $56K at the time.
Another thing that is great is the food at their food court. Super cheap and good. Street tacos w/ guacamole for $1 each. Free drinks, coffee at their race track betting lounge across the poker room. You can order an ice cream for $0.50 and make it a float for free. I've played poker at a lot of places and this place is one of the best. -

Bigger than I was expecting. I live in Northern Nevada, so I was actually expecting Barona to be a lot smaller than what it was. I was thouroughly impressed not only of the area's size but the amount of slots and table games availible. The food court was also a great place to get some food. Would definetly go again... hopefully to win some money next time.

Everyone says Barona Resort & Casino has pleasant employees. I think they're right. From the guy waving at arriving cars near the driveway entrance to the cashier at the gas station/mini-mart, everyone was extremely friendly and professional. Barona Resort & Casino has very immaculate grounds and facilities, great gaming, professional dealers and lots of places to eat.
Only bad thing about Barona - no bar. Because of the winding mountain road leading to Barona, alcohol is not served. There are two exceptions: if you're eating at the restaurant downstairs, you can have two drinks with dinner. And if you're staying at the hotel, you can drink in your room.
Would I come back to Barona Resort & Casino? Absolutely!! -

San Diego, CA
Stay as far away from this dump as possible. The place reeks of smoke, it's full of "18-year olds" that don't look a day over 14, and the table games will kill you every time. Especially the chipless tables. Sit and play for a few hours on the ultimate texas hold-em or 3 Card Poker table and it will become all too apparent that the smart shufflers are a bit too "smart." Why anyone would play at a table with a shuffler that can read the cards and put them in a specific order is beyond me. Plus many of their young dealers (again think 14 years old) are annoying, rude jerks who have absolutely NO business being in a service position.
The California Gaming Commission needs to go through this place with a fine-toothed comb. -
Review from Hootie B.
Las Vegas, NV
Out of all the San Diego, Temecula Casino's, Barona Resort has always been our favorite. I've lived in Las Vegas for over thirty years, but I don't like to gamble where I live. Barona provides a relaxing escape from the LV scene!!
On our most recent visit we were their after a Charger's Game, not just to gamble. Even comparing it to Las Vegas, the casino floor is very impressive. Of course Barona it is dwarfed by LV's Mega-Resorts, but I'm slowly learning that not trying to match LV is usually a good thing!! I would get tired walking a mile just to get to the hotel swimming pool!!
Yes, you are allowed to smoke at Barona, but it is an alcohol free casino also. I thought the whole point of alcohol was loosen the gamblers inhibitions (and judgment)!! However I do remember ordering spirits and wine at our dinner in their steakhouse.
As per California Gaming Code, games of chance are slightly modified. The two most notable of course are roulette and craps. I like how they modified the craps game, still allowing you to use dice, compared to how Pechenga does it with the shoes. Technically though, if you really analyze their craps, it still can be considered a "game of chance" (I don't know if I'm using the correct legal terminology). As for their roulette, I found that it was less exciting with the use of the cards, but that doesn't deter their players. Their roulette wheels are absolutely packed!!
Another thing I didn't realize about Barona Resort before my first visit is that it is not in San Diego, it's a long lonely drive up into those (small) mountains. This can be a good thing, if you would like that get-away resort like feel, but once we arrived for our three day stay, we really didn't feel like driving all the back to San Diego.
However I did drive back to SD the next day, you know why. I had to buy a bottle of Vodka!! -
Review from Rubin K.
What's better than $5 tables, cheap buffets (that are easily comped), and friendly staff.
This place is amazing. Went for the first time 2 weeks ago and played blackjack for over 3 hours. It's so nice b/c since all the tables are $5 it allows cheap kids like me to play for longer. Plus, all the dealers and people who work there are really friendly and not as uptight as the Vegas dealers. They help you out a lot too and tell you what the book says.
Also, most of their tables have these "iPad-esque" computer things in front of you that counts your cards (i.e. if you have an ace and a 7, it'll put "8/18" on your screen. It'll show how much you've bet, and you use it to hit, split, double down, stay, etc. It's really cool and convenient.
Also, they pretty much give away the buffets like candy...you just gotta play a little then ask the pit boss. I even came back for my bday (actual day of) and they gave me a free chocolate cake, which was SO BOMB.
They put a pin on me and everyone I crossed wished me a happy birthday which is nice.
It's just a really cool environment with young dealers and cool people who just help you have fun.
Awesome.
Plus, the buffet is delicious...highlights:
Mac n Cheese, Mongolian BBQ, Roasted Turkey, Guac, Crepe Station, Bananas Foster, cheesecake, etc.

Pros-The casino and the rooms are extremely nice.
You don't get that trashy vibe you get at most casino's.
The place is well groomed.
Barona has awesome scenery and a nice golf course.
I always hear of people winning at this casino.
Cons-If you're not from San Diego County its a long drive.
Also, they do not serve alcohol in the casino! Drinking and Gambling go hand and hand. If you need a drink, you may need to chug a few in the parking lot. -
Review from Jason W.
It was decently close to San Diego, though the drive included single lane mountain roads. Everything is card based because it is California but all the games were present.
The worst thing about this place was that it had a limited liquor license. So you had to go to a restaurant and get food to get drinks at a high price.
