Chocolate mouse tart - you make dreams come true!
Barcibo Enoteca - you are effortlessly perfect for every occasion. Wines, candles, chocolate, charm. WOW! Great date spot and an ideal location for girls night out.
The servers can describe the entire Italian (yes, just Italian wine) wine list (glass and bottle) grape-by-grape: 30% this 10% that.... fantastic, I heart wine statistics. I heart Barcibo Enoteca.
***** 5 MORE STARS *****
A charming, hidden spot on the Upper West Side. I love the vibe here - it's upscale chic without being pretentious. I'd imagine it'd be a nice place to come right after work with a small group of your girlfriends. It's dimly lit with most of the lighting coming from candlelight.
I met up with my NYC friend here around 8pm on a Friday night and we were seated within 10 minutes even though the place was pretty full. The manager was warm and welcoming, ushering us in gently and making light conversation while we waited for a table. We ordered 2 glasses of red wine and a combo platter of meats & cheeses. We asked the waitress what reds she suggested, and she asked us what types of flavors we liked. My friend preferred spicy and dry, I preferred smooth with oak undertones. The glasses that came back to us were PER-FEC-TION.
That's the reason for the 5 stars - never in my life have I encountered such accuracy of flavors from a waitress. She knew exactly which wines we would like based on our brief descriptions and nailed the flavors we sought dead on. The meats and cheeses that accompanied the wine were perfect as well. Mmmm what a wonderful, unexpected experience as neither of us had ever been here before, and it isn't one of those typical "tourist" spots you'd normally go to while in NYC.
When I first walked in, I loved the ambiance - a perfect date night atmosphere. However, our waitress tried to seat us in the table right by the door even though the restaurant wasn't near full. She was clearly upset that we didn't take the seat but then let us sit in the corner, an obvious prime location.
She was not friendly. At all. Very cold. She didn't like that only I was drinking and that we weren't eating much. Later she took away my friend's soup without asking if she was done with it. And she essentially shoved us out with the check.
In other news, the vegetable panini and soup - whatever was the special last Thursday - were very tasty. My pinot grigio by the glass (the cheapest on the menu at $8) were very good.
I wanted to like this wine bar, but our waitress was seriously one of the coldest waitresses I have encountered in New York City.
This is a little treasure in the UWS! I met up with a girlfriend I hadn't seen since the summer so we had some major catching up to do. It was wonderful to sip wine, eat a delicious meal and enjoy wonderful service. I am not too familiar with Italian wines, but our server was able to describe each in full detail and we were pleased with her recommendations. We shared the mushroom risotto and a panini (I don't recall the name but it was the last one on the list) and both were very tasty. We didn't have room for dessert but from reading the other reviews, I will definitely have to go back a try the Chocolate mouse tart.
The service, wine selection and food truly exceeded expectations!
I had a incredibly pleasant experience at Barcibo Enoteca. My friend and I caught a movie at the Lincoln Center Lowes, then grabbed a bite afterward. When we walked in we were greeted by the host/manager. A very pleasant fellow, who showed us to our seats immediately. The first sentence out of my mouth was "This is so darn cute"! Ambiance is key in my opinion, and Barcibo nailed it for sure. It was busy, yet not packed which led to an all over comfortable and fun experience. The waitress was so kind and on top of it...not too pushy yet we got everything in a timely manor. I ordered a yummy glass of pinot nero and the sausage and broccoli rabe dish. delicious! not out of this world delicious, but good enough.
the only reason i did not give this place five stars is that in these economic times i really don't want to spend $12 dollars on a glass of wine and $18 for an entree that is not blow your mind amazing. what can i say...i'm a recessionista. a girls got to save money.
other than that...i had such a wonderful time and i will definitely back!!
What fun place. I arrived at 11pm on a Sunday and I think I was one of the last. I suppose I cannot blame my server for being a little impatient as I took a while to take the menu in. The choices! Wow! I got the eggplant and Pinot Bianco.
The Charm factor is through the roof. Great atmosphere. I sat outside on what was a perfectly cool august night.
