Thanks to the busy lines at Cafe Habana I found this place and very grateful I did.
It was an extremely hot and humid day so I wanted something that would satisfy my soul. GRILLED CHEESE! And it was damn good. The abundance of different cheeses and the tomatoes were perfectly intertwined on to butter toasted bread. And the side greens, definitely not a garnish but an added touch to the sandwich. My friend had the BEET & GOAT CHEESE SALAD, she ate that up in no time. Ha.
The service was great. My friend and I were a little hesitant to order anything but water (on a crazy hot day like this!!) so the server let us try the sweet tea for free. I love the ambiance, very chill with a hint of vintage decor. Sweet.
We came here last Saturday for dinner. We had a reservation for 8 and were sat at the cozy back table. I didn't feel the place was pretentious or snobby in any way. The waiters and staff were all very nice and accommodating to us even after we only ordered shared plates, drinks and deserts and sat at the table for an extra 20-30 mins.
We had a great sample of everything on the menu and I will say that it was all delicious.
Exceptional Plates: Almond Stuffed Dates, Tabasco Salmon Tartare, Pesto Creamed Potatoes & Banana Almond Cake with Espresso Ice Cream
Exceptional Drinks: Pear Ginger Martini & Basil Lemon Martini
Great Dishes: Crispy Bass Taquitos, Chipotle Shrimp Taquitos (very spicy- eat these last if you have other things to chow down on), Bruschetta with Mushrooms, Calamari Fritas, Lobster Raviolis & Zucchini & Fennel Salad
I would totally come back here for dinner or for lunch. It was a great meal and for lots of cocktails, food, desert and paying for the birthday girl it was only about $60ish per person.
If it weren't for a chubby staff members' pathetic attempt at self-validation (by behaving like a 13-yr-old by or a chauvinistic adult male) this place would only be half bad. Unfortunately, that's not the case.
This place was probably "chic" in 2002, but certainly not now. I think it is safe to say that a facadectomy is over due.
Great! great food, great service... im a fan
Really pretty space, realllly pretty neighborhood, very charming and whimsical interior...lovely food...except it took well over 45 minutes to get it (and we were only a party of four). Also, we had to flag down our waiter every time we needed something -- and even then he would forget things, on a Sunday morning when only half the tables were full, and the street really hadn't even woken up yet. Fun for groups and great prices for that neighborhood, but go when you have a lot of time on your hands.
Typical bistro-type place. Good place for a reliably well cooked meal.
The fenel salad and the truffle shrimp risotto were great. It wasn't too loud in here so it's a bit nicer than other NYC restaurants. The service was fast and the waiter was very polite. I would definitely come back again even though we were 10 minutes late and they gave our table away.
Barmarche manages to be classy, laidback, and hip all at the same time. In the summer, the space is kind of open with lots of open windows and doors, which gives it a nice airy feel. The service here was very good.
The cocktails here were very good. I especially liked the matador-just the right amount of sweetness and spice. I recommend the seafood dishes.Ceviche was good, and I especially liked the seared branzino. Dessert was the only hit or miss. The churros were very good. But, the panna cotta was just weird. It tasted like some bad birthday sponge cake with some weird cream on the side. I would go to BarMarche again but would steer clear of that dessert.
A friend made a reservation here, and from the name I was expecting Frenchy/bistro food. That was not the case, but what we got was eclectic and delicious.
The restaurant is small, dimly lit, and definitely on the romantic side. I was there with a group and our seating was a bit cramped, but not terrible.
As for the food, the menu was totally eclectic and random, but in a good way. We had guacamole, calamari, and a goat cheese salad to start; all were delicious. Entrees ranged from fish tacos to cheeseburgers to risotto to roasted chicken. I had scallops, and they were cooked perfectly.
Our server was very friendly and accommodating, and overall it was just a great dinner. Highly recommended!
