Down-to-earth and professional!
I need to start off by saying that I'm not really into spending a ridiculous amount of time primping or a ridiculous amount of money on my face. The idea of going to a beauty salon usually makes me anxious. But once in awhile, I like to splurge and get all dolled up.
After finding, Carissa Tunis, I find myself thinking up "excuses" on why I need a facial or a waxing. And, it doesn't hurt that her prices and specials are great! My first experience was so relaxed and refreshing that I was feeling the post-facial "glow" for days and days afterward. Carissa takes the time to get to know your needs: for your skin and your personality. I've recommended this business to friends who've recommended it to their friends. I'm scared to go to a new place with the fear that it won't be so pleasant. Hopefully, I can find a similar experience in the next town that I live in.... Or, I can just keep it grimy until my next visit to Portland! -

I read these seemingly stellar Yelp reviews and decided to go in and try Nova for a bikini wax.
I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment but still had to wait 20 minutes while she finished up with someone else. This is one of my biggest no-no's as in my career, my time is extremely valuable both in the office and outside it. Not scheduling your appointments properly to give each client professional, respectful attention is a poor choice.
I then had to wait in the room again while she cleaned up from the prior person and prepped for me.
The wax was fine, while not perfect, but my biggest complaint was in Nova's overall manner. She wasn't on the friendly side, she wasn't on the politely professional side, she seemed on the "bored" side. Her conversation was forced and you could tell she was vaguely attempting to distract you but seemed bored out of her mind about it. Or maybe she felt inconvenienced that she had to talk at all. I don't know what it was.
So, a very odd experience. I would not go back unless a tsunami wiped out the rest of the waxing establishments available in Portland. -

Nova is great! I see her for my hair removal needs and I couldn't be happier. She made my first "down there" waxing experience much more enjoyable than I anticipated and the results were--and have since always been--spectacular. I cannot even entertain the thought of seeing someone else or going back to shaving regularly even if I were paid handsomely to do so. =)
Her very pretty practice space shares a Pearl District boutique space with a stylish hat shop. All the ladies there are so nice and they look like a set of the most stylish sisters you've ever seen. I always enjoy going to both the hat shop and to see Nova at Bare Estetics.
Next, I need Nova to help me with my skin since she has gorgeous skin and everyone around her seems to as well. I was referred to Nova by--surprise!--very happy clients and I am glad I was. You certainly will be, too. So will your skin and your areas of unwanted hair. -

Nova is the best! So sweet and she does brilliant work. Never any overrated hype like other wax joints in town (Urban Waxx, I'm talking to you!) and reasonable prices. Nova never disappoints and my brows are perfectly cared for. You can't go wrong with the 50% discount on your first service if you mention "Yelp". Thanks, Nova, for making me beautiful!

I've been going to Nova for a few years now, and I love her! Going to get waxed is not always a highlight on the things to do list, but Nova is so fun and professional, its actually a relaxing experience! Her space is really stylish, and in the back of a cute hat store, where I usually end up browsing. She is super accommodating, and has come in early to fit me in. There are also Bare Esthetics punch cards, so you get a freebie every once and awhile. She even provides a shot of some fancy liqueur for those with nerves about getting their bikinis waxed:)

Love Nova. Super professional, yet the most comfortable experience I have had in Portland. Her prices are fair, and she is very talented.

For over two years I had a strange red rash on the side of my nose. I went to dermatologists, doctors, everyone I could think of, and nobody could help me. I was on antibiotics, creams, you name it, someone had put me on it. In June of this year, I discovered Nova. Within a week of my first facial, and through following Nova's care recommendations, the rash was gone (and hasn't come back.) Every problem I've had with my skin, Nova has looked at and spent time thinking about, and worked closely with me to find a solution. It is apparant that Nova takes her work very seriously which is why I now trust her, and only her, with my skin. The changes have been amazing and honestly, I didn't think I could have skin like this. She is my guru and I am so thankful for her!!
Also, it's worth noting, that Nova is an amazing person too. She emanates relaxation and healing, without being stuck up or snobby. Such a bonus that my skin care guru is a cool chick too :) -

I moved from Eugene to Portland a year ago, and was on a perpetual hunt for a new esthetician for what felt like forever -- until I found Nova (owner) at Bare Esthetics. Tucked inside the back of the hat boutique, Bonnet, in the Pearl, the waxing area at Bare Esthetics is teeny but perfect -- pretty, comfortable, and private. I haven't had the cash to get anything fancy done yet, but for a brow wax, the price is super reasonable, and cheaper than other nearby Pearl Salons. Nova books appointments via email and has a handy punch card for returning folks. Love it!

Nova at Bare Esthetics is simply the ONLY person in the world I will let wax my brows. She has an amazing eye for detail and my brows are always perfect when she is done with them. She also does wonderful facials and my skin has never looked better than it does now that I am getting regular facials from her as well as using her recommended products. Not only is she professional, but she is also so much fun I cant wait for my appointments. I have recommend her to my girlfriends and family and they are now also loyal customers of hers. She is the best in town!
