Throwback, baby. I remember Barnaby's from when I was a kid. It's still the same...and the thin crust pizza is outstanding. I had mine with sausage (real, Italian sausage) the other day. Fabulous.

Order yourself, wait for your number, and whammo! Oh, don't forget to get your drinks at the drink bar.

Old skool...and loving it.

The best thin crust pizza ever! I love this place with all my heart. My whole family loves it and this location is one of the nicer ones in my opinion. The have a great menu with pasta which is also really good and sandwhiches. I just wish that they offered free drink refils cause it gets kinda pricy- the only reason I am knocking this down a bit.

Alan I have to say that I don't think you should be surprised by the five star rating.  Clearly anyplace that offers free ritz crackers and some amazingly delicious cheese dip while you wait for your pizza is deserving of five stars.  There is great pizza in Chicago, but their pizza is unique.  The crust is one of a kind and the restaurant has a nice feel to it.  Their french onion soup is also a must.  I loved coming here as a kid after baseball games.  I need to stop writing about this place because it's making me crave their sausage and onion pizza!

This is my all time favorite Chicago thin crust pizza. I grew up going to the Niles location. The cornmeal crust is to die for. This pizza has its own unique taste, and can't be beat. The pizza is cut in squares, and on Valentines day they offer heart shaped pizzas....now that is what I call a great date! Barnabys offers burgers, sandwiches, and a bunch of appetizer foods as well. The Northbrook location I frequent often, and I think it's the best location. There are several Barnabys locations throughout Chicagoland, but it seems a few have closed throughout the past few years. The prices are extremely reasonable, and you won't be dissapointed with this thin crust pizza!! They will call your number when the pizza is ready. You have to order your drinks at a seperate bar. Oh Barnabys..........what would I do without you?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this pizza.
Here's why: GREAT, thin cornmeal-dusted crust (great, crunchy edges); nice "brownness" on the cheese; good topping action (quality and ratio); not overly-sauced.
The restaurant itself is so cute and old fashioned.  Dark wood (so much of it that it almost swallows you - but in a good way), stained glass light fixtures, kind of a 70s vibe.  Walk-up service bar.  Pitchers of beer.
I don't know...it's kind of a North Shore fixture, but in a low-key, non-fancy kind of way.  Good for families, nice little booths for couples, a few TVs here and there.  Yeah, it's dorky and suburban but I love it.

Being from Northbrook, we never really used to come here alot because it's far from downtown Northbrook and really close to the highway. Or, maybe it's the fact that John Wayne Gasey used to work here back in the day, and I'm not clowning around about that....ah hahahaha!

But on a serious note, some of my friends love it here and have taken me back recently. I have a friend who's a sailor in the merchant marines. and he comes here everytime he's in town. You have to get the thin crust with the sandy cornmeal bottom. It's the bomb!! Skip everything else and go straight for the pizza.

I am genuinely surprised at all the five star reviews for Barnaby's with all the other great Pizza places in the Chicago area.  Their Pizza is good, but I would say overall for Chicago, average at best.  I don't love the crust and thin crust is secondary to dish, pan and stuffed.  In addition to Pizza they also have an extensive selection of sandwiches.  Their BBQ is one of the best I have had.

Unintentionally retro with plenty of parking and plenty of tables.  But I guess their pizza must be an acquired taste... the other reviews have done an excellent job of describing the pizza, I just don't find it as memorable or outstanding as they seem to.  Maybe it is more novel to a native Chicagoan to find a thin crust pizza than a NY transplant like myself.  I know I've eaten something there other than pizza but it was forgettable.

Ordering can be a bit confusing your first time - order food at the section of counter to the right, get your drink at the little bar on the far left, then grab a table and wait for your order to be called.

The atmosphere is all-or-nothing... it is either full of families and large groups with children or there is hardly anyone in the place at all.  When you go at the off-times, it can feel a little creepy.

Suburban pizza institution. This is a fun family restaurant with delicious pizza you won't find anywhere else. The crust is one in a million! I have been coming here since I was probably 2 or 3 (when my brother worked here as a teenager) and I probably will bring my kids here someday. They have other dishes besides pizza, but why would you want to bother with those?

five stars? are you kidding me ?

must be a suburban thing, you all dont know pizza.

ok, i go to order my pizza and say, hey, please pie cut the pizza for me. the girl says NO. i say, WHAT? she says if we do that for one person then we have to do it for all.  wow, now THAT is customer service.

i say, you are insane, do you know what customer service is?

she says her manager says those are their rules. i can can get the pizza in that terrible chicago cut of squares or NO cut at all? what the f***? it would take LESS time for someone to pie cut the thing.

that being said the pizza was mediocre and that slice of service right there? terrible.

Good pizza with a thin cornmeal crust.  Satisfying, not overwhelming, and you're not sorry afterwards. I got an okay salad here once, but just stick with the pizza. Sometimes you have to wait a really really long time, unfortunately. Tends to be crowded and noisy, but that's because the food is so good. I really recommend it for great pizza in the burbs.

Five stars for the pizza. For 20 years the pizza has brought me back. Our family would go after my baseball games in high school. Our teams would go and I return every time I go to the suburbs. It's right off I-94 North at Dundee Road across from the Renaissance Hotel. There are few things more comforting than the thin (almost delicate), cornmeal-dusted crust, tangy sauce and gooey cheese on a Barnaby's pizza. These days I could eat an entire pie myself (without drinking any soda). It's like eating a Pringle, once you smell it and take a piping hot nibble, you can't stop eating. It's not "Chicago-style" by any means. In fact it's almost anti deep dish. It's unique and far from the cracker crust pizzas from Jewel. This is really tasty pizza. The rest of the fare is "fast-food" quality, but sometimes they offer a cheese and cracker tray at the counter. This sounds lame, but they provide Ritz crackers and Merk's spread cheese. You can't do it better! It's barn-like interior works in this suburban location. If it was here in the city you'd think twice. And, if you need someone waiting on you hand and foot, try somewhere else. Tradition is to place your order at the front, get a ticket and wait for your number. When it's ready, go pick it up and bring it to the table. Consider yourself extra lucky if they have the cheese and cracker spread on the bar.