Much like in Hollywood, a lot of New York restaurants try to sway your opinion by concentrating on the frills like ambience (special effects), service (scintillating promos) and inventive cocktails (naked Kate Winslet). But a restaurant (film) with just those factors is never good, is it?
Barmarche has a real plot, a story. It tells the story of good food, and it tells it so beautifully that it would lull a neurotic insomniac into deep sleep. We ordered the pan-seared branzino, duck confit, baby lamb chops w/chickpeas and olives, and truffle risotto. Having tried all four dishes, I can definitely say this place has got it all going on! Bring on the toughest Rattatouille-type critic, and I'm sure he will have the same opinion as I, except a lot more descriptive and insightful! All four dishes, plus 4 drinks (wine, beer and 2 martinis) plus a pizzette appetizer cost us $37/piece. NOT BAD.
Our waiter was a little strange. He had the whole hippie "I'm happy as I am and I'm going to live life for the journey" look, but at the same time had the "don't call me, I'll call you" 'tude. It was confusing. You've got to choose one, son.
Apart from the dazed and confused waiter who forgot to bring my wine twice, I highly recommend Barmarche as a hip, reasonable, and most importantly, quality french restaurant!
Ummm...possibly the best fries...ever.
Great place for late-night eats. Perfect if you're with a little group or if you're on a one-on-one evening out. If you're a burger person--get the burger. If you're not a buger person--get the burger. So amazing!
The staff is always so great. The drinks are always perfect. Usually we grab some wine but I recently switched it up and went with the dreamy waiter's suggestion on the passion-fruit margarita. Mmhmm! Mmmhmm!
I was apprehensive about this place because the reviews I read were very mixed. I came on a Friday night and sat at the marble bar with a girlfriend. The decor is very classy, warm, and chic French.
The half-Japanese, half-Russian bartender was very friendly and served up some fantastic cocktails. Definitely try the spicy cucumber margarita and the ginger high ball. He ended up having a conversation with my friend who also spoke Japanese - don't ask me what they were talking about, though :)
The food was also equally good and prompt. The salmon tartare appetizer was above average, and the beet and goat cheese salad was a surprising mix of sweet and salty that really worked. The tilapia was perfectly braised and the haricot vert and capers were in this caramel-butter sauce that was a great complement.
Not at all snobby or pretentious, and I would definitely come back for both the food and atmosphere.
so I came from a long long plane ride issue and a 2 hour shuttle wait at the airport and wanted some food that was open late. So my friend who lives in Soho took me to this place and I got the bresaola & arugula salad. It only had the beef and the greens and lemon. What happened to the parmesan and the tomatoes? The lemon "vinaigrette" was basically lemon juice that the greens were DROWNED in. Waaaay too sour.
Personally for me...it wasn't worth the 12 dollars for the salad.
I guess it's a cute intimate place...that's all.
For some of us, simply one memorable plate will make a restaurant worth revisiting. For this Yelper, the Pan-Seared Banzino was perfectly prepared without a single bite feeling over-seared. The celery root puree and sanmarzano tomato confit added a delicate hiint of extra texture and taste. Accompany that with a side of sauteéd spinach, you have a great meal with a seamless combination of quality and quantity.
Don't mind the fact that the truffle shrimp risotto was too heavy on asiago cheese or how overly ambitious the two waiters were trying to serve more than 8 tables by themselves. Overwhelmed but always courteous. One might be better served on a weeknight.
Satisfactory service, hit-or-miss small plates and appetizers, one unforgettable entreé. 4 Stars!
I love barmarche. The restaurant is so downtown chic, I just love the roughly elegant environment - not exactly polished, more of a rustic feeling yet there are shabby-chic feeling chandeliers, etc. I have been on three very different occasions and the service has always been great.
The first time I was here, I was on a date. We were seated closer to the front of the restaurant at a cute, small table & the date went v. well, had the scallops. Amazing. Second time I was here with my little sister and girlfriend and we were seated a little further back and I had the steak frites. Again, was delicious. Then I was at Barmarche again last night at a 10 person birthday dinner. We were seated in the back square table and it was perfect. I had the salmon tartar (great - just not my favorite), mussels and scallops. Loved them all.
