your local bookstoreIna, you let me down. I thought that I could rely on your recipes for fool-proof baking success. You made me cry.
All I wanted to do was bake some cupcakes. Your birthday cake recipe looked promising, but I should have listened to my inner voice telling me that 6 eggs was too many for such a cake. With that proportion of eggs, the cake was bordering on sponge cake and we all know that I cannot get a sponge cake to succeed. So, despite my best efforts, I had a souffle-like disaster with my cupcakes.
And the frosting. I should have guessed that chocolate and heavy cream, melted together and then whipped would not thicken appropriately. Indeed, further research confirmed that a frosting comprised of those ingredients needs to be cooked for 30 minutes to thicken.
So, Ina, for the sunken-funky-cupcakes with the runny frosting, you get one star!
