Neighborhood: CastroThe secret to looking young? NOT drinking the blood of virgins (try finding one of those in this town), but a bit of good genes, a lot of luck, and a good skin care regimen.
This shop carries everything I need (besides alcohol), Alba, Avalon Organics, Zia, Kiss my Face, Phyto, to keeping my inner Dorian Grey in check and smelling good. BUT THEY ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS NEXT WEEK!! After 15 years in the Castro, they are taking down their shingle. Everything in the store is 30% off, including those prized Dr. Hashuka products, so run, don't walk, and show your support for this small, family-run business.
Because I know how much you all drink and smoke, and in 5 years, it ain't gonna be pretty.

Bare Necessities contained all the products in my bathroom including:
-Avalon Organics Hair Products, in the shower
-Phyto line of products, post-shower
-Tom's of Maine
-Kiss My Face
The small shop has aweful feng shui; I've passed by it hundreds of times going to the Castro, but never actually walking in until this year. 'Tis a shame because it is full of great organic products.
I recommend to the owner that she(he) paint everything white, including the floors (staining), move the desk towards the front, and maybe use some sort of stainless steel shelving, instead. I would also put a half-naked guy at the storefront...it is the Castro after all.

When your girlfriends ask you where all your money is, shake out your hair and say "there's about $5 in my hair right now." My favorite shampoo lately is Terax, not that you need to know this, but since you are not here to change the subject - the subject stays my shampoo. It's $19 a bottle..Ridiculous. Add the conditioner and we are going for double ridiculous.
This place has a larger selection of skin and hair care products than my other shop of choice (Common Sense) and even carries natural hair dye. Now I've been coloring my hair since I was fifteen because was told that my grandma went grey in High School. I don't know if they were trying to scare me or what...But the result has been that I color my hair about every two months. Again, why do you care? I'm getting there and it has to do with natural dye. You know the one I'm talking about. The one that comes in a box and is just powder. Then you look at your gloved partner in crime, pull out the directions, vegetable oil, a raw egg (I kid you not..) and mix it all together with a wood spoon. Nothing is quite the type of uncomfortable as knowing that you have half the ingredients for a batch of cookies on your head and you have to sit there for thirty minutes...I had selected a dark red, that turned out to be crimson, needless to say that I wore a hat for quite some time. Some advice, the color on the box is a shade to two shades dark than what you'll actually get. Aim dark.