The restaurant is perfect for all occasions, and the food is light and delicious. The restaurant isn't overly expensive and the mood is always nice. Also, I really like the bathrooms. They are decorated very nicely. Random side note.
Highly recommend to any and all NYC diners.
Review for Brunch.
Very cute place and great ambiance for a brunch/dinner spot. The food was overall pretty good. I had the blueberry pancakes and they were fluffy, as pancackes should be, but they hardly had any blueberries in them!!! Boo!!!
I also tried the eggs and chicken BLT. Both of these were good, but nothing to write home about. The bread for the sandwich was quite hard, but the chicken was well seasoned. The eggs were a little overdone though. It seemed like others in my party liked all their entrees, since there were no complaints. The most popular at our table was the barmarche breakfast which included 2 eggs, bacon, a pancake, and home fries.
Service could use a little work on though. We had to keep flaggin down our waiter to get his attention and I think he only checked on us once.
Not sure if I'd come back for brunch again, but glad I checked this place out.
Stumbled on Barmarche in the cold last Saturday. It was EXCELLENT for brunch, and I would definitely go back. The service was a little unattentive, but the food was excellent. I actually tried eggs benedict for the first time (runny eggs kind of gross me out), but they were excellent. I ordered the fritatta that was a bit more flat omelet-y than fritatta, but still very yummy. The ambiance is great too.
One thing I have to complain a bit about, the bathroom was weird. Not so much the bathroom, as the door. Its right outside the kitchen, where the waiter's station is, and the door is louvered slats. That means, the waiters could hear what I was doing in there. Not that it was much out of the ordinary, mind you, but I wasn't so much a fan of that. The food though and remainder of the restaurant, very good!
Yummy place for dinner.
I went with a small group of girls on a Saturday night and had a great time. Definitely have a reservation or be prepared to wait an hour to be seated. The service was kind of bizarre; we couldn't figure out who was our waiter because three or four different people came to us throughout the night. And while my water glass was always filled, the overall level of service was lacking, big time.
The food was excellent. I split two entrees with a friend so we could sample more of the menu. One was a creamy risotto with scallops, mushrooms, and Parmesan, the other chipotle shrimp taquitos. And we split a side of pesto mashed potatoes. All great and not too pricey.
The restaurant has charming decor and makes you feel like you are eating in someone's posh dining room. There are antique decorations like gold mirrors, picture frames, and French paintings adorning the walls and fresh flowers throughout.
Perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a gathering of friends. Will definitely be back!
I have eaten here probably 30 times. It is right down the block from my boyfriend's old apartment and we would go there all the time. Barmarche was our standby good meal. It was good every time. The waitstaff was friendly, though never all that competent. But they made up for their errors, so it was okay.
We pretty much ordered the same thing most times: guacamole; the stuffed dates with blue cheese, bacon and green; the lamb; and the bass taquitos. These are pretty much the best things on the menu. the stuff dates are really exceptional and I loved the taquitos (basically great fish tacos).
But, the last 3-4 times that we went, it has just consistently gone downhill. Not sure what is wrong, but the place reeks of desperation now. The waitstaff have gotten bitchy in addition to their incompetence (I guess I would too if my tips had gone into the ground so suddenly). We were given attitude about being particular about tables when the restaurant was empty. One time we asked what was going on, why it was so empty recently. They answered: It's not, it's still early. It was a Friday night at 8:30 pm. Weird. We had to send the last set of dates back twice for being burnt (which they denied were burnt).
It is all very weird because this was really a favorite place and would have gotten 4.5 stars before (seriously, yelp, give us half stars!). But I'm sorry to say that unless we hear some positive reports to the contrary we won't be going back soon.
Nice, cozy place, with solid food.