This is a great little spot, and very convenient for pre- and post-movie-goers as its located right near the Regal Lincoln Plaza and Lincoln Square Cinema. A cozy spot, but very crowded - however, the host staff was very accommodating since I was waiting at the bar for some friends who were en route, and we were able to secure a table right after they walked in. An impressive wine list and knowledgeable staff, and a variety of options (including a large number of vegetarian-friendly options). Great food, great wine!
One of the better wine bars on the UWS, as you can always get a seat -- even outdoor in the summer. Nice wine list and a relaxed atmosphere (though the TVs do feel a bit out of place). Service is always gracious and the limited menu is quite good -- in particular the mushroom risotto is way better than I would have expected from a wine bar!
Great Spot!!! I need to come here more often! The food is delicious!! Let me say again, the food is DEEEE - LIC - LIOUS. The wine list is impeccable! The manager is great with recommending which wine to choose.
OUTSIDE SEATING AVAILABLE!!!!
My only complaint is that the space is rather small.
Barcibo is a great place for a date if you don't want to put in any effort-- it'll do all the work for you.
It's a great setting with warm lighting and just enough seating to accommodate a fairly large number of patrons without people sitting uncomfortably close to each other. The wine list is huge and they had a lot of tasty food options-- the meatballs are generously sized balls of veal balanced on crunchy slices of bread and the risotto was a deliciously creamy concoction of little buds of flavor. The tiramisu was elegantly presented in a long champagne glass but it made it a little tricky to reach the last bites on the bottom-- I like to get all the last bits of my dessert, dammit!
I came here on a date but would also recommend Barcibo for a girl's night out or a quiet evening with parents or out-of-town guests. It's effortlessly romantic, relaxed, and cozy. An overall great spot.
Nice bar with a trendy, yet relaxed atmosphere. I stumbled in here once on a Sunday afternoon after seeing a movie. I had a few glasses of wine and enjoyed myself. I didn't have anything to eat, but from what I saw the food looked great. I imagine it would be a little more intimate at night.. probably a nice date spot.
On a possitive note, the mushroom and cheese panini i had was great. Of course, it did have truffle oil, so automatic plus. And the bottle of Nebbiolo my friends and I shared was full and flavorful. That's about where the positives end though. Lets continue on the food tip-- at the end of our meal we asked the waitress if 3 people could share the tiramisu and she said yes. The dessert is served in a tall, slim water glass, which is the least share-friendly vessel it could possibly be served in. On to the service-- two out of our party of 3 arrived early and we asked for a table that was open in the corner. The host told us he was saving that table for a larger party and we can order a drink at the bar, which was already very crowded, and would seat us at another table as soon as one opened up. We opted to wait, sans drink. About 10 minutes later we are seated at the worst table in the middle of the floor. So we settle in, our friend shows up and about 5 minutes later we notice there is a party of 3 sitting at the table we originally requested that was meant for a "larger party". Way to make customers feel valued! Asshat. The waitress, besides the dessert misjudgment, was ok. Took quite some time to get the check though.
What a great spot! Perfect for catching up with a friend or even a casual date. Don't read me wrong with the word casual. This is a really cool place to go.
The Italian wine list--even by-the-glass--is impressive. The food is delicious, well prepared and properly priced.
Unfortunately, the place has TV showing sports. This degrades dramatically the refined atmosphere that could have been. Nonetheless, the crowd is nice and not loud and the TV all the way on the back is small enough to avoid distraction.
Must try!
What a great find on the Upper West side. Thanks to the scaffolding, you might just walk right past this little gem, but don't! Turn to face it! Go in!
Great ambiance (feels like wine... complex, warm and comfortable), perfect place for conversation and fine libations. I went here for a first date and it was the perfect spot.
We didn't try any of the food, but the waitress' recommendations, the feeling that you could spend the entire evening in this place and the surprise of finding such a great place in that area definitely make it a 5 star place to frequent.
Nice vibe. Great wine by the glass. Try the Fresh Ricotta with w/Bread, thyme and Olive Oil - simple yes, but delicous.
