Last fall, I organized and went on an office retreat here (very small office).  I worked with the staff here to organize lodging, dining, and activities for our group.  For a fairly small set up it was kind of odd to deal with 3 or 4 people in setting up a 1.5 day stay for 10 people.  Some people were very helpful and quick, but others were tough to get in contact with and seemed disorganized.  After we left, there was a billing problem as well in terms of how they billed us, but after a few calls it was sorted out.  Overall, nothing was a major pain, but it was more difficult than it should have been to set up everything.

Everything was very nice though.  The grounds are well kept and there are lots of outdoor things to explore like the ruins, gardens, cemetary, etc.  We had a good time with the bocce ball set they had outside.  There is a small lake and a golf course as well that seems to be where all the locals come to play.

We each had half a cabin to ourselves (a cabin was divided into 2 suites) and the rooms were very nice.  Fireplace, bathtub, living room, good bed.  It was kind of a shame having such a nice room and not having someone to enjoy them with.  It's definitely very nice and I would consider going back and staying there with someone special.  However, they were nice for a reason - they were not cheap as our "group discount" was $200 or 250 a night.  It is a "resort" though so it's not too surprising.

The activities that we selected were both very fun and successful - paintball, a scavenger hunt and archery (which was integrated into the scavenger hunt).  I had never done paintball before and it was pretty awesome.  They had 2 outdoor arenas: one in an open field with lots of barrels and large wooden cable reels to hide behind and another in the woods with trees, hills, ditches, and small structures to take cover behind.  The equipment seemed pretty decent and our host/guide/babysitter was very helpful.  Paintball is definitely really awesome and everyone had a fantastic time.  The scavenger hunt ran us all around Barnsley Gardens looking for answers to questions and a few objects as well to the makeshift archery range.  Both of those activities were pretty fun, but I think everyone just wanted to play more paintball!
Ah, I forgot to mention these things earlier but we also used a small meeting space there as well which was pretty decent and we ate 3 meals at the Woodlands Grill (see separate review).  There are also 2 other options that are only opened on the weekend: The Beer Garden (beer and snacks) and The Rice House (formal American cuisine).

I'd recommend this spot as a place to go for a couple nights to get away from the city and relax.  It also is a nice spot for an office retreat but I think they would only have the capacity to accommodate small or possibly mid-sized offices.  Also, it definitely was a little pricier than your standard teambuilding retreat but I think it was worth it.  Hell, the paintball alone was worth it.  As Catherine S. mentioned, they do seem to have a number of wedding there as well and it seems like a popular golf spot.

My boyfriend and I went for the day and picnicked out on the huge lawn.  There are remnants of old gardens and it is very pretty in a dilapidated sort of way.  The mansion was burned I think around the time of the civil war, but the imposing ruins remain and you can wander around in them.  There was a DJ setting up his table for a wedding reception in the ruins for that evening when we were there...very cool.  You can go downstairs in the ruined mansion and look at lots of civil war memorabilia.
There is a new-ish golf course and hotel with cute little bungalows you can rent.  Also a good spa, I hear.