Went with large group of people, the service was good.
Items which I thought were tasty:
The guacamole
The bruchetta dish
The burger
the bacon wrapped dates
The only downside was that although appetizers came quickly, the entrees took quite a while. We did order a bit late though, not sure if that was a factor.
Mediocre food.
Service was OK - all the food came out at different times though.
The kicker is that there were a zillion gnats and bugs all over the place. Pretty gross. They have their chandeliers encased in clear acrylic boxes (what?) which seemingly have no real purpose, besides to keep the bugs inside. Not really the type of thing you want to see when you're at a restaurant.
I had a taste of pretty much everyone's food. Salads were really boring, calamari was rubbery - the sandwiches were probably the best bet.
Big yawn.
Recommended for: brunch, lunch or dinner with friends, a date.
Drinks 5, Service 3, Ambiance 5.
I should first disclose that we did not eat anything here, and only had drinks. I'll update this review later after having some food, but from the looks of other trusted yelpers, I'd have to say that this will probably remain 4 stars.
Barmarche is a quaint cute little place on spring right near the border of chinatown. S had mentioned the fantastic drinks she had had, so a group of us, saddened by our Pinkberry experience decided to venture on over. Drinks definitely do not disappoint as Yora K, my libation expert points out. Everyone ordered a drink, but I was so torn, I ordered two, and wound up drinking a combination of 3 of them... to be fair, I did share some and didn't consume 3 all by myself. I strongly recommend the strawberry whiskey drink (can't remember the name, but very good) and the two ginger drinks (though honestly, if you combine the two ginger drinks, like the mighty Voltron, you form one ultimate force to be reckoned with).
Service was slow, and too high on the PM side. We went in to an 'empty' restaurant stating we wanted to just have some drinks. We were informed that they had their dinner menu and needed our table by 7, which we assured them (given it was 5:00) that we'd be done by then. Didn't really care for the snootiness, and worse of all, when we were done, the place was still empty aside from the 1 table of friends that was there before we got there.
Ambiance - perfect! I really like how this place is layed out. Candles adorn tabletops and the walls, and there are little nooks either for couples or small groups (4 people). There is an elevated nook with a window facing the street and a more secluded nook behind the bar that also has a sheer curtain you call pull for more privacy. I can definitely see the date potential of this place and would give them a whirl for dinner or lunch.
Sadly though, the service isn't stellar (although the drinks are) but hopefully the remainder of your meal and ambiance will greatly make up for it either if you are with a group of friends, or a special someone.
Sean Approved: Definitely Yes.
I went to Barmarche with Lauren, Jenny, Adam, Carolyn, Julia, and Jay, who asked me during dinner what I thought of the experience. I explained that they would have to wait for the Yelp review. I never divulge before the next day.
The restaurant looked nice - it with cool chandeliers and historic cielings.
The service was attentive at times but there was no rhyme or reason to what they were doing. For example, I ordered wine. The waiter poured me the first taste, then proceeded to pour the rest of the table, then he forgot to pour for me when he finished. When we finished the wine, the bus boys took away most of the glasses. But we wanted more wine... this stuff, plus the fact that one order was mixed up and some other table's entree arrived at ours, were not deal breakers for me because the dinner was fun. We were enjoying the conversation even though most of us were sweating because it was so hot in the place.
The deal breaker for me was the salty food. Everything I tasted had an unexpected saltiness that made me thirsty the rest of the night and into the morning. We ordered the bruchetta du jour, expecting something with tomatoes. We got mushrooms and cheese. No one could quite put a finger on what kind of cheese they used, but it was just a bit too overpowering for me. The entree I had sounded good on the menu (new zealand baby lamb chickpea hummus, black olives & feta chimichurri) but what arrived was a different story. The meat was tasty but I wished there would be more of it. Again, I was overpowered by the saltiness of the feta chimichurri and olives and I was not sure what to do with the hummus that was placed on my plate like mashed potatoes. I had never had heated hummus before and will stick with chilled hummus if I can help it from here on in. By the way, it was the same hummus that was given in the beginning of the meal with carrots and celery.