It's so easy to walk by and not notice. As with most things in life, it's far simpler to continue oblivious and unaware than it is to perceive a more demure splendor. To have passed Barcibo Enoteca without a second thought would have been a shame. The scaffolding obscures the entrance from view and the softly lit intimate interior catches the eye of only one looking specifically for this enoteca.
On first entrance, the motiff appeared as if inspired by a single golden incandescent sparkle. White marbled tables stood on high pillared legs made of a deep dark wood. Golden varnished wood lined the bar on both the recessed level and upper level and the stairway that connected the two.
The wine list was extensive and impressive. A whiff of an aperitif and the sparkle of candlelight dancing amongst the wine glasses. Ah wine is served. My first was a Nebbiolo from d'Alba. An Italian. The d'Alba possessed a dark ruby core that licked the very lips of the wine. Clean and reminiscent of cherries. The second was a forgettable Rose'. I forget the specifics. As accompaniment, a plate of sliced cheeses and cured meats was called to order. I tasted a bit of soft brie, a piece of crunchy bread, and a touch of fig(?) marmalade, to which I found very pleasing.
We went to Barcibo Enoteca as a celebratory cap to Steve M's Mozart's Requiem concert at Jazz at the Lincoln Center (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). A wonderful end to a sonorous melodious night.

I.M.Y.
It's so easy to miss this place as you're walking down the street. It's frontage is small; the place is sandwiched between a shoe store and another restaurant. Casual passersby might think that Barcibo is part of the other restaurant, but it's not.
I had been here once before under trying circumstances. Suffice to say, the first time I had been here, the company that I was with, were to be blunt, immature and nasty. I ended up walking out and wasn't able to enjoy myself, the decor, the food, in short, anything about the place.
Over this past weekend, while wandering around the UWS with a friend, whiling away time before we had to go to a party, we went to Barcibo for a glass of wine.
It's always a good idea to exorcise ghosts with much better company.
The first floor is tiny; there's a small rectangular bar, a few window seats and scattered tables. On the second floor is another bar where you can sit perched on a stool and watch the chefs at work. Be warned, they keep an open jar of Nutella on their back counter...it's tempting to reach over and snag it.
There are a few tables on the second floor; since there isn't a lot of room up here, you end up sitting cheek by jowl. If you can handle the proximity of other people and their conversations, then you should be fine.
S. ordered a glass of Lambrusco, I had a glass of Pinot Grigio; respectively $12 and $9 per glass, pretty reasonable prices for a large glass of wine.
For dinner, S. ordered the vegetable risottos, one bite and she exclaimed, "heaven on a plate." I had the chicken panini, melted fontina cheese, prosciutto and tasty bread. A bit greasy, but incredibly flavorful.
It's a petite, in every sense of the word, place whose menu has delightful dishes that they will customize to any dietary restrictions. The wine list is good, and if you're a fan of Italian wines, like I am, you'll have a fine time.
It's true what they say about companions; they can enhance or destroy an experience. I am so glad that I went back to Barcibo with a delightful friend, the laughter drowned out the previous experience and I won't have any hesitation about going back there again.
There aren't too many dinner options within the immediate vicinity of the Lincoln Square movie theaters on 68th & Broadway. Usually, one has to walk over to Columbus or Amsterdam....
This is my new favorite spot to grab a nice glass of wine and quick bite before catching a flick (hat tip to Vera for introducing me to a joint that I must've walked by hundreds of times -- tiny, tucked beside the West Side Restaurant/Diner).
During my last visit, my friend and I split a scallops dish (who knew that scallops could be so huge) and a yummy arugula - asparagus -carrot dish (I can't remember the name of it, but dang was it good!).
Service is friendly and fast. Menu is on the healthy and light side --- the portions are big enough to share (most of the items are meant to be shared), and the wine selection is solid.
Based on the last few visits, I'd say that it typically runs about $30 per person (including wine).
This was a nice surprise on the Upper West Side.
We stopped in on the fly while looking for a quick bite and left very happy.
