I like it.  Great atmosphere, upstairs and downstairs.  A little overpriced (especially the drinks), but you get what you pay for in ambience.

The wait staff has always been attentive when I've gone there.  Love the location, right across the street from the State House.  There's often good live music in the downstairs sectoin as well.

I've gone back several months (I think) since my last review and it's improved quite a bit food-wise.  The menu is even on a double sided page instead of a three page screen.

The black bean and cilantro soup came quickly and was great in that I actually needed to add an bit of salt to it.  I would've loved more cilantro but I like cilantro almost as much as I like pepper.  I add both almost to the detriment to some foods like pizza and salsa.

Service was really slow in providing iced tea even though it was empty and at the edge of the table while we got our food from our server.  It was still empty 5 min. later after I got my ketchup that I asked for when the meal came and he asked if we needed anything else at the time.  I got his attn. another 5 min. later and my tea was replenished promptly.  I'll admit it was busy in the front-most room so I have to assume he had a few 2-4 tops in there as we were two of his only tables in the room we were in.

Food was great and I was allowed to add their great bacon onto my blackened chicken sandwich.  The blackening was pretty powerful, almost overpowering the bacon, if that's possible.  Their in-house bacon is pretty special.  Meaty.

Much better food this time.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is because its really the only good bar in Concord.

The lunch menu is good, their bison burger is what I usually get  and although it seems to be made from frozen meat it still has good taste and the fries are crisp and seasoned well. The bartenders are always nice and friendly and keep the pretzel rod glasses filled. The crowd at the bar is a nice mix of politicians, business men and blue collar, everyone is always warm and friendly.

The real great thing about this bar is the wide variety of brews on tap and in bottles. If you yearn for a brew made in the Northeast chances are they have it. Also of note is a great selection of single-malt whiskeys.

Nightlife is great after the dinner crowd as the place goes into full on bar mode. The downstairs lounge is nice with leather couches and two more bars. I miss the second pool table since they remolded as getting a game can be a bit tricky at peak hours.

For you people that may be in town during the primary season you may notice that the prices are very reasonable. You can spend a whole night drinking at the bar and walk out with less than a $50 tab, not to shabby if you come from one of the larger citys.

Excellent bar!  Coming from San Francisco where a martini will run you a cool $12 easy, drinking in NH is heaven!  We left the bar with an $40 tab, including tip, for 8 beers.  How sweet is that?!  And they serve pizza until midnight!

Not much else to it.

My friend and I had some dinner at the Barley House before the show at the Capitol Center for the Arts. We got here around 5:00 PM just before the dinner crowd started to trickle in. We were seated in a comfortable booth in the back dining room. The atmosphere is very casual and family friendly. The crowd was mostly grey haired on this visit. The menu offers mostly American pub fare including burgers, sandwiches, dinner entrees, salads, soups, and appetizers with a good beer selection.

Our friendly waitress came over promptly to go over the specials, take our drink orders, and gave us breadsticks with a white bean paste dip, very good munchies! We started out with some very tasty Blarney Puffs filled with cheese sauce which went well with the Guinness pints.

For dinner, the Jambalaya (spicy mix of shrimp, sausage, & chicken) over couscous was good with a mild spicy taste. The Sea Scallops (tequila cilantro lime with tomatillo salsa) with couscous was very tasty. We skipped dessert because we were meeting some friends at another bar before the show. Overall, good food, drinks, and attentive service. We'll be back!

I wish this place were closer to home!  The food was really good, (bread sticks and hummus as a table warmer - hellz yes!), the service was the fastest I've experienced in forever; The waiter asked us if we knew what we wanted to drink as he walked us to the table - LOVE IT!

Anyway, this is a great place for a decent beer selection along with some nummy pub food leaning toward casual dining Americana.

If you live nearby or are just passing through, go there.

I'm a fan of the Barley House, great garlic hummus and pretzels friendly employees, homemade ketchup.  What else do you need?  Only thing I wasn't into was their fish n' chips, too processed looking.  However, turkey burger, black bean burger, cuban sandwich, and quesadilla have all been wonderful.  Its a cool scene as Concord goes.

Across the street from the State House this is the local spot for government workers, and policy wonks alike.
Decent burgers, sandwiches and American food is served all day, and the place turns into a pretty happening place later that night.

Downstairs features a small bar, with a pool table and darts, as well as a couple video games, like golden tee.

It gets crowded on Friday and Saturday night with the surprising number of 20 and 30-something Concordians.

There is however a cover... yeah, no kidding, a cover. Are you shitting me?

The Barley House is voted 'the best bar in Concord' virtually every year, which says very little since it's practically the only (good) bar in Concord. But what a place it is - outstanding food, great drinks and, if one visits during Primary season, a potential opportunity to shake the hand of a hopeful (or hopeless as the case may be). Let's all drink to that!

Just to be fair to the other restaurants I have rated a 3 stars on, the 3 star is granted on the base that it is in Concord, NH,  if the restaurant is located in NY or DC, the taste of food would grant it a 2 star, but since the pool of restaurants is so limited in Concord, the 3 star is justified. We had the firecracker shrimp for the appetizer, and Jason got Jimbalaya and I got the St. Patty's special, corn beef stew with cabbage. The firecracker shrimp was  cajun flavored, very spicy. There were 5 of them served with cocktail sauce. They were spicy. Then the jimbalaya was served on a bed of white rice, the shrimp tasted the same as the appetizer and the sausage was pretty hot as well. My corn beef stew was pretty good, except there's some fat pieces in the stew. One thing I love about the place is that it serves 10 OZ beer which is the perfect amount for my consume. Overall, if you need a quick filling meal that does not have to be fancy or crazy, it was pretty well priced for Concord standard, the meal costed my with tips $70 bucks.

My GF and I went to the barley house last night for dinner.  We were very impressed. The waitress was friendly, the drinks were good. We had the spinach and artichoke appetizer and it was probably the best we had ever had.  I had the dublin burger which was cooked perfectly and my GF had the apple craisin salad she said it was excellent.  We were too full from desert. But will be back and try it next time

I had a great burger while my wife really enjoyed her steak. I had a hard time deciding what to order as there were other items on the menu that all sounded great.

The atmosphere has a great pub feel and our waitress was very friendly.

Nice selection of beer on draft.

Aside from The Common Man, this is the only tolerable place to eat out in Concord.  The beer is good and so is the food.  They have a trivia night once a week and good specials on food.  There is also a downstairs area with some darts, if you want to hang out with the local mountain folk.