To validate my feelings of the food, I cross referenced Zagat this morning, and sure enough, Barmarchewas rated 19. I try to stay restaurants under 21 for food. All in all, I wouldn't go back there again, but would love to go with the the same crew to some of the restaurants we were talking about during dinner.
A+ atmosphere. The place is welcoming and warm. Cool menues.
I ordered the scallops. Beautifully plated. Not much food, but I don't go to nice restaurants to fill up.
Need a good fourth date spot? Go to Barmarche.
The food is only worth 3 stars, but the 4th star comes courtesy of the very cool atmosphere. The atmosphere alone makes this a fun place for a date. Loved the guacamole as an appetizer. The entrees were good, not great, not bad. The waiter misunderstood my date's order and brought her the wrong thing. He apologized and offered us free dessert to make amends.
Not the best of the best, but definitely worth a visit.
At last a hip, not too stodgy, not too expensive, quality french restaurant! We went here for a romantic dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. The wine selection was reasonable and not too overpriced ($10/glass), the duck salad was excellent, and the lamb and duck entrees were quite good. We sat in a little nook that had the speaker system nearby so it was a little hard for the staff to hear us when we ordered, and we had to get a wine glass changed out (it looked like it still had lip prints on it). Other than that, though, a fantastic little place, and we got out for around $100 (not bad for wine, appetizers, and mains for 2).
We all have our city rituals, and anytime I'm in NYC, Barmarche is one of mine. This corner restaurant/bar is small (especially by sprawling Angelino standards), but always delivers. The interior - like the exterior - with it's long, narrow windows, is done in shades of white with a shabby chic vibe. The ceilings are coffered white tile which complement the bar and mouldings, and the space is romantically lit with chandeliers, cased in plexiglass which keep it from feeling too precious.
The entire brek/brunch menu is creative but not so much so that it won't satisfy a craving for the basics. The real draw though are the fabulous libations. Delicious bellinis made with fresh fruit make me a very happy girl. It's hard to say no to a second - or third - but thankfully that doesn't matter when you're in the city and not driving.
Haven't been here for dinner, but it's one of my fave spots for brunch. Extra point for great servers and the fact that you never have to wait an age to get a table. If you can, try to score the little window booth in the back. It's a cozy, intimate corner where you can relax and people watch. Even better come wintertime when the windows fog up and you can barely detect the passersby and falling snow.
In a pinch, this place was definitely awesome. There were 8 of us at the last minute for dinner, and they gave us a perfect table and the service and food were great!
Dude! I. Loved. This. Place! I don't know if they've changed the menu since other reviewers have gone or what, but I just had one of my favorite meals ever here!
First of all, the place is adorable - candlelit, soft, easy, clean. Love it.
Second of all, the food! The warm bread opener started everything off. Fresh and slightly toasty with a sesame aftertaste. Yum! Appetizers followed: a beet salad - beets w/ bruleed goat cheese, and fried calamari - perfectly crisp with a tasty chipotle aoli that I dug.
For my main I had crispy bass taquitos! It came with crushed avocado & apple cider slaw. If your mouth isn't watering, it should be. Damn, those were good taquitos. I also tasted the yucca crusted monkfish on top of maybe escarole? Whatever it was, it was a fantastic combination.
My side of roasted brussel sprouts was perfect as well, with a nice garlicky finish. We also shared some well crisped garlic pommes frites. These were seriously garlicky - no vampires were going to coming anywhere near us after these, but well worth it. The chipotle aioli appeared here again.
I had no room for dessert, save a double shot of Altoids to faintly cover my stinky rose breath. Oh! I also had a glass of pinot noir that I really enjoyed. Goodness. What a great meal!