There was good wine selection and the menu is a little more extensive than I recall most wine bars are. We had the caprese variation (fennel over tomatoes and mozzarella) salad with endives for a start. Entrees were the sausage with gigante beans and broccoli rabe and a whole calamari special dish. The food was well prepared, quite flavorful and nicely balanced. We left feeling satisfied while not stuffed.
Another keeper!
Barcibo Enoteca has a wonderful environment; in the evening it is beautiful and dimly lit; the candle flicker sets the stage for things to come. I was pleasantly greeted on the way in and out. The service was very warm and attentive--I have been to many restaurants and bars where it was hard to get an additional glass of wine. You will not only get service for wine but also your water glass will be filled constantly. I loved the large offering of wines by the glass; this shows how they love their craft. It is easier to have a large collection of wine by the bottle and another to show a wide offering by the glass. I thought the wines were well and thoughtfully selected. I will be back here on my next visit to New York.
I read over some of the other Barcibo reviews and can only wonder - why four stars?
Too crowded? Please refer to my Fairway review for my opinion on being angry for something someone can't help.
Only Italian wines? Well, that's sort of the theme. You don't go to the Shake Shake for coq au vin.
I really can't think of anything else. For a wine bar, the food selection is quite extensive, creative and thoughtful. For example, having ordered some type of cheese (I now forget - blame the wine), I initially thought it was a bit . . . bitter? I'm not sure if that's the right word, but it'll suffice to say that I wasn't mousing up this cheese.
Yet, a second later, I notice a spoonful of something sweet on the plate too. Now, pair THAT with the cheese and it's an entirely different experience. It was as though the minds at Barbico planned on this...imagine if I went without trying it?
My point:
Barcibo doesn't deserve four stars in my book. It deserves five.
And no, that doesn't mean I'm easy to please.
So while in NYC my buddy Justin R. took me to this place and I absolutely freaking loved it.
No wait at all. Perfect casual atmosphere. This is the kind of place I could just hang out at.
We skipped the appetizer this time around, which honestly, considering the quality of the entree, I regret. At first glance my eye was immediately drawn to the veal meatballs to I went with my gut on this one. The super hot woman at the bar suggested a pinot noir for my meal and frankly it was close to one of the best I have ever had, top 5, no doubt.
Overall, I was VERY excited about this place. I was famished from a long day of class and sightseeing and wasn't in the mood to play around at dinner. Barcibo did not disappoint in the least and I left full, satisfied and relaxed.
Perhaps it was just the night I went here, but 10 minutes of waiting promised by the manager turned into 30 minutes and I really had to hurry it up to get somewhere else...i had the risotto with truffles that was decent but nothing to go back for. the cheese platter was good, but again, nothing to write home about....
this place is good for after a show near lincoln center...
Barcibo Enoteca is a great place to meet up for a 1st date or a cozy get together with an old friend. I chose it randomly by searching Yelp for "wine bar" on the "upper west side". I think it was the 1st result, and so I just took a chance. I trudged there in frigid temperatures through ankle deep puddles - it was well worth it. The place is warm and cozy and the maitre d' guy was super accommodating with finding us comfy seating (bar stool style). The place was packed, but this didn't effect the ambiance. The food (panini and crostinis) was great, and even though we didn't have any wine, it was ... dare i say... intoxicating?
This place is great.
Nice selection of wines, friendly laidback staff, and good food. I didn't even see the menu, and didn't contribute much to what we were having.
Had two or three different crostini's, which were very good: The veal meatball is great, the gorgonzola and honey and meat is also outstanding. A third one with prosciutto and mozzarella fine, but wish we had less crostini. Too much break and cheese.
The mushroom risotto was OK, but oddly bland. The rice just sat there without much to it.
Had a delightful salad of fennel, more mozzarella and beefsteak tomato---very good, but invisible-tasting firm tomato.
Great vibe in the mulit-level rooms. Lots of attractive people.
Look forward to going back.
This was a cute cozy place. We got there just as they were opening yesterday and were quite pleased. The wines listed were different (I thought) than the norm. The list by the glass was decent and the pours were good as well.
