What? The Hideout's closed on Mondays??? Where are two cocktail nerds supposed to go in Ft Greene/Clinton Hill/Prospect Heights to get their drink on?
Not sure which one of us came up with Flatbush Farm, but it wasn't the best idea we've ever had. BarN, the bar attached to FF is actually a really nice space--high ceilings, dark wood, good lighting. But their cocktail menu is laughably small, and why are half the drinks made with limoncello? It's like the cocktail list I'd have made up when I was 16.
We settled on the Brooklyn, basically a Manhattan that replaces vermouth with Southern Comfort. Drinkable, but nothing special. And from there, my friends, it all went downhill. Next up, my drinking companion ordered an Old Fashioned, which the bartender inexcusably put sweet vermouth in. The faux pas was enough for me to lose complete faith in her, so I thought I'd get the simplest thing possible--Basil Hayden bourbon on the rocks. No problem, right?
Wrong. One sip and I knew I was drinking not bourbon, but scotch. How? How does someone mess up taking a bottle of bourbon that I NAMED, and pouring it into a glass with ice? We later found out that her mental list of the bar's bourbons also included Talisker, Oban and Glenlivet--scotch, scotch and scotch.
On the plus side, it was nice and quiet (although it was a Monday), and they let us linger over our drinks after they'd closed and were cleaning up. I definitely want to try the food at FF, so I'm sure I'll be back to give BarN another chance. Hopefully by then someone will have enrolled our bartender in a mixology class.

While technically a sub-component of Farm, Barn's got it going on well enough to deserve its own place in the Yelp stratosphere, and here is why:
- It's a great big bar(n) and they serve booze
- It's cavernous with a slightly sultry atmosphere
- Awesomely located on the brink between Prospect Heights and Park Slope, you're set to continue the night in either direction
- Wicked menu design (see picture)
I did find a nail sticking straight up out of a table once, as if ready to discipline an unwelcome elbow from planting down. That's just the kind of thing I admire about the ol' Barn, though--it's like a crusty, old world tavern wrapped with a swanky, fresh veneer.
Or is it the other way around?

i really like this place. good lighting, nice selection of wines, generally not too difficult to get a seat if you're willing to wait a round or so... the bartenders seem not to have any personality at all; they seem very dronelike and a touch curt. but that is fine, as long as they keep bringing me drinks. which they do!