Service was pretty good. Food came out very rapidly and correctly. My only complaint was that our server seemed more interested in conversing with friends at a table nearby than getting our initial order... but after we got going, everything else was smooth sailing. I really hope Barmache keeps up its great quality food. I can't wait for my next visit.
Thanks to Debbie K's suggestion, I decided to have my birthday dinner here with a few close friends. It was the perfect ambiance that I was looking for - not overly crowded or scene-y, but cozy and warm (especially since we were sitting right under the heater). Our table configuration was also kinda fun (sort of a rounded wedge shape), so we could all see each other and converse. The food was very good and tasty, although not amazing. Perhaps they have a seasonal menu, but I didn't see some of the items other Yelpers listed. Guess that just means I'll have to come back again - and try and get that cute two-seater nook in the back.
Only downside was that our waitress was surly and had a "too cool for school" attitude, which she must have figured she could get away with since the tip was included. The rest of the staff was great though.
I think I had the pulled pork here---it was okay!
I cannot remember much else besides that. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, but the food is easily forgettable.
But good cocktails here-----that's it!
I was making an attempt to take my folks to Freeman's, but of course there was an hour wait, and we were too hungry for that. Crap...what do I do? Racking my brain for ideas, we started wandering, and ended up at Barmarche. Wow. Awesome. My mom and I did the brunch-y thing, eggs norwegian (mm..smoked salmon) and the monterey eggs (the guacamole was amazing).
My dad opted for the skirt steak sandwich, which had me worried. My parents really know their meat, and are big skirt steak fans. However, Barmarche stood up to the test! My dad loved it, and the sandwich was truly awesome (I snuck a bite). The fries and home fries kicked butt too, nothing says love like lots of fresh garlic!
Definitely a keeper.
What a quaint little spot in one of my favorite areas of the city! I loved it... a nice cozy restaurant, esp the table we were at in the back nook, slightly elevated by the window facing Elizabeth. The drinks were great (loved my Brazilian sangria), food was delicious (esp the pomme frite and my skirt steak), and very affordable prices. Oh, a little surprise was a live band that played the ideal dinner music (instrumental with a bit of soft vocals and a nice good beat).
However, I can't give it 5 stars since the food was a bit on the heavy side (don't order the steak nor the red snapper taquitos, which are very much more like tacos... they're obviously confused here), which i didn't mind since i was hungry and i loved the flavor. But more importantly, the service was pretty slow. It wasn't bad service but not good either. Our waiter could've come around a bit more often to refill our drinks / water and bring us our check & change.
Overall, a solid restaurant and I'm sure I'll be back. Good suggestion Debbie K.!
Awesome little street-side cafe--this place is one of my new favorites. Their drinks are perfectly mixed, the food is great, the service is fast and efficient (if a bit chilly at first), and the location is absolutely charming.
I've never had a better mojito than I had there this afternoon; my partner's dark and stormy was equally yummy. We split the mixed green salad with chicken on it and it was delicious--and a perfect snack for two overheated people who stopped there on a whim.
The decor is very cute, with pressed tin ceilings painted white and rich, dark hardwood floors. There's also this adorable little nook in the back that's kind of like your own little VIP windowseat; when we come back for dinner, I think I'll request that table.
Barmarche is the kind of place where you go once and after like ten minutes, you wonder why you aren't already a regular. It's a cool little place with a friendly, chill vibe. Don't miss this one.
This place has great atmosphere - cozy and unpretentious, with a french salon vibe, it kind of makes me wish my apartment living room was as light and airy, with charming chandeliers and soft billowy curtains.
Daydreaming aside, this is a chic spot to catch up with the girl pals. We had brunch here last weekend and it was tasty, but nothing was quite special enough to really wow me. My omelette du jour with asparagus, cheddar and roasted tomatoes was decent, but there was way too much cheese despite my request for them to go easy on the cheddar. I also thought the ratio of veggies : eggs was low, I really like my omelettes packed with the fillings. I did take a bit of my friend's tomato, caramelized onion and feta omelette and kind of wish I had ordered that instead. Homefries were garlikcy, toasty goodness, and they serve their water in an adorable glass bottle.