The food selection looked (and smelled!) great, but we were only there to taste so I did not partake. We met the owner, who was very nice and attentive - a definite plus. Would like to come back here to sample more of what they have to offer, for sure.
Great wine bar on the UWS. It's small, it's cozy, and even though it can often be crowded, the people are really polite, and no one's about to throw some 'bows to get a spot.
They have bottles starting in the $30 range and go up to, well, I didn't bother looking because once the bottles start costing more than $50, I don't pay attention.
If I had to rank the UWS wine bars that I know of, Barcibo would be either 1, or 2. Actually, let me go ahead and make that list.
1. Barcibo Enoteca (a little fancier)
2. Arte Around the Corner (a little more casual)
3. Wine and Roses (nice, though people will throw 'bows here)
4. Bin 71 (cramped, not cozy)
I chose "La Segreta Bianca" for the name (the secret white). The initial 0.2 seconds that it hits your tongue, you say "I'm having wine!" and then, it becomes water. So sad. The secret: it's actually flavored water.
But, a bad glass of wine is not completely Barcibo's fault so I gave another try...with the Pinot Nero. Our wines were oxidized and were horrendously painful to drink. So, we had them open a different bottle. This time it wasn't poisonous but I still twitched a bit from the acetone hint. It also tasted very young...
Perk? Good cheese and meats (the prune jam goes so well with the bread and salami!). I also eyed and envied many of the dishes that were emerging from the kitchen. I'll go back for the food.
A certain someone took me to this sophisticated little wine bar for my birthday. It's softly lit, and the decor is modern yet appealing, and the menu is well edited.
We ordered meat/cheese selections: parmigiano reggiano, asiago, and hot salami ($15 for a trio, plus $3 extra for reggiano). These were all very good, especially the reggiano. I quite liked the crusty bread that came with it. We also ordered the shrimp crostini, which were piled with artichoke hearts and drizzled with lemon. Unfortunately the artichoke piles made for a messy undertaking. Crostini are meant to be finger food, but this was finger + fork + napkin food, which is a little less than sexy. Fortunately the flickering light (and the wine) helped soften the indignity.
I got pleasantly fuzzy, between the wine, the food, the candlelight and the company. I couldn't have asked for a better evening.
great place to unwind in a laid back, "yeah, Im cool, yet sophisticated, but not in a complete business suit way" atmosphere. Great service, tapas were excellent, and the wine servings hefty (though I wonder after someone posted- do they put water in their wine???? ... hmmmm)
went on a tuesday night. no problem getting seating. The dim "sexxxxxxxxxxxxxy time" lighting was a nice touch.
5 glasses of wine, 3 tapas later, bill was $80, not including tip. not bad for a place with an ambiance I so much enjoyed. Back to that water in wine comment- the person I was with tipped the scales at about 110 pounds and they were definitely tipsy after 3 glasses. perhaps they dont water down the drinks.
A GREAT addition to this area. The wines I've tried (about 6 so far) have been wonderful and excting. All the food I've had - soppressata, salame, and several different kinds of cheeses, including ricotta with olive oil and thyme - has been wonderful. It's not cheap, but the quality is very high. The staff has been very friendly. Two times I got complimentary biscotti (even though I ordered them for $6). It was crazy busy on weekends, I would say weeknights are a perfect time if you want to be able to chat, relax. The only negative, in my opinion, was the stemless wine glasses. I prefer the old-fashioned stemmed kind, myself...
Okay, an update. I've since visited many more times, and the place just gets better and better. The owner (he's Mark too) knows me by name and no matter how busy is always friendly, and interested to know how things are going, stops by to chat, check on our satisfaction. A female bartender was exceedingly friendly during an incredibly busy time, and she made room for us and got us seated. I haven't seen stemless glasses in a while, maybe they've changed, or maybe I've ordered things that they serve in traditional glasses, I don't know. Food continues to delight, wines are fantastic. If I could move in, I would. What a wonderful place.
For a wine bar, I think this place is pretty sweet. it's tucked away and a little hard to find but not too hard as it was pretty crowded when I got there on a Thursday night at 10ish.
