The staff here is very friendly, and they know their stuff. A few days ago, I asked a sales associate about a somewhat obscure book I didn't see on the shelf, and without looking it up or missing a beat, the person led me right to the bottom shelf of a display stand where the last copy was hiding!

This BN is gigantic, with an impressive selection, particularly in their Judaica, Cookbook, and Current Affairs sections.

went back there this evening. Jessie was waiting for me.

" Am I going to leave a broken man like I did last week?"

"eh, what's your name again, you wanted that middle aged English dude right?....here we are"

" so i take it you're not into the middle aged English dudes Jessie?"

" nope - I'm too young. let's give it a few years eh? maybe I'll grow into them...here's your album"

Happiness. Also picked up a paperback copy of Drew Gilpin Faust's "This Republic of Suffering"  which really should be  the title of a Morrissey album if I ever heard one. And having given the album more than a few listens ( thank you thank you thank you Rich L) they are not dissimilar.

This is a Barnes and Noble, much like many other Barnes and Nobles, except that it is always insanely busy on the weekends.

There's a Starbucks Cafe upstairs where you can get 'meh' coffee with less than meh service, and then sit on the floor to drink it, as 40% of the population of Rockville has come to this B&N to hang out. Also they brought their children, who are generally running, crying, and/or yelling.

Personally my money's on Borders, but B&N snags my business at times, as  I can't justify driving there when they are only a block from where I live.

Ah, many hours were whittled away here. I like that you can sit up in the cafe and not have to actually buy anything. There's some free wifi, but I think it's from the City of Bethesda, not B and N.

If you bring a computer, there are only about three electrical outlets to plug them into, so come early if you're planning to write a paper or something that would require you to keep the computer on long.

Like others have said, it's fairly huge and the staff is sort of inattentive, but that's just what I'm looking for when I want to read magazines for free.

Oh, yes. The bathrooms are gross.

HUGE. This Barnes and Noble stands head and shoulders above the other Barneses because of their selection, seating, location and ENORMITY (three floors!).

The most notable thing about this Barnes is that they have plenty of seating. When other Barneses (Ahem Rockville and Georgetown!) are actually taking tables and chairs away, this Barnes generously offers 25+ tables in their cafe. I went on a Thursday night, Sunday afternoon - and there's always a place to sit.

And can I say something about the bathroom situation? Considering everything that Barnes does right, why can't that extend to their bathroom accommodations? One stall for each sex - that's NOT stocked with soap and paper towels - just won't do anymore.

Other than that, this is the place to chill out in Bethesda (and wait until 9:30pm for Morton's bar bites menu!!)

I have to admit the first time I came here I got dizzy on the escalator - the place is huge.
There is a really good selection of cycling mags and I always check out the selection of Blue Rays - recently picked Seventh Voyage of Sinbad - must have seen that 10 times in the theater when I was 9 - and reservoir dogs.
1/2 star off because the cafe sucks and I cant always figure out how the books are sorted.
4.5

This is my favorite BN in the area. I come here fairly often - mostly when I have nothing else to do, I will come here and grab some coffee and a pastry and leaf through magazines or some of the "----- for Dummies" books. The cafe is very spacious - lots light, lots of seating and not very cramped like the BN in Georgetown. Can get all sorts of things from the cafe - most recently I had a pretzel that was stuffed with spinach and feta. Creative and tasty!

The salestaff are very friendly and helpful. I came in with a book in mind but I didn't have the title/author written down. I proceeded to forget what it was and eventually someone asked if I needed help finding something. I described what I could remember about it and they were able to figure out what it was and help me find it!

Be warned: Often times overrun with highschool kids... best not to go on a Friday or Saturday night!!

Love this Barnes and noble, It's really big and the selection is great. It's three levels and on the bottom there is a great selection of movies and Cd's. The staff is really friendly helpful too. I'm not impressed with the Starbucks upstairs, the service leaves much to be desired. Aside from the terrible service the cafe/magazine area looks out on Bethesda avenue, It's a pretty cool place to hang out  and read celebrity magazines if you have some time to kill.

I loved coming to the Barnes & Noble when I worked in Bethesda. The staff is super friendly, and I would find myself browsing in here for hours. Tu-Van is right on with how much the Starbucks and pastries adds to the overall experience. This place is perfect for rainy days, or if you're trying to find a gift for a friend. Usually I don't like to sing the praises of huge chain stores (no matter how convenient they are) but this place really gets the job done.

By far the best B&N I've ever been to.  Besides the extensive selection of books and magazines, this place also has the Starbucks Cafe attached to it.  The Cafe was what impressed me the most, with the larger-than-normal seating area and a wide selection to choose from on the menu.  Besides the normal Starbucks Coffee the menu also included paninis, wraps, and other sandwiches and a small selection of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.  The slices are smaller than what you get at the restaurant, but it's more than enough for instant sweet-tooth gratification.