Service was just ok. One of my friends changed the type of cheese in her salad and they charged her $3 extra - she wasn't adding cheese, just changing it. The waitress didn't mention this substitution charge, so my friend asked about it and was informed that it was "standard practice in practically every restaurant". I'm not so sure that's true, but it would have been nice if the waitress mentioned it when my friend ordered.
I'd try this again, perhaps for dinner, just because the atmosphere is so nice...hopefully service will be a little better, and the food kicked up a notch, because it definitely has potential.
Lovely, homey, affordable, fantastic food. I always worry about finding a table, but it always seems to work out. A favorite brunch spot in the neighborhood.
When we first walked in, I said to myself, "This place is perfecto for brunch!" Lovely room, interesting corner tables, nice piano music piped in.
20 minutes later, it was more like, "Hi. Can you please find our waiter / waitress? We haven't even seen a menu yet."
15 minutes later, our bellinis arrive. "Sorry, we'd like to order one more." Yeah. That takes another 15 minutes.
20 minutes later, we have to harass our poor bus boy again for our waitress for the bill. And AC/DC has suddenly replaced the soothing piano music.
Overheard from the bathroom:
Busboy to Waitress, "Can you help me?"
Waitress, "No. I'm too lazy."
Nice.
My boss calls me up on a Tuesday to let me know he's in town and I need to "Set up a dinner for 7 ppl at 7:30 pm in SOHO!....Tomorrow!"... What!?! Yo, this isn't the mall of america where applebee's always has an open table for ya... the majority of soho restaurants max out at a 4 top, or you're just not getting in the door with no reservation, 7 people during prime dinner time...
Lucky for me, Barmarche had a cancellation for their large table and mission accomplished. We had a zagat head in the group, you know the type that are always selecting their eateries based on a zagat number for food... well apparently this place only scored a 19 of 30 on food so I had to hear him yap disgruntled about the place until he took his first bite of the fresh oysters ... he then shut his trap... [omit discussion of validity of Zagat for another forum, this is a restaurant review]
The cocktails are good but carried too much ice for $11. The wine selection is limited but has very drinkable bottles at no more than $60 a bottle. The average main course is $18 - $24 so really you can have a great dinner here for two at about $100 (not incl tip).
I had the baby lamb which was excellent and I preferred the sirloin over the skirt steak (a little dry and could use more flavor). I don't recommend the duck comfit salad (I know the bananas are supposed to cut the spice but it didn't work and I can't deal with frieze - who eats this weed!)
They have Jazz going on Sundays also
Only 1/2 hour wait for six at 9pm on a Friday night? Sweet! I also assumed dinner would be expensive given the ambiance, type of food and location but we got outta there for only $53 each and that's with an appetizer (warm bruschetta plate with warm brie) and two bottles of wine. Our waitress also pointed out the tip was included, which is cool, as most of them don't!
The Monkfish was the hit of the table and apparently the popular choice. I only had a second to choose.. saw "Pork" and didn't bother to look farther. It came shredded and piled on top a puree of sweet potatoes. Very yummy almost Spanish flavor with the cilantro. That is the slant of the menu although it sounds French.
I recently had a dinner here to celebrate my birthday and my experience was on par with many of the reviews here. Good food and drinks; very relaxed atmosphere. I was very happy with the table arrangement (party of 8) - they seated us against a 3-sided banquette so that it was fairly easy to talk to people across the table.
The dinner menu is very simple - not many options - but I was happy with what I ordered (bass taquitos). Someone also ordered Yuca fries, which were very good.
The only problem I had was the temperature in the particular corner we were seated. It was next to the kitchen and it wasn't very well ventilated. However, the rest of the restaurant, with the large doors/windows opened to the outside, felt much cooler.
I will definitely return for the recommended brunch.