I'd take dates here, colleagues, clients, even my parents.
The wine is all italian and the wait staff is friendly if you don't know what to order.
If you're looking for a chill place to have a glass or two, check it out.
My wife and I dropped in her last Saturday before heading to the Beacon Theater. I had read reviews and was looking for something light and tasty before the show.
It being Valentine's Day and 630PM when we showed up it was pretty crowded. The manager (I forget his name but super nice guy) found us a cozy spot for two upstairs looking down on the bar below.
The waitress (she's looks like a younger Dr. Cutty from House) was great - did a couple cheeses, some prosciutto and soprosetta, a shrimp/artichoke crostini and a mushroom risotto and it was perfect.
The crostini was really good - there was a veal meatball crostini that I wanted to try but the wife is anti-veal so we passed...
Four glasses of wine and the above food was around 115.00 which isn't cheap but then again, this is NYC.
Highly recommend for pre-show wine and snacks...
LIke many, I also accidentally stumbled on this place when looking for a cute wine bar to meet a friend for dinner. The owner was pleasant and friendly, which made the 20 minutes wait in the tiny, crowded bar area more than bearable. The waitress was extremely helpful in suggesting new wines to try and the panini I had was delicious.
if it were still cool to give thumbs up, i'd give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up....alas, i wouldn't want to tarnish my yelp-utation with silly antics....
but anyway, barcibo was an overall wonderful experience. service was friendly and knowledgeable esp considering their more exotic/rare wine list. For you red wine-o's out there, I reco the Pinot Nero...goes down smooth, does a body good!
On a cool, rainy night we were seated right away...first at the counter facing the street (and who doesn't love NYC people watching?!?) Later in the evening we asked to be seated at a table since we had a friend join us later and they very promptly directed us to a cozy table towards the back. food was excellent...and great for sharing.....we told our waitress to bring us a few of her favorites...and boy were we pleasantly suprised with the selection of meats, cheeses, risottos and crustinis (their speciality!) that she came out with. plus there was this wonderful aroma of fresh cooked garlic wafting around the place...so not reco'd for any of you vampires out there.. ;-)
great ambiance for catching up with friends or a 2nd or 3rd date (it has a pretty intimate atmosphere...)...so happy i've discovered another neighborhood gem!
I came here last night in hopes of finding a better wine bar than Bin 71 (Barcibo's sister wine bar) and I certainly found it. Gone was the teeny tiny space, the fratty crowd and the so/so small plates. In its place was a beautiful, warm space, a very friendly and attentive bartender and a great all Italian wine list. I sat at the bar and tried a glass of Sicilian red and the fresh ricotta with thyme and olive oil and it was lovely! The touches of Bin 71- like the sports yielding TV- were there but overall Barcibo seems to draw a more mature, relaxed crowd. And it did get crowded...I can see it being a little too crazy for a weekend but it was really nice for a Sunday night and definitely ideal for pre or post Lincoln Center activities. For a first visit, two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
This place is awesome! It's sort of hidden but a great find once you get there. The place is sheek and romantic, small but still carries a sophisticated atmosphere. The waitress was really nice and knew what her wines because her recommendations were good. We got the meat & cheese plate which was delish! We also had the nutella panini sandwich which was tasty (actually anything with nutella is tasty). I researched this place online before visiting to New York, and the reviews were right.
Love.love.love this place! Great atmosphere, good wine, great food...and every time we have gone in we are treated like VIP's it's incredible. The sad thing is we found it too late - just 2 weeks ago and now our 4 months in New York are sadly over and we are back in LA - we will always go back to Barcibo. The worst part is that it was literally across the street from my back door....how did I not find it sooner - ahhhh life's regrets.
I'm giving this a four-star review because it's pretty rare to have a decent place in my neighborhood (UWS). But all-in-all, it was a good experience because we sat down at the bar, made friends with the bartender who had a great attitude. We went on a weekday night so it wasn't very busy...always nice. They had a pretty good wine stock and the plates were pretty yummy. The DIY tiramisu was a little lame. I'd go back soon.
